hey guys and welcome back to my channel if you don't know me already my name is christine and in today's video i am going to be talking to you about what it's like living in new jersey but working in new york city and kind of a little bit about my own lifestyle and my own decisions as to why i decided to live and work in a different state so if you guys like this video give this video a big thumbs up subscribe to my channel and follow me on all of my social media and let's get right into the video [Music] so if you guys have been following me or have known me i only recently moved out of my parents house a few months ago so like kind of right when it turned 20 21 so i've only been living on my own for a few months and i decided to move out in jersey city because it just so happened to be the best deal in terms of rent price so the first thing i'm going to talk about is rent i was definitely looking in different parts of new jersey to see like which area had the best rent so i'm from northern new jersey and my parents house was only 30 minutes from new york city so i've always been very close to the city so i knew that i always wanted to be relatively close to new york because ultimately i knew that i was going to end up working in new york possibly for the future but i also just love being close to the city so anyways i chose jersey city because they offered me the best deal rent in new jersey is actually significantly cheaper than new york city i think that a lot of people can agree that manhattan is just ridiculously expensive and overpriced you could probably find like a decently priced apartment on the different boroughs of new york city so like brooklyn maybe queens maybe the bronx but manhattan you're probably going to be spending like four thousand five thousand for like just a one bedroom apartment and it's going to be super small like even like 500 square feet and it's just not something that i wanted to live in but in new jersey you can find apartments that range anywhere from like 1100 to three thousand for a one bedroom depending if you're looking for a luxury apartment i was actually looking for apartments with my sister so i was looking for a two bedroom and that actually made it easier for us so we found a nice apartment kind of like right by the waterfront in the hoboken jersey city area which is like the really nice hip area in new jersey and it's literally like right across from manhattan we do not pay a lot and rent at all so i split it with my sister and she actually pays a little bit more than me because her bedroom is bigger but we got three months free on our lease and our rent is only 21.30 a month so that is really cheap compared to like a lot of other places so i only spend less than a thousand dollars a month on rent and i live in a two bedroom on the waterfront in a really nice area in new jersey that pretty much overlooks manhattan i'm pretty sure you guys know that i always post about like the new york city skyline on my story i just like walking to it every single day and it just kind of like gives me an immediate sense of like calm and peace and serenity and it's just super nice another great benefit of living in new jersey is that there is parking in new jersey parking in new york city is limited but it is there and there are parking garages for car owners but they are usually hundreds of dollars and just way too expensive to fit in my budget actually where i live in the jersey city hoboken area parking is also very limited so i was paying for a parking garage which was like 200 a month but now that i work in new york city i don't really use my car so i just kind of park on the street and i don't pay for parking anymore that is really easy for me to do but also there's just so much more space in new jersey so there's so many more parking lots most of my friends can easily find parking i just happen to live in an area where there's not that much parking but there's still way more parking here than in new york so that is a huge benefit for car owners just like me and yeah that's kind of like another point for new jersey on top of that what i love living so close to new york city is that there's just so many transportation options to get into new york i live right close to the path train and the path train is kind of like this little uh underground like subway train thing that easily goes from hoboken jersey city right into new york so i can get into the city in like literally 10 minutes but to get where i need to go it usually takes me like 45 minutes because i have to transfer to a subway but i live closer to manhattan than most people that live in new york especially if you compare it to people who live in like brooklyn or queens i'm like literally maybe like 20 minutes to get into times square and like the heart of manhattan i could also use like a ferry which just takes you on a little boat right across the water into new york which is super nice and there's also like many buses that are that run around new jersey like all over new jersey and there's also many trains and it's also just a super easy drive to get into manhattan there's so many ways to get into new york it's super easy and it's still pretty affordable one ride from new jersey to new york through the path train or is the same cost as taking a subway which is 275 that's not too bad if you ask me so another huge thing that i love about living in new jersey is that it's just so much more calm and peaceful and like less crazy than manhattan i have hung out a few times in manhattan and i've met a couple of people in new york especially lately um now that i'm working i'm an adult so i'm kind of like living that new york city lifestyle in your 20s kind of thing and it is crazy like people really just rally there they're just so unique so adventurous so spontaneous and it's super fun i just don't think i can keep up with it i don't think i have enough energy i don't like spending a lot of money and i don't like how everything's just super expensive so it'll literally be like midnight and people will just come over and say let's go out and out of nowhere even if you weren't planning on going out and there's just always something happening in new york so it's like a good and bad thing because if you're bored and you want to go out you could always find something to do and i just personally don't think it's a sustainable lifestyle and i just like to be more chill sometimes so i could probably go out like one day out of the weekend but i kind of like to do more chill things that don't cost that much money so i don't mind working in new york and kind of just like living that like rushed fast-paced lifestyle but i just love when i come home from new york to new jersey and i just feel like i can take a deep breath and there's just less people there's some cute dogs in the area just walking it just feels more like home when i come back from new york city i have mentioned this a couple of times but i'm just going to reiterate it because it's just super apparent but things are just way cheaper in new jersey than in new york if you go out in new york city you're going to spend hundreds of dollars probably because of the uber a taxi getting into wherever you're going and like buying food there buying a drink there buying a drink in new york is like 20 and then you have to tip and it's just a lot of money and it just adds up super quick so if you want to go out in new jersey the drinks are probably like 10 to 15 maybe if you go out like at a more expensive place and there are some like expensive things in new jersey like it is still more expensive than a lot of parts of the country but generally is just way cheaper than new york another thing that is worth noting is that i just generally think that the people are a little bit different in new jersey than in new york both new jersey and new york are known for like its diversity people tend to think that people in like new jersey new york are like more rude or people also have this idea that people in new york just tend to be really rude but i just think that generally both in new jersey and in new york we are just naturally very competitive and we are just so busy and like work focused like we are just always trying to do better work get money and kind of like stick to our routine or that's most people in general so it's not like we're trying to be rude but we're just like tired so we can't just like smile at you because we're tired and we're also thinking about what we have to do because our schedules are usually crazy i think it's definitely a little bit more apparent in new york than in new jersey i also think that people in new york are just generally more different because they come from different backgrounds um when i would go to like different parties in new york i would talk to people and a lot of them are not from there you'll go to like new jersey and a lot of people are like born and raised in new jersey they're like this is where i'm from this is where my family is from but when you go to new york it's like no i'm from like michigan but you know i wanted to work in new york city i got a job here it's like oh no i'm from like london and there's just people from all parts of the world it's like this huge melting pot in new york so it's really interesting to meet people what i've noticed is that i think it's just also very hard for people to settle down in new york so dating life is not easy in new york i feel like it's impossible to find someone there to settle down with just because i just feel like they're there for this big opportunity and they're not really there for something permanent they're probably just looking for like the next best thing or they're looking for fun they're looking for adventure and this is just like my own opinion this is just like a very generalized statement so it may not necessarily be true that's just like kind of what i think so i'm almost done here i'm getting down to my last points i do want to say a good point about new york is that i like how i'm able to walk from place to place relatively quickly so if you guys don't know i do house calls in new york city as a physical therapist so i am there i kind of go to my area and then i either like walk a block or two to get from house to house to house and if you were to compare what i do in new york versus new jersey new jersey you would have to like drive from house to house so you would have to think about parking you would have to think about traffic lights and traffic and it would just kind of take longer and also you'd just have to drive and use your car and then pay for gas and then like keep up with the maintenance of your car so it's like a lot of work to do that which is why i did not want to do like house calls or home care in new jersey one i don't like driving that much and i hate driving and people annoy me when they're driving and also my car is like about to die but what i like in new york city is that i can easily just kind of like unwind not think about anything or complete some documentation or some work on the train while i'm on my way or to or from work and i can also just easily get from like my patients house within like four minutes or five minutes just like walking distance i just have to like go down a block or i could get there in 10 minutes by just like taking a a train 10 to 20 blocks down even on an avenue and it's really just super convenient so i can see a lot of patients in a short amount of time in new york city so that's kind of what i really like about doing what i do personally in new york my last two points here is that there are a lot of job options in new york city so there's also a lot of job options in new jersey but i just feel like there's like so many opportunities in new york and generally there's higher pay in new york because that's like where the money's at so if you work in new york but live in new jersey it's kind of nice because you don't spend that much on living expenses and just like life in new jersey but then you make more money when you work in new york so that's like a huge plus and the last thing i'm going to say to wrap up this video is that there are just a lot of things to do in both places so like i said there's you're always going to find something to do in manhattan right like it's a city that never sleeps there's always something to do people are rallying but there's also so many things to do in jersey there's definitely not as much but it's still fun so we're like very close to new york like i said we're like 15 minutes in while we're there in new york we're an hour from the beach and we can go down the shore we're 30 minutes to an hour from many trails and hiking and parks and there's also like a like jersey city in hoboken which is kind of like a mini new york city because there's clubs there there's bars the nightlife is there the young people are there and there's we have like our old mini financial district and exchange place so there's like a lot going on here too i'm not trash talking new york city at all i'm just kind of sharing like why i like living in new jersey but working in new york because i like both places but you know there's pros and cons to both areas as to whether you're living or working in either place so that pretty much wraps up this video i hope you guys found this video helpful yeah i just kind of wanted to share like my thoughts and opinions on this if you guys made it this far thank you and i just want to say thank you for all the support so far it really means a lot to me i will see you guys in the next video bye [Music] you
