Landscape Photography l NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC - IMAGE AT 9:15 MAKES IT!!

[Music] now all the way from my homeland or play all the way to New Zealand and all the places in between everybody these days as a photographer with access to reasonably priced digital equipment and also smart phones a naturally cool bags and carriages people to look at the world in greater detail and record for the scene and it's good for me too because it pushes me on to take a better photographs and a previously taken before should be easy enough to sit in the cabin this morning and say look at that sunset we got last night was just incredible I have my shot for the trip but looking outside and looking at the weather the conditions but almost perfect and it pushes you on to go and try and record that it's icy underfoot there's a path but we can't see it for frozen glasses overtop and it's pretty precarious because of carrying 45 to 50 kilograms of gear the conditions were perfect but I don't think any of us realized what was in store once we got there [Music] wait that's baby well let the mountain before the rocket yeah I've never actually seen that anything as dramatic as this and I've been taking floor graphs for a while so the time is just after 7 o'clock we've come back up to tons this morning to try and have a look at the turns at sunrise with the mountain and behind us now I was gonna have talked this morning about how different it is to try and control the light in your shot on a sunrise I suppose the sunset because you're motor control of the light they see see the light coming and a sunrise softer they the side here I'm not sure if you can see the fact that we've got some really nice color starting so the sunrise has started over the horizon but it's been snuffed out by some really heavy low-hanging cloud on the eastern horizon which is going to probably spoil they spoil the color that we're getting on the mountain but again a ton if you can see it's probably too dark the months that the catch then Condesa glow now from the orange from the Rising Sun over in the eastern horizon so this morning we've got a few others we've got Scott we've got Dave sorry Dave you filming and we've got Dave's nephew over here and they're both gonna get cold but sitting on that frost now the very top of the mountains got cloud sitting on top of it like a skullcap which is actually pretty cool and that's that into light up now I'm just gonna set up and sit down by the water The Times is actually frozen this morning as the temperature here is probably around about minus 4 this morning and there's a little wind chill coming off there SC fortunately and not the moment I saw two minutes I'm gonna get set up [Music] all that CloudFormation was quite nice or no so it's just a waiting game we can give now so I'm all set up here with the G of X 50 and I can't believe how like the thing is it's it's more like a conventional DSR if not like it'd been medalists so I've taken a couple of shots I've gotta what lines have I gotten Dave 32 to 64 which is really quite wide for a for a medium format so no need for a panel this time I can get all I said so we've got some mics in the foreground with some grass in the foreground [Music] [Music] I just don't [Music] what might do actually might lose a loaf pan oh so much I might actually do a vertical panel with a landscape frame to get one one crop but wide both horizontally and vertically as well so we've got some colors that the farm here in the and the southeast corner of the mountain that's going to aunty red and that should intensify over time and we've got some clouds or what's the right at about here we're actually just catching the white lightness they're not that any shadow off the Sun and with the polarization of the blue sky behind it's actually really really nice this is a beautiful shot it's a beautiful spot none of the shots have any good but the yeah this by itself is just that we've seen this we've got on the focus ring unless we start focus on hope from foreground to background we almost get a pixelation effect sure see is planar focus is focus peaking yeah yeah that's amazing that's pretty cool because it gives you your debt to feel pretty yeah let me get the color that we want it today but there's some color Forman in there on the right hand side here there's pinks and blues so I'll try and capture that when it's still there and I'm not gonna get that primary light before it breaches the horizon moves with pride bank after they laugh at least that's a shame but I'll carry on and we'll put up in this video shot something just looking pretty [Music] so I'm set up here behind the camera and what I'm doing here is I'm actually gonna do a focus stack I've actually taken the glasses here in the foreground now I've just taken that one and now I'm focusing in on the mountain and then I'll take another one it's a one second exposure at f/16 I know that I've taken both shots there I'll show you how that looks it's quite dark I can left all the detail out of the shadows which allows me to keep the color in the sky all I'm gonna do now is I'm just gonna loosen this off and I'm gonna race this up I've just gone through a process of setting the proper Kelvin making sure that I don't get any quite balanced changes and I'm gonna raise this back up I'm gonna do this to frame panel [Music] which is a vertical panel with a horizontal or landscape frame [Music] Oh - that's both of these together I should actually get something quite nice [Music] [Music] and sitting here in this boxy with a spectacle going on in front of me was mind boggling and the clouds he's streaking across the sky which is going to get better and better and better just have to do a second explosion Bradley that's right I'd say [Music] some spoiled for choice this morning so I'm putting down the GFX 50 and now I'm picking up a 6 4 5 Z so to medium format cameras pretty cool and the color is just starting to kick off on the right hand side of the mountain here so set up quickly some plywood coming in behind us so we're going to get some bleach out at the cloud I've gotta go quick this is better than last night Scott this is better than last night [Music] the conditions are set the change quit quickly now so off with men tactics were five and back on with Fuji dfx 50s for one last shot and this would be the last shot of the day that didn't let us to her [Music] dip to color that you've gotten here in the river left all these shadows and stuff it's just a lot of the ring yeah see the white part over there [Music] yeah but that that's a rut live now I've never taken as many photographs in one place and let's test them adjust to how nice this was so I think that's US done making some lovely single shots with much just seeing that there's still some light coming through just through the clouds the clouds come in now and swamp below me but some lovely photographs of some beautiful color than the south out in the southeast so we're looking forward to get nice into Lightroom to see what I've gotten I've taken shots with both the Fuji G of X 50 and also my own 6 4 5 Z renders gonna see how they render definitely both short and raw shadow detail how much in the sky this morning despite not being perfect was just amazing so I'm really looking forward to getting these up get any Sun later I'm getting these done and sharing these with G and B even the team up at full gear and Auckland forgiving me there the effect is pretty cool it's pretty cool we're gonna head back to the hut just very short the biggest the a light has gone now it's now daylight and with that the colour goes just as we predicted so head back down to the hut and grab some hot tea or something in Leo Leslie quick my no because that heaps and heaps of equipment we've got this one I think where we but already quick live Wow can ever be over I think over but we've certainly got a lot of stuff with us so back to the Hat I have to work to these parts do because the parts really icy and we might fall over I don't want to be cutting anybody off this moment so fun what's up what's do that ah dear this morning who makes the climb up here what yeah it's just the noise that you never do again but I probably would that was incredible I feel like I might do it again before you leave that was quite sure that was nice it was gonna take some time to realize the enormity of what just happened and that would sink in over time that's pretty cool the spirits were quite high leaving here to head back to the hut I made a little joke about not returning the camera to default either Nakhla I'm just keeping them and it's not the photograph all the time it's about the photograph from the janux that you take with other people and experience us that you share together I think when you told us that we were about halfway the reason I said that we were halfway was there's no way we were gonna miss this might take another leak when you go off the beaten track you're sometimes afforded some beautiful things that you wouldn't see from the roadside and I've encouraged you to get out off the road in the fields in the bush and I find this quite a lot in New Zealand we stopped in the cloud line where we started last night to wait and one last opportunity to see this mountain before we lost it forever Taranaki made one last appearance just the shores whose box what is your strength it's where the sky meets their [Music] right I'm sorry yep nice to meet you man all right thanks no photography is good for the soul and find some pretty sure it's therapeutic the two-hour walk down here it's good time to reflect on what just happened but affordable Drive and my journey hasn't finished yet because I've got to take my process from having seen it having played on a sensor [Music] seen it on the screen and getting it enlarged and printed Bank framed up and stuck in a wall that's the stuff that I do until next time cheerio [Music]
