money it may not buy happiness but life sure is difficult without [Music] it I grew up in a Ral town in the Rocky Mountains in a large family we wore secondhand clothes passed down from the older kids and our large garden supplied most of our food my father was an engineer and my mother was a homemaker we were not wealthy but we always had enough I was a teen when my father lost his job my parents tried to keep the financial struggles and concerns secret but it was evident that we were in some pretty Financial Straits there was a heaviness I remember in the air one of concern uncertainty and Desperation the magnitude of this time in my life of financial insecurity left a pretty substantial impression on [Music] me money is power Freedom a cushion the root of all evil and also the sum of [Music] blessings that same heavy ugly feeling of concern un certainty and Desperation as I felt when I was a teen descended on my home as a young mother of three in 2008 the recession hit and like my father my husband lost his job the Dark Cloud of financial scarcity engulfed our home in a blanket of despair [Music] we were living far beyond our means in an expensive Resort town in a home that was far too expensive for us both of our fancy cars were on loans we had a second mortgage on our home and several credit cards that were nearly or maxed out we were completely blindsided and our financial descent was a freef [Music] fall after the ordeal of selling most of our possessions including our cars and our house we had learned a very painful yet very powerful lesson we never wanted to be in debt or without savings ever again and this is what started my minimalist journey I Had A New Perspective on material possessions not everything I wanted is a need and I value money not for the things it can buy but the experiences and security it can give I became Frugal very frugal buying unne necessary stuff was not nearly as important to me as saving money was as for the things we did need if I couldn't buy it in cash I simply didn't buy [Music] it in 2013 we were finally on Solid Ground financially and wanted to buy buy another house however we needed a lot more money so my husband and I decided to sell most of our possessions this time out of choice and not out of desperation we bought an RV and traveled the United States with our youngest daughter in order to save [Music] money we quickly realized how much money we could save by living nomadically not only did we not have the expenses of a stationary house like Power Water internet furnishings and upkeep we could also customize our living expenses staying in a state or national park was cheaper than a fancy RV park on a golf [Music] course for the first time I felt in control of where my money was going and this gave me a sense of security knowing that I could live on very little money if I just ventured away from my traditional views it was my first big lesson of out of the-box [Music] thinking my eyes were opened to the endless possibilities life had to offer instead of scarcity I now saw abundance since the days of living in the RV full-time we did end up buying another house then sold it we traveled with a backpack around Europe with our youngest daughter in tow yet again we even bought some land in the Appalachian Mountains and built a tiny house and lived off gray for a while today at 50 and recent empty nesters my husband and I have embarked on the biggest Journey yet we sold everything we owned with the exception of our suitcases and set off to travel the world living a nomadic life is not easy it takes a lot of planning and tremendous adaptability on our part but the positives far outweigh the negatives we are able to visit our grown children who live in Germany Costa Rica and still one in the US while having adventures and building memories in our next chapter of life together much like living in the RV we are able to save money we can choose cheaper locations and accommodations to live in and all without spending a dime on utilities Furnishings or maintenance of a [Music] home how much longer will we choose to live a nomadic lifestyle I don't know until we decide to do otherwise this too will change like all things in life there is a season but for now we welcome each beautiful day filled with new adventures and look forward to what lies [Music] ahead there is no right or wrong way to live life even being a minimalist or living nomadically comes with both its challenges and its blessings like living in a home finding what works for you is the most important thing thank you so much for all of your support I really do appreciate it please consider subscribing have a beautiful day my friends [Music]
