okay we're live hi everybody hi everybody how are you yeah i'm doing good i'm great i'm fine good good okay hi everyone nice to see you my name is jessica i am uh the social media and community manager with university of the people nice to see you as always um hey everyone thanks for tuning in um if you guys have any questions please feel free to uh leave a comment and we'll try to address differentiate between the two before we get into the live event i'm very very excited to announce that uh university of the people and harvard business school online have officially created a partnership together oh great yeah so we just announced this uh about an hour ago so we're very excited about it um and i see our mutual friend in bajamin and bottom how are you um anyway so we're very excited about this announcement um there's more information about it on all our social media channels so check it out um but this new relationship will offer your people students uh special access to harvard business school online courses so we're very excited about this this partnership um so thank you everyone for listening so without without uh further ado i'd like to um introduce our man of the hour daniel um so danielle hi where do you live tell us a little bit about yourself uh and what you study let's give a little intro hi jessica such a privilege and opportunity to be here today you know i've always looked forward to this particular time now first and foremost my name is daniel and uh actually currently i lived in nigeria to be precise war in nigeria you know the most uh popular black nation on earth you know and i'm starting business administration at university of the people yeah okay amazing and um how did you originally hear about university of the people oh my god that is really a challenge for me you know i i got to know about university of the people online you know because today we live in a global village i just i was just on my computer one day and the alpha just popped up and i said oh my god could this be real i decided to dig deep and dictate and for me i'm kind of person that i don't like starting things until i'm you know 100 sure so i wanted to be sure if your people is legit so i had to do my finding you know how to dig deep and all that then i went to the website and i discovered that the associates are dean for business administration she's a nigerian uh doctor so i said wow that was my my goal for me you know so i actually wanted to meet her and we actually live in nigeria you know it's really that far from where i stay because she based on lagos and she's also the faculty member of the lagos business school lbs so i said okay i don't have a contact how am i going to go about it so i started you know i went to the lbs website i saw a profile i started to email all the uh staff of the school and everything and guess what you know i guess somebody talked to her told her that somebody just sending us email and all that so she actually got back to me and she told me that your people is 100 you know legit so i said wow that was great and that was how i came on board and here i am okay amazing i'm so happy you joined university of people and you studied business administration with us how long have you been studying with us yeah i actually started that was 2018 november so this is my third year at university of the people okay perfect and um maybe you can talk about some of the challenges you've faced in the past with getting a higher education wow life oh i'm going to say this for those first years especially in africa we go through a lot you know we we kind of like being marginalized and i love the eu people should i use the word tagline where education should not be a privilege for few but they're right for all you know so i think like in the past i've always wanted to become an aeronautic engineer or you know a pilot but considering my financial background that was a a whole lot of challenge for me and i was out of education for like nine years after i i did my high school that was 2009 so for those period of time i was you know just sitting all by myself doing all the stuff you know just going about my normal life and uh when you people came knocking on the door i think that was the right time for me and so from 2009 until 2018 you say that was that that was a gap right yeah so those challenges actually went through in the past um yeah a lot of people have challenges that prevent us that prevent them from pursuing higher education so i'm so happy you found university of the people and you were able to start your degree no no jessica i'm going to say this i did not find university of the people universal people found me yeah okay um okay so with that being said maybe you can talk about why you wanted to pursue higher education and what you want to do when you graduate well i think education you know it helps you to stand out in society you know i just want to apart from the fact that i needed to improve myself i feel that now i'm going to say this my dad actually passed on that was 2018 before just in july so i got involved in your people in november and that was my inspiration my motivation and my dad died without having a degree to his name so i told myself that i'm gonna change the narrative and so that has been my number one inspiration for me you know it has inspired me every step of the way so i think when i'm done with your people i actually made a commitment to myself a 10-year plan on strictly on personal development and that journey started in 2017 so i told myself that in the next 10 years not only am i going to get my bachelor's degree i'm also going straight to my master's degree so as soon as i'm done with your people i hope to go for my master's degree but i tend to do that offline yeah okay i love that so that's a really beautiful story that you know your your father is your inspiration i love that so much um and i'm sure he's very proud of you and all that you've accomplished so far yeah so maybe you can talk about your experience studying at university of the people maybe what the courses have been like the instructors um you know uh the people that you've met like what's your your overall experience like for me i'm going to say that it has been very challenging and at the same time inspiring you know your people is a blessing i must say that and uh i think there for the instructors i think they are qualified you know to teach the courses they are teaching and when it comes about their responsiveness they are very responsive you know when you reach out to them they're always willing to help and also this is a collaboration that i form with peers my fellow peers and students from across the world so some of them have not even met them in person you know and we just meet online we talk and we share ideas and it has been very you know wonderful to me so i'm going to say this to whoever is watching from across the world wherever you're watching from you need to understand something that you are not in your people just by yourself you know there are people all around you that you need to reach out to and we need to create this synergy this is a collaboration you know i i tell people that your network is your network for me in your people i'm not just here to just get a degree and go i'm here to create relationship lasting relationship and i try to reach out to as many people that i can reach out to because there's a life after you people yeah and we need to prepare for that so i'm just trying to create as much relationship that i can create for now yeah because i know that tomorrow you know sometimes we don't realize that most of this relationship could be carrying our benefits in one way or the other and that's the truth yeah so that has been my journey so far jessica um amazing so what do you do for work um i know that you teach english maybe you could talk a little bit about that uh great i've been an esl online teacher at least for the last two years and in over i have over eight years of teaching experience you know and you know i'm just doing that especially this period of time where the pandemic and everybody they're just sitting at home you know virtual learning has become the holder of the day you know so that has been my experience but i also have my normal job day-to-day job i walk in the office and i'm a pastor you know i walk into church as well so and recently i just started my e-commerce online business you know selling wristwatches you know you can go check my website okay so if if people want to check out your website um what should they do all right i i think i'm going to sign it right here on the chat box can i do that yeah of course please do um okay so while you do that i'm going to ask another question how do you manage your studies around your lifestyle you are doing a lot for work and you're studying so how do you do it all i i think first and foremost you need to know your priorities you know and you have to balance your life and that has actually worked for me you know sometimes especially when we come on social media there's a lot of distractions on social media that's the truth facebook and all that so sometimes when i come up and please i'm just use the opportunity to apologize to whoever that is send me a message one time on the other and i don't respond because sometimes i'm trying to get a discussion for him assignment done or a written assignment so i think um it's just fun to create a work-life balance you know knowing what matters to me the most so it has actually worked for me for me i i like to study you know in during the night where everyone's quiet and the whole place is so you know it's good for studying that's what i normally do so ant has worked for me okay cool and what are your career aspirations in the business field as you are studying business administration yeah i actually i've talked about that so i think when i'm done with my bachelor's degree in business administration i tend to go for you know to do an hr hrm which is a human resource management yeah then later down the line i'll do my mba which is a masters in business administration so those are my two prospects okay amazing and um what would you say to somebody who wasn't sure if they should study um at university of the people or study online um what what would you say to them now first of all i'm going to say that you know we have this kind of mindsets that studying online is that easy you know when it comes to offline education but i'm telling you no no no it's it is rigorous and for me i think uh the only difference is just just that real time you don't get to see the professors or the students you know an official value but it is the same quality as an offline university so wherever you are wherever you're watching from in case you're having doubts in your heart whether to join the european wagon i'm encouraging you to come on board and you will never regret it yeah okay amazing that's really great advice um well those are all the questions i have any final thoughts that you have daniel yeah i'm going to say this uh that's wherever you are right now you need to understand that what you're looking for is never ahead of you is in you you have to look inward and if you feel that you are right now you are at a crossroad of life and you feel that you can't come out you can pursue your dreams you know become whoever you want to become in the in the future in life i tell you you're right but if you feel and you tell yourself that you are going to make it that you can do it i'm going to say to you that you're right as well because your destiny is never ahead of you is in you because you are your own raw material and whatever that will make you become great in life is in you you just have to reach deep and look inward and bring out that you know that that possibility that is in you so every one of us is a winner that's the truth i don't look down on anybody i don't ridicule anyone because i believe that every one of us we are great in our own way so i'm encouraging you yeah you might as well decided to join your people you might as well decide to move on with your life but whatever you do understand that if you tell yourself that you're going to succeed and you stick to it you have the mindset and the mentality you're going to achieve whatever goal you've set for yourself thank you okay daniel amazing
