LIVE: STSA Groundbreaking Ceremony

hello everybody we are live from the land um and we're gonna get started in just a few minutes but in the meantime we wanted to um show you what's going on this is the future home of stsa you can see behind me um we're getting started we're waiting for the bishop to arrive but maybe we can interview a couple people and find out what they're looking forward to um for the new church let's see let's find our first uh are we live we're live steve you want to tell us what you're excited for in the new church maybe related to hope and what we're doing with hope yeah i mean there's a lot of stuff i mean when i think about this i don't think of a church i think of a center right and so there will be the church part and it'll be amazing for the pastoral care for the congregation and little guys like these guys but um what i'm also excited about is the community around us i mean all these people behind us and all this whole community is going to get to know us and get to know what we're all about and what we're all about is serving them so we'll run all of our service uh for them you know we'll feed the homeless out of this we'll have our mentoring programs or you know all the programs for at-risk kids in the neighborhood will be running this so when people look at it they won't only see church they'll see a center for hope and uh for you know love in the community so i think it's gonna be something bigger than the church how uh how far is that elementary school that we've been working with so we've been at an elementary school for about four years now uh doing mentoring and reading for at-risk children and it just so happens that the school is less than half a mile down the street so when we bought this land we looked at the address and they are very very excited about this every time i go meet with them they ask when is this building coming they want to use it for their parent night pto meetings so it'll be a great partnership and it really just totally just happened this way so it's really cool we're excited thank you steve well we wanted to show you a quick video as we're waiting that will kind of give you an overview of what this whole campaign is all about let me get that started for you ten years ago we were called by god to build a church with a specific mission to bring an ancient faith to a modern world we are passionate about being a church where people feel they truly belong regardless of their cultural ethnic or spiritual background by removing cultural barriers and placing a heavy emphasis on evangelism we strive to unveil the beauty depth and richness of our ancient orthodox faith and reveal its relevance to our lives in the modern world over the course of these 10 years we've done our best to faithfully live out this mission but we've been without a physical home all these years although we've been blessed with growth and our ministries are thriving being a portable church has serious limitations we are now ready to take the next step in building a permanent home in arlington virginia that will be a center for continued community impact and transformation in one of the most influential regions in the united states over the last two years we've worked extensively with local architects a top national real estate firm and consulted with non-profit experts to design a detailed comprehensive plan for our future home thanks to the incredible generosity of our members and extended network we've closed the fundraising gap but we still have two million dollars remaining which we need to raise by september 2021 we someone else and see who can be brown sandra can we interview you i'm sure dandruff is um the head of all of our children's ministries uh at stsa so please tell us the children's perspective what are you most excited about with this new building oh wow i'm most excited to get to decorate and for kids to have their own movies it's been 10 years and it's taken a lot of creativity and a lot of juggling around and a lot of manpower [Music] and the bishop is coming so are we supposed to take pictures of our side yeah show them your signs um [Music] wow is [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] is [Music] oh [Music] [Music] this holy church in the name of sin timothy and thank you in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit one god blessed be god the [Music] begotten father begotten son jesus christ our lord amen [Music] be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth that is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us that we use not to temptation but deliver us the evil one in christ jesus our lord provide the kingdom the power and the glory forever amen [Music] thus guarded us accepted us and so the spirit has supported us and has brought us to this end our let us also ask him the lord our god upon the creator to guard us in all peace this holy day and all the days of our [Music] [Applause] [Music] jesus christ we thank you for everything concerning everything and in everything for you have covered us help with us guarded us accepted as yourself spiritual support it doesn't have us to this and [Music] and accept the supplications and prayers offices all that which has been an rbf at all times and to keep the life and standing of our owner's father in just a second and his foreign [Applause] oh [Music] [Music] and all the days of our life and i'll be with your fear all envy all temptation all the working of satan the council of wicked people the rising up of enemies hidden or manifest you have given us the authority to tread on serpents and school things in every power of the enemies is [Music] [Laughter] [Applause] [Laughter] oh [Music] [Applause] hello [Music] [Laughter] [Applause] psalm 50 the form of repentance have mercy upon me o god according to your loving kindness according to the multitude of your tender mercy blot out my transgressions wash away iniquity and cleanse me from my sin for i acknowledge my transgressions and my sins that always before me against you only have i sinned and done evil in your sight that you may be found just when you speak and blameless when you judge behold i was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me behold you desire truth in the inner parts and in the hidden parts you will make me to know wisdom purge me with hysep and i shall be clean wash me and i shall be whiter than snow make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones you have broken may rejoice hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities create me a clean heart o god and renew a split past spirit within me do not cast me away from your presence and do not take your holy spirit from me restore it to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me by your generous spirit and i will teach transgressors your ways and sinners shall be converted to you deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed o god the god of my salvation and my tongue shall sing a lot of your righteousness the lord open my lips and my mouth will show forth your praise sacrifice or else i would give it you do not delight and burn offerings the sacrifice of god or a broken spirit a broken unconfined heart he is oh god you will not despise do god in your good pleasure to die and fill the walls of jerusalem then they shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness with burnt offering and whole burn offering and they shall of course goes on your health okay before we continue now we're going to have us some readings in the book we all know but if you're a kid ask your parents for yourself um what is it that we're doing here what is it that we're praying okay so we just said that we placed this foundation here in the name of saint timothy's in ignatius okay must name the father son of the holy spirit we pray to prayer thanksgiving the prayer of repentance and what we're doing is actually very similar to if you look when like solomon built the temple there was like a dedication and there was a prayer about what this place would be and that's what we're doing so it's great with the pictures and the signs it's fantastic but it is a prayer it is the only chance is the only chance we have to pray this particular prayer right here we're hoping we don't build many of these churches this is kind of like a one-and-done so we're hoping that that we are asking god to bless this place we're asking god his presence to be here and if you we first pray to prayer of repentance why because we want this to be a home of repentance a place that leads the world to our friends we're going to say a litany in a second with the litany of the sick and litany of the sick is something that's very dear to my heart because we always talk about how the church is not a courtroom for sinners it is a it's a hospital so we're going to pray to literally stick that this place would be a place of healing to those homes and the people driving by to the people all around the people who are watching this wherever it may be and then we're going to pray specific prayers about god's blessing god's presence in this place so i know we don't have the screen in the follow along but listen up okay and hopefully we can all join together with one heart and then god will uh truly hear our prayers and answer for a reading them the book of genesis sorry just one second actually if you do have your sdsa app on your phones you can click on the notes section and you can follow along in the prayers as well a reading from the book of genesis may his lessons be with us all one moment now jacob went out from vera and went toward so he came to a certain place and stayed there all night because the sun had set and he took one of the stones of a fat place and put it on his head and he laid down in that place of sleep then he dreamed and behold a ladder was set up on the earth and its top reached here in heaven and there the angels of god were ascending and defending and behold the am the lord god of abraham your father and the god of life the land in which you love i will give to you and your descendants also your descendants shall be as the god of the earth i will bring you back to this land for i will not believe you until i have done what i have spoken to that jacob awoke from his sleep and said surely the lord is in his place and i did not know him and he was afraid and said how awesome is this place this is none other than the house of god and this is the gate of heaven then jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone that he had put at his head set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of that and he called the name of that place bethel but the name of that city had been lost previously then jacob made a vow saying and god will be with me and keep me in this way that i am going and give me a bread to meet including to put on so that i can come back to my father's house in peace and the lord shall be my god and this stone which i have set as a pillar shall be god's house and of all that i you give me i will surely give a test to you glory be to the holy trinity our god reverence the ages of all ages [Music] uh [Music] you peace sickness all disease the spirit of sickness away those but long line in sickness race couldn't comfort those or afflicted unclean spirits that come all three those are imprisoned sir dungeons so those are exotic captivity or those who are held a good or bondage the lord set them all free and have mercy upon them for you are healed this is the mount of close to poland the hope of those who have no hope the help of those who have no how over the comfort of the pain hearted the harbor of those in a storm all souls that are distressed are bound grant to mercy oh lord grant them rest grant them refreshment grant them grace grant them help grant them salvation grant them the forgiveness of their sins and their neck with as forth also lord the mountains of our souls heal and those of our bodies too to cure are you the true position of our souls and bodies the bishop of all crush visit us with your salvation [Music] one mercy [Music] are of the gospel of god which all the golden censor and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides of clothes and which were golden pockets that had the menu aaron's rods that flooded and tablets of the covenant and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat of these things we cannot now speak in detail now when these things had been done prepared the priest always went into the first part of the tabernacle performing the services but into the second part the high priest went alone once a year not without blood which he offered for himself until the people's sins committed an ignorance the holy spirit indicating this that the way into the holiest of all was not made was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was standing it was it was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him to perform the service purpose in regards to the country concerned with the foods and drinks various washings fleshly ordinance and hope until the time of reformation but christ came as high priest for good things to come with the greater and more and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands that is not of this creation the grace of god the father be with you all [Music] oh [Music] [Laughter] is [Music] is [Music] [Laughter] and righteous purposes see the things that you see i'm not seeing them and to hear the things that you heard them bless your eyes for they see your ears for the year may be worthy to hear and collect according to your holy gospel to the prayers of your oh [Music] [Music] until our god order promise to propose them those who are sick heal them for the life of us all salvation of us all hope of assault healing of the soul and resurrection of us [Music] hello [Music] unless the lord guards the city the watchman stays awake in vain i was glad when they said to me let us go into the house of the lord our feet have been standing within your gate so jerusalem hallelujah let them exalt him in the church of his feet and [Music] for he has made the family like a flock of sheep the upright shall see and rejoice the lord is sworn will have no regret you are a priest forever after the order of melchizedek the lord is at your right hand our stately father the patriarch [Music] may the lord keep your life [Music] is [Applause] [Music] stand in the fear of god then let us hear the holy gospel this is he who comes in jesus christ the son of the living god to hold his glory [Music] now we came to pass about eight days after he sings that he took peter and john and james and went up on the mountain to pray as he played the appearance of his face was altered and his world became white and glistening and behold two men talked with him who were moses and elijah who appeared in glory and spoke of his disease which he was about to accomplish a jerusalem but peter and those with him were hit were heavy with glee and when they were fully awake they saw his glory and told men who stood with them then it had happened as they were partying from him that peter said to jesus master it is good for us to be and let us meet three tabernacles one for you and for moses and one for elijah not knowing what he said while he was saying this a cloud came and overshadowed them and they were fearful as they entered the cloud and a voice came out of their country this is my beloved son here [Music] when the boys had seen jesus was found alone but they kept quiet and told no one in those days any of the things they together he gave us the spirit of wisdom to bezalil to prepare the bond for your blessing and holy name and the estrangement of your people in the wilderness we ask you our king and from prophethood to strengthen the house which will be built to worship your holy and blessed name which is glorified in all things purify this house and strengthen this house may it be a solid foundation prepare it to be a pure sanctuary for the priesthood of your holy enlightening hands may they offer honor and heavenly glorification so your people would enjoy the church right the holy solemnity the mystical heavenly home your servants place the foundation on your name depending on your hopes so help them until the end for this we ask and to treat your goodness or lover of mankind graciously share the work with them all envy all temptation all the work of satan the rising up of enemies hidden and manifest take it away from them will god grant them what is good and beneficent accept their determination in honoring your holy name which is exalted above all honors and bless them with heavenly blessings make us worthy to lift up lift in it our hands unto you and glorify your holy name abundantly through praises spiritual services and sweet savor unto your divinity unto you we offer the glory the honor and the worship with your good father in the holy spirit now whose is christ jesus um [Music] david may the lord preserve the light and rising armor on its father the high peace may the god of heaven come from them on their thrones for many years and peaceful enemies times more than a building but it is still a building so there wouldn't be any building prayer complete not some shovels and hard hats so what we're going to do is we're going gonna all together and we're and when we finally have our traditional live for 10 years i am so excited to have our space finally and not have to set up and tear down and just have that that feel of of a church it's not just a father abraham hi everyone i'm one of our priests at fpsa and father what are you most excited for when it comes to this building i mean i just can't imagine how many people are going to be presenting taking communion we have icons up we're going to have a great time sunday school classrooms and you know we get to serve the people in the community around here so we're so excited we're not going to just be on sunday only we have to put stuff up and take it back down but imagine all the people here in the area can actually come to our trip we have a place for people to come we're so excited for that ancient faith and modern world so we're excited that we're somewhere we're on the map now so we're so excited for that thank you for everyone who is out there supporting and praying and
