hey everyone guess what it's time to engage I'm analyzing every emblem ring in Fire Emblem engage I'll go over all the benefits they provide and how they can best be utilized to maximize both your fun and success when going through Fire Emblem engage hopefully this video will be helpful to you regardless of how experienced you are and what difficulty you play on and of course this analysis will be free of spoilers today we feature the emblem of genealogy Leaf not gonna lie I've been looking forward to this one since the beginning not only because Leaf is one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite games but also because Leaf might just be the most complex emblem in engage his kit just doesn't make a whole lot of sense both from a flavor and a gameplay perspective but when used correctly you can activate one of the most broken combinations in the game let's find out how and Dive Right In we'll start with the sync skills these are abilities that your character will always have as long as Leaf is equipped even when they're not engaged the first one is arm Shields which reduces damage dealt to your unit by three if they have upper triangle advantage over the enemy and engage the only other benefit of weapon triangle Advantage is enabling a break on player phase so it's nice that they created a way to leverage weapon trying advantage on enemy phase 3 damage can be a difference between life and death so situationally this can be a nice skill to have arm Shield will also be upgraded with higher Bond levels to reduce damage by 5 or even 7. as we'll see later weapon triangle is quite relevant for leaf but for now let's just say arm Shield provides a nice bulk boost whenever it activates Vantage is a strange skill for the developers to give to leave since he doesn't have it in either of his appearances but I'm not complaining because it's interesting and potent while below 25 Health your unit will attack before the enemy even on enemy phase this is obviously a very risky skill to make use of because if you fail to kill your opponents you'll probably wind up dead but if you can somehow guarantee your enemies demise then you've got an enemy phase sweeper on your hands we'll talk more about how to best do this in the build section for now let's just take note of the fact that there are better versions of Vantage available that activate at 50 and 75 percent so far Leaf seems to have a defensive profile and the stat bonuses do little to change that with an emphasis on HP and defense the bonus to build is a funny reference to how Eunice and tracia can level up their build stat in both thracia and engage build offsets a weapon's weight this bonus can therefore be a good way for units with low bills to get extra Speed without having to use a speed boosting emblem things get real interesting if we engage with Leaf this activates his engage skill adaptable while engaged on enemy phase leave will change the equipped weapon of your unit to try and optimize your performance this is simultaneously the best and worst part of leaf sometimes he'll pick just the right weapon that'll just devastate your opponents but sometimes he'll make you use your light brand and reduce your damage output or Worse he'll switch to his master lands weigh down your unit by a metric ton and get them killed this skill was one of the reasons I wanted to make this series to show you exactly how it works and how you can best exploit it the way Leaf works is he checks all the weapons your unit has including his own engage weapons against this priority list let's go through it so if Leaf only sees one weapon that will count to the enemy he will always pick that one but let's say he finds two then he'll move on to the weapon triangle if both weapons he finds have weapon trial Advantage he'll move on to weapon Effectiveness if both of the weapons are effective against the current opponent then he'll go to the next step adding up each weapon's might hit crit avoid and Dodge and pick whichever weapon has the higher total yeah that's as silly as it sounds and if that somehow still comes to a tie then he breaks that tie with the final step whichever weapon is higher in your unit's inventory now that we know how adaptable works we can get rid of the unpredictability and make sure that we only bring weapons that we want him to equip for us but no matter what we'll always have his engage weapons to take into account so let's go over those first is the killer ax at level one it's almost identical to a regular unforced killer ax when you first get Leaf it's probably too heavy for most of your units with its 12 weights which can be annoying when he picks it for you against enemy Lance users there are situations where it comes in handy but generally you're better off with your own weapons especially when you can forge them next is the dreaded Master Lance obtained at level 10. this is basically a 1-2-range brave Lance allowing you to attack twice when initiating at the cost of well everything else the master Lance's stats are in technical terms really really bad seven might is very weak 55 hit is unreliable and 16 weight is almost certainly going to break the back of almost all of your units it's funny how they copied the fe5 master lens 100 Faithfully but then cut them might in half and removed the brave functionality for enemy phase the phase they clearly wanted to emphasize with Lee I'm not going to say this weapon is never useful but what I am going to say is that leaf having this weapon is more likely to hurt you on enemy phase than to help you on player phase then at level 15 Leaf gets the light brand his personal weapon from Frazier 776 it's a magical sword with an impressive 15 might and only 6 weight both of which are better than for example the 11th sword it also grants plus 10 luck and has an innate 20 crits it's pretty good when you're using leaf on a magical units but if he's on a physical unit keep in mind he will often pick the light brand when attacked at range especially when facing an ax user overall Leafs engage weapons range from interesting to possibly detrimental so what chance does Leaf's engage attack have quadruple hits takes his three engage weapons and combines a hit from each of them with a fourth attack from this super terrible weapon the first time you try this attack it will probably be a bunch of single digit strikes adding up to rather little it does suck at first glance but because it hits four times you can stack damage onto it rather quickly if you inherit momentum or even soar power I know it doesn't make any sense on your relief user each attack will get the damage boost if you apply draconic hex to the enemy every attack will do 4 extra damage if you use the attack next to a leader every attack will do three extra damage thanks to his personal skill with enough damage boosting quadruple hits can be an excellent way to kill bosses in one round of combat especially because it cannot miss Leaf's Divine paralog is an interesting case normally I always recommend playing a Divine paralog because they tend to be easy to finish quickly if you want to and you have to if you want to use an emblem's ability's past bot level 10. however with Leith neither of these apply his paralog is usually long and difficult and you don't necessarily want access to his higher bot levels since masterlands and light brand are potentially detrimental to your build and never playing the paralog is one way to make sure you never get those while I do recommend to cap leaf spot level at 9 the optimal way to do so is to Simply never view his bond conversation and that way you can still play the paralog if you want to which is nice since you can get a silent staff and a speed Wing that way so we're going to kneecap leaves maximum Bond level at 9 but how do we use that to make an actual good Leaf build the best and most simple way is to put him on panette panette is a perfect fit for a vantage sweeping build she has high enough HP to survive an initial round of combat and so much strength that she will One-Shot anything she gets a crit against she also starts only 500 SP from being able to inherit wrath from Ike which grants plus one percent crits for every point of HP she has lost up to a maximum of 30. her personal skill blood Fury provides another plus 10 crit if she's lost any HP at all Leaf himself provides 10 crit to backup units we can add another 35 more crits from using a killer ax and forging it to plus 2 and then if we add the linear engraving that's another 20 crit we've already reached 100 critical and we haven't even factored in the critical dexterity now why would we use leaf on panettes when we can just inherit Vantage instead well for one it frees up a skill slot that we can use for something else but also because it lets us take advantage of leaves adaptable if we reclass planets to Warrior we can give her a bow which leth will make her use whenever she is attacked at range now she can switch between a killer ax and a killer bone enemy phase Leaf will prioritize these two weapons as long as we make sure to give her nothing else and remember Leaf will pick penet's Force killer ax over his own because it's stronger so we don't have to worry about him overriding our preferences here we can even give her a long bow to counter three range enemies if you want to though obviously you will have less with that this is one of the best builds in the game on any difficulty and it can chew through the toughest enemy formations with no sweat you can of course use similar ingredients to use the Vantage wrath combo with other characters or other emblems but remember you'll want to be as close to 100 hidden credits possible or else you're at risk of death with every combat there are some other funny builds you can do with Leaf magic users can try and take advantage of the light brand as well as some of Lee's other properties his bonus to build can help to negate the weight of some of the heavier tomes or even a heavy weapon like the magical hurricane X the hurricane acts is hilarious because Vantage will let you attack first and potentially One-Shot enemy Flyers as long as your ax user has a little bit of magic when it comes to using the light brand Saleen in particular can stack the plus 10 lock bonus with her own Insane luck to max out her accuracy with stabs like silence and a trap now before we get to the final verdict and leaf as an emblem let's talk inheritance for a bit arm Shield I would not say is the best skill to inherit because engage enemy groups are mostly fairly diverse so it's hard to get a lot of manage out of it but one funny trick you can do is inherit arm Shields onto an Arts user to abuse their advantage over magic bows and knives it's not super useful given the lack of two range Arts but it might help keep them safe in a pinch when combined with shielding Arts plus 5 defense if you find yourself regularly exposing sea doll this can be useful Vantage can of course be inherited to other units as well you can put it on your Ike user to get the same Vantage wrath combo with the added benefit that there is much less risk of getting killed since Ike makes your units super bulky you can inherit both fantas and wrath and use another emblem for example Veronica's reprisal synergizes well with these skills because she adds 30 of the HP lost to your attack power Leaf also has build plus and life Precision available extra builds can mean extra speed for units that want to use weapons that weigh them down unfortunately it costs exactly as much SP as just inheriting speed from Lin so very rarely will you want to inherit build from leaf knife Precision is a minor hit and avoid boost when wielding a knife it might have been useful for a Dodge tanking build with the thieves if the bonuses weren't so small compared to how much a speed they cost for example knife Precision 5 costs 2000 SP but only gives plus 15 hits and a void also you can't forget Leaf has an engrave on offer the genealogy engraved gives a weapon plus one might plus 20 hits plus one weight and plus 10 avoid just a solid engrave all around as the extra weight is unlikely to cause any problems make sure to put it on a weapon right when you get Leaf just so you don't forget Leaf is a strange strange emblem with most of the emblems analyzed so far it's pretty obvious what the idea behind the design was you know that if you engage Marth your unit does a ton of extra damage and if you engage sigurd your unit moves a lot further your unit becomes better and that's that but with Leaf you can't just slap him on someone and expect them to be greatly improved in fact if you try that chances are they'll become worse sometimes due to how adaptable sometimes picks the wrong weapon you can tell how adaptable an arm Shield try to take advantage of the weapon triangle but it just doesn't work very well in practice that's kind of the trend with Leaf his individual abilities have use cases but they often require you to jump through a bunch of Hoops to work case in points the broken Vantage wrath builds that actually makes leave good Leaf can turn your unit into a force of complete destruction but it takes a lot of knowledge and preparation to do that intentionally keeping his bot level low is something you never want to do with any other emblem but here it's necessary because otherwise adaptable will get in your way so what are your results with
