Lily Gladstone on Playing Leonardo DiCaprio’s Wife in Killers of the Flower Moon & Oscar Buzz

our next guest is a very talented person who shines brightly alongside a DiCaprio and a dairo in Martin scores he's killers of the flower moon was he murdered don't know he tried to kill himself last year did he know that mhm was he murdered or did he kill himself do you know well I don't know killers of the flower moon is in theaters and on digital platforms now please welcome Lily [Applause] Gladstone welcome Lily it's great to meet you it's great to have you here you too I'm such a fan oh thank you I am too you were just great in the movie I mean just unbelievably great it's uh I can't even imagine what it must be like to suddenly be in the middle of something like this with Marty scorsi and and Leo DiCaprio I mean it's pretty crazy isn't it yeah I'm I'm expecting to wake up any moment yeah I would bet you are and of course you know as you know many people are expecting you to get an Oscar nomination that's another big thing which is um very interesting because when you in high school this is a photograph from your high school yearbook yep and you were voted most likely to win an Oscar there you are Lily GL and Jos rder Josh got to hold it though yep yep of course you did yeah that's nuts huh yeah I mean mths 2004 you guys is this where you got interested in acting is this how you got interested in acting no no that started when I was pretty young I mean my dad's always encouraged it my mom got put in my head pretty early what was the movie that made you think or TV show or whatever that made you think I want to do that it was um Return of the Jedi really um maybe not what you would think though I I you know I was five I as kids do you get upset when you see like your favorite characters get lasered and then you know so your parents are always reminding you it's you know they're actors they're actors so I really really really wanted to be an Ewok really uhhuh and um since I was just told they're actors I'm like okay I know they're not real I know they're not real so if I want to be an Ewok got to be an actor are you still interested in being an Ewok oh of course but I want to I think I just want to live the lifestyle I don't know that I could fit in the I don't know that I could fit in the wardrobe yeah they did seem to have fun the Ewoks until they came and ruined the whole thing for them yeah exactly it's like a big celebration all the time you know H some people will argue with me about this but the Ewoks and their like little early seed you know it's like there's a story of indigenous resistance and they're arguably the ones who bring down the Empire interesting you grew up on a reservation you grew up in Montana correct on a black foot reservation black feet black feet reservation can I tell you something my whole most of my life my parents always said oh we are my dad's side we are part black feet Indian and uh I thought we were and then it turned out we did one of those DNA tests not at all not you're not alone that happens a lot in this country and a lot of times we hear that and we're like oh cool who's your family yeah right it's like uh I don't know the Kimmel yeah and um and what was that experience like growing up is it it just a normal youth young experience or is it it different in a lot of ways you realize later yeah you realize later you don't realize exactly how special it is until you know I when I was in Middle School I moved to Seattle and lived in kind of a suburban area and that was a culture shock um yeah and our reservation happens to be next to glacia National Park so that was a normal backyard to grow up with too that's a pretty sweet backyard to have you know you um so then you find yourself in this movie and uh Leonardo DiCaprio is your love interest in the film and then which you know yeah which would elicit a woo from most people um and then you find out that Leo is going to have in his mouth disgusting teeth the whole time yep does that ruin it in any way I mean you're like oh Leo and they're like oh Leo you know really only ruins the kissing scenes and did he take the would he take the teeth out like at lunch oh yeah there would be like somebody to receive them everybody anticipated the teeth Leo had a tooth holder he did and he also just had a habit of playing with them you know he'd be sitting there just popping up which is something you can't do and also he had like kind of a grimus like a frown on his face his character through the whole movie so broken nose like Leo had the Prosthetics going to really feel like the guy you know popped his ears had the broken nose cuz Ernest burkart had a broken nose all those little details it's crazy and it's one of those things he probably easily could have gotten away without doing that but he did it for yeah I mean it really helps shape the world I remember the first time I saw him my stomach flipped a little bit when he had all of that on because uh you know and i' I've maintained a lot of very close friendships with people from no Sage nation and they say there are times like several of my friends have said this there's times they're watching it where Leo goes away and they only see Burkhart it's like and it's true it's like he really you know he's he uh he's one of the most committed researchers that I've ever met actually like that photo it's funny I i' posted it a while ago several years ago and forgotten about it and I get a text from Leo with that picture and it was like a picture of uh it was a page of my yearbook like somebody had taken it facing down he found it online I guess so but my first thought was like did you call my high school and ask for my old yearbook it's like dude I know you're committed but that's a little bit far there's a difference between being committed and having to be committed and perhaps that would be the step that took you far well congratulations on all of this you got a I know you got a big few months coming up ahead and uh and
