in today's video I will teach you how to see Triad shapes on the fretboard and I will give you some creative ways to put them in your playing today [Music] oh [Music] so why should we learn Triads because they can help you connect the chords you're using to the scales you will sound more melodic when you use them in your solos and in a huge way it will help you navigate this fretboard and and actually help you memorize it this will be an eye-opener for a lot of you grab your guitar let's get into it first what is a Triad a Triad is a group of three notes that make up a chord we're going to focus on major Triads in this video today so if we take an a chord the root note is here in the seventh fret of the D string one three five make up an a chord a C sharp E to help you understand that we need to go into a little Theory very quickly and then we'll move on looking at the a major scale the root notice is one so if there's three up from that is the major third one two three C sharp one two three four five is the fifth which is an E note that's where the term one three five comes from So today we're also going to focus on just the D G and B string sets of these Triads and using those three strings foreign so there's an acorn in three different parts of the neck on these three strings and even other places too we're going to focus on these three Triads today and these shapes will go into some other chords really shortly here so this is a typical a that we use all the time [Music] e a Sharp a C sharp E [Music] C sharp E A as you can see these notes are in a different order in these three spots but it doesn't matter it's still an a chord these are called inversions where you change the order of the notes but we don't need to know all that we just need to see these shapes really look down at the fretboard see the shape so if we look at common chords that are in the key of A they would be D and E and we're going to use the same shapes with these other chords as we did with the a chord foreign [Music] so as you can see same shape e d a a e d [Music] a e d back to a so there's really just three shapes here but you can in different parts of the neck it makes a different chord I really encourage you to learn these notes as you learn Triads or anything on the fretboard learn at least the root note and the notes around it because I just know a lot of you struggle with the memorization and the first 12 Frets is so important you will gain so much confidence if you learn this fretboard so a great way to practice this idea and using these shapes is to to play the three chords in in different parts of the neck so if we take the a d e [Music] and then a d e and then a make sure you can slide up to them make sure you finger you know have the notes all clear as you finger them [Music] great way to practice it that sounds great just in itself but if you can get a rhythm down with that [Music] [Applause] fun stuff and I know a lot of you are just kind of stuck on using these full cords [Music] pieces of those chords with these Triads [Music] [Applause] [Music] it just has a totally different sound and you can create melody lines with these notes hey if this lesson is helpful hit that like button I so much appreciate your support so if we add the major pentatonic scale to this what we've just learned here with these Triads the fretboard Comes Alive because you can slide up to some of these notes so if we take the A major pentatonic here [Music] you can easily create melodic sounding lead lines when you combine these two elements together so if you create a Groove with those Triads [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you the Triad is such a powerful tool it can help you improvise kind of have better connection with the scales that you're using and it helps you memorize the fretboard because you're going to know those root notes because you really need the key off of the root note to find these Triads so it doesn't matter if you're watching my lessons or somebody else's as you learn scales and chords know where that root note is memorize these root notes and the notes around it so you can get better at navigating this fretboard because it gives you a huge amount of confidence glad you hung out with me today hopefully we'll see you on the next one
