hey guys thanks for all the positive uh feedback and reviews and stuff on my video from before about the kayak um it's still the lifetime tamarack angler pro uh still that cheap 390 dollar kayak that you can buy at walmart and fred meyer and all that stuff um i still maintain that it's one of the best kayaks you can buy especially for the cost that it is it's an amazing kayak to buy especially if you don't have a whole bunch of money like me so i did a bunch of upgrades over the winter um it's almost fishing season so i just wanted to show a few of the things that i did i'm still working on getting all the pvc tubing and stuff so i can do my outriggers which will make it to where i can stand and fish a little easier as i said before you can stand in these um it's a little bit off balance not the greatest for standing and fishing but it can be done with the outriggers it will be like standing on a 30-foot boat so let's talk about some of the things that i did do the first thing i did really cheap like 10 bucks especially if you're a fly fisherman like me get one of these it's just a little stickable fly holder or lure holder they work really well and if you're like me after a day of fishing on the water you wind up with you know 30 or 40 flies floating all over your boat uh and that's never any good it always makes a mess to clean up so getting one of those things they do help or two or 14 or whatever you do i don't know do you uh i also absolutely fell in love with this little guy that it came with um there's a ton of different brands and stuff all over the internet no you do not need the most expensive version possible it makes no sense to go spend 50 bucks on one of those things for a 400 kayak uh i do think that the lifetime versions of these like these ones here they work great and they're like 20 bucks so i'm gonna go buy a couple more of those actually just to have around because you know i like stuff and i like fishing poles and i carry a couple with me and wherever i go fishing so um i also actually upgraded the stupid wrench that i used for anchor it did work but it just it wasn't the greatest um i actually got an anchor i don't really think that i need a trolley system for it i haven't really needed one yet i'm sure if you're in heavily moving water then a trolley system would be more advantageous for you not really for me especially where i fish slow moving streams and lakes and things like that i don't really need it i just need the anchor itself if you do decide to get a trolley system make sure come on over this side because that's got the paddle if you do decide to do a trolley system make sure that wherever you drill your holes in the side of the kayak to mount the trolley system make sure that you put some kind of a sealant around the holes before you tighten down the bolts um it'll just make sure there's no water getting into your dry storage underneath and i know when you buy these kayaks a good thing to do would be to take out the screws or back them off a little bit like all the screws and just put a little dab of sealant in and then tighten them back up uh it'll make it to where you don't get any water inside your kayak and that's a great thing um [Music] talking about a couple of the other things that i did uh the fish finder um it was really easy and if you have scupper holes like these ones do the lifetime tamarack has the scupper holes in it and it's got these handy ones underneath your butt um these are the only two that ironically that i i always leave without plugs that way if i do ever get water into my kayak the lowest point of the kayak is underneath the seat and that way the water drains out so what i did for the uh the fish finder if you look in here you can see that the the the fish finder is sitting right there and if you look underneath it's actually sitting level with the boat so it doesn't like hang down forever and it doesn't you know get stuck on stuff when you're not using it and once i get out on the water i just unhook this clip here i just unhook this clip and i have one hooked up still and it just lets it down about three and a half feet and it hangs right there under the under the water and it does it works great um i store all my extra wire in here and if i if i'm at a big deep lake or something like that where i need to drop it down another foot or two i can always pull out a little more wire a little more line and let it down farther but like i said for where i fish i don't really need any more than that but so there's no drilling of holes required really to put this in i just bought a cheap fish finder on amazon you uh you could buy a super expensive fish finder but once again for a 400 kayak if you're trying to do a budget style fishing setup you don't really need to spend that much money this one was i think 45 dollars and and i just uh keep it in in my storage bin there and this is all it is and i don't really use it to find fish anyway all i'm looking for is to find depth and where the ridges under the water are this one's actually kind of nice it does tell you you know what kind of vegetation is down there too so you can kind of figure out where the fish are going to be if you know where the water level change or the depth of the of the water changes then you're gonna find fish on ridges that's just the way it works so as long as you find one that does a good job telling you depth that's all you need and when i bought the fish finder it came with this nice little rubber plug and all i did was drill one little tiny uh i think it was like a quarter inch hole and i just glued the plug in there and the wire is in there and it feeds in and out without having any issues so i can pull it out use it and then put it back in there when i'm not and it's out of the way clean and clear and like i said since you're a fly fisherman if you're a fly fisherman like me this area always ends up full of fishing line because you're always when you're presenting your your fly you're always pulling that extra line right here and i just kind of spool it right here and then let it come back out so um i always like to keep this area clear uh the other thing that was a really big deal is the paddle um this is the one that comes with the uh any lifetime uh kayak they all come with these same stupid little paddles and i said they were garbage and i didn't show you guys exactly how much garbage they are obviously something with high flexibility for a paddle is a bad idea look i just shook it you can see it bouncing but i mean if i just push a little bit i'm using one hand and i'm not straining i mean it just it flexes like crazy so it's kind of a weak paddle and i recommended throwing it away and you would be good to throw it away and i'm going to show you side by side the difference i went and spent 70 bucks on these and these are carl oil day trippers and it comes with a big paddle and a little one hand paddle now this one i use to take you know to get myself out to my fishing spots and once i get out to a fishing spot this big these the big paddles they just kind of get in the way especially if you're trying to fish so usually once i get out i put it away on the side of the kayak and then i grab this guy and keep this around just for adjusting myself it's a lot easier to use it stays out of the way easier and you can kind of throw it aside when you when you get a fish and it makes it a lot easier to handle um these kayak paddles aren't even expensive but like i said let's look at the difference this is the uh the lifetime one look at that flex absolute trash this is a 50 kayak paddle not even that expensive but if you can see i'm like i'm trying to make that thing for us and it just doesn't want to and that's a good paddle that's what you want if it doesn't flex it's going to give you a lot more control a lot more stability and a little more power when you're cut when you're paddling so you'll spend less time wearing yourself out trying to get out to your fishing spots and more time fishing and like i said i am gonna do an outrigger system for it and they'll come up off these uh these built-in fishing pole holders i'm not gonna use them for that um so i'm gonna make pvc tubing that goes into these and comes out and over with a crossbar so once i get that built i'll show you guys how i did it and all that and the parts involved that's about it but i did want to show you guys how i ran the fish finder because there's been a few questions about that and the paddles and i'll do a video here soon about how i mount this this kayak into a toyota corolla because it can be done and it can be done safely and i'll show you guys how to do that in the next video thanks for all the feedback and if you like the video give it a like it helps out a lot i'm not monetized or anything like that i just like to know that people like my videos so uh thanks for the time
