the freedom and the ability to come here god to worship you god and god i pray right now for uh got a touch of your presence here today god god i pray that your spirit will be so evident god god as we lift up worship we lift up songs of praise and god as your word goes forth god that you'll speak to our hearts god we uh we are ready right now to receive from you god so father just have your way in minister to you today [Music] again [Music] god i worship you [Music] different opinions different struggles got some come today rejoicing some come today with their hearts heavy some are coming today god was speculation and skepticism some are coming today with deep hurts and wounds but lord i'm so glad today that when we approach the throne of grace that we're all equal we all come just needy people and nothing is too difficult for you and nothing is too high for nothing too small for you lord today that we i can come to a god who hears us and answers and come to god who sues healing but also the surgeon who is able to take that scalpel and remove that and what is causing uh that problem in our life and lord we come just as we are today and we need your grace in this room every person in this room today every person watching us online tuning in virtually every one of us we need your grace today we need your strength today father we pray oh god for those looking our way looking to the church to pray god we pray for eugene today god we pray in the mighty name of jesus that you would heal her body as she's going through chemotherapy and cancer treatments lord i pray that you would do the work god i pray that you would fix what is wrong [Music] god i pray for the marriages that have struggled some that seems that they're so far gone god i pray lord that you would heal and lord let truth come to the surface lord bring healing god for the [Music] anxiety and depress god i pray in the name of jesus god that you would just have your way and lord be the lifter of their heads today god i ask lord that you would just be honored and glorified and god should there be one in this room that do not know you in a personal way before they leave today they would encounter you thankful for the amazing grace of god that allowed you to be here today i'm so thankful for the grace of god you guys are works of miracles look us on beside you and say you're a work of miracle from six to seven we're gonna have an hour of worship and prayer together and we're gonna pray unite together and pray for this election churches right across the lakeland are meeting all this week to do it and we want to take sunday night for our church family to come together worship pray and believe for god to do something great through this election see all this weekend [Music] to be a christian is to be attacked by the enemy of everything good anti-god anti-christ anti-love satan is not a pushover he's not a joke he's not something we should talk about lightly like oh the devil made me do it he is very real he's looking for weakness the next thing you know you've been drifting away from even truth that you once held to and a faith that was once precious and you don't know how did i get here if you just go by what you see here and now you can be overwhelmed i had to learn the secret of how to walk by faith when you become a christian you are now entering into the arena of spiritual warfare so every day we have to be aware of what is satan up to in our lives satan will be defeated as we do what god calls us to do and satan will not interrupt us because we're more the lord the joy of the lord is our strength um also this coming wednesday night is prayer gathering you don't want to miss it be a part of that at seven o'clock and then the week following we will be launching into our study of spiritual warfare so as we have been doing every time we've gathered whether on sunday or wednesday we've been saying this prayer together as a part of the cry movement in our nation tonight at six o'clock be come and be a part of a night of worship uh the purpose of tonight is just to simply uh exalt jesus over our nation symbolic bollockly and over this area and we just want as many as we can uh to come tonight and uh so one third capacity for us is 80 people so if 80 people came to worship and pray tonight that'd be amazing uh so yeah come tonight at six o'clock for a night of worship let's stand together let's pray this prayer on the screen are you ready it says we magnify the name of jesus over canada and declare that our trust is in you and you alone oh lord we humble ourselves before you in repentance for our many grievous sins and plead your blood over our land in this election we pray you would cause us to elect candidates whose hearts are soft to your will who will stand for righteousness and who will have wisdom to govern canada in these days we pray that you would remove those who do not have your heart or wisdom to govern canada for the sake of our children and future generations we ask that you would release great honor for your word upon all of canada that you would call expose corruption in government and that you would convict canadians from sea to sea to turn to you with all their hearts souls minds and strength we thank you for your mercy and grace amen you may be seated as as we were praying that just now this thought came to me when it just said um uh um where is that we pray that you would uh hmm i think they took it out that quick oh yeah there it is we ask that you would release great honor for your word upon all of canada and i thought start with the church first that you would return great honor for your word in the church because the reality is we are not electing a messiah hello we are not electing a messiah we already have one his name is jesus and you better be okay with what the lord chooses um and we live in this part of the world we get to be a part of that but it's funny how christians say the lord um the lord appointed people that they like but they he permits those they don't [Laughter] but he always uh brings them to power and so on tuesday morning or whenever that may be i want you to be okay with that and pray right pray but do your part and get out and vote well we are in part nine of our series in real life and you're saying how many messages can you get out of the smallest book not the smallest but one of the smallest books first timothy um well there's a lot in the word of god an old-time preacher that i know who's gone to be with jesus he used to stand he said turn into the inexhaustible word of god and i was a part of a revival service where the preacher preached the same verse for seven nights so it's always something new greater depths and and greater revelation are you thankful for the precious holy spirit that brings illumination to the word of god you see christianity is not an information lecture religion where we just come together and listen to lectures and we try our best to align to the lectures no we are a uh is a movement of transformation the holy spirit takes the word and brings it to our hearts and transforms our lives not just our thinking but that has to happen as well that is scriptural too but we ask holy spirit to come and make his word alive to us we're going to jump right in because of time and um if you have your bibles i want you to turn to first peter chapter four first peter chapter four and we're gonna be looking at verse one to eleven and we're just gonna uh walk our way through it okay and we're gonna park after different sections and we're not gonna read it all one block as i usually do but we're just going to walk through it segment by segment and i just want you to remember that peter was writing to a church who were not unfamiliar with suffering a congregation or multiple congregations the church in in asia minor which we now know as turkey and the believers were there because they were running for their lives they fled from jerusalem and now we're headed north there and when they got there they found that they were also persecuted and uh so peter was writing this letter to them as a note of encouragement but not just encouragement to coddle but encouragement for them to to move forward it was almost like orders in a march you know this is how we move forward in real life and no greater time than now it seems like every message that we come to every part of the scripture is pertinent to where we're at today and so we're going to read together uh verse one and two first so if you don't have a bible with you is on the screen and for those who are with us virtually today it is there for you to see and it reads as it follows it says therefore and whenever there's a therefore you want to find out what it's there for read verse chapter 3 before to see how uh he was talking about you know christ's sacrifice and how we are to to live our life and it continues in that vein it says therefore since christ suffered in his body arm yourselves also with the same attitude everyone say attitude attitude is so important if there was a word that i could say to the church of the lakeland and to canada is watch your attitude because that speaks volumes of where your heart is at so peter is saying arm yourself so we think about when someone's armed right armed and dangerous we think about giving someone like a loaded gun or a weapon of some sort for battle for combat right but peter is saying arm yourself prepare yourself being in the right stance in your attitude in your thoughts because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin as a result they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for human evil human desires but rather for the will of god i just want to park there for a second what is the holy spirit speaking to us in this what was the holy spirit moving upon peter to write to the church what was he saying to those precious believers that was so significant that he would take this portion how is it applying to our lives today well this is what i submit to you today that it was a necessity out of our mindset that we have a determination the same determination that jesus christ had that led him all the way to the cross despite of all the insults despite of all pain despite of all the inconveniences despite of all the times that he could have taken the easier way out or he could have uh like that song says he could have called ten thousand angels what the same determination that led jesus all the way to the cross we too must have that same determination to be holy now holiness is a foreign word in our church culture today and it seems that as soon as a pastor says we must be holy he is deemed a legalist he's legalistic oh he's going to talk about the length of your hair and the clothes you wear and the makeup you don't wear and all these things but holiness is as important now as it has ever been holiness is a life of separation unto god and we talked about that a few weeks ago holiness is separated from the world and to god holiness is so needed today for anyone who says i am a christian you are compelled to be holy in all you do it is not just an exterior thing although it can include that one preacher i know that i love says when you get saved your wardrobe does too but but it changes everything about us it changes our attitude it changes how we conduct ourselves on the workplace it changes how we live how we go through the drive through at tim horton's holiness as on to the lord now it's a mentality it's it's something that we have he said arm your thoughts your attitude arm yourself with this mentality that i'm willing to sacrifice i'm willing to die to myself to my flesh my my desires the same way that jesus christ died so that i could stand before god and be holy in his presence and we all want the quick answers don't we we want the quick victories we want the the effortless you know that's the mantra of our culture we want what is easy everyone that shows up to the game deserves a trophy right we just want everybody to win but can i say to you today that this precious gift of salvation through jesus christ it is not just some circus it is not some sideshow could i hear an amen to that it is not something that makes our life more entertaining and gives us a more rounded experience as we journey this earth you know gives us because we're all spiritual as the term is no not at all salvation you see we made the gospel glamorous we made the gospel something that is not but the gospel is gory the gospel is bloody and the gospel is sacrifice salvation comes with words like i am crucified with christ salvation comes with words like take up your cross daily and follow salvation comes with words like share in the fellowship of his suffering words like offer your bodies as living sacrifices holy and pleasing to god it is no wonder that peter admonished that group of believers and he's saying to us today on this precious day on the on the 19th of september 2021 he's saying to us keep moving forward don't give up have that same determination even if it means suffering for it even if it means being misunderstood misrepresented for it you stand for jesus now let me pause here be uh be careful what you think is standing for jesus and standing for preferences because a lot of people christians have demonized other christians for not taking the same stand as they did when it was their preferences not for uh righteousness so be careful of that and we're going to get to that a little bit more a little later but we must have that same determination jesus said things that were hard for us to hear jesus said if your hand causes you to sin cut it off yeah think about that how many have ever had a major cut before like i mean you had to have stitches yeah if your hand causes you to sin cut it off if your eye causes you to sin pluck it out it is better to go to heaven maimed than to go to hell whole whoa jesus that is strong words now some people have made a doctrine out of that and they've self-mutilated which is not right he wasn't saying to do that what he was saying is we must be willing to suffer pain and the loss because our desire to be right with god is more important than anything else in this world and peter here is talking the same type of language and he says to the church who was uh they were they were under great pressure they were under um immense stress under immense pain and some were probably getting a little tired a little lazy a little compromising a little uh loose in their living and saying is it really worth it and it's like peter was saying to the football team for those who went to football last night saying to the football team at halftime come on guys we got to keep going to the end we got to keep at it let's keep reading verse number three he says for you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do now i love this word living in debauchery you know how many use that in your vocabulary already this morning right you used debauchery this morning in debauchery in lust drunkenness orgies drinking parties crowsing detestable idolatry they are uh these people the non-regenerated are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless wild living and they heap abuse on you but they will have to give an account to those who to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead it is as peter was asking this question haven't you had enough yet it's like peter was asking the church haven't you had your fill of the world why do you want to go backwards in your consecration to christ why are you looking over your shoulder and saying well she doesn't he does it well i don't want to stand out i want to fit in like this is my ministry i'm going to be a missionary so i'm going to just go and sit at the bar and have a few drinks you know this is my day god is calling me yeah it is interesting um pastor lincoln one of our chaplain pastors in college said he said i wouldn't allow my wife to dress like a to win a and it's true we don't necessarily have to be a sinner to win a sinner we had to be salt and light and that's the truth why are you always looking over your shoulder why are you uh attracted to that keep moving forward it requires sacrifice and you know the truth of the matter is there are many people who show up on a sunday morning not just here and never here but around our world especially in north america and they give no second thought to how their life from monday to saturday shows or depicts the sacrifice of jesus christ there are so many people that that say they're christians and and you hear it all the time and there's a sad commentary especially in our times when people say if that's the church i'm out because we have focused on minor things and not upon the proclamation and declaration of jesus christ these are to be the past way of living look at verse four it says they are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless and wild living when jesus came he gave himself sacrificially died on a cross for you and for me and it's because of that mercy it brings us to repentance it's because of that mercy that we offer ourselves as living sacrifices it is because of that sacrifice that we're willing to give it all for jesus christ and this is the beauty of the gospel it is applicable to here in bonneville and is applicable to pakistan it is applicable into the underground church in china that every person must be willing to sacrifice everything they've got to serve jesus christ and some of us here today it is hard to hear because our our hearts have been conditioned to live a life of not just ease but of complacency it appears strange to the unbeliever a young adult who desires to live for jesus someone in high school who desires to live for jesus someone on the work job on the work site who desires to live for jesus it seems strange to those who when you say no i don't do that no i can't go there no we don't participate in that because i love the lord see it was very blatant in ancient times when peter wrote this it was very common for them to go to the the temple in the temple was the center of entertainment you had it all there man you had meeting rooms where you can hang out with your friends you had houses of prostitution where you can go and have your little fling and there were restaurants so go eat steak afterward but then you go worship the god a little bit more blatant but the same principles are true today the same principles are there today it is very real reality today most of the entertainments that was found then the church had to make a line of demarcation where they said we do not go there we do not participate in that because those who went there indulged themselves in a little bit of everything what does debauchery mean what does that word mean some translation calls it lewdness simply put in the greek that were translated simply says living with no restraint doing whatever makes your heart happy and that is the catch catchphrase of our culture if it makes you happy if it makes you happy marriages have ended because it made him happy people have lived and messed up lives and and uh are in process of changing their gender because it made them happy we have thrown off all restraint because it makes us happy but can i just submit to you today that there is a standard ever settled in heaven that despite if it makes us happy or not we must be willing to sacrifice our will and say it is all for you jesus i will live to honor you there are some places that you will be invited to go that you will have to say because you're willing to sacrifice it all for the lord to say man i love you i respect you and please don't think i'm better than you but i can't go there i can't go and hang out with you there because of my love for jesus no i can't be there with you alone because i honor the lord jesus no i cannot do that see that listen to that because of my love for jesus christ now they may look at you strange and say bad things about you who cares be willing to sacrifice it all because of your love for jesus be prepared for that let's keep going for this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body but live according to god in regard to the spirit now that's a weird verse that's a strange verse like what do you mean he preached to the dead let me tell you what it does not mean it does not mean he preached to the dead as though to give them a second chance there was no such thing as purgatory just in case you're wondering okay at first glance when you read that it seems a little bit odd and some theologians would say that is referring back to those who died in the faith before the messiah came before jesus came those who were looking forward to the coming of the messiah some theologians would say that somehow they were told that jesus had come and that victory had been won but me personally i'm with the other side that would believe that peter was referring to the saints who died in that church in that era people that they knew like aunt mary or uncle billy or or my niece sarah who died in the faith then who served jesus with all their heart and some of them died as a result of persecution they were put to death and he said those who are in the ground the gospel was preached to them and they have no regrets today because they paid the price for serving me and their body and now they're eternally living regards in the spirit with god you see there are no there's no one in heaven who regrets living for jesus and i often say this phrase around my house and probably even around the church i've said it a few times when the gates swing open wide and i finally step inside then i'll be glad i lived for jesus listen don't let anything of this world distract you deter you from serving the lord to the end amen hallelujah we are changed by his coming we are changed by his first coming when he gave his life when he died on the cross and we are changed by his second appearing when he returns let's keep reading the end of all things is near therefore be alert and sober so that you may pray could we read that out loud together come on let's read it the end of all things is near therefore be alert and sober not have sober minds so that you may pray can i just say that this world has an expiration date just like that moldy jesus in your fridge right now it has an expiration date and we do not know the time nor should we go snooping around trying to figure out because sometimes those are locked doors that only the sovereign mind of god would know but the first principle of his second coming we've been changed by his coming and when he sacrificed his life we have this great salvation but we're also changed in light of his return and i know that we don't talk about that as often as we should but what will happen when you live in light of his return you won't study prophecies so that you can have arguments over dates and times and what this means and what the vaccine means and what this one said and what bill gates is all about you won't have debates over that nonsense yes i said nonsense what you will do is you will pray you will fall on your face before god and begin to pray for those who do not yet know jesus you won't fight and fuss over insignificant and unimportant trivial things but you'll fall before god and say god have mercy upon my family my children my grandbabies have mercy upon my neighbors help me to share the gospel of jesus christ not my political point of view but by knowing that jesus christ is the only way the truth and the life hallelujah to the lamb of god i'll shout myself through you can be quiet it will drive us to pray peter didn't say be alert and sober so that you will know the ins and outs of our times he said so that you would what say it out loud with me pray and we have empty prayer meetings we have empty prayer days yeah we might say now i lay me down to sleep i pray the lord my soul to keep blah blah blah blah god's great god is good but when we pray lord help us live in light of your return number two the principle of living in light of his return it affects how we love let's keep reading above all read it with me love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of sin when we live in light of his coming he came our lives have been changed but when we live in light of his imminent return it changed and affects how we love this verse is tough for me and for others in this room and i can see how the principle of this verse can be so abused and misused because there are times when love will need to expose sin and we'll need to bring things to light and i can see how a husband who's beating on his wife can say no love covers the multitude of sin i can see how it can be completely skewed i can see how a drug addict who's caught who needs help can say but love covers a multitude of sin but in the body of christ in the church of jesus christ the normal operating mode of every believer is to love and it covers a multitude of sin peter is saying to the church in view of christ's return love one another deeply don't be the one who is always offended and don't be the one who's always causing division and strife don't be that one who is always bickering and backbiting and fighting and fussing love covers but you don't know what he said you don't know what he did you don't know what she did you don't know i don't want to know that's true but in light of his return have and desire a pure deep love for one another because love covers a multitude of sin let's read a couple verses and we gotta uh conclude conclude here real fast but romans chapter 16 verse 17 and 18 says i urge you brothers and sisters watch out for those who cause division and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned keep away from them for each for such person is not serving our lord christ but their own appetites let's keep reading titus chapter three verse nine and seven but avoid foolish disputes genealogies contentions striving about the law i believe this way no we should believe that we i should do this no this is what god's saying this is for there i'm profitable and useless reject a divisive man or a woman the first and second at the first and second admonition knowing that such a person is warped and boy i didn't say that does oh man warped and sinning being self-condemned i love what this theologian said i'm going to ask pastor ernie to come and we're going to conclude in a moment he said where love abounds in the fellowship of christians listen very carefully to what i'm reading okay when love abounds in a fellowship of christians small many small fences and even some large ones are readily overlooked and forgotten but where love is lacking every word is viewed with suspicion oh i've witnessed that why action every word is viewed with suspicion every action is liable to misunderstanding and conflicts abound to satan's uh perverse delight let's keep reading offer hospitality to one another without grumbling because i can promise you if you're hospitable there's going to be someone that you're hospitable to is going to cause you to crumble do it without grumbling do it without grumbling each of you should use whatever gifts you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of god's grace in this various forms if anyone speaks they should do so as one who speaks the very words of god if anyone serves they should do so with the strength god provides so that in all things god may be praised to jesus christ through him be glory and the power forever and ever amen first principle in in kids ministry we need worship team members whatever god has blessed you with maybe you're an intercessor you're you just pray we need prayer warriors it affects your service notice what peter is saying to the church yes you're going through hard times yes you might be feeling discouraged right now but in light of his return the end of all things are near serve the church serve the body of christ make every effort to function in the body of christ don't just be on the bleachers telling how the game should be played get involved there's work to be done and only you can do what only you can do so the question comes now how do we apply what we've just read because we're not just information or transformation people how do i practically apply what we just studied what we just read now there's some that the first thing you need to do you need to give your life to jesus and and surrender your life to the lord i would love to pray with you today if that's you and you're here or if you're with us virtually get in touch with us i would love to lead you to the cross and introduce you to jesus but then there are those here today that you've allowed yourself to get ensnared with the things of the past you might say i did not have a past but you you're alert to or you're drawn toward loose living backslidden condition you know exactly what i mean you've allowed compromise and all of a sudden that compromise become an addiction that addiction is now a stronghold in your life or you've allowed that relationship to go a little too far you thought you were strong enough [Music] or you've watched a little too much of that on the internet but now you just cannot shut it off but oh you desire to live for jesus is gonna hurt your flesh you gotta cut it off be willing to sacrifice whatever it is it's easier to compromise and go with the flow but today you're being called by the holy spirit to a fresh consecration and in view of his imminent return today there's some of you that you need to check your love factor you need to check your meter and say do i love deeply or is it so surface that one wrong move and i got them written off i'm glad god don't work with me like that you may have gotten complacent and cold and you're not praying like you used to maybe you need to come on a wednesday night if you can if your schedule permits and just spend that time with other people to pray it helps [Music] so wherever you find yourself today i pray that we would apply the word of god i just want us to sing this chorus as our desire christ be magnified we sang it last
