what's going on guys welcome back to everyday struggle with Joe Budden and DJ academics I'm nadeska and it's a big day for us we have our first guest low yachty fresh off the met I'm in this [ __ ] welcome to the show all right so we have a lot of questions about the Met Gala none of us are important enough to get invited what goes on inside we feel like that's an Illuminati type invite phase do you just talk just talk oh yeah they give you really expensive food and then you just go to tables and talk to people everyone's just talking really yeah but everyone is there what did you meet last time everyone it's okay you know let me tell you now before we continue I'm the biggest fan of self-deprecation okay okay now that we got that out of the way art so your album teenage emotions coming out soon and may you drop the album cover so we caught up with you at South by Southwest and you said that you're feeling a little bit of pressure with this album because so many eyes are on you right now how are you feeling now it's done so I'm just ready to put it out you know I'm sitting you got that yg feature yeah okay came through yeah he was he did he sent it that like the next day I told you I would deliver right yeah keep my word oh yeah you made that happen anyway I still I still won't have it had it it wasn't for you why should all the album's oh like it like usually we see now people playing around with like they'll drop albums in the projects and stuff right if everything gonna happen music and you still make money off it right I don't know because I don't know I just treated it differently because I have those first two projects but and which we're still technically like album but I didn't I didn't package it as if I packaged this project they put more pressure you put more pressure rating so this is called did but in a good way it was good pressure to creativity and just like the way I went into it when I did the cover everything I just took it more seriously okay which isn't always a good thing but when you did what cover uncover then not that cover the cover just task of when I came in with that go back go back so you came up with this cover yeah I came out with that cover and nobody from the art department at the label came up with this cover not actually label and said I want to gauge kissing I want the white girl with the funny here heard you went to the label and said you want with it I said him go to the label I call I I didn't call it I didn't ask nothing to do with the label you just we do it and then we give it to it Lenexa questions I'm not done with my question [ __ ] out of here hi so explain it to me because when I see this when I see the cover I'm a bit jaded I know well admittedly I admit it I think that that's normally what I think so give me your creative process by the cover who are you trying to reach as I mean what the message is here the message is just to believe in yourself to love yourself basically it's just showing all signs of life no since she has vertigo she's like a like a emotional girl you know I'm saying yeah obesity and then you have same-sex love I'm saying what about your music speaks to any of them my music is basically to stay positive and just to love yourself and I'm saying on the outcast of the hip-hop gang I'm saying these are all outcasts on this cover and now I'm basically saying is you can be yourself and still be okay with do you feel like an outcast how is he an outcast he's in hip-hop you in seminar caste know so when you say you wait we define outcasts first when I don't I look like someone who just sticks out basically so it doesn't really fit into the pot into the circle that's how you would say that you are an empath compared to I collect I'm an outcast compared to people like you or like you're you're from your generation while I'm in it oh hey you are the same you guys are the same and I like the new generations that I'll cut back like I'm the top outcast let me tell you something right now that's interesting that's [ __ ] but I understand it it's for the moment I like okay take out the most and that's not necessary you like that or do you dislike that me says it's not a like or dislike it's just so you have did it it doesn't matter to me because it's not stopping now if it was slowing down my business and it was stopping money and it was making things hard for me then I would think it lie about the business part yes I care about how yadi feels I'm telling you how I feel you gotta meet every day wait sitting happy I'm happy every day because life is moving in such a positive way I can't get slowed down so maybe he has been meeting a train this is a very media trained answer that I'm getting not immediately response which I am ok let me tell you about how humans are ok I'm going feelings are fickle what that means is they come and they go nobody is one thing forever you cannot tell me you would be the line to tell me that as a young man how do you in this industry in this music industry in the music business you are happy 24/7 that is a lot so that is a that is [ __ ] and I refuse to have somebody tell me [ __ ] when you come from a college dorm room with no money okay you scare me cut your college dance and it's getting no play with no girls you not get it and they have no clothes you have no car and you come to having three four cards you got millions of dollars half a million dollars on your body just to wear and any kind of clothes you want any hose you want how could you be upset because I don't think that's where your values lie that's why then that's why and all of the wrappers and and I don't want this to come off like old [ __ ] man [ __ ] it but it is this ok so let me erase that then my number one objective was speaking to you is to understand right the other day I said some things on this show whenever that was and when I watched it back I thought it was harsh I'll be honest I thought it was harsh number one because of your age I thought it was harsh because I do believe that there's an entire community of hip-hop that y'all are in charge of right so is that sounding old guy man it's still no it sounds like it sounds like you know you [ __ ] up me trying to bring you back you say first okay you said I'm signing capital correct and then you said that you basically you discredited capital in for everything that it has in a pop capital trash now you know me goes to sign a couple notes no bye amigos me I'm Sonic you see it's a joint venture we use them okay when I sit on capital I'm [ __ ] okay but that's cash [ __ ] to do with me you see the same way they did I'm just just cuz I'm not who the street does not mean it I'm man who the street yeah the point I'm making is just because I'm not who the street and I'm Sonic Capital does not mean I didn't come from q-see I still came from Atlanta all right I have my own mindset and how a brand myself and how I make this [ __ ] pop because I just know how to do this [ __ ] I don't have no nice corporate white person in my ear like he always believed oh this [ __ ] compared to where I'll be on I'm not on that type [ __ ] I just know how to make this [ __ ] and it's good I'm happy that I can make you think in your mind that I got somebody behind me let me know I'm doing the right [ __ ] the right way that's the biggest crock of bull [ __ ] ever but that's fine that's okay let's clear up that ego interview right so cuz that the only one there to the person okay the first one is the one and I'll speak for all the old bitter people I think that's the one that got people to view young and the light in the light that they do so when I was [ __ ] on you because I don't take back nothing I said I think that and this is my opinion and I would like to ask you in a minute what you want from hip-hop and what you're willing to exchange for it so that's a later question but Ebro so now I think that that Ebro would rip out that interview was real it was I don't think Ebro had any business asking you those questions your response said to me that maybe you were not media trained are you media trained I'm not it's nothing I'm not immediate chambered I learned via my share I was definitely a mistake how was my first mistake in my second one was that interviewing when I did that said the big thing that I don't regret it but it was definitely fake yeah it was the tail do you feel like that's impacted your career well just the way like you brought me to another level it raised conversation and good in bad ways but all publicity is good Pleasant but I do wish I but I do wish that I didn't say it I that I can say that no let me add to my point because I don't want him more people like him to confuse the old people's perspective when I saw him you know I wasn't very familiar with you I still am not so familiar with you academics and Jessica and the trendy hit people they explained it to me but when I saw it you came off and I think you realized these things already you came off a bit dismissive yeah and people that are passionate about music so when I watch it my opinion comes from well [ __ ] if he feel like that about this culture that saved my life save his life save so many people's lives and he's just like that arrogant about it then [ __ ] this [ __ ] yeah you of course you can understand people feeling like that and unfortunately the negative opinion is the one that gets all the press the comeback when you do the second one we don't care about that I've had to learn that the hard way myself tell me where you judge your peers I mean with emcees there's always you know there's a movie called top 5 there's always a top 5 Dead or Alive with gentlemen like you who are more concerned with fun mm-hmm it seems you guys have alleviated the competition in it is that would have you right and saying that a wrong kinda kinda okay I won't ask if you like that or if you dislike it but where do you so if you had to rank your contemporaries who is the number one person explain it to me like I'm a kindergarten and I don't know because I'm old and bitter who is the number-one person with the funny here with all the jewelry rapping in this style making these songs number one one number one artist that does things that that that creates music in the style that you do I would think that you I think I would think that you Luzi I would think that that's a popular conversation for you me go so I would think that's a popular topic of conversation for you know well you know yeah but I don't rate these people so we compare rappers like who came up together the Kendricks the Jackals the wall is just in here yeah in your peer group I guess who do you feel that is maybe your biggest competition just trying to ask you you think you better lose Ebro that's what I think you guys at the top at least for the newer guys we're not weird school Eagles right there's a lot of people who fall in that I want to say your honor even though you kind of did you like the momma rap label but you an uzi at the top right I would imagine and I guess there's to speak the competition you believe you're doing the best music I know I believe no I don't believe I'm doing the best music I believe I'm doing the best business really yeah I believe I believe out when it comes to its overall package and [ __ ] I'm the one who really got this [ __ ] or not so business I'd like to hear more about that I swear I care about it business my brand the money I to make the diss diss this realm is the money that is just bigger than just music there it's more than one is your school what about your business makes you feel that it's better than your concern I take it to the next level I was smart enough now and it's not and don't get me wrong I'm not discrediting anyone's business why are y'all doing this or discredit one of for example you linked up with it with the sprite commercial you seem like out of all your contemporaries you reach beyond music and I'm not sure and that's if you're just chosen or your business behind-the-scenes commercial business right dealing business is better than targeting no it's price not a commode these folks don't even let people like nineteen we're a hair and diamond T bro they don't even let [ __ ] with this color in bro come on okay oh yeah yeah he's right that's how I look at joy right the same I told you this 50 miss we came in so how do that deal with tribute to coast get 20% know what I mean like these opportunities though each other like as in like how does mind that's driving it or are you also active I'm saying yo let me get these in depends it depends out speaker but he makes it happen they said every time it's 50/50 we gonna have a half oh yeah oh you're gonna 360 you know if you in a 360 bro are they in the car that's right that's right commercial Jack got an amazing deal I have an amazing attorney but y'all know if you know three if you don't know your the 360 or the 360 it's like one of those you know I'm not really I do I mean you a coach you know one coach by had that conversation alright you do know what a 360 do never is know I heard about it I'd like to know your opinion on it audience went swimming when an old [ __ ] like me sees yachty and a sprite commercial and sees yadi and a target commercial I say to myself the label is really doing again the label I don't know if SPC capital whoever is doing an amazing job cashing in on their 360 clearly there's some marketing appeal that this kid has that transcends hip-hop and the label is taking full advantage of it so when you have a star like that it behooves the label if you're in a 360 to do all that they can to get you these other ventures so a 360 basically is if the label has to the label eats off of everything the thinking was holding old up that they sold their game when a 360 deal was introduced was we are the people that are making the act famous we're putting our money up and we're doing everything and then that person just gets to go and do what the [ __ ] they want and we don't eat from anything but album sales as the industry started to decline yes they had to find other ways to eat so when I see what this business is great you're absolutely right but when I see it I say okay that might be a 360 deal and I'd like to know how you feel about 360 deals because if it's true if you and your your team are the people that are coming up with all of the creative [ __ ] behind yachty then what the [ __ ] would I be paying capital anything for that's my questioning you well I've already recoup my due I'm sorry so I know what that means like I've made back all of the money that I was given in mind you might not have been given very much money so that's he still into me I was giving them a lot for me over million okay well you're gonna recoup you got you got you all good records miss you know you should know it's my job to be aware at no point do I want to see again you've got a lot of hostility at no point do I want to discredit you you did disgust me and you discredit my whole label you did [ __ ] Capital I'm not broke I'm under capital but I'm not capital Q son never told I'm never talking about you okay but when I'm talking that's when age your labels my beep will always be how much the Q sees of the world the TVs in the world the shame is of the world the people that bring the talent to the people that don't know have a [ __ ] clue I'm always on that team so no I don't want to install Europe your people I'm in so on capital and I still insult them so capital I'm just telling you see I always to tell me I insulted you co2 that said I'd say you so much I said you'd discredit our label under I am QC I'm capital but I am QC I'm I need my credit to go all my credit is going to my label which is you look so well-spoken is that a problem how come everything I say relax think I'm everything is great thank you I'm not the way I come off here I'm a cool guy I'm just passionate about hip-hop you seem very well-spoken I say that to say somebody who is only listening to your music might not walk away with that ie or to chance people may not know that he is so well-spoken people may not know there's a few people like that do you think that you kind of marketing that aspect would help some even though your business is intact even though you have you know you know you're the cool even though you I see do you feel as though you have some other attributes that help you get a little further because I'm not concerned with where your business is at 19 yachty you're on top of the [ __ ] world you should be at 19th I'm concerned with what yadi does at 25 26 27 28 I don't know I feel like I'm on the right path and as far as like where I need to be I kind of take it step by step I'm I'm putting all my eggs in a that's me I'm saying lining it up so the way I'm saying next year is it's quiet for me hey I'm set you know I'm saying I'm trying to make those moves outside it that's why I'd be trying to be outside of hip-hop all the time I'm saying I love music but I like to do other things I'm just just thought it is good I do have a question because this is from someone who is a fan of I won't say all the music but the majority I would say will you feel all that [ __ ] peekaboo is Carly right you J you're bumping in like 15 min pick up that it's hard okay anyway I keep asking myself why do you respond to the Oh heads and by the way and for you and for a lot of people watching when I believe when we say Oh heads not just in age it's like a mentality submit time is stuck in here yesterday yeah I don't think when you say Oh every time our age okay so I wonder why he responds to criticism from y'all when his music is not intended for you and also it seems like there's an agenda to just always take them out of context also and it's a two-part question I like it when when you sing and harmonize more like you did on broccolis if you did on one night when I see you start recording free sides because some ojeda [ __ ] tell you you can't rap or you're not hip-hop I'm like they're getting you off your track your Korean multi-platinum hit generate tons of money for you your family your label why you can about what these [ __ ] is saying and I yeah it took me a minute to honestly learn it you know I'm saying it was me basically what it is it's just like this part of our brain is just once you know when you just I don't know if you know but sometimes it's a part of my brain it just wants to please everyone and you can't you know say it but I had to go I'm gonna type to God like I hope you're not always happy it's not about now so you are not always happy well is that what's called tears emotions about emotion that's my point when I said that earlier you told me I was a liar but I am a hundred percent I am saying was positive still good I'm not sad I'm saying I'm not it's just me one in two cuz I can't lie I'm not I can I can you know I'm saying I liked it sometimes Charo you know I'm not trying to be a lyricist though you know I'm saying but that's what they're they're trying to judge you in so that's not true that's not true new record for hot 97 and I like that song right I play that song for these overhead [ __ ] like Joe and he's looking at it and he's analyzing it from a perspective that will not appreciate the talent but that's it did you sat down and told a bold-faced [ __ ] lie what was the life was a lot I listened to that record and and don't appreciate a [ __ ] like his talent or do I judge [ __ ] like him to have the same [ __ ] bar as a me or [ __ ] him and somehow do that that became old people with my first time you know what I'm not peekaboo and as soon as I what I say don't lie there no not peekaboo he has other records where he's rapping just straight right just you know have the old [ __ ] [ __ ] up we like all this fun [ __ ] I don't want to hear me in the [ __ ] Club I think it's being followed [ __ ] say they know like I'm daddy knows we don't like what he represents one of the big things who's I've told him is that he gets the same like negative energy from the O'Hair's as Suzie as other people that kind of do what they do he's the only [ __ ] who responds he'll speak about it good good good because then I disagree he becomes the person that everybody's dissing is anybody that's an Uzi no because he's not respond he's not giving it energy back he's not feeding into it he will actually engage I'm in from a that's why not I'm impressed more about a [ __ ] it doesn't bother me but it does bother you so I just enjoyed your conversations oh then tell me what you want from hip-hop I mean you don't think that's a question you should answer at some point what do I want from you are you leaving all of this to QC to figure out no I mean I'm just making music though I'm just having fun times that my fans love it was just having fun in five what are you gonna have a problem with yeah like you very aware but what's going on and you wanted a hottest [ __ ] on earth what do you want me to say Yuma said I want you to be aware of your business I want you to know whether you in a 360 or not I want you to appreciate the culture to change your life I took you from college dorm room even [ __ ] all of the noodles I want you who's well-spoken it articulates himself well my [ __ ] I wish him a lot this is a lot of the things that I believe people don't get a year ago when he was 18 right and he said certain things that he did if you listen to him a year later you could tell he's given a effort to try to learn yeah he's 19 yeah when you hear he's not gonna be well-versed them like these people died okay after or before you die too Bobby I said not one word about you no no no however however what I'm saying is that if you want him to be this aware of the culture in I don't why do you keep saying what I want him to be I know you just asked him about he needs to know what took him from blah blah blah if you want to know about the history and all of that I'm saying he's 19 I think he's giving a very good effort to try to learn why don't he get credit for that Joe when you were 19 did you have a very strong idea of what you wanted out of rap or now you feel like you didn't know and completely made some wrong turns we're not even talking about different we asking you what the [ __ ] do a different ever have to do with receiving information tell me yadi I'm not only I think it's is that's a easy go but it's different out the way [ __ ] is now it's just not the same bro I know know why it's different because we [ __ ] made it different y'all carry it that's why I have to be invest anybody who's passionate about hip-hop has to be invested in them I was you last decade I was dissing will che go to google me word him no because your music fit with the style of music you're missing what I'm saying the divide that exists between younger ex and older ex last decade that divide existed too are responsible for contributing to it anybody who was around from the 90s I wanted to rap against them and I wanted to clean them up it created in a major operation but there's still a discord yeah it's a misunderstanding yeah one of the reasons I wanted you you what was so you and I could maybe help get to the bottom of this because [ __ ] like me don't really socialize with [ __ ] like you right [ __ ] like you don't really socialize with [ __ ] like me right if we all love hip-hop and everybody's eaten that cannot continue it cannot continue I blamed Ebro for asking him about biggie and father and I never want to ask him about being about why would I be asking them about being pop I would ask you to influences but you told me in that Soulja Bush I was very sad to see your social [ __ ] you don't care but you is very sad so you can ask about how so Soulja Boy's you don't stand about it meets him who influences you like rappers I believe you've said before but who who are your appearances when you came but I like people I like listen to like on a daily like you know like Drake Kanye K Cudi well for your snappy will be okay that's my that was my favorite he's not very rapid alright so you as you continue to grow your brand and do all of these business deals is there a line for you sometimes you have to compromise to make money do things you don't necessarily learn I've never it's never but I've never done something out that was corny or trash or just really uncomfortable do you think you never will even if the check is big enough no no no I'm never gon I turned them all the time I I really don't want because my a mate I care so much about my image man like I can't go out sad like a like Elaine you know I'm saying like I get out look I understand like so like you're like I'm not gonna throw no name on tabled it like some like brand I was like man you got this million but you gotta wear like you [ __ ] beat up at shoes or like oh no not even shoes just I don't know I just I care about mine I can't just out out but you're always happy and he's gonna I'm gonna enjoy what you have to say about our next topic are you ready this is good yeah well yeah do you by the way uh yadi thanks for coming through no prob I really appreciate you I think we would come through to talk to this I made sure I steered I have to why because I have you got that it's my way absolutely Adi hue of the one of the few and only rappers who congratulate me once I got this gig so that's my value it's all about no no no no I I treat that with a lot of like respect Hey
