medical helping him off the field for the vikings defense that looks like that is andre jenkins vikings have reset themselves defensively so after that nifty run by bernie will be first in 10 from the 35-yard line three wide receivers after the motion to his right he wants to look right but it's oh no it's a give up the middle little misdirection there devin gitchaway be first and ten from the 24 yard line riverside finding some some momentum here on offense run to the right like elijah bennett been the primary ball carrier out of the backfield for the tigers little to no gain there no gain bringing up second down and 10. fake give by bernie [Applause] ball down the ground can't tell they just got bernie down on the ground one or the other but that ball never got to the line of scrimmage and a big sack there for xavier kusar that's the kind of effort they're going to need on the defensive side to turn this game around get the momentum back on their side not sure if the tigers are in field goal range here will be third and 14 they're going to look to pick up at least a chunk if not a first down so they can give their kicker a shot [Applause] well we've got a flag down in the backfield i'm guessing that's something on the offensive line vikings were coming hard for them and corey martin coming fast on the outside force number nine on the riverside side to drop into that pocket where the defensive line was there to meet him but we'll see what the flag is yep it'll be holding against the tigers they'll decline the penalty it'll bring up fourth down and 14. we'll see now how confident the tigers are in their place kicker chavez and a great job for that vikings front able to get that sack for a loss there and force the force the penalty there's a big foot over on that riverside with that kicker but we'll see what the option is here that's alan parrish being helped off the field look a little banged up i think chavez is doing the punting duties here pooch pun inside the 10-5 can it they do it they are right there on near the the end zone and looks like the special teams is coming up with a big play here for the tigers there is a flag on the field though a little disarray on the viking side they didn't couldn't quite seem to get the formation we'll go to the refs for the call fourth and eighteen they probably have a little room even if they did commit an infraction let's see looks like offsetting penalties is gonna lead to another chance for chavez to punt a little sigh of relief there for the vikings squad they were setting up for defense they didn't have anybody back to return they're a little more prepared this time this punt not going to be in return dribbles inside the 10. here comes the viking offense and we'll have to see who's coming out as the quarterback this time the vikings looking to get their momentum going on offense haven't been able to find it through the air we're really on the ground save for a few big plays we'll see if sean flynn can get them going here give up the middle west gives it up early strong mate the ball carrier first time we've called his name today no gain will be second and 10. just over 11 minutes to go here in the second quarter first half riverside lead 7-3 west looks to throw gets out of trouble himself near the line of scrimmage he slides maybe a gain of one he had noah purcell there waiting for him wes scrambling around had a bit of room but purcell able to convince him to slide down to the ground for just a minimal game vikings elect to move quickly no huddle here but they'll slow down now throws to his left he's got a guy complete at the 16. out of bounds zach leads on the reception there the tamante people is able to stop for a minimal game it's gonna bring up fourth down that vikings offense still looking still looking for that flow still looking for that identity here under 10 minutes ago here come the vikings to punt jaron lincoln again fair catch called but he's not able to get it ball bounces up high no one's touched it yet there's a flag on the play punt bounced around the 50-yard line and then we'll see what what's going on it looked like the vikings special teams over pursued on that point didn't allow whitener room to come up and receive that ball so this looks like this could be going against lbcc and that's been the story of the first half penalties undoing a lot of the work that the vikings have done on defense for the third time in a row tigers are going to take over an excellent field position i think it's the second time they've started a possession inside the vikings 40 yard line yeah peabody really is going to need some help from that defense here the last time they start in this good field position they were able to put seven up on the board vikings need to stay disciplined here tigers are sticking with bud bernie shotgun formation bernie quick give up the middle second effort big gain on first down i think that was conor's author of their only touchdown gained at least seven yards they're going to give them second and short here well carrick coming to the near sideline no room great pursuit by the vikings kind of just stringing that run along he just couldn't get vertical and that's what we've seen so far here in the first half these vikings have been able to swarm the ball carrier give give us some delay to that offense and allow the rest of the defense to come in and make that tackle first got a flag on the play riverside tried to get away with a 12-man offense caught with their hand in the cookie jar bring up first and 15. two wide receivers to the right the give up the middle connors again looks like they've moved away from bennett bennett's five carries have only ended up in negative yardage conor's after the touchdown the wildcat formation has been getting the bulk of the carries for the tigers bringing up second and ten for the tigers just outside the 20. throw over the middle ball on the field do we have a catch or not ruled down prior to the fumble [Music] and the vikings really chomping at the bit for the turnover there you can tell that they're hungry for that ball third down in short bernie alone in the backfield he's going to take off on the keeper and he's got room to run inside the 10 out of bounds at about the six or seven yard line doing it himself that's hagan foreman forcing bernie out on the sideline protecting that end zone that will bring up a first down for the riverside tigers first and goal from the sixth just over six minutes to go here in the first half empty backfield connors goes in motion to his right bernie flushed out of the pocket he tries to keep it himself here and he might have got to the five yard line and that's xavier kusan on the tackle he stays down on the field for just a moment but he's back up he's all right vikings desperately want to keep this a one score game snap to bernie lofts it up jump ball touchdown riverside [Applause] bernie to marquis ashley a little pitch and catch 13-3 is our score as the relief pitcher that is bud bernie has really been a difference maker here this is going to be a big moment for the vikings the offense coming back on the field after this extra point chavez the kick it's up and it's good two touchdowns later riverside leads 14-3 and as you said johnny the vikings really need to show something here before they go into the locker room at halftime absolutely they get the ball in the second half here we go taking a look at that last play timing pattern you can see ashley jumping out there for the fade route and just able to get the db off balance easy pitching catch there for six can the vikings answer here chavez back to kick for the tigers from the two up ended just past the 20. flag on the field it's been a theme of the night particularly on special teams jonelle ridgeway on the return it's going to go against the vikings so that ball is coming back a bit broken record here in the first half i'm certain that we're gonna hear coach peabody spend some time in the half talking about their discipline they've really shot themselves in the foot so many times after the penalty the vikings will take over at the 10. number 15 a quarterback quarterback now for the vikings in this is the third quarterback we've seen it's kingston holla holla got quite a good amount of playing time in the fourth quarter of the team's 32-0 win last week at la harbor so we're seeing everything in the deck coming out of here for the vikings we've seen two quarterbacks for the tigers this is our fifth quarterback we've seen the game six if you think about the wildcat formation with connors we've seen three guys under center welcome to football in 2021 that's two teams not afraid to make changes to get to get something established here quick give up the middle looks like a read option play there side galloway the ball carrier and talking to this vikings coaching staff they really have confidence in all three quarterbacks and so they feel comfortable throwing all three of them out there they obviously have a game plan but they have a the big word for the offense was versatility and you can see that playing out here early kingston holla did not have any scoring drives in that fourth quarter but again the the score was pretty much 32-nothing before he got in the game so not sure how much of their offense they were really willing to put on tape in that fourth quarter thrown across the body there jeff japanese not able to find anything and again a little bit more of the same story with the fourth and long coming up the vikings gonna be punting three three and out for holla and his his version of the vikings offense and dangerously the vikings are gonna have to give the ball back to bud bernie who's been on fire here in quarter number two lincoln handling the punting duties again this one's a boomer back inside the 40. fair catch made no return and the special teams with vikings comes up big there for the first time really putting the tigers in a more difficult field position now with the lead we'll see if that that riverside strategy going through the air changes any if they try to control the clock at all or if they keep attacking the viking secondary as we know this riverside offensive line has gotten nothing but kind words from both sides they're huge so we'll see if they use them a bit more here so let's see how they approach the last four minutes here up 14-3 quarterbacks under center fake give play action throw down the middle he's got a man open but he's tripped up by himself throw maybe a little too far out ahead of him walter brooks there with some green bernie decides to air it out but neither team able to really connect on the deep ball so far but not for lack of trying answering the question whether they were just gonna sit on their lead no no no no play action pass and they went for it all and he had room he had at least two steps on the vaunted viking secondary he's gonna go shotgun this time bernie's been the catalyst for the offense since he entered the game on the third possession that throw of the middle bobble nearly intercepted that could have been trouble that could have been the spark the vikings needed but they can't come up with it these don't show up in the scorebook but the vikings have had a couple opportunities here they're they're forcing those small errors i expect one of those errors is going to go get their way at some point they just have to keep working and keep going for them four wide receivers set play action again bernie looks for room himself he's behind the line of scrimmage and he's taken down corralled by the vikings line raymond masso almost lost him but bernie could not get out of his grip brings him down for just a small [Music] so the defense comes up big there forcing nunez to punt again oh fortuitous bounce there for the tigers and it looks like the vikings are going to take over at the 12 with just two minutes and 53 seconds to go the football gods telling the vikings offense to earn this putting them back a bit getting a little bit of a riverside roll on that punt but again we'll the vikings will look to use that versatility find a way find a hole in that riverside defense to try and open up some momentum put some points on the board here it's a shell game at quarterback today looks like the starter west has returned three wide receivers to his left the southpaw delivers short catch positive momentum zach leads there on the reception motion to the left to his right nobody open forced to his right west couldn't find anything yeah not much available there still not able to find anything through the air this vikings offense but they continue to attack just three completions so far for the three viking quarterbacks west throws to his left broken up and that ball thrown just behind jalen morgan trying to find that quick slam up the middle but not not able to connect it's gonna bring up another fourth down punters have got plenty of work tonight here comes lincoln again in his role for the vikings not much time wasted there on the clock by the vikings offense they're actually going to give the tigers another shot to score here yeah sort of a bittersweet back and forth there they were able to get the ball back for some time but after three three passes good amount of time left for the tigers some compute confusion on the field the vikings seem to think the ball kicked off the tigers returner but the refs disagree penalty on the play looks like a hold on the return team hold on desi gonzalez on the special teams he's gonna march the tigers back just 206 left to go here in the first half really hot hot hot southern california day has given way to a beautiful evening [Music] bernie is returning as the quarterback that's been a common refrain after he's let him down to two touchdowns bernie on the keeper there again but we're going under two minutes and that looked like a loss on that play alan parish in the middle of that pile with a big tackle there keeping the clock running not allowing any yards losing a couple of facts second down and 13 for the tigers 134 to go motion to the near sideline he wants the throw over the middle bernie taking a big chance there throwing it into traffic both offenses kind of stalling here the end of the first half third and 13 for bernie wants a throw to his left he's got a man complete three would be tacklers for the vikings are unsuccessful in that second effort first down for the tigers with 110 to go juwan tucker on the reception jaden davis on the tackle we got a fallen viking at midfield looks to be jeff chapronier down the trainer's got him up he looks to be able to walk up the field there maybe andre jenkins barton yeah andre jenkins always a good sign when you're able to see a player walk off the field on their own but he'll get checked out nonetheless see how greedy coach craft and his tigers want to be first and 10. in a dangerous situation we've talked about this viking secondary wouldn't be surprised to see one mistake go the other way so the tigers got to be very careful here clock rolls under a minute to go a lot of motion there bernie wants to scramble to his right but he's taken down corey martin with the big sack in the backfield not allow bernie to hurt him with the legs second and thirteen for bernie and the tigers bernie throws to his right misses wide just 20 seconds to go fake give up the middle bernie wants the throw shoestring catcher no catch it looks like they're going to say that hit the ground ruled in complete it's going to bring up fourth down and another punt just 15 seconds to go so nice and important showing there from the vikings defense able to stop any more damage before half time as i knock on every piece of wood up here vikings gonna need a big punt return here to give themselves a shot to score again and he's not really going to get much of a chance at that ball kind of rolls inside the 15 and the vikings with four seconds to go won't have a lot of options here in a and forth affair two years ago seems to have turned into a defensive battle so far here with four seconds left in the first half looks like derek west will come out do they have a trick up their sleeve are they just going to take a knee here with four seconds to go two wide receivers to his left one to his right give his up the middle and that'll do it here for the first half your score from long beach the tigers of riverside 14. the vikings of long beach city college three you have to and we'll be back for the second half coming up uh yes thank you oh you want the link the whole time but it's on there forever yeah corey martin's got one and a half no thank you how are you doing okay there you go yeah i found it okay youtube yeah that's a good turnout so it's trying to figure out where's 25 percent send it over to you tell the tapes does it make you feel like you're close yeah i'm one of them i got exactly the correct yard oh that's nice so no no passing anything no i was going to when i got too caught up oh that thing oh binoculars i thought there might be a chance and what job do you want the role of magnum pi 21st century magnum pi is no turnovers net is like including the loss real quick bob are you there bob are you there so looking for bob please um it wouldn't zero oh this i just got a phone call from someone that said on the youtube channel they could hear everything we were saying during halftime i have no idea what we said can you explain how that happens i don't even know bob the people at home said they heard everything we said during halftime i thought we were out okay so that could be quite embarrassing okay okay i have no idea what we said okay hello do you ever oh okay welcome back to a saturday night at long beach city college we're here at veterans memorial stadium riverside leads long beach 14-3 johnny tell us a little bit what you see there on the tail of the tape it was an absence of a lot of options there in the first half yeah not much offense going on these defenses proving stout so far for these teams particularly on the riverside side long beach only three first downs 122 yards for the riverside squad 105 for the vikings so there really hasn't been much to pull away one from the other uh part given a couple penalties where lbcc has gotten five for 75 yards each team with five punts i'm sure the coaches have stressed some adjustments at halftime so we'll see what they're able to do coming out here into the second half to break through those offenses if we're going to see another defensive style it could gum down to it it's funny to see after a 28-31 game two years ago to have only 17 points on the board at halftime the vikings haven't scored since uh ryder padilla's field goal midway through the first quarter we did get to talk to both coordinators and the head coach uh peabody of long beach the other day and we were curious i think in our conversations about whether this long layoff would lead to kids being better prepared all that time and repair or whether there would be some rust i think the latter is the conclusion here in the first half but hopefully those coaches got on their white boards there in the halftime locker room and come up with some alterations and let's see if they can fix some of that offense here in the first half because it's been all defense mostly so far especially for riverside big booming kick there by riverside and it looks like he's gonna bring it out of the back of the end zone i mean he had to be nine and three-quarter yards deep in the end zone he brought it out questionable decision as the vikings will take over at the nine yeah you'd think tiptoeing on the back end of the end zone would be a clear indicator of downing that ball but he decided to risk it luckily able to get out about the 10-yard line so he left a little bit of room but the vikings not doing themselves any favors here probably 11 yards short of what they could have started with there at the 20. [Music] after seeing three quarterbacks in the first half curious to see who they're going with here tie on harvey so we're seeing quarterback number four for the vikings look like triple threat option play there tion is going to keep it for himself not too often you get to see the fourth quarterback on a depth chart we were told that young tyon harvey did play in the game when these two teams met as opponents in 2019 big gain of eight on the keeper i mean this is a serious change up here give up the middle looks like that should be a first down and it is a first down for the vikings on the quick give to strong mateley with ty on harvey coming in wondering if they're switching that strategy to pounding using that offensive line pounding it on the ground trying to get some yardage there jet sweep to the far sideline looking for room around the corner he definitely gets back to the line of scrimmage but not much more zach martin on the end around met by kylan ross there [Music] vikings really stressing that versatility on offense trying anything out here to get some yardage going yeah besides the word versatility i think the word we heard out of them more than often was multiples they said we have multiples multiples at every position derek west has entered the game now after the first down in the good start by tyon harvey and west wants to run it himself west has a strong arm but the quarterbacks i mean the the coaches when we had a chance to talk to them on thursday we were saying we'd like for him to tuck the ball and go a little more often he's so confident with his arm he often doesn't like to to take off and run and it was all about opportunity when we talked to them it's it's if he doesn't see something downfield using that athleticism to gain some yards that way and not making the poor decision that almost looked like a design keeper play hard to tell without the benefit of knowing what coach flynn called but i can imagine they might have signaled in a quarterback keeper because they want him to consider doing that more often definitely philosophically that's what they were telling us the other day so an injured tiger has been removed from the field will get restarted here just over two minutes gone in the second half vikings trailing 14-3 but hoping to reignite that offense that came out so strong in the first half with the ground game west looks to throw scampers to his right out of bounds near the 30-yard line and that's exactly what we're talking about he looked downfield for the pass didn't see it was able to find some room on the outside there and extend the drive first down for the vikings two quick first downs as they really employ the running game strongly here to kick off the second half two backs in the backfield tyon harvey is back there again and they're gonna just mix things up here it's gonna make it tough on us and tough on the tigers let alone the personnel the offensive strategy here going on the ground for each play so the tie on harvey package four backs in the backfield galloway with the carry and i think we might have a flag down flag down on the far side looks to be some extracurriculars after the play a little confusion amongst our officials try to sort this one out one sportsmanlike conduct on both teams offsetting penalties i'm sure coaching coaches firing up both sides coming out of second half third down and short here for the tie on harvey version of the vikings offense full house backfield just two wide receivers so unusual to see we've seen so much spread offense today a whistle before the play [Music] looks like a timeout vikings elect to take the time out so they decided this third and one here early in the second half is a big play they want to talk things over so far the momentum on their side not only are they switching quarterbacks often today but they're switching quarterbacks mid possession we went from harvey to west back to harvey here and we haven't even matriculated 30 year 30 yards down the field but they have been finding success so far so we'll see if they continue to attack them on the ground see about 10 people in the box for the riverside tigers one back motions left keeper by harvey he's got the first down and it's working so far you can see the commitment to the run there 10 people in the box and they still run it right down their throat they're using that big offensive line to push that tigers front back get room for the runners and let them run [Music] they're going to keep harvey in talk about a commitment to some deception harvey fake give oh harvey's looking to throw from the wildcat set and he's taken down to no avail so that's the first time we've really seen him any sort of play action i'm sure they wanted to show it just so that the tigers would have to respect it the tigers really counting on their defensive backs putting them both on islands out there with the receivers the vikings looking for an opportunity but that line just not able to hold up two-yard loss it'll be second down and 12. two wide receivers three in the backfield [Music] four in the backfield quick give short gain not much it's gonna be third and very long galloway just couldn't find much room there to operate so here's where you have to readjust if you're the vikings they stack the box they start stopping the run you're gonna have to find another way to attack them as wes comes back in here they go they don't even wait on a third down and long they bring in west west checks in on the sideline they want to take a look coach flynn at the tiger defense and reset their play shotgun snap southpaw wants to throw and he's just a little bit over his target to his right lawrence starks in coverage for riverside so a possession that start started so nifty and so clever with that reveal of a fourth quarterback stalls at midfield and here comes the punter jaron lincoln again for long beach bounces the snap and not much on that one he did a good job of making sure to field that snap that was on the ground no return benefits the vikings and you have to wonder we talked about the coaches the inability to really get together for a full fall camp and able to practice if that's what's causing the shortcomings here on the offensive side not getting those reps long beach of course had their scrimmage cancelled during due to coveted related reasons but they did get a dress rehearsal in that week one win last week and something that was not afforded to the tigers thomas kinslow with a nice carry up the middle gain of about nine odom returns as quarterback for the tigers here in the second half give up the middle flag in the backfield got to imagine that's probably coming back megan foreman with a nice tackle but a holding call is going to marks the tigers back interesting to watch this unfold odom came out in two possessions and the offense did nothing for the tigers but bernie replaced him two touchdowns later he staked the tigers to a 14-3 lead and now in the second half we're going back to odom showing a lot of confidence from his coaches to go back to him throws over the middle intercepted either deflected or into the hands of somebody on the viking secondary and that's a huge play that's going to start their offense at the tigers 30-yard line in laughter words we got a flag on the play and those are the kinds of plays we've been seeing all game those tips that have just been finding dirt instead of hands but this time they find some viking hands on the other end and it's jaden davis with the interception the sophomore out of millikin high school we'll just have to sort out the penalty here it's against the tigers unsportsmanlike conduct that's gonna push the vikings even closer to the end zone and this vikings crowd starts to wake up you can feel the energy rising here this is exactly what the vikings needed to turn this game around a big turnover now they're deep in tigers territory looking to put some points on the board it's gonna be tion harvey returning to duties wildcat set generally we haven't seen him throw he did drop back once on a play-action pass harvey on the keeper and he's going nowhere they sniffed that out i'm not sure if he doesn't at least show some sort of pass down field whether or not the tiger defense is going to respect that little quick hesitation where he feigns the throw yeah there was a hole there but it looked like the defense was expecting the run and the second that he broke they closed in on him not much yardage to go you're exactly right so we at some point they're gonna have to show something through the air in order to create some space for tion to full house backfield once again boy those tigers secondary they're really cheating up here daring him to throw we're halfway through third quarter run to the far sideline maybe back to the original line of scrimmage gonna probably bring up third and ten carlos meza able to track that run for the tigers only giving up a few yards there is this mckibben in now quarterback it looks like we might have had a change mckibben's in now third in a long nine for mckibben check in with coach flynn on the sideline well within padilla's field goal range but the vikings want six here we've got a deflection at the line broken up it's going to force the vikings to settle for a field goal attempt vikings not able to do much with that great field position but points here still equally important field goal here gets into a one possession game which would be pretty fortunate the way this offense has kind of struggled so far here today for the vikings padilla's kick line drive kick plenty good and the score is 14-6 so the vikings draw within a touchdown and a two-point conversion and again as i said considering how difficult it's been for their offense to move down the field they got to be grateful that the defense have kept them in this game and points on the board has to feel good for that defense as well they're putting on a great effort for this vikings team and putting up three there getting the game into one possession has to make them feel good give them some energy to come back in and keep hitting hard keep working just keep this tiger to keep the tigers at bay so that interception by jayden davis leads directly to three points the vikings had led off each of the halves with a drive resulting in a field goal and that's been all their offense has been afforded i cannot remember ever watching a football game where seven quarterbacks played that's where we are here seven quarterbacks four for the vikings three for the tigers padilla will kick things off here after his second field goal of the day this is a short kick about the 25 horizontal move now he makes his cut up field to the 40. decent field position for the tigers and we got late action again and things are getting a little testy here in the second half flags on the field lawrence starks there with the nice return but that could be coming back just a bit [Music] so more good news for the vikings the penalties did not go their way in the first half but so far here in the second half they begin 15-yard penalties and their advantage that'll back the tigers back up to 25 where they originally received that kick and this is probably the worst field position they've had since the first quarter and it's gonna matter neither team really doing much on offense so field position is the name of the game right now if you can control that it seems like you can control the offensive tempo the vikings defense will look to stance out here odom's give is up the middle three yards and a cloud of dust less dust of course when artificial turf is in play but metaphor is still intact kinslow with the carry give that to corey martin on the tackle curious how anxious successful quarterback bud bernie is waiting in the bullpen there of course they went to him after two possessions in the first half this is possession number two the last one resulted in an interception it's a keeper by odom he fakes the slide it looked like he was gonna hesitate there and then he changed things up and i think he's got a first down but that he pays the price for that fake as raymond maso pops him but not before getting that first probably the best pickup of the day so far for odom under center he takes the shotgun snap give goes up the middle short gain again looks like another three yard gain on first down that's what they just did in their last set of downs we're just dropping under five minutes here to go in the third quarter that was kinslow again trey edwards with the tackle no huddle going back to tempo quick pitch to the guy in the motion wide receiver first down again [Music] as the tigers catch the viking defense on their heels there now it's ty moore on the end around clayvon kane with the tackle tigers finding momentum here under odom and now they find themselves in vikings territory at the 48. it looks like we have an injured viking down on the field the trainer tends to the wounded viking [Music] we'll say once again that this game is being produced by students in the radio and television program at long beach city college you can get a certificate an associate's degree or transfer to a four-year college by entering the sports broadcasting program at long beach city college to become part of our award-winning student production team please call us at 562-938-4892 that's 562-938-4892 tough to see which member of the vikings defense down there looks like it is number seven hegan foreman gingerly making his long trek across the field disappearing here comes the tigers past midfield first and ten vikings need a stop here to try to keep this a one possession game quick pass wide receiver hitch play for a gain of six or seven on the far side of the field time more met by hagen foreman there riverside going to quick hitters and i think that's given odin some confidence he's found a little rhythm here in the third quarter second down and three takes the snap under center this time motion going from right to left second effort no good as the vikings do a team effort in the backfield to upend that quick pass to the running back caleb harvey with the reception vikings a bit lucky there reggie retslap running free in the backfield but odom didn't see him riverside's gotta wonder if that's gonna come back to bite him after a five yard loss is going to bring up a third and eight viking defense really would like a stop here they want to get the ball back into their quarterback's hands [Music] delay game number eight five yard penalty remains third down so a delay game penalty another big win for the vikings they're going to put their defense they're going to be able to just come after the quarterback in what's certain to be a passing down another penalty there against the tigers not doing themselves any favors here in the second half that pass intended for walter brooks and they're gonna give it to him if it's not a first it's close and they're gonna run quick oh and we got a whistle before the play is that possible we got a flag on the play both teams didn't seem ready for that play and someone's gonna get scolded for something they did and it looks like besides defense contact with the offensive player gonna be the vikings penalty results are first down so that forced tempo by the tigers smart play heady play by the quarterback defense not ready and it costs them first down for the tigers they're now at the 35. odom scrambling to his left he throws to his left incomplete and a dangerous play there rolling to the left stopped came back to the right a little bit through across his bike to the receiver into traffic he was lucky that wasn't intercepted you know the vikings are looking for another big play to help him out here johnny it looks like bud bernie has returned to the backfield for the tigers mid possession i've never seen a game like this [Music] bernie on the keeper short gain not much corey martin able to bring him down from behind third and six from the 30. quick pass completed to marquis ashley scored a touchdown earlier today that's going to be a first down move to chains and the tigers are rolling here just under two minutes left in the third quarter quick give to the back nifty spin move second effort darn near first down it appears it is time out long beach long beach wants a timeout as the tigers are trying to put a chokehold on them they're inside the 10 it's going to be first in goal and they already lead 14 to 6. yeah tigers really moving the ball with ease here and taking a lot of time off the clock they've had this ball for a while bringing it down close to the end of the third quarter inside the red zone here really their best drive of the game the vikings got to find something to figure out how to stop them at least keep them to three here come the viking defense vikings trail by eight score here would make it a uphill climb in the fourth quarter quick give again to the ride receiver in motion he's inside the five in the end zone touchdown riverside does it again their third touchdown and that's ty moore on the end around working around his blockers was able to shed a tackle there at the end and walk right in for six cardo chavez in here for the extra point the extra point is good and riverside now stake to a 21-6 lead any momentum that the vikings had with that second half field goal now upended by a drive that started the 25 yard line here's the touchdown again here we're gonna see more coming around to the right side blockers working only has one guy to make miss and he's able to squeeze through to find paydirt there nice play design for the tigers leads to six that was a 75-yard drive authored by both quarterbacks odom and bernie as these two coaches here are using their quarterback staff like uh joe madden uses a bullpen and now it'll be interesting to see how the vikings come out and attack on the offensive side we've seen in the second half they've really wanted to pound the ball on the ground uh with not much success they can go with the same strategy but at a certain point they're gonna be running out of time so they're gonna have to find something through the air at least to open up those holes on the ground [Music] long beach only had 25 passing yards in the first half now down by 15 it seems like they're gonna have to throw the ball i'm not sure if there's going to be enough time them to run the ball and to be honest the running game has only netted them six points anyways today they're down to their last 16 and a half minutes they're gonna have to find some passing game here which they just haven't been able to get going [Music] but i'm sure it's a challenge that sean flynn is ready to take on like we've said versatility on the offensive side we'll see if they break out anything special try anything different here with the third quarter clock winding down to try and find some space for those playmakers they have kingston holla in short gain [Music] i think this is holla's second stint as quarterback a quartet of quarterbacks doing the job for the vikings just a minute to go here in quarter number three three wide receivers to his right hall of throws to his right on the sideline catch and a first down for the vikings and zach martin laying the wood there he came ready to play drops the shoulder working and that's something that the viking squad takes pride in it's that work it's staying into it and that's something that we should see coming here with the clock winding down is that they keep their heads in it and they keep playing with passion that's the way they're going to get back into this so that's the first completion of the day for kingston holla see if he can find some rhythm here first and ten at their own 37. give up the middle ball is on the ground tussle just outside the 40. and the tigers have it crucial turnover i think it's the vikings vikings first turnover of the day and this one's gonna hurt just 18 seconds left in the third quarter tigers gonna take over the vikings 42-yard line yeah just a tough break for the vikings down 15 looking for some momentum bernie in it quarterback quick give up the middle maybe a one-yard gain clock will tick down and that'll be the end of the third quarter before we resume we have to switch sides the end of the third quarter riverside 21 long beach six long beach gonna have to find something new to flip the script here trailing by 15. very little to write home about in that third quarter yeah vikings really not find able to find any answer on the offensive side on their first drive finding three points similar to what they did in the first half the defense has still been able to stay strong only giving up one score but it's really going to be up to the offense trying to find some room get some big plays in here open up the field for these playmakers to score some points long beach knew they'd be tested today again this is the number two team in the state these riverside tigers and they've showed why connors runs to his right and then finds room to his left on a second effort what looked like a two-yard gain turned into close to an eight-yard gain but there is a flag on the field as well as a helmet foreign objects all around block in the back number 57 of the offense 10-yard penalty second down penalties have hurt the tigers here in the second half but not on the scoreboard only two penalties in the first half for the tigers they've more than doubled that here in the second half more bud bernie at quarterback for the tigers empties the backfield quick throw to his running back he's past the 50 inside the 45 flag comes in from the defensive secondary mark gibson on the tackle there as we wait for the rest number 27 of the offense that's a 10-yard penalty remains second down another holding penalty against the offense back up the tigers if you're the tigers that's the last thing you want these penalties backing you up if you're the vikings this is very fortuitous for you the tigers with this lead have been able to take that secondary out of the game a bit here with some yardage to gain though we'll see how they attack it they empty the backfield again on a designed quarterback keeper plenty of real estate up the middle in a slide big gain close to 12 yards there by bernie and that'll bring up a much more manageable third down for the tigers no huddle they want to move quick they'll check in with the sidelines bernie throws to his left he's got a man complete it's close to a first down juwan tucker with the reception thaddeus dixon there to meet him they're a little bit short they're gonna go quick again under center quick give keeper quarterback sneak looks like he has it they've done this before and they've done it successfully now twice first down for the tigers quick pass over the middle ashley with the catch a lot of room there off the line as well the the viking secondary seem to play back a bit just an easy pitching catch for the tigers and another first down don't have the time of possessions to test statistic in front of us right now but i got to imagine the viking defense has been on the field too much too much too long and there's another touchdown and score by riverside it's connors he's the author of the first touchdown number remains first down so we're going to bring that touchdown back connors is not getting a second touchdown of the game and a big side side relief on the viking sideline don't know if they can afford giving up more than a field goal if that touchdown here would make the last 12 minutes pretty academic vikings needed a break and they got one we got a tired defensive unit on the field right now bernie from a shotgun quick give to connors he tries to go to the near sideline ends up going backwards you have to imagine the tigers coaching staff is going to be in his ear about that one injury timeout you do everything you can to make a play but sometimes when you try and extend that play you just end up going backwards that's exactly what conor's did before he's resumed we got an injured viking down on the far side of the field looks like maybe that is alan parrish hoping our best for him vikings more than anything to summon a turnover here can't afford to give up any points down by 15. just over 11 minutes to go in this ball game thomas kinslow on the forward pitch cory martin able to bring him down big third down here for the vikings third down in 16 bernie the quarterback he's been on the field for all three riverside touchdowns he's going to keep it he's going to roll right he's going to throw looks like a completed pass but short of the first down by plenty mark gibson able to bring him down here comes ricardo chavez a big field goal here still a two possession game right now field goal would make it a three possession game delay a game number 10 of the offense five yard penalty remains fourth down delayed game penalty probably just express his confidence in the kicker they were in no hurry figuring he had plenty of leg this will be a 40 yard try for chavez plenty of distance and it's good as you say johnny now it's a three possession game the vikings are going to have to come up with a little more tempo maybe a three possession game but they got to worry about that one first they still got to get that one up on the board touchdown free so far in this game they got to find something to get through on that riverside defense most likely through the air the place where they have the least success today they got to give their defense a break defense been on the field for the majority of the second half here and it's starting to show defense was so so good in the first half they're starting to wilt here deeper in the evening here bezel kickoff vikings down by 18. returning it from the four straight up the gut up ended near the 30-yard line vikings had four quarterbacks in their cupboard see who they go to now down 18 points with just over nine minutes to go kingston holla for his third tour of duty sturdy quarterback oh nearly intercepted isaac garcia getting up there just bounced right off his hands he had two hands on that ball that would have been a pick six for sure [Music] [Music] drops back to pass screen pass to running back a little bit of room and a first down and more down the far sideline inside the 40 to the 30. big game by rodney clemente jr and that's just the kind of thing that the vikings are looking for they need a big play like that get them some yards give them some momentum get some noise in the crowd get them go back up something big try and put some points on the board without taking too much time off the clock hollow wants the throw he's gonna give to his back again far sideline tip toeing out of bounds inside the 30. short gain a little more positive momentum under nine minutes to go second down and four for the vikings throws to his right near sideline incomplete off the hands of the intended receiver tie on harvey out wide couldn't quite reel that one in three wide receivers to his right check in with the sideline here riverside was giving some distance on the last play but it looks like the pressing here daring them to go over the top quick throw and catch first down vikings near the 10-yard line that's zach leads with the catch had a little bit of room in front of that defender but the ball thrown just behind nevertheless big gain for the vikings paula scrambling right nifty move evades one would be tackler couldn't quite get by christian herban it's back to the original line of scrimmage we're under eight minutes to go vikings still trailed by 18. and even though they are moving the ball they're gonna have to pick up the tempo a bit they do have a chance to get a first down it looks like just at about the one and a half yard line little game there looking to see if they can get catch the inside of the tigers sleeping but not much room there clock is their worst enemy as it ticks down under seven minutes third down and eight a little wiggle room for a first down here if they can't get in the end zone he looks right he throws to the end zone low throw is incomplete you have to imagine they're going to go for it here and a field goal does put you within 15 points and two possessions but they're so close they really haven't moved this much all game behind the strength of a couple big plays so a first down or a touchdown required here for the vikings to stay alive [Music] holla wants to throw two two too many defenders in that area interception riverside and you can imagine they're gonna start celebrating on the sidelines and that's just a story of a little bit of desperation causing an error there can't really blame the vikings not much room for error and a tough throw into a crowded end zone comes up on the tiger side interceptions not really much of a turnover on a fourth down can't really throw it away he had to try to force something where he thought he had it but he looked like he was kind of looking at one wide receiver the whole way and the tigers just sniffed that out tigers will take over the 20. 6 28 to go here in the fourth quarter they lead 24-6 and you can imagine they're going to go ground game and his second effort there what could have been a four yard gain turns into a seven or eight yard gain connor's the ball carrier and then a quick quarterback sneak there again run to perfection by the tigers and another tiger first down under six minutes to go from 31 sure the vikings probably could stack the box here no real reason for the tigers to risk throwing the ball at this point give up the middle for a four-yard game i'm not sure if this exhausted viking defense is gonna have what it takes to get the ball back here the time of possession story completely different from first half to second half first half it was about even but the tigers just dominating the time on the ball here in the second half and showing on both sides no rush getting the play in using all of the play clock they get it down to one before the snap smartly stays in bounds there but a flag that's against the tigers coach craft isn't gonna like that lego block in the back number four of the offense 10-yard penalty remains second down and it is tigers executing their offense so well here in the second half they might have two more touchdowns if it wasn't for all the penalties that they've been flagged for at this point the game plan becomes pretty easy run run run run to the right big pick up near a first down just short here at the 40. vikings knew they were in for it knew they were in for a test today coach kraft is 102 and 15 record as head coach at riverside he's got the number two team in the state there's the quarterback sneak again the fourth time in four attempts they've been successful on the short yardage quarterback sneak riverside one of the most storied traditions in juco football coach kraft one of the most legendary coaches in junior college football i believe he's the only coach in california to have won 100 games at two schools doing the trick at both riverside and palomar college quick give up the middle on first down and they're just picking up big chunks now at this point the clock rolls under three minutes here long beach only has one timeout left so there's little they can do to stop the clock they'll definitely have some takeaways after this game most notably what they can do on offense to move that ball down the field coaching staff did say they missed a lot of practice they knew that they weren't getting off to a quick start in terms of preparation but they couldn't help but say how important it was to get a lot of guys in they feel like they got a deep roster and they've showed that plenty of reps for lots of different guys at lots of different positions and their hope is to get themselves in a position to contend for a conference title and they still got three more games to get ready for that conference schedule and long beach city college a team that typically gets better as the season goes on like you said not a lot of time for reps in the preseason and in juco football with guys graduating on to bigger programs for your program so often it just exacerbates the situation and makes it that much more difficult to really find your flow and find that momentum on either side of the ball vikings definitely have some things to work on here but this coaching staff committed to to preparing them in the best way that they can and getting them ready for for the games upcoming now unfortunately a little extracurricular activity sure the frustration kind of pouring in it's a big rivalry in southern california football again all week long beach talking about the unfinished business they had from that 2019 game a disappointing night the frustration starting to bowl over officials are huddling to sort this one out most of the action took place after the conclusion of play it's possible here just by watching them pull out their scorecards we put their dead ball fouls on both teams personal foul number 51. on sportsmanline contact on number one those penalties will cancel out the play counts third down offsetting penalties results in no change the clock will continue to roll and the tigers continue to chew up the play clock they run it down intelligently game clock under two minutes now give up the middle and then he rolls right more kinslow in the backfield more frustration after the play [Music] just 90 seconds left to go long beach will study some tape tomorrow they'll get back on the turf on monday and they'll get ready for a road game rcc next week that is their first time out at chafee college they won't return home for two weeks when san diego mesa comes to town in the meantime they're gonna have to make some adjustments whole season ahead of them they'll leave the field one and one today of course riverside still two years the defending state champions will move to 1-0 in their opener i'd say the story of the game again was seeing seven quarterbacks without i don't think we saw one quarterback injured i can't imagine ever seeing a football game where seven quarterbacks play and not one of them got injured that was something that the coaches said we could expect to see as a rotation at quarterback based on where they were in the game seemed like they were trying to figure something out with one of them today and just couldn't quite catch the right one something one of those big questions they'll want to figure out as they continue through the season long beach used tyon harvey it's kind of a trick up their sleeve at quarterback i wonder if they even imagined that riverside was going to pull out the connors kid to do kind of a similar thing and in his one shot at quarterback i think connors had in his one one appearance he got a touchdown yeah going with that wildcat package walked right into the end zone but again with these deep rosters that you see after this down year from last year with rosters so big that's something you'll probably see across a lot of juco programs are a lot of versatility switching in and out trying different things it's kingston holla back at quarterback for the vikings he drops back to throw but he's taken down in the backfield he loses the ball in the process rcc riverside recovers the ball and there's your exclamation point on a very fine day for the riverside tigers and after a first half with no turnovers we've had a second half with four three of those going against the vikings that fumble on the last play of course the fourth down interception probably lesser on the the turnover scale but still something they want going to want to clean up going into next week's game against chafee so the vikings will have to regroup nothing brings the team together like a good road trip they'll have to get on a bus make that trek out to chaffey college see if they can flip the script on this season after a disappointing night against riverside got a whistle on the field looks like it might be a delay a game no penalty for delay game on second thought i think the official said let's see how quickly we can get out of here another play stoppage let's see what's going on and it looks like this one's over looks like both teams are conceding 20 seconds left on the clock but both teams are headed back to their own sidelines the final score here in long beach riverside 24. long beach six for john martin and this is toby hussein good night from veterans memorial stadium on september 11th 20 years later again we salute all the victims all the families all the first responders all the troops have served this country in the 20 years since that day good night from long beach
