[Music] today we're going to be talking all about the new jersey towns that have quick easy and affordable commutes to the city so as you know people are always moving out of the city to get a little bit more space but still be able to get into the city for leisure or for work or whatever it may be so i'm going to take you through a few towns that have really easy commutes i'm going to take you through towns that are more suburb like where you might want to start a family or get a little bit more space or backyard and i'm also going to talk about the train system and the different options for transit that you have so let's get right into it as you might have guessed some people choose to move into new jersey and still commute into new york because we have some great school systems here we have amazing parks and recreational spaces we have museums we have theaters we have so many things actually it's a lot of what new york has to offer in just a little bit more space really okay so if you are living in new jersey trying to get into new york city there are basically three options for you the first is new jersey transit the second is the path and the third is the ferry and if you don't know the ferry and you've never been on the ferry i highly recommend you check it out even just for a fun saturday afternoon the views are always amazing no matter how many times you see them so i definitely recommend that if you're interested in taking the ferry you can get the ferry from a few different locations the first is belford which is down near middletown new jersey and the second is hoboken then we have jersey city weehawken and the highlands so a few areas obviously close to close to the water in order to get on the ferry to go to new york and a few different times the shortest is probably about 20 minutes the longest is probably a little over an hour then we have the path the path uh offers you access to new york city in very short distances so you can take the path from newark jersey city hoboken or harrison and those are going to be less than 20 minute commutes and for many people in those towns you don't even really need a car you could walk or bike or take an uber over to the train station and then take the train from there new jersey transit takes you from all the other towns we're going to be talking about into the city and then those rides will take you somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour and 15 give or take if you're going to be taking the train obviously the distance that you're going kind of determines how much you're gonna pay one way is anywhere from 10 to 20 and the ferry costs you just a little bit more than that in terms of the times you're gonna have the most restrictions on the ferry and both trains run until somewhere between 11 pm and 12 30 a.m depending on which one you're using and so that might be something to look into ahead of time to determine where you might want to live okay so now how does the train system work well you're going to go to either the path website or new jersey transit website you're going to click on the link that says plan your trip and then you're going to type in the station you want to leave from and then of course if you're going into new york penn station then you would put that into the destination and then it would give you an idea of how long it would take and any other details like cost just as a heads up i also wrote a blog on this so if you're someone who likes to read or go back to some of this and you don't want to keep rewinding this video i'm going to link to my blog below in the comments so definitely check that out and while i'm mentioning that also don't forget to subscribe to my channel so that you can get all the access to the videos i release to help you understand the new jersey housing trends and the market what's going on and also videos like this that help you understand more about new jersey in general all right let's get right into the towns with easy commutes so these are for people who maybe are younger or don't have children and they want to enjoy city-like living or being close to the city having short commutes so they can get home and enjoy the rest of their evening those three towns that i focused in on for this video are hoboken weehawken and jersey city you kind of have the feel of living in a little city but not necessarily paying the prices that you would pay to live in new york city now those prices are still kind of steep as we know new jersey is not known for being a cheap place to live however it still will be a little bit cheaper than living in manhattan itself um you'll also find that there are recreational things to do there's beautiful parks and museums and things like that in a lot of these towns as well so you're not going to be missing out on the culture and the experience of enjoying where you live by choosing one of these towns okay so we're going to go into the suburb type towns in new jersey that take maybe a little bit longer to get to the city but are beautiful and have their own merits for why you might want to live there so the first we're going to get into is a middle town middletown is in monmouth county it is my hometown and a favorite of mine from the list of course i'm going to be a little bit biased the town is pretty big so you have a lot of people actually living here that do commute into the city and we have great schools as well as lots of parks and opportunities to enjoy of course our monmouth county beautiful beaches so if you're willing to accept a little bit longer commute about an hour and 10 minutes on the train you will definitely enjoy living here for sure next up is glenn rock it's about a 45 minute commute to the city and this town has been rated amongst some of the best communities to live in in new jersey overall you'll find lots of great things in this town the schools are amazing and there's also a lot of parks and recreation just really well known for being a great community to live next up we have chatham and chatham is also a top rated town for schools in new jersey and you'll find that there are beautiful neighborhoods and you're under an hour to new york city and again just lots of people love living here next up we have summit and guys i'm checking my notes because there are too many towns for me to remember everything so that's why i'm looking down every couple seconds so next we have summit and that's about 40 minutes to new york city there's a beautiful downtown a really friendly vibe and lots of people again just enjoy this type of atmosphere montclair is about 30 minutes trained to the city you might even run into fellow residents stephen colbert make a new friend there again great schools of course new jersey is known for some of the best schools in the state so you can check out another website niche.com i'll leave that in the comments as well it's a great site to look at lots of different things how the schools are faring crime rates and different things like that next up we have cranford that's about 45 minutes to the city and it's also about less than an hour down to the shore if you're interested in maybe being in the middle of both the city and our beautiful shore beaches it's also known for its lovely and amazing restaurants so cranford is another option for you we have two more to go next up is madison new jersey and we have fairly dickinson university in this town so you get a little bit of a younger vibe and there's good schools and also under an hour to new york long branch is our last and final town but definitely not least if you want to live at the beach and have just over an hour or so commute to new york you are going to love long branch you even get a vibe of kind of being in miami because there's lots of high-rises going in and beautiful renovations so you'll find lots of things to do here and also not too bad of a commute to new york how are you going to decide what town is right for you think about the lifestyle think about your family situation think about where you see yourself in three to five years and try to pick something that fits both your commute and what you want in a lifestyle and of course consult a realtor because we know so much more about the towns than i've let on here and we can help you identify what your important factors are and how to pick the right town for you i hope this video was helpful definitely check out some of my other videos on how to buy a house in new jersey and ask me any questions you want in the comments
