Labadee, Haiti Cruise Walkaround Tour

[Music] labadie is royal caribbean's private destination in haiti where you can sit back and have an amazing beach day and today we've got a full tour of lobardy so you can get a sense of what to expect when you get there up next [Music] hey everyone it's matt from royal caribbean blog dot com lobbied is royal caribbean's original private destination and we wanted to give you a full look at what labadie looks like because of course it is a little slice of heaven to enjoy while you're on a cruise labity is located on the northwest part of haiti and it's actually not an island oftentimes people say oh it's real good it's private island but it's actually not an island it's a peninsula but i digress to get on the island it's pretty easy your ship will dock at the pier and you're on our way and we'll start off with buccaneer bay which is where you're going to be arriving at once you walk off the pier this is the arrivals plaza for labadee where you can pretty much go anywhere else and in labadee you're going to find a couple different options but primarily we're talking about a beach day if you've seen our video with perfect day coco key which offers so many different things to do like a water park and a pool and whatnot well lavatee doesn't have that but what labity does have is plenty of places to go and have a wonderful beach day at its heart a day at la biddie is about enjoying fun in the sun as they say and lavadee has plenty of that and it's stunning actually when you consider that not only you have beautiful beaches and clear blue waters but you also have the wonderful scenery around you to enjoy now as you get to buccaneers bay there are also some opportunities to get some equipment and maybe some last minute items you might need for later on in your day like snorkeling equipment rash guard sunscreen and whatnot it's probably a good idea to pack those beforehand but you never know there's also lockers that you can use in lobbied in case you want to store some of your belongings especially if you're going on an excursion maybe a zip line or something like that where you don't want to carry all those things around but once you get to the buccaneer bay area there's plenty of different options to choose from different beaches really is what you're going to be choosing from but before we get to the beaches let's take a little walk around because there are some great walking trails in labadee where you can go and kind of get a sense of what's around you and it's not only a beautiful way to see all the scenery around you it's a good way to get the lay of the land if you will and these walking trails are open to anybody at any time and it's also a great spot to get a photo of your ship in fact the spot we're at right now is absolutely stunning i think it's one of the best spots to get a selfie or just photo of your ship because it's just a perfect view lobbity has a lot of history too it's actually named after a frenchman named marquis de la badi which royal caribbean decided to change to just be lava d so that way it's a little bit easier to pronounce but it's really stunning views and labadee is well nowadays we'd call it a throwback it really wasn't intended to be that way but what i mean by that is you know in this day and age of perfect days and all these amazing things to do lobbity is still very much kind of just a chill and relax you're going to find the craft pavilion also in here in lava d and this is an area to kind of just do your own thing a little bit there's also different excursions that you can do here i believe there is a paint and sip type excursion you can book as well but when you're talking about these walking trails you're really talking about exploring the natural beauty of labadee and there's different things you can see here it's great for photos you want a great selfie instagram spot this might be one of the better places to go to all right let's head back to the main arrivals area because more than likely when you walk off the ship you're going to want to go do a beach day right you're going to go spend some time at the beach and relax and there's plenty of them including also things to eat and do at labadee at its heart you're talking about really i think a beach day a lot of people say what should i do plan on a beach day plan on you know just kind of chilling out and relaxing here at dragons plaza you can pick up a tram take you around lapid keeping in mind by the way that it's pretty easy to walk around on your own but for some folks it may be easier to take a tram especially during the warmer months of the year when taking about 15 steps and you start sweating profusely maybe that's just me but there's plenty to go around if you need to take the tram you're also going to find the zipline which is a very popular excursion to do in labadie the dragon's breath zip line runs really the course of labadee it goes from one end to the other and it promises well and it delivers on amazing views you're gonna start off with a practice run with the zipline so this is a very short one just to kind of get the idea of how it works the equipment and what to do at the end of it pretty simple stuff but once you graduate from there you're going to be boarding a truck take you up to the top of the mountain to do the zip line there are two types of zip lines in lobbity depending on the weather conditions you may or may not have access to both one is the standard zip line configuration in which you kind of sit back and go down the other one is more of the superman pose there's a different word for it but essentially when you're going belly down and you get to put your arms out but really it's all about the view it's a very long zipline and you get some amazing views going down whether you're going to be checking out the views below you to the side of you around you just keep your eyes open because it is a really really fun ride and it's one of the best ways to get some of the best views of labadee the most popular beach i think is adrenaline beach located on the north side of labadie adrenaline beach is a long running beach that essentially offers you well a beach day experience you know adrenaline beach the nice thing about it is you're getting a little more waves here if you're looking for more i don't say motion in the ocean but you certainly want to have a little more to the sea conditions than i think adrenaline beach is for you you will also find adrenaline beach generally speaking a little rockier than other areas of lobadi in general labadee is a kind of a rocky beach when you're going in the water whether you're an adrenaline beach or any of the other beaches you're going to this is not necessarily just go wherever you please look below you because there can be a little bit of rocks but it's a very enjoyable day and the nice thing about adrenaline beach is there's lots of seating lots of different ways you can kind of do your beach day whether you want to go and grab a chair sit on the sand or maybe some of the upgraded options that we'll see in just a little bit but the beach chairs and umbrellas are complimentary for your use during your visit to lobby and when i go to labadee what i really look for is just a way to kind of sit back and chill out and put your sunglasses on read a book or whatnot but there's lots of seating that you can find in liberty and there's also these clam shell loungers these do cost extra uh these can be purchased via the royal green website before your cruise and these clamshell loungers give you as you can see of course lounge chairs to enjoy and protection and shade from the sun the nice thing about these are that they're very inexpensive and offers you a way to have a little more natural shade more than an umbrella can provide to you but not as expensive as say a beach bed or a cabana which we'll see later on they're also beach mats what's up guys that you can rent for the day the nice thing about the beach mats are you can just take them out in the water sit back and you know see where the tide takes you i also love the hammocks that you'll find these hammocks are on a first come first serve basis you're also going to find beach chairs around labadee to enjoy and you know if you really want to get one i would advise you to get off the ship earlier than most other people so that way you can get one but you know as the afternoon kind of wanes on you may find some opportunities to enjoy them as other people get up next up is the kids in sports area of lobbity and this is where you want to go if you want a little more activity to your day these are complimentary as well you're going to find well a volleyball court and there's a volleyball that you can request and be able to use for a lot of the kids i think the younger children there is a splash area which can be a fun way to spend the day and also for the kids who maybe don't like the ocean or prefer not the ocean the nice thing about the splash area is it just provides them kind of you know buckets and geysers and things to shoot water in ways for them to cool down without being in the ocean and it's a nice supervised area it's not as ornate as say splash away bays you'll find maybe on your cruise ship or a perfect day coco key but let me tell you something the kids are definitely going to get wet as i mentioned they're seeding around this as well and the nice thing about going or all around labadee's you don't go too far to find either a bar or comfortable seating all right we're all the way now on the northeast side of adrenaline beach and again more seating here and the nice thing about being on the northeast side here is not only do you have different views a little bit and also underneath the zip line which is great for people watching as they go down the zip line but also you're close to some other amenities so i think on the western end of adrenaline beach there's a little less things going on but the eastern end has a little more activities more things to see and do and the beach is a little bit wider also on this portion of adrenaline beach now i hope you never have to go to this area but the first aid station fort lobby is located right here on adrenaline beach on the northeast side so if you ever have an issue you know stub your toe scratch something like that this is the place to go you're also going to find the floating bar and swings in the water here on adrenaline beach so yes just like perfect day coco key lavatee has a floating bar as well and you just swim out to it it's not usually too bad of a swim mostly it's waiting and then maybe at the very end you actually have to dive in and swim to the floating bar you're also going to find the schooner bar here on lava d and this is what i love about this is the adirondack chairs you get your lava doozy which is the official drink of lava d and then sit back on one of these wonderful wooden adirondack chairs and enjoy your drink with the view also even during the hottest times of the year it's usually a little cooler here because there's a lot of shade and you get a little more of a breeze so it's one of my favorite places to go if you're looking to cool down a little bit now earlier we saw the clamshell loungers here we have the beach beds the beach beds are a little more of an upgraded add-on that you can purchase again you want to go through the real green website to purchase it before your cruise ideally and the beach beds are well a bed on the beach the nice thing about them is it's a lot more comfortable you can actually lay down flat and in addition to that you're also going to get some bottled water that comes with your stay and you also have a little those privacy screens that can be either extended or contracted right now you can see most of them are pretty much you know wrapped up but the beach beds do offer a relaxing place and you know cheaper than a cabana and it's a good price point for a lot of folks they find the beach best be a pretty good value for what you get you're also going to find some basketball courts on this end and really if you go all the way to this end of la badi if you see other people around you it's going to be kind of a surprise because most people do not go all the way out here but there is a basketball court you can play some games on here in labadee and there's also a bocce ball court my father-in-law would be absolutely thrilled to know i'm not sure this is a regulation court usually it's on grass but you can play a wonderful game of bocce ball there now let's talk about something else you can do at lobby which is the dragon's tail coaster this is an alpine coaster that takes you up on the same mountain that the zip line goes down to but it's an alpine coaster so basically you board these cars and a track brings you up to the top and then you basically just ride the brake down so there's no other hills other than the main hill and using the force of gravity it brings you all the way down it's a lot of fun and you can either purchase a one ride pass or an all-day pass again passes for these should be purchased before your cruise via the cruise planner website usually you can still purchase passes for the alpine coaster on lobbied itself but your best bet is to purchase it before the cruise because you'll probably save money and it's a fun ride you get to ride the brake down as much or as little as you like i'll be honest with you all when i did this i wrote the breakdown more than i thought i would it's a pretty fast ride down but a lot of folks who've done this many many times will tell you after a ride or two it's really more a question if you can go down without using your brakes at all but that's a really cool activity something fun to do it's easy it's good for all ages and the nice thing about having the ability to control the braking mechanism is you can make it as thrilling or not thrilling as you see fit all right let's head to town square and town square is one of the many areas in labadie where you can enjoy lunch lunch is included with your cruise fair when you come to labadie and this is your traditional barbecue beach day food extravaganza you're gonna have hot dogs you're gonna have burgers you're going to have salads you're going to have desserts you're also going to find live music a lot but it's something else that really is also known for is live music especially on cruise ships but also in liberty you're going to find reggae bands and various live musical acts that you can either hear as you walk by stop by to enjoy it whichever one you'd like to do but i do love that world cup and invests in the local musicians who come here and perform for you throughout the day there's also a hair braiding station to go to if you'd like to do that for your kids or the adults i suppose i shouldn't say it's just children and also the artisans market is a place to go if you want to pick up some local souvenirs these are souvenirs that not only commemorate your visit to lobbied but also local haitian culture so there's two areas to the market versus the arts's market which is more like a shop the prices are listed they're pretty much the prices you're gonna pay and this is more of a browse and you know pick up things basically almost like any kind of souvenir store you might find in most islands that you visit and here the art the crafts that you're gonna find are a little more ornate if you will but the artisans village is more of a flea market meets shuuk meets i don't know what but it's an opportunity to not only see lots of crafts but also but you should expect to haggle a little bit for the prices of the items that are here now the vendors are going to be very friendly they're definitely going to want to get your attention there a simple no thank you is all you need to say if you're not interested in buying anything but it is nice to kind of walk through this area and see what's available there's a lot of different artwork and crafts and souvenirs you might want to pick up and bring home all right let's head to the south side of lobby starting off with columbus cove columbus cove is the most remote beach in lobadi you usually find the least amount of people here but i might say this would be one of the best beach options for a lot of folks who want to have a little less crowded area but also more importantly i think it's also you're going to find generally speaking some of the best sand here in la body so that way when you walk into the water it's a little less rocky not only that compared to adrenaline beach i'm sure you can see here that the water is a lot more calm so it might be good for young swimmers or anybody who just wants a nice you know easy going ocean conditions there's plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas in columbus cove also pro tip back on the pier you may find a ferry that can actually take you to columbus cove it's a direct express ferry that we can save a little bit of walking because the walk from the arrivals plaza buccaneers bay over to here could be you know something like 10 minutes or so so taking the tram or the direct ferry service can save you a little bit of time nice thing about columbus cove is they also have their own dining area where you can pick up some of the food that we talked about earlier burgers hot dogs the food at all the dining areas in lobby is pretty much all the same menu burgers hot dogs salads some desserts fruit and whatnot so don't feel compelled to go around and see what the menu is at the various other dining locations it's pretty much all the same food and it's a beach day barbecue just enough food to keep you going throughout the day you could of course go back on the ship and eat or some people will go back on board to the windjammer and enjoy lunch over there it's up to you you know it's kind of a hike to get back up there and back up to the ship and then back out to labadie again but you could do that as well but either way the food is complimentary at labadee now in addition to that you're gonna find plenty of bars we talked about that a little bit but also i should mention if you have a royal caribbean drink package well your drink package does work at labadee as well the drink package benefits extend to all the bars and waiters that are on lobbity so that's totally fine to be able to use that and get more advantage more value of your drink package i do love these in ocean loungers and the swings and the hammocks something you're only going to find here at columbus cove so if you're wondering which beach to go to it might make sense to go all the way to columbus cove because they have a really nice beach setup you're also going to find for an additional cost the arawak aqua park this aqua park is basically one of these inflatable beach options that you may see some other ports you'll be visiting on your cruise but there are trampolines and pyramids and ways to climb and then fall and or jump back into the ocean there's an additional cost to it in addition you're also going to find the jet ski rentals here as well as the kayak rentals all these cost extra and yes there is a water slide that's in addition to the water park and the water slide has an all-day pass or a one slide pass all this costs extra and all that you can purchase before your cruise next up is nelly's beach nellie's beach is another beach area open to the public here in lobadi i like nellie's beach i usually end up here because for a couple of reasons number one it's in a good location number two it's not as far as columbus cove and number three has one of my favorite add-on amenities for any date labadee which are the cabanas i am a sucker for cabanas at la biddie they have three types there are beach front beach cabanas and over the water cabanas the over the water commanders the ones you're seeing here which is literally over the water sometimes on a mountain and you get to look out on there it's really beautiful there are just steps to bring you back into the ocean so this is not bad for adults if you have younger children i don't know that the over the water cabanas are great for you instead i'd recommend the beach cabanas or the beach front cabanas the beach commander step back on the beach the beach front commanders are literally by the water but what i love about the cabanas why i get them almost every time i come to labadie is i love the shade it provides i love having a home base of operations and of course the service there's going to be an attendant who comes to you and brings you drinks they won't bring you food here but they can bring you drinks and anything else you might need throughout your day as we mentioned earlier there are ruins around lobadi and this is going back to the history of the peninsula so as you walk around keep an eye out for some of these ruins nellie's beach has its own bar areas feel like you got your drink your drink package works here or you can pay for drinks a la carte if you don't have a drink package next up is another walking trail this is trail number two on the southeast side of labadee and the cool thing about this trail is actually takes you from nellie's beach to columbus cove into the artisan's market so first of all it's a nice little walk it's also a shortcut to get you between the two areas otherwise you have to cut back through the main trail if you will the nice thing about this trail is you're gonna find a lot of dense vegetation so it almost feels like you're walking through you know really a forest and as you exit the trail you'll be back in the artisan market by the way something else about the artisan market in the arts and village is you want to bring cash with you walking trail number three is another nature trail you can take that again we'll take you through the areas of the southeast part of labadee and then of course we have barefoot beach club the barefoot beach club is reserved for sweet guests as well as pinnacle guests so if you're staying in a suite on your royal caribbean ship this beach area is exclusively for you this is something you don't find in coco key but an exclusive area just for sweet guests there are cabanas that you can rent as well the cabanas do cost extra but again these cabanas are only available to people who are in a suite who want to pay for them the nice thing about barefoot beach club is it's your own little area if you're staying in a suite while roller court is giving you a whole area to kind of sit back and relax and enjoy this little private enclave in labadee and as the name implies barefoot beach is well a really good beach to walk around with without your shoes on it's a beautiful area it's close to the ship so you're getting convenience and you're getting an exclusive area which for a lot of folks is a nice thing to have in the middle of lobadi you're going to find this park area it's a more open green space and the nice thing about lobadi because it's not built up very much is that real crippling really designed this to be an area that kind of make your own adventure and kind of just chill out and relax for some people they want to go to the beach but if you just want to get off in lava day and kind of walk around a little bit this might be a really nice area to relax in and enjoy you're also going to find walking trail number four which takes you through the center of labadie down to the southwest area and again make sure you bring your camera for these walking trails if you're gonna do the walking trails in general i recommend doing them in the morning because as the day passes and the afternoon temperatures set in it can get pretty warm so it's a good idea to do this in the morning and then head to the beach to relax and cool off well there you have it our look at lavity i love labadee because it's a relaxing beach day at its heart whether you choose to get a cabana a beach lounge or just pull up a chair by the beach you know what it's hard to go wrong with any of those things and it's just a relaxing day that's what it's all about when it comes to lobbies you're planning your day plan on a beach
