hello class I'm mrs. price I'm your instructor for the English Composition 1 course here at University of the people I wanted to create a video so that I can walk you through some of the things that we will be covering in our course and just how to navigate on Moodle so bear with me we'll cover a couple of things follow this video and return to this video if you have questions about any of the course assignments or the way to navigate on the Moodle website so we'll start here I'm on the home page as you can see I'm locked in as a student so I'm seeing exactly what you would be seeing as the student of the class over here you'll see the UO people clock this is the timeframe that you need to be following for all of the assignments remember that our courses run from thursday to wednesday so as soon as Thursday morning hits 12:05 a.m. here on the clock that is when you will start with all of the week or the units assignments or instructions and I'll walk you through that now you'll be able to see the general information so click on the announcements this will give you guys a good introduction to the unit because I will be posting these announcement announcements each unit so be sure to open those and click on the announcement good feel free to respond but the announcement page is not for you to post on if you have questions about the class that you do not want emailed or you think it would benefit the rest of the class to see those questions you may post on the course forum these are where your announcements or your post though so please don't post on the announcement page as that is only for the instructor ok the syllabus gives you great instructions on what you will be accomplishing this term it's nine weeks and as you move toward the final exam and final written assess assignment you will be given good direction here in the course syllabus so make sure that you're going through all of those units and instructions to be able to get a good understanding of what we will accomplish in the next nine weeks right now all that you have available to you is the first unit so let's look through there the unit learning guide is the most important module to open first so we will open that first this gives you great instruction on what to accomplish this week so as you are looking through the overview read all of the assignments learning objectives topics tasks and then move to the introduction as you can see here over on the table of contents that gives you a great idea of how to navigate through each assignment instruction based kind of description of that assignment so we're here in the introduction and you can even move through the table of contents by clicking this arrow here this is your reading assignment tab this will give you links to all of the different reading assignments that you are to complete during that week the discussion assignment is actually just a description of the discussion we'll get to the actual module where you post your discussions but read through the discussion assignments so that you know what you need to accomplish there this is the description of your written assignment again not the module just the description so make sure you read through the written assignment the same goes for the learning journal that you will be submitting for this week now the learning journal is a little bit different it is due on Thursday instead of Wednesday all of your other assignments are due on Wednesday of each week so you have one extensive day to complete your learning journal and I'm here to help if you have questions you'll have a self quiz read that description and then finally you'll have a checklist and this should just give you a reminder of things that you should have that week so go through the checklist especially toward the end of the week and make sure that you have accomplished all of these tasks that's the learning guide and that is the most important thing to open first so we're gonna go back to the course home page and then we're going to move through the modules so this is your discussion forum module you will open up my question the prompt will be the same as the one that you found in the learning guide you will click on reply to mine and that will give you a chance to post here and then be rated by your peers so you want to rate at least three of your other students posts and comment on those posts as well make sure that you're interacting on the discussion forum because we want to consider this it's like our online class discussions surrounding the course content all right let's go back to the course home page so that's where you post your discussion assignment the written assignment is the module that is the third module down this assignment is due on Wednesday and you will find all the instructions for submission right there for you you will then move to the learning journal this is what I grade so make sure that you are following the instructions of the learning journal and then submitting before Thursday 11:55 p.m. so you'll see the due date in the module and then finally as the student you will have the self quiz and some of these quizzes are graded and some of them are not so make sure that you understand as you're approaching each of these quizzes what is expected of you and you can attempt the quiz here so that covers the Moodle navigation and assignments if you guys have questions you can shoot me an email it's Tiffany price at you will people die you and you can also find that on my announcement my welcome announcement in the announcement module a couple of things that I want to reiterate for this class we will be using the APA format in order to quote and cite and reference all of the external sources so here I brought up the Purdue online Writing Lab which is an excellent resource for you all you get excellent in-text citations all of these references and formats used for APA this is your APA guide right here now suggested resources down here you have the APA guide and you want to stick strictly to the APA guide we will not be doing MLA in this class I will post the link to this website in my announcement so if you want to check out this website please do another access that I think you all should know about is paper writer calm I will also post that link so you have the option to grammar check or plagiarism check with this website you can add all of your information to analyze your paper and make sure that you are writing grammatically correct as you continue with this course and the last thing that I want to address that I'm seeing pretty consistently is the word I when you are referring to yourself when you say I am in the English Composition 1 course you are always to capitalize I it's technically a noun that refers to yourself so therefore a proper noun but a proper kind of representation of you so you capitalize it alright now if you have any questions about any of this information you can email me I will be giving all the links in the in the announcement that I post so please look at those links and use this information to help move you forward in this class I hope that you find this video helpful and I wish you the best of luck in this English Composition 1
