Grab your Bible, we're headed to the sanctuary. It is gonna be awesome, guarantee you. Did you bring a Bible today? - [Congregation Member} Oh Yeah. - Well I brought one because I'm a Bible man. (congregation members praising) And you are Bible people. So turn to Isaiah, chapter one, amen. The great prophet Isaiah, we'll study a few minutes today, Isaiah, chapter one, praise God for the Bible. I'm so glad we have a Bible. I don't know about all the lunatics telling you not to read it and not to study it and that it's not God's word, but it is God's word, and it is already established and settled in Heaven, let alone the earth, that it is God's Holy word. It's done me good, I'll tell you that. It's done nothing but bless me and guide me and keep me so I'm just gonna keep preaching it and teaching it and living by it myself, amen. We're teaching a series, Seven Golden Keys That Cause A Good Life. Seven Golden Keys That Cause A Good Life. This is number four already. And today I wanna talk to you about obedience to the call of God and obedience to your God. Obedience is an extremely important matter to the heavenly father. Now you and I, we have a handicap in our life. There's a flaw in our life that we must overcome daily, it's called the flesh. There's different ways to say the word the flesh. Maybe we just wanna say our stubbornness, our will for our own lives. Maybe a word could be a little bit of selfishness. That we want what we want. A lot of people, even Christians I think, they plan their whole life and hardly ever present it to God, and sometimes I think some people plan their whole life, get it all planned out, this is what I'm gonna do, this is what I wanna be, and then go take it to God and ask him to bless it, without any input from him whatsoever. This is important because of several factors that I'm gonna read in my verse. One, you got to understand that it's God who requires obedience. Not the church and not the pastor. We only put obedience in front of you because God demands obedience and as a pastor, I'm the mouthpiece of God. I'm the oracle of God. So whatever God says to you, that's what I try to say to you. So we have to be obedience 'cause it's what God demands us to be. We do, two, you don't wanna be the children of disobedience. - [Congregation Members] No. - [Mark] Go read in your Bible what happens to those people. So we don't want that. Three, we wanna be obedient to our life and to our call and to our master, because that's what puts you in the position for blessing. We also want to be obedient because it blocks Satan. When you're obedient you're in the will of God, and when you're not obedient, you're out of the will of God. Being out of the will of God, the Bible's pretty clear on that. That is a bad place to be, amen. And so we understand that that old nature wants to climb up inside and take control. Remember our famous poem around here. There are two natures within my chest. One is cursed. - [Congregation Member} One is blessed. - One is blessed, the one I love, the other I? - [Congregation Member} Hate. - But the one I feed. - Will dominate. - Will dominate, so any time you want to, any time I want to, I can slowly cool off, give up the Bible. Give up the Christian lifestyle, and I can slowly cool off, even live like the world, start skipping prayer, skipping church, skipping Bible reading. Get a little harder to forgive people. You know, using my money for other things. All of the sudden the words in my mouth change. Listen, Mark Barclay, including you. Raise your hand, say me. - [Congregation Member} Me. - [Mark] At any given time, Mark Barclay could make a decision to turn away from the life that God chose for me. Now, many are called, few are chosen. God's calling everyone, and wishes that all men, all humans, would come to repentance, because that way thy can start the process to escape hell. But few are chosen. You were chosen when you said yes. And once you were chosen, God said I got a plan for your life. I got a plan for you'd life. I been, you know, I been pastoring here a long time. I just, I don't say a lot, 'cause I try to be careful not to just pick out one or two people of what they've done and then not everybody else because we're a kind of church men, between our partners at large, the ones that don't attend here regularly, and you are our church family, it takes everybody. Every one of us are special and important. That's why the devil wants you out of here. But I was thinking the other day, I was reading through my magazine, our magazine, for the ministry. And I got praying for Thai Smith, Thai's back here today. I could not tell you, I don't, maybe he could. I could not tell you, Thai's a powerful artist and such and you know, I watched him grow up with my kids, him and Jason, and Gary and Susan's kids, Thai's there son. I couldn't tell you how much money Thai has saved this ministry and I know even when he charges us to do things, 'cause he does a lot of stuff, it isn't what he would charge somebody else, and many times he does stuff, I know he does, he does it for free, he does it after hours, and he's one, I got to thinking about it this morning. He's one of the reasons we all look so good around here. And our mailings look good, and our magazines, and our artwork, and so I don't know, give Thai a good hand clap, will you? Praise God, thank you Thai, I love you, praise God. And give Tracy a good hand clap 'cause she let's him do all that, amen, amen, amen. Grow up in church, find the will of God for your life and be obedient to it, that's what this young man has done. And look how it's blessed the ministry of the prophet of God and blessed our church altogether. Amen, so with all that on your mind, obedience, to obey God, obey God at all costs. Obey God at all costs. Don't listen to that old flesh in there. The old fallen nature of Adam. Listen, you are a partaker of his divine nature, his divine nature. Did you find Isaiah one yet? - [Congregation Member] Oh yeah. - Now don't freak out, that wasn't all introduction. It was all part of what I wanted to say. Isaiah one, we look at verse 19. This is one of my favorite, this is one of Vicki's favorite verses as well. If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. I like that verse man. I got it highlighted in my Bible. If I could put flashing light right there, I'd do it, so whenever, I'd just see it flashing, like read this verse again. If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land, verse 20. But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with a sword for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. Really, wow, well I know this is a prophet of old. You got to understand though, some people think that everything in your Bible from Genesis to the first word in Matthew, you know, all of what we call the Old Testament, a lot of people don't, they call all that the law. That's under the law because the New Testament starts in the Book of Matthew, no, wait a minute, the law is only listed in about a book and a 1/2 of your entire Old Testament collection. For example, the books of wisdom, are not defining the law. They're defining a wisdom of how to walk with God, and wisdom of how to walk with man. So if you read the Book of Proverbs, you'll find wisdom of how to walk with mankind, other people, your soul, this life. If you live in the Book of Psalms, you'll find the wisdom of how to walk with God. Amen, and they're not, that's not part of the law that God gave Moses. Those were written way after Moses was dead and gone and the law was already given, right? Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, but these prophets also. Isaiah didn't live in the time of Moses. He's not prophesying the law, he's defining the heart of God. This is why that Old Testament was preserved fro you and me, so we can know the heart of God. The New Testament defines a lot of church stuff, and church rules, thus the Epistles. How to live in the New Testament, what to do, what not to do, how to run your churches. He even deals with the gifts of the spirit, let, he gives a number. Let this many prophesy, the most three, and let the, you know. So there's all kind of instructions, but it's very hard to find the full heart of God by reading only the New Testament. That's why these were preserved for us. So God said, it's pretty clear, God said, Mark Barclay, if you are willing and obedient, you know to him, and the style of life he has for us, and the call on our life. You're not all called to be a voice to the nations, like I am, but you're called to help me be a voice to the nations, so therefor, in that sense, you're a voice to the nations, we're getting the job done. Listen to me just a minute, I know a lot of people but I'm gonna pick on me for a minute, so make it easier for you to listen. If Mark Barclay said, well I'm willing Lord, I'm willing to do anything you say, go where you tell me to go, do what you tell me to do, say what you want me to say. I'm willing Lord, I'm so willing, praise God. I'm willing, I'm willing, I'm willing. But then the Lord tells me what to do and I don't do it. I wasn't obedient, I didn't obey. I didn't obey. You know, there's this passage of scripture we probably should preach from a little more often. It's in the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible, and it talks about that death was coming throughout the city to kill the first born, and God said, everybody say God. - [Congregation Member} God. - See, God's always looking at for his people. God said take a lamb, unblemished, best one you got. And it's something that God always wants the best, and the first. That's our God. He said take that lamb, and sacrifice it. And take the blood and paint it on the door posts. Just slop blood on the door post, go inside, and eat the whole lamb. Now there's a lot of that lamb that's not so good eating. (congregation praising) Now, I like a good lamb chop once in a while, maybe you don't. You don't seem real excited about it. Americans I think are mostly chicken and beef eaters, but yeah, I hear some amens on that, amen. Eat the whole lamb. Now if you bring that, I'm not trying to stretch anything, if you bring that into that into the New Testament, you see this obedience than. God said if you kill that lamb put the blood, he didn't stop there, put the blood, he didn't stop there. Put the blood in the door post, he didn't stop there. He said there's something you got to do besides the blood. - [Congregation Member} Drink. - Get yourself in that house and you and your family devour that lamb, eat that whole lamb. And the spirit of death will pass you by. I know a lot of Christians, I could, if I wanted to do it I could do it myself. I could start picking and choosing what part of the new Testament, what part of Christianity do I really like? And what part don't I? What part do I really like? If I'm gonna eat the lamb, the whole lamb of Jesus Christ, then I gotta to eat the whole lamb, I got to take on the whole package. I can't just take on the I'm saved and going to heaven, let's go get a beer package. I got to not only claim the blood and let the blood of Jesus be painted on the door of my heart, but I got to eat the whole lamb. Whatever the lamb of God says is required. Not what I say is required. Now what you say is required. Whatever the lamb of God says, this is how you live now that you're blood washed, in order to have death, and decay, and deterioration, and depression, and all these other Ds, you know, taken away from you, eat the whole lamb. Take the whole package of Jesus Christ. Everybody shout I will. - [Congregation Member} I will. - [Mark] Clap once if you receive it from me. I will take the whole lamb, praise God. Now back to willing, I can say I'm willing. I'm willing to do anything you tell me to do. But then I don't do it. There's the other kind of person. They're obedient, but they're not willing. I'm blessed, God, I'm doing it, God told me to do it, and I'm just gonna do it, get out of my way, I'm gonna obey God, I don't wanna obey God, I hate obeying God, I wish God would've never gave me this assignment. I use this verse a lot when I help other preachers. And other pastors who wanna quit. To say, you're gonna disobey God? He assigns you to do this, this, and that, you're just gonna disobey him? Oh no, I'm gonna do it. Well, you're not willing. I don't understand why things aren't better for me. Willing and obedient? You can't just be willing, and then don't obey the scriptures, and then, but a lot of people, they're like, the letter to the law, man. I mean, they're gonna obey, but they're grumbling and fighting and nasty and all of the way through the thing. If you wanna eat, I'm a witness to this, if you wanna eat the best of the lamb, now the best of the lamb to me is healing, better than healing is health and never need healing. If you want a healthy body, you wanna live long, and you wanna live strong, that's the good of the land. You wanna wife, hey, my wife of 47 years, I dated her for five. That's a long time for two people to walk it out. 47 years and she wasn't lying, she was grateful. She stood up before you today, we laugh a lot, if you weren't secure, you can't tease a little bit. If you're marriage is rocky you don't stand up in front of the whole world and tease a little bit, but I don't think Vicki was teasing when she said, I'm grateful that I married you. You listening, one of the best things I think, the good of the land, is to be happily married, to have someone to hold you and talk to you and love you and put up with you, and tolerate you and endure you, and help you walk through the battle, so you don't have to walk though it by yourself. One puts a thousand at flight, but two, 10,000. The Bible says, how can one in the bed be warm? It takes two. And I, you know, on goes the story. And so this is the best of the land. Is to not lose your mind. The best of the land, to eat the best of the land you don't have some, you don't live in ulcers and worry and nervous breakdown. To eat the best of the land your children serve God, and they make your heavenly father happy. To eat the bets of the land you got a couple of bucks in your pocket. You're not so far in debt they're ready to come and arrest you, especially the IRS. I'm talking about living the best of the land. I think about this guy downtown here. They were at a restaurant, a big circle, I guess they're all businessman to some degree, and this guy, I just happened to go in there, they had a guest speaker there. So I went to pick him up, and I heard this guy say my name, and so I stopped a minute, yeah, that Mark Barclay out there, he's on television, flies an airplane, he's just like a cult leader. That don't bother me. Puking people puke, just get out of the way. You can't go up and stop a sour belly, I hope you learned that by now, just get out of the spray zone. So, that part don't bother me. But I thought, well, I just kind of step in to see what he's got to say, and you know, it's just natural for people. I stepped in the circle and they enlarged the main spot for me. I'm now part of the circle. And I'm just kind of looking around a little bit, and this guy's the bad mouth, and this guy says, oh my God, it's Barclay, yeah. I said I heard what you said about me, sir. He goes well, yeah, well, you know, well you know you got to admit you're a little weird. I said I'm not weird, you're weird. - [Congregation Member} Amen. - What do you mean by that? You're weird, you know, weird, you're weird man. You think I'm weird, let's compare notes. I'm healthy, that cough of yours tells me you're dying soon. I'm free, you're smoking. I have no hangovers, I think you do. You don't look so good, you look a little green, you been drinking haven't you? Well, yeah, I'm a drinker. My kids are in church, I noticed last night yours got arrested, or not last night, in the newspaper yours got arrested. And so I live in peace. You seem to live in turmoil. I don't have any odd against anybody. You seem to have odd against me, you're never shaking my hand, never stepped in my church. I'm free from lying, you're a lying fool. Listen to what you just said. - [Congregation Member} Come on. - In front of all your friends. Well you know, they're, that circle's getting bigger, they're spacing out a little bit. I said you're driven by demons, I'm driven by God. I'm going to heaven forever. You're going to hell forever. Let me get this straight. I'm the weird one? I live in joy and peace, I'm happily married, you're on your third wife. I went down the list. I said wait a minute, I'm weird? I'm not weird man, I'm blessed. I'm living good. Things are good for me. You are miserable, hungover, and coughing 1/2 to death, and your family's falling apart, and you think I'm the weird guy? No, I obey God, you're the child of disobedience. I said you know the Bible says children who are disobedience are gonna be damned. Gonna be damned. Yo should go find out what damned means. Oh it was quieter in the circle than it was in here, but y'all kind of quiet. You wanna eat the best of the land, don't fool around with God, you wanna eat the best of the land, just do what the Bible tells you to do. How many times have I told this as we studied together, this is the textbook for living on this planet if you're a human. - That's right. - Amen. - God, the manufacture, the creator, of all humans, left. Wrote this book and left this book for you and me, though it's been attacked and torn apart, and buried times over generations, it's still comes to the surface. It's the most book read, how many times have you come to church and had the book read to you, preached from it, or you read it? This is the most, this book is read more than anything ever written by man. More copies have been sold than any book ever written by man, it's in languages that other books, you can't even get an encyclopedia, 1/2 the time you can't get a dictionary in that language, but you can go to Hoogla Boogla, and they'll be a little Bible there, in Hoogla Boogla language. - Amen. - Amen, right. - [Mark] This is the instruction Book of God saying, I want you blessed. And I want you safe. And I want you to live a good life. Do what I tell you to do, and you will live a good life. Right, so we have to be willing. You got to be willing to live according to the book. Oh listen, I know we have to obey God, if he appears in the night. He sends an angel to talk to you. You have a dream, a revelation, an inspiration, an illumination, a divine visitation. Just make sure it's God. - [Congregation Member} That's right. - But I wouldn't practice hearing from God on supernatural stuff, I would practice hearing and obeying God willingly, by going to what is written. And when you can conquer that book in your everyday life, you're gonna live a great life of obedience. Can I have an amen? - [Congregation Member} Amen, yeah. - Amen, so this is easier lived than what I'm preaching, I know that, to be willing and obedient. To be willing in here and just do it. Let's just take it out of church service for a minute. What about forgiving people? I'll forgive them but I ain't ever forgetting. Oh, well I'm willing to forgive them, I really am. I told God I'm willing to forgive that guy, but only if he comes here and asks for forgiveness first. No, so you're willing but you're not obedient. The other guy forgave. He was obedient but he wasn't willing. Neither one of them are gonna eat the best of the lamb. Somebody's plate's gonna get cheated. And there's not gonna be the full portion of food on your plate, your everyday life. It isn't God's will that you're rich and sick, it isn't God's will that you're healthy and poor. It isn't God's will that you're happy, and lost, it isn't God's will that you're found, saved, and unhappy. You got to understand. When you read this Bible, cover to cover, you and I discover that it's the will of God for you and me to live the life he planned for all of his children. Healthy, peaceful, joyfully, prosperous, spiritual, flowing in the power of God. (upbeat music) Praise God, I'm all fired up about that. It's a powerful message for such a day as this. Thank God for the Bible. Thank God for you. I hope you're serving God, and hope things are going good for you. Listen, if you don't know my Jesus, you need to invite him to come live in you right now. It's the beginning of the greatest thing that'll ever happen in your life. It does change your destiny from hell to heaven. That's a big, big, big miracle, but it also adds a measure of greatness to your life that you'll never achieve without the presence of God in his peace, and his leadership living on the inside. You can call us, write us, email us, anytime you want to. People do from around the world. We'll do everything we can to help you and strengthen you. I'm holding in my hand a powerful series. I just called it Seven Golden Keys That Cause A Good Life. They're from the Bible, and if you can get them, and do them, and get them going in your life, get ready for your life to increase and be upgraded and be even stronger than it's ever been before. I sure appreciate you, letting us come to you like this. We work hard, we pray long. Send us a seed when you can, and put some money into Mark Barclay Ministries, and into this telecast, and we're just gonna spend it right. I promise you that.
