Lambing on Christmas Day: Vlog 204

look what we got we have a Christmas baby [Applause] [Music] you [Music] look what we got last night you got a Christmas Christmas Eve baby you're a good mom I can't believe you're that big and you had that little squirt see if we have a Christmas baby guys look like you had too much Christmas punch last night no Christmas morning babies so disappointed Merry Christmas you guys no Christmas babies but we added Christmassy babies so my math was right I came out about 9:30 last night sure enough when you're in your pajamas and not wanting to do anything that's when there's a lamb so I was pretty excited it's funny I've been lambing for a month and had like four days of no lambs that I was in withdrawal there there might be problem there I'm on for everything today I gave Krista the day off just so she can be with her family I don't I actually I actually like Christmas today in the barn I just find it's I find it's a peaceful place to be so I'm on feeding beauty chore duty I should try to meet up with my family sometime today and have breakfast we should do a nice big breakfast I think marks dad and his partner Liddy are coming over mid-afternoon other than that Christmas Day we're pretty quiet I've invited a couple friends over if they wanted to just chill come over for a drink or whatever but other than that we don't have a big Christmas my family Christmas is tomorrow in Paris just gonna check these babies and I might run in and finish my coffee I hope you all have a good Christmas [Music] [Music] okay it's 6:00 a.m. I ran up the house I was out here at 4:00 did my little check went back to the house finished finished editing finished my coffee I just want to quickly finish chores I'm probably not going to bed till later this afternoon in case my barn rains again check any lambs that look like they might need help and hopefully get back to the house before my family wakes up that's always the goal on Christmas Day to get my chores done before family wakes up and then I can hang out with them and not worry about the pardon for a while [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] just finished feeding feeding that family now I got to go feed my family actually mark probably will feed our family he is he is the cook of the house although not all the time but when he does do it everybody is much happy what a great morning it's foggy very foggy it's funny Christmas morning I find it so quiet that you that you're quiet in your thoughts and it's just it was a good time for me to think about Amy and you know how far I've come in a year but how close to the surface it always is still so I had a little cry in the tractor and oh I just she's just really heavy on my heart and I can't repress it when I'm tired not that I want to repress it but Wow grief can just be all-encompassing and it will just blow you over when you least expect it but today it was more good memories with her not so much the sadness this is my most favorite week of the year it is isn't it yep on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me Denix [Laughter] today was more remembering instead of missing I feel like she's here I just always think of her family and her kids I guess I beat them out okay I'm gonna grab a coffee what do you get a kid studying electricity for Christmas what did we get you jack I don't even know what this is called a wet it a lettuce cope sillas oscilloscope and are we happy with the hull excellent Christmas is in the oven on the stovetop and seem to be poured that's what that is yeah that channel yeah what are you guys watching him do that looks scary to me like it looks like a heart monitor oh my god do you say that yeah what is this called Christmas crack reindeer crack mm-hmm that's good my hands are shaky I'm sorry mom yeah oh geez you gotta get hit jack undoes our best one yet look what we got we have a Christmas baby I figured they were gonna start coming today or yesterday even I move that you okay it's the Pens to hang out with lady no show the people how cute he was all right and I haven't checked her for a second one I'm sure she has one I'm gonna let her just do her thing I did check her for milk but she's she's been pawing a lot so I'm assuming she's gonna have another one of course this only had one so who knows but I need to go do chores across the road still so everybody's got to just hold on everybody just hold on man Christmas cows what do you want you want me to give you a little some some little Christmas dinner hi baby how's my girl oh great christmas Lammers pretty quiet there's a lot of work over here are you guys I got a lot of weigh in to do I have been completely preoccupied by babies that my big ones are getting big I just checked my camera here cuz I'm in the other barn and knew that you would be lambing and she popped out another one and I wasn't even there I could watch it on the camera so automatic feeders are a wonderful thing when you're paying attention I was wondering why would they were taking so long to fill these feeders my corn had bridged or something blew a fuse and now to my feeders were half full of concentrate and no corn so I am now peeling out bailing out all that concentrate and starting over [Music] [Music] [Music] Christmas baby hello dude dude look behind you look behind your Vinny just gonna run away hey she literally crawled right out of you wait get up get up come on look behind you mom this is oh my god you wonder how they never know that they had another one I get up oh if I wasn't there she would have run away when you let me check your ID right here good good you're welcome [Music] thank you got another Lam our visitors finally arrived this afternoon I had just changed out of my Bayern clothes and I kept watching her in the Cameron she kept getting up getting down getting up getting down doing the turn doing the pie and I'm like she's the new not too long sight I changed my clothes again and ran out to the barn and she popped out it's just so nice if I don't have to help I just I worry when they really are straining a lot that the lamb is coming backwards to looking like everything what's it looking like she might have another one very uncomfortable already trying to get out it's amazing a big lamb [Music] literally five minutes old that is unreal well mom I'd like to move you somewhere cleaner since you dug that right all up well I'm so glad I brought her in and second for another am this you has been really straining for a while I've been watching her in the cameras like I said and the first one came out I think no problem the second lamb she had was a really big lamb and it was stillborn and the prop and then she had a third one and it's fine but if I hadn't checked for that for that second one the problem is a stillborn lamb is really really hard for a you to push out even if it's positioned right which it wasn't the head was curled under again so this you potentially that lamb that lamb has likely been causing her a lot of straining over the last a while that's why I came out in Sector and if I'm got that second one out she spit out the person once is good if I hadn't got out that second one it acts like a road block and likely would have killed this third one because the third one just couldn't get out and I can tell already it's like full of meconium staining which means it's been a struggle for this year both labs have meconium staining which means the lamb poops in their water sac and that's a usually good sign they use this in labor for a while or straining maybe so I'm really glad I came out even sometimes it's hard when you have company and it's Christmas and you don't want to go back out because you're like this they used to do it on their own they should and they do but after a while you get a gut feeling of what a you looks like in labor and if you think that they're struggling and I just had that gut feeling I'm just glad for once I listened to it and came out there's old hungry hippo down there and this is the moon alright one more check tonight before I turn the lights out I just wonder if those new lamps to make sure they're okay and according to the cameras there's been no more in the lands but I want to double check because sometimes they can hide behind the manger and I can't see them on my camera and they're really loud I can hear them in the house they're so loud [Music] you
