hey everyone so Leonardo a just turned one happy birthday Leo here is a cake I spent all day generating for you and as it turns out in celebration there is a present for all free users namely that for a limited time all free users can use alchemy which is Leonardo's Custom Image generation pipeline so I thought it would be a good time to check in with Leonardo after all one of our favorite recurring characters on the channel Daniela van denan dress as a pirate was indeed generated in Leonardo so whether you're new to Leonardo or you just haven't checked in in a while uh I think you're going to find this pretty interesting a lot has changed okay let's dive in so I was really kind of surprised that it's been a year but indeed digging through my own archives um this video which is my first video that I did on Leonardo is 11 months old uh a lot has obviously changed with Leonardo and that guy in the video has no idea how crazy 2023 is going to get in AI over the last year Leonardo has really continued to improve and innovate often being the first to implement uh New Image generation Technologies as they emerge that said a criticism of Leonardo that I have often had is that that comes at the cost of having a fairly overwhelming UI I think that if you're new to the platform you kind of get smacked in the face with the wall of stuff I do think that they have improved a lot on that front um it's still a lot but it kind of makes a little more sense now so let's take a walk through shall we so kicking off with image generation you're greeted with a little screen about Leonardo Alchemy we'll dive into that in just a minute uh Alchemy is completely free until January 28th if you're past that point I mean still keep watching because I'm going to go over non- Alchemy stuff as well so again there is a lot going on here uh the first thing I would recommend if you're on the free plan is to change the number of images from the default 4 down to two just so that you can get a better idea of what you're aiming for as you generate and you're not going to end up spending a bunch of tokens you can choose to have photo re turned on if you're aiming for a photographic look as a note if you turn that on Alchemy will also turn on so I'm just going to leave this off for right now and then I'm going to turn Alchemy off underneath it uh prompt magic which basically ends up helping you out on the back end with prompt adherence uh just an FYI that will cost you a few tokens as well beneath that are your image Dimensions uh and aspect ratio and then your guidance scale in terms of your prompt as well uh once you start kicking it I guess above 10 uh that's when you get the little warning sign that uh the higher guidance scale may cause like deformations and whatnot so we're going to turn that down to uh seven underneath our prompt we have the option to change models I do find that this is something that a lot of people kind of get a little bit overwhelmed with uh because there's a lot of different options here the best way to find out what all of these models do is to kick out to the home screen and then come down to fine-tune models and that'll show you uh you know kind of a layout of what each of these various models does Leonardo Vision XL is kind of I guess the default one it's the one that's picked automatically at least uh and does provide some really nice images uh ranging from photorealistic to Artistic Leonardo diffusion XL is I guess similar to Vision only a little more imaginative if you're on the mid Journey side you can kind of think of it as the difference between style raw and regular there are obviously a number of other different styles here everything from 3D animation to anime pastel dream so you know feel free just to kind of Click around and see what each one of these does for the most part I do tend to stick to Leonardo diffusion or Leonardo Vision uh from here you do have the ability to add elements in as well uh these are luras or kind of stylizes that will sit above your generated image uh we'll Circle back to this in just a minute so after two rerolls I do end up with something that I like namely this image which has the appropriate Vibe of hero walking and someone's day is about to get ruined so now we'll leave pretty much everything exactly the same uh except I will now turn Alchemy on and see how that looks so once again after a couple of rerolls and with Alchemy turned on we end up here which um you know looks good you might be thinking well that doesn't look too different from what we saw earlier and you're right about that but Alchemy does have a couple of other superpowers we'll take a look at those in 1 second and in case you were wondering if you turn the photo real mode on this is the image up that you get which does look dramatically different than the other ones I actually kind of prefer these uh looks really good uh I it is sort of funny with the uh snow accumulating on her hair though at least I hope that's snow otherwise we've got a major dandruff problem going on you can always take your old images and uh and then just upscale them in the Alchemy upscaler as well sliding over to elements will swap out our model from uh regular diffusion 2 Vision so cripping a prompt off of the Community Feed which by the way is a great way to learn basically any a generator is just look through the Community Feed and find things that you think look cool uh this was Dragon Year and baby uh obviously I just want to point this out because this is not a good image um so Alchemy is not always a solution to everything you will still end up with like fairly terrible images but after a reroll I did end up with this which I thought looked pretty cool nice depth the field on it good colors Etc so now let's move into some elements so by taking the same prompt and adding in elements uh we can have things ranging from coloring book kids illustration tune in anime uh and then vintage Christmas illustrations a little past that season so uh let's turn on tune and Anime and uh let's do kids illustration you can actually combine them and playing around with the sliders we ended up with looks ranging from this to this with anime and tune kind of cranked up a little bit higher equally cool and then doing a reduction on the elements got us this which yeah I'll admit it looks pretty odd and surreal but I don't know it also looks like an 80s Japanese fantasy movie that I would love to watch finally moving over to image references uh I ended up taking this image that I generated up in mid Journey if you come over to the image guidance tab turn that on you can upload it here you have a number of different options that you can choose from uh if you're on the free Planet I think it's just image to image but it's pretty good um from there you have some strength sliders and uh yeah if we generate it and we end up getting this now granted there are some ch es obviously our cyberpunk woman is now wearing kind of a cream colored trench coat which we did not ask for and I think her finger one let me see uh one two three four five well five fingers but like an abnormally long thumb that said we do have in and out painting within Leonardo that we can fix a lot of this stuff I'm not going to spend too long here I presume that most of you are familiar with In-N-Out painting you know via at least Photoshop gen Phil uh so that is located under canvas editor here uh you can hit that and we have our various tools including a mask um and our bounding box you know it's pretty standard in an out painting uh you can set a bounding box give it a prompt like uh continue background I mean you don't have to go nuts with it a lot of times and there you go uh nothing to really write home about here the second module is the realtime canvas uh which you may have seen via crea's LCM uh Leonardo's got a pretty interesting take on it though so here we can prompt uh let's just do a uh Samurai but what's really cool is that you can change around the various modes as well so that's uh Dynamic concept art um photography this definitely has more options in terms of stylization than I've seen from any of the other lcms and this aspect of it is actually totally free if you're on the interactive mode so it's not real time interactive is um I mean it's pretty close like so if I draw now it's changed it's still I mean still super fast uh from here here you have a couple of other tools like instantly refining the image uh we'll take a look at that real quick yeah look kind of cool uh and then uh you can also uh upscale it obviously as well and as an FYI unless you're on the paid plan uh that upscale can take a hot minute but if you give it a couple of minutes your realtime rendered upscale will end up looking pretty cool buddy you started off as just a bunch of blobs and the latest edition to Leonardo is of course motion um so let's just grab our Samurai and I'll say there's not a lot in terms of control that you have over your image to motion it's basically just a motion strength slider um and then you hit generate and off it goes and there you go uh maybe not the most compelling of video Generations Leonardo has mentioned that they will be adding in more motion controls as time goes on right now I'd put it at about the pixiverse level which is a free video generator that I looked at last week that video is linked below but I do think you can get some pretty good results out of it depending on what you're aiming for take for example this video from the community feed uh I believe this is the rancid reunion tour or this kind of charming and Melancholy end of theor shot that warms my heart or at least the fires of the city warm my heart and yes while I know that not everyone is sold on AI video yet uh to that all I can say is I don't know wait 6 months so there you go a look at Leonardo I do hope you made it in time to play around with Alchemy if not I will say that Leonardo has always been good about having kind of a low mid tier subscription model with this Apprentice standard at $12 a month the free plan gives you a 150 tokens per day which uh as I said earlier if you're not careful you can burn through those very quickly uh but the real-time generator I think is just always free so you know if you run out of tokens for the day you can just play around with that for a while so once again happy birthday Leonardo I look forward to your terrible twos you're going to be a real pain when you start teething I thank you for watching my name is Tim what
