[Music] logo good morning and welcome to the land Tamra Stream I'm a little bit past time sorry about that I suppose start at 10:00 and I got to playing with the settings here in OBS which always takes a little time anyway we are here we're ready for the lab the home lab software showdown and there will be blood folks as I said in my tweet anyway it's going to be an earnest effort to evaluate viral versus even G vs. gns3 in a very limited scenario this is not a an official attempt to do performance testing like using performance testing software this is going to be a very arbitrary kind of test it's going to be not arbitrary it's going to be a very specific test and a very specific set of circumstances that suit me so there's a disclaimer and I'm gonna have other disclaimers but let me pull up first like we always do here on the Lanterman screen I'm gonna pull up the agenda both the chat window and if anybody wants to shout out say hello on this fine Saturday morning you're welcome to do so this is our agenda for today's at least this morning's vlog and stream and then here's the chat window if anybody wants to say hello shout out on Twitch feel free to do so let's check and make sure that the yeah night BOTS working so that's good I found a really cool bot on another discord channel folks this morning or yesterday that it's a two trivia BOTS which is really cool it's going to discord and then you get type trivia and it'll shoot you CCENT really level questions but some are good and some fun to know exactly how to respond so someone were Trixie I hope to bring that I want to find out where that bot came from and trying to bring it to the land Tamara discord channel because it's really cool I'm learning a lot about this chord this week because I've joined several other let me show you guys so this is as maybe you know I have kind of redone the server channels on discord we got chatty chatty hat laughing twitch related voice channels text uh an orchestra I bought testing so then I joined several other discord servers this week other people that are discovered this discord channel have reached out to me and presented their discord channel and I've learned a lot of stuff it's really cool I really like a discord I've said this before slack versus Park versus you know it's always versus here I don't know why versus uh this court this court is winning me over hands down over and over again so you know I need to check one more thing here on the microphone everything looks right make sure it's use it sometimes it will not use the correct mic using Yeti good deal anyway so 57 days ago and we're doing a lab software showdown don't have a lot of time to do this but I'm taking the time to do it anyway I'm gonna explain why but first another vlog topic as I was studying yesterday and the day before I discovered something in Safari Safari Books online that I thought was just epic and this may be become a principal resource for me as I study the written and the lab really but especially in particular for the written so I'm going to pull up the official certification guide for the CCI routes which and that's just a quick vlog topic folks you know I do this daily vlog this is a stream so you know I know people may be coming to check out the performance testing and that is coming but let me point out and that is coming but again this is a vlog so this is just random stuff guys this is the book here I'm not sure I think this is the one I've been using CCI rather switching v5 official circuit volume 1 and 2 meter palak Norbert car Karen's window Odom and then volume 2 also has Narvik okarians so all you all you need to know for this is Narvik right so I found something that's got I've been I've been using this a lot for the written and may if I do continue reading it took me to where I was before so there is a show that's on screen but I found a section called memory builders and this is really cool I'm just going to give you a glimpse here if I can find it this is not the ESF ari is not the easiest to navigate in my opinion prior to flexion on me more anything else but I think it may be yes key table so this is really cool guys they have these appendices which I do not know about because again I'm studying for the written I'm starting with the blueprint using some of the links from the Necker cube and then working my way from there I didn't come here during the one you know inspired me really to come and say hey just start with a CC ie official certification guide I'd not heard really good things about them in the past and I have purchased official I purchased the CCMP route officials study guide and it was not a good one in my opinion hey that's just me but so I had never really sought this out probably a mistake on my part because in here this this is cool I just discovered this IP addressing practice this key tables for CCI study is awesome so they take you through some of the technology is kind of an answer it's kind of a little mini exam and you have to give and fill in these key tables and then you have to get you can go back and there's the answer God which is awesome I've what I've looked at so far is incredible and there's a lot I was then able to fill in like I thought I could so I mean this is this is epic stuff good knowledge so I'm probably going to be reviewing more of that as the countdown continues to the CCIE written especially in the weak areas but I'm really I've really been leaning heavily on this book and it is great it is excellent for the written preparation I highly recommend it in Safari and I should link it here right let me go ahead and do that folks case your will go to Safari online and then I can put the link here let's go back to the let's just go to the history can I do that this the interface is not so intuitive well here's the history I know it seems like you need to spend a little time learning the interface at safari which to me is kind of its purpose all right here is the book so this should be the main link and that's what I'm going to put here so we're going to put this other me chunks we've got several more this Saturday morning great meat chunks this morning I'm gonna go over those CCIE official roughs which official sir guy on Safari yeah we're just gonna put it in there so and I'll update it on the twitch description for this video later but memory builders pages awesome awesome awesome stuff I'm going to be leaning on that before we get into the labbing I'm gonna do these meat chunks here this one I just put there this one folks is really cool I don't know how much I'm gonna use it yet I'm sure I'm gonna use it quite a bit but Necker cube who continues to kick butt in the community on what he shares shared this mind map for CCIE and CCI Missy CMP routing and switching this thing is beautiful guys I don't know if you remember the magic I remember the magic eye pictures that you could kind of look into and they'd hypnotize you and get lost in them sort of that's what this thing did to me at first so it's it's beautiful but behind the beauty is a purpose this is sort of a review guide even getting down into some configurations and he's provided it's it's big right so it's really big you can navigate it here in on the blog and look you got these links here I think yeah I'm gonna really try to do that I downloaded I have an older version of mind my node Pro turns out really older version of 1.7.5 so you can download the mind node file version he actually provided several versions of the file that she can use which he always does so you got my note mine map PDF outline PDF markdown OPML free mine I mean one of the format's do you need and of course he has this 3100 cc ID flash card deck and the blueprint documentation reference guide which I've been utilizing heavily but this is just another kind of mind map to get your head around some technologies if you're struggling or need some help and kind of categorizing these I did download the new mind node Trotta version there's a trial of the latest version which is let's my note 5 yeah it's 39.95 I think I may purchase this I have purchased this product in the past I really like it I use it when I'm brainstorming and even sometimes initial diagramming and it's a great great product my note 5 0.8 and then they have you can purchase ya 39.99 I may purchase it in fact now I'm thinking about it if I decide not to use viral I may take some of that money and purchase my node we'll see let's see how and if that's not how much I use this but anyway there's a link great stuff and then just another caller yesterday I had a little time to play in the background some network collective episodes and they're doing these network collective briefs in fact let me pull it up network collective as you know they are principally on Vimeo now but short takes yes so the doing these short takes which is great I think because they're still very rehearsed it's still you know it's still a good distance from actual streaming which you know who knows maybe one day they'll do that that would be really cool I think they sort of stream I guess you consider these podcasts somewhat rehearsed the short takes are very rehearsed but they're good they have good info I really want I have enough time had time to read this one yet or listen to this one but this one was good I really like Yvonne scharff's she has some great common sense like that oftentimes we overlook or don't enumerate well or don't think about especially as engineers she's a she's a wise engineer I put it that way and I enjoy listening to her input and her thoughts on some of these subjects and she often looks to me at she does a good job I think of looking at the human element and emotional elements sometimes in in networking topics so I I think she's doing great work and just say a little bit about Yvonne never met her in person hoping me don't wanted to go live or something like that but great great content and there's some very common-sense things about sales engineers here the good reminders and a very good perspective on that I highly recommend so that's the meat chunks guys and gals now returning to talk about this issue of the performance testing so let's close this down agenda and let's pull up the some documents I have available to go along with this testing you know somewhat of a document or write but let me talk first about where or why I'm doing this first of all I would have loved if someone had done this for me a number of years ago I have been using viral for three years I've been using gns3 or off and on for probably six years and I have never used the even G until now so again this is not meant to be a completely unbiased or scientific I guess that's best work it's not intended to be a scientific performance test or analysis it is meant to be beneficial to me and I think it will be beneficial to some of you out there especially if you are beginning your journey or if you are in the midst of your journey and you're maybe you're having some second thoughts about the software that you're using here's a couple reason list these out okay why why this this analysis a we have a and I can't see the people who said live but thank you very much for the support it follows appreciate that I want to close this court to but this is why this analysis may benefit or who this test may help so one if you're having issues with your current Oh lab software if you're starting out and three need a backup so this is important to thank for everyone no matter how long you have been labbing we all you know if you've been laughing any amount of time you're gonna have your go-to set up right and again that's why I'm saying this you may not care about this test but if you have your primary set up and like me if you've ever done a an upgrade to your software upgrades inevitably come out viral for example during my three years with virals so far I think I've upgraded it or reinstalled it several times there have been at least I think four or five now viral is not prolific in there up upgrades but I've upgraded maybe four times so a couple those have gone south and in order to not sort of interrupt my aggressive laughing schedule I needed a backup and did not really have one so I think it's good now of course you can always build the backup you can always build a backup lab when you need to right it's not extremely difficult it takes time I think it's good to always have a backup ready to go and so for that reason if you don't have a backup system set up already this may be a good video or stream for you to help figure out okay what should my backup be right because especially and I thought this was funny when gns3 I think it was recently did an upgrade they were like okay we have this upgrade here's why you should not upgrade if you are booked for an exam very soon or if you have an exam coming up and you don't have a lot of time do not do this upgrade that's just common that's just common sense right but that does draw the point that it is good to have a running back up another thing and another thing you need a backup for is not just if you have a crash or if you do an upgrade and your primary system is down sometimes you want to backup for comparison so let's see do you need a backup in case of in case your software blows up the other is do you need an alternate testing system so a backup in that sense is and I've run in this many times and I know you have run into it if you've been laughing any amount of time if you are doing a lab and something is not working the way you think it should be what do you do most of you like me want to test it in another system right so that may be a good reason to have actually three systems up and running if you have viral for example already then you could have even G an G and s3 ready to go so that way it can eliminate that you know that issue of and am i doing this lab right is the is my configuration wrong or is this a bug in viral / genus 3 / even G well that's one way you can sort of vet it out right the other is the other reason this video may be helpful to you is do you need to build one of these systems to lab with others so that is one of the main reasons that I started to look at even G for example I had not really considered it seriously before but a number of people I know use it and I've been interacting with him on discord and on YouTube etcetera and they're like hey do you want to try out this lab router gods is well known for that great participation there about hey guys have built this lab would you like to try it out in even G if you have even G ready to go then you can work on that lab with someone so bottom line is um there is a good argument I would say to have a running setup of Eve and GE and gns3 because they're free right there's no reason why you shouldn't you know you can't have this up and running so anyway those are my arguments the the other main reason why this test helps me besides what I've already mentioned is that viral as expired so viral of course is a subscription and you have to renew once a year that's also true with some of these other solutions and let me pull that up so this is a base comparison chart guys it's not pretty but I will pretty this up and release it at some point for the community but let's just compare each one in terms of the the technologies themselves and this this is not exhaustive list it is not intended to be exhaustive these are just a lot of sucia solutions that i've considered right there is packet right there is there are some other a lot of different rack rental solutions out there I say a lot there are quite a few there Cisco expert level training I near Akron all the genus 3 even G and viral but let's just kind of block these off for the moment I'm gonna hide these well I will in a moment but are there free versions of the software genus three and even G of course there are right these are all paid so if tight budget is one of your main considerations well there you have it your that's gonna help you know what you need right away now not saying that cheapest is best by no means am I saying that and I don't believe in that as principal that's why I've been paying for viral for three years right is there a paid version these are free versions is it a paid version without support yes viral personal addition which is what just expired on me it's $200 a year before do any discounts someone kindly offered on YouTube a discount code in case I need it so I appreciate that I may take you up on that is there a paid version with support now I don't know I think this is one area where genus 3 is different and support is important guys I will say support is important because again you're not labbing to evaluate lab software lab software is a tool as a means to an end ok unless you weren't for genus 3 or even G or your developer or you know you know so your lab software is to get you labbing right time is money and time is so critical and for anyone and everyone knows that who's preparing for C CIE lab right and any ACCC Cisco exam any exam is timed timing is money timing is very important so support is important I think though that there's such good community support or a lot of these products like gns3 even G there's really good community support out out there or most basic labbing configurations you can get what you need for free you don't need to purchase support now if you are considering software if we're going beyond the scope of preparing for certifications so let's say we're going to the scope of using it for proof of concepts you know for actual cent business scenarios or if you are using other you know other sorts of cases where you need to use these labbing software to you know for blogging and configuring unusual scenarios things like that out of the norm then maybe you want support and even G certainly has and I know number of people who have purchased even G's I think it's called an Enterprise Edition I don't remember exactly or pro but yes they have a paid version with support and of course viral does I don't know what the cost of that is I hear it's really high to purchase Cisco modeling labs which is basically the viral for unlimited nodes and it comes with a course support you have to go through your Cisco account manager sisqó now Cisco expert level training what used to be called Cisco 360 it is a paid version with support right so they have support and that is one big advantage to Cisco expert level training same with ine rack rentals or any other rack Reynolds generally that comes with support right now Cisco has is speaking of them Cisco expert level training is pay-as-you-go right support is included I guess that's why I have that here right as I understand it's about two dollars an hour and I know people who swear by this and I want to say is uses is same as actual lab so I have to give that's it so expert level training annex there because yes basically you are taking the using the same infrastructure that is part of this the actual lab so that is one big plus that's why people love this whereby this I say that's great go for it you know if if that's worth that cost to you then go for it I near Akron all I do not know if they have pay-as-you-go I do have I do own so sale and tamer owns I have this this I did have this have rack rental tokens right I have not used this yet maybe that will be a future episode this for me is gonna be for big laps so again just a brief comment on that you have you know intended as a home lab yes these are definitely tended as a home lab right and you have certain number of labs in Ani workbook for example that you're gonna do on your home lab software then you have another tier the mock labs for example lining workbook mock labs that you want to do in a larger environment I don't have the compute resources to do this in a home lab so I will be using the I near Akron all right anyway those are the base cost comparisons and overall overview of the products most you know about all this by the way there is a star here because most most products have a cloud version or a way to run this in the cloud so you can do your home lab in the cloud absolutely there are a lot of advantages to that if you travel a lot if you don't have the hardware that you think that you wish that you had or needed so you can definitely for example get and I say most I know that viral Cisco expert level training habit let's say can hosted versions you can't well let me say this you can host anything pretty much in the cloud now right so if you don't have the compute at home that is always an option and I know people who have done it just for accessibility mobility and because they wanted to run on bigger Hardware okay so anyway that is a comparison chart let's move on to the test procedure which I'm just now drafting what I'm going to do here is I'm going to close all in s-sarah software running right now I am running OBS I do have some limitations so I am streaming be streaming running OBS that's not a big hit that is a big hit on network utilization it is not a big hit on CPU all right I will be running running the Activity Monitor actually I will do this at the end but what I'm gonna do is basically start a timer what aboot the server and then I'm going to load a topology load a topology and it's the same topology on all servers so what that means is that we are running the same images the same number of nodes and the same startup configurations okay the timer ends when last last router as booted and is no longer sending console messages okay this is gonna be our timing okay then we were also going to evaluate several criteria it is going to be human base guys it's not going to be numbers base right and this is the performance testing here so I'm gonna use is let's left sword that sorry left I knees EW GRP basic routing all right I started out not using a routing protocol but I thought it's not really a good evaluation criteria right so we're gonna do geography basic router we're gonna be doing that running that one and we're gonna test today hardware the hardware I'm using you guys see on my channel folks so if you go to youtube or twitch I can go to about actually is go to channel let's just go to the channel here like how to navigate you so if you go to about hey you've got a new follower thank you very much so this is a hardware right and it's listed down below to an inch which so you've got I'm running an iMac this is the server and it's not this is not blazing speed guys this is not blazing speed 21.5 inch late 2013 mac OS tints hi Sierra that's I think that's wrong I think I'm just running Sierra I have not upgraded hi Sierra because yeah I'm just running Sierra so 16 Giga ram into Irish Pro and I have a 2.7 gigahertz intel core i5 not the best processor guys so that's why I take this with a grain of salt now we are gonna be course everything will be running from this same machine so the software this is old - I need to fix that vara 1.5 these are the versions one time 5.14 five this is the latest version of viral there's the latest version of all these okay I've upgraded all these to the to the motor recent stable versions gns3 to 2.1 F or even gt2 I sort of 386 Community Edition and with genus 3 we are running the genus 3 vm ok virtual Nick's I don't know I don't think this makes a difference for what we're doing but IV I'm using the minimum number of Nick's that I know or that I think I need to connect to my system I know Don CPUs I had configured this too now let's pull up let's go ahead and pull up our be more fusion a note on this guy's gal so what I did on this they are all running three processor cores and twelve gig of ram notice this here the virtual machine is configured use to many of the processor cores available on your Mac this may cause slow performance of your Mac in the virtual machine before I was running to processor cores but during this lat after this last upgrade of viral 5.1 I was unable to launch topologies with only two processor cores that kind of bummed me out that's one reason that I started looking around because when I switched to viral one dot viral 1.5 that one four five the system was running slower there's no other way to put it and I started thinking man I can and you'll see you will see because this is the minimum amount of resource I could give it to get it to actually boot the topology 3 processor cores I also had to bump up the ram considerably to get this topology to run so yes normally in a 4 processor machine you wouldn't optimally run give it to processor course and not over subscribe but that's what we're doing and you know this all these software versions are CPU intensive you're gonna see you're gonna see a CPU hog message comes up come up that means that it's waiting on the CPU so you're gonna see that on all three but they all three have the same so they're all three thinking Ram our 12 gig of ram and three processor course even G and genus three loaded the topology with two so there you go but I want to make these equal right and we're loading 10v iOS I should say I was we routers here I was getting used to using the V in front right but it's iOS V l2 a note on this so are these the fastest images to use to build this I need a jar P basic around topology no most likely not but this is what I plan to use in the lab right by the way the I&E topology you can always find again if you go to youtube same on Twitch on my on the about page is a link to the ID diagram a viral follow us on github so these are publicly available grisham a congressionally made these available to anyone these are the files were using for the basic ERP routing and these are viral files right that is one big advantage and I want to note this here later interoperability let me see if I can spell us in roughly interoperability with a tiny workbook these are gonna be my rankings down here and I want to tell you about right now is number one on that so iOS VLT switches we have four and we're going to test followed you low time at the end of the load we're gonna check CPU and memory utilization it's that simple guys alright so let's get started test procedure close all running software let me just check on that so we can quit like on Google Drive that kind of stuff when drive on this thing stuff I'm even gonna turn Wi-Fi off we don't need Wi-Fi running right now what else close my twitch dashboard and we're gonna get this timer going I set up this time our window folks real quick so we're gonna a window here you browser source shoot great new timer and let's do I wanted to do shoot how do I do this I want to add oh that's right it's not about brown worse window capture that's what I want stopwatch let's use I think this running Safari yeah so we're gonna grab this let me clip this real quick you and let's crop it it you that's how you do this guys if you ever play with a herd and tend to play with twitch or OBS I should say I really like it I like oh yes I haven't used anything else I know there are quite a few other ways to do this but you okay let's put that timer maybe over here I don't want to show the seconds because that will eat up a lot of frames YouTube right okay good deal so now we have our timer let's see what other running software we have right see if we can close anything else let's get activity monitor ready here we go my point pro when I leave that running she we don't need right now you BLC should not be running oh yes it is that's my recording oops Dona don't blow that away all right I think we're pretty clean I spent the last few days actually cleaning up stuff into the on the Mac where you going to your law it's kind of the equivalent of the Windows Start startup anyway I won't go over that now just distracted there but all right so we're going to start a timer right when we boot the server okay so the first one on deck is viral so let's get ready to launch viral here and again like I says it's not like super scientific all right we're gonna launch and they're gonna go click the timer so are we ready start your engines start okay timers running timer again yeah we could show seconds maybe all right so time is running and with Viral what I'm going to do is I'm going to use it via the now this is one big advantage that viral has folks and that is that by the way I didn't talk about my wallpaper duper this is from the Juno mission I'm so like infatuated with the Juno spacecraft guys love some of the images it's been putting up and this is another one I could just speaking of magic I could just stare at this thing anyway we're gonna load viral via browser you and right now of course sir is unavailable just observational data oh there we go it's loaded now yeah just because it says it's loaded here right doesn't mean it's it's ready to go just observational viral is probably the slowest to load the environment due to its architecture yeah I think the architecture is great you know it's think container containerized architecture but let me make sure now that I'm not hitting see it says viral this can be my fault here 140 here we go long in his guests and then what we're gonna do here folks is launched the from a repository you only takes a few seconds for me to find it and launch it right but this is how I would do it and this how you've seen me do it in my labs is I'd like to pull down for the git repository don't have to maintain anything locally right let's watch these routers boot this topology guys and gals is you seen me tweet about it it is ten routers and four switches now we're not using the four switches in this topology but the reason I include them as part of the boot and as part of the performance testing is because the way I use viral is I pull the IND topologies from the repository and boot them from there this is the most convenient and it will get the best grade on interoperability with the einie workbook because it's there in repositories that you're not having to maintain and all you do is select the lab you want and boot it no build required I love it and that is the one regret if I do discontinue using viral that is one thing that I'll regret regret not having available to me but in these topologies they always boot 10 routers and for switches right so in order to be fair when I evaluate Eve and viral I'm booting this same topology essentially when I'm comparing the these start times so we're going to watch these they're active they're building we take a little sip of coffee hope everyone's having a great Saturday when there's really nice here I stayed up late last night getting all the typologies ready in the other environments and playing around with them and making sure I was ready for this stream today but so I got up kind of late just now getting getting my coffee but hope you're having a great day and I hope your Saturday is you know whether it's labbing or studying or not maybe you're spending time with family or getting some R&R wish you the best weekend I myself I'm gonna try to get some R&R tomorrow today probably gonna be studying all the after I do this stream I'm going to be studying myself I'm into the 50s on the dais on the countdown so it's getting close five and a half minutes we've got let's see one two three four or five routers a little bit of a waiting game here folks that's fine if you have not joined us on the discord definitely check us out we've got we've had a number of people join lately as I've started to interact with other discord channels and in particular I'll call out to community member Jack he has let others know about the lamb tamer discord server so I appreciate that we've had quite a few people coming in which is great let me pull up the sheet here a sheet I'm tempted to fill I can go and fill some of these in actually while we're waiting or viral to boot let me just try to arrange this here so I can see going on um the this I've been working on the last week in this ranking it is again human ranking this is not empirically based right building a topology I have to give viral number-one definitely because you have to build in heat apologies for the ine workbook and that's again that I should put a disclaimer here because building a topology building your own lab topology these genus three and emoji are easier to me than I nee that's just me that could be my knowledge of the product but again if you're someone starting out you don't really know much about building you just want to get in there and build that's my perspective right that's not from an expert level perspective that's just from a you end user perspective alright let's get ready here it looks like our last router to load is going to be router nine so once it loads like we'll kind of use that as our marker once through 16 that's going to the telnet viral one seven zero one eight you okay now it says active let's see oh the switches are still billing - okay thought they would boot last but maybe not I need to find something else folks for the ping test you if you're not familiar with our GU drive there's a lot of little tools out there that you may find helpful in your journey if you're in the same journey I am I am of course everything all my vlogging agendas are pushed here I've got some cheat sheets this cheat sheet by the way folks this laughing software comparison chart is is located here for future reference and I'll tweet it out clean it up but we're going to use I have a CLI shortcuts it's not crazy we're gonna do this TCL script at the end here to run our pain test you but yeah feel free to grab that there's a lot I got packet captures to go along with a lot of any labs I've done boson screenshots you get an idea of what that looks like well if you're if you're interested in the boson my CCI written plan acronyms for days the book lists my lab setup areas I'm working on a written topic checklist that I work off of later I'll be putting typologies here depending on which one I select viral would not need to do that of course because those are all the all the ones I would use or on that github some of my past pack pushes blog some critical links that I use in the about pages things like that a lot of good stuff in there feel free peruse all you want it's open to the public alright I'm still waiting on router 9 here to show up you you can't what I've found is you can't really go by active on here it doesn't mean the routers ready it'd be nice if there had a ready column that is what we're waiting on here and as I think it you're going going to see right now if we look at the overview page we're hammering the processors right now so yeah CPUs in the red as you can see also where I am on the latest release of all these components RAM is load disk of is low utilization of course but CPU is definitely getting hammered that's taking a while to draw even and as you know as anyone know does laughing when you first kick off your lab it's like in real life when you first kick off a bunch of routers right G you know who you have the rocket engines taken off when everything is booting at once that is the most intensive of the loading process right all your resources are going to be used that are available it's kind of like max-q when you talk about max-q in a actual rocket launch that's when there's a maximum amount of pressure on the nose cone so they are able to slow down the rocket we're not doing that here right everything is booting up as fast as it can taking all the resources that it can and this router slow but we're also going to tell not into the one of the switches we want to switch to to boot as well right in these are iOS vl2 images on the switches okay they're all saying actor now let's see that's see where we're at still booting as router1 booted look how slow learners guys you that is actually really slow I have not seen it but-- of course I've not interacted as much as I am now Oh missing data license that should not yes my license has expired however that should not affect my lab because normally you get seven days I think that's just the boot issue I think that's just a boot message particular license might be looking for license file yeah this is really slow guys going back to evil I know I'm jumping back and forth on this I may do another stream and just kind of a dedicated review video on YouTube probably will but building topologies will keep hitting on this while we wait on the routers to load up right as far as building goes this is virtually I don't know I have to give I have to give a slight edge of even G over Janice tree but very slight the initial deploy of nodes and gns3 is easier and faster so I like the fact that you can deploy ten nodes I think you hold the shift key and you drag the router and boom you've got 10 routers I love that even G you can probably do the same thing I just did not find an intuitive way to do it right off right away without researching but even G is really slick I'm liking the more I learn about the more I like how easy it is to build labs and to interact with the labs I have to give an advantage to even GE to over building the connectors you know building the links even G is real simple gns3 is a little just it's a little grabby when you're trying to do that so that can be interesting but this is hard this is a closed that I could almost make these both to write swapping topologies what I mean by that is let's say you boot like we're doing now you boot - yeah Charpy basically repeat routing and while it's taking a while router one is just now coming up and then you finish your ERP labs and you want to load a BGP lab and again I should put here to be fair again viral is highly superior here because of the interoperability with github and the availability of github Ayni is actually you know in a fyah has provided or the INA community had provided a github for topology follows for genus three and four for even G I'm sure there would be this capability here but right now they're just not so this is a big advantage I give to viral in this category just for that reason and then I have to have to give the edge to even G here now the initial build yeah you have to do a lot of that manually but it's so easy to copy and just the UI when you're you know genus three you have to save at save topology and you have to give it a different name if you want to copy it I'm sure there are other ways to do it but an even G all you do is like right-click and copy and boom that was easier to me also if you want to load the configuration so in gns3 and even G to build and I'm not talking about just placing the nose on on the on the palate I'm talking about actually loading in the configurations that's where ie our Viral excels in genus 3 and Eve it's gonna be an exercise of copy/paste because of the way the Keamy runs there is an import and export configs function in genus 3 but as i found that's really in applicable when you're running the virtual machine right the virtual machine kind of has no knowledge or interoperability with that feature so you have to manually load your images or use at the FTP server or something like that with both of these products but even G provides a web-based interface to export the images kind of into the UI and then you can manually easily edit images into the UI until or configs and then till even G to boot to those configs so I found that a little easier to use but if I discontinue using viral the initial setup is going to take me longer than in either of these platforms that being said I'm halfway through the irony workbook where this is important so all right router one is up and he has a jarppi adjacencies and we're waiting on what I assumed to be the last router to come online which is router nine and we're still waiting on the switches and we are 18 minutes in guys let me say this as you can see here this was is a big motivator it was a big motivator for me to start shopping around and it was not this bad until the upgrade the most recent upgrade 1.5 I have no idea why that is it is a newer router image but if you compare the sizes of the router images only like 2 megabytes larger than the previous image I know I went online and looked by the way this interesting to folks you just a message about viral expiration dates here's what I've learned okay I'll get to that in a moment let's see if this okay router one this is the switch router not built still building configuration okay so I have a minute what I learned about viral exploration is I I think it was April first when it said that my order was renewed or that my last license was ordered but they started warning me like a month ago that the license about to expire so I'm logged in yesterday and I found out that essentially and I'm not sure even though the order was on April 1st it looks like my license was good or the expiration date was April 14th which is today however as of yesterday I did have a download button but was unable to download any images so it's almost as if it works this way so one borrow order or 117 or 14 CP their bull uh got the bouncy ball means we're really really hitting the CPU here so Varro ordered 414 is the new is was the expiration date okay logon 4:13 unable to images download button is there why that is maybe the site was down maybe they haven't site issues that kind of bummed me out fortunately I went in a month ago and grabbed like all the images that were available for download pretty much I grabbed the a SAV image I grabbed the iOS V of course the latest I was already I already had that one downloaded again I downloaded the Nexus 9000 that right let me let's just look today guys and be interesting to see right now if I'm totally locked out or not let me see if I can find this this is not taking many cycles guys all right router nine is booted I think we are now just waiting on the switch and then we'll call it these were the last aboot so I expect them to be last let's open another one too just to make sure till the Karl consider two eight not one of them once in zero to four all right we get the banner we're still getting console messages okay that one is ready so I'm about to hit the stop timer here okay boom I'm gonna call it at 2306 Wow granny guys you might say how did you even use viral on this machine well first of all I would often boot and I usually would try to boot the viral before I start laughing well before I have this process guys when I'm about to stream have a little checklist that I go through I've shared this with you before so you know basically I would launch this cord check the links I wanted to use in the agenda build agenda disable notifications you know my OS load up the twitch channel URLs the chat the dashboard laughing open the topology map I knee a launch viral right here so viral I started the simulation you know kind of get hit get my get ready for a launch OBS so viral is booted and that did take a while the boot time to me is not extremely critical all right unless you're having to switch labs a lot if you're switching labs a lot that's probably an indicator you're gonna be waiting you're gonna be waiting on this a lot right but most of the time you're going to launch your lab go get a some water a cup of coffee whatever the case might be you're gonna review your workbook materials you're going to review some documentation it's not it's not a huge deal you know the time that you're waiting for the lab to boot but I did not want to do that the lab boot time is an indicator of performance you know short of having like Lavin you know benchmarks to run on iOS V and iOS VL to sort of you know industry standard benchmarks that I can run into test performance I have to rely on something I can't I'm like the load time right so here we have our first marker 2306 okay now let's check our CPU utilization before I do that I'm gonna I'm going to resolve this issue or check this issue of the license downloads look at that real quick guys hich okay now it says expired right you it expired today and it's from red okay so yesterday I had the download viral button and now I no longer have that right so that's what I expected I just wanted to scratch that itch and make sure there is no grace period on downloading viral once your once it expires no more access to the images the salt server though is good for seven days so I can run viral I can run the heck out of it till I guess around like April 21st after that I will not be able to launch these images anymore right tell evarro of subscription works alright CPU utilization let's check it out see we're at on the cpu let's the launch a little Activity Monitor here there's actually already running which means I need to leave it running for the others to be fair right so cpu load right now system and user so we're about 90 we're only three percent idle guys this is the number really need to look at we are 32.9% idle two point five we're gonna we're gonna go ahead and say we're just going to kind of make this arbitrary right that's not scientific but the lowest I saw here was two point five four will say two and a half percent CPU utilization idle point 12 okay yeah we're hitting it really hard and this is an i-5 you know regrets ideally I would have a dedicated server just for running this via these VMs right and it may get to a point where I have to do that it may get to that point I need a bigger machine I've had this machine a while also so is there a way to get a better number on this doesn't do averages does it you that's just on that process yet launched the okay while point 49 all right I guess we'll do some sampling ourselves so let's just say just probably a better tool to do this I've not really looked into it sampling viral all time viral what are we doing that she knows three so 772 9:7 I saw - one - I think right three one five 3:7 we would do about 20 samples 892 99 is it just me or does it oh no I thought it was just shrinking when I had oops putting that in my wrong window there the sample period I don't know what that is it's probably like every five seconds you not too crazy you 9/5 so hovering around 90 90 plus percent for sure okay so we're gonna do a little calculation here a sample average and then we're gonna say so yields a ssin is 100 minus a 21 for example here you let's move this out you all right fair enough viral we want to do another we're doing some other performance testing here right memory utilization I'm not too concerned about to be honest because I guess we could we're using swap here this is something I'm not to keen about swap is not good swap means slow so remember use actually let's say memory used these cashed files and swap used we need to put okay memory is generally not constrained at least from the point of view of viral itself if we look at the viral server you'll see that Oh take that back okay yes so that's why I had to add memory to get this topology a load right so there we have it what's our next test on viral is we're just going to do a ping test here just kind of look at responsiveness to and what I'm looking for here is delay see that there's a little bit of delay there do not like that at all a great test is a show run we're gonna do a show run in a pink test and then we'll start the next okay see how slow it is it's pretty slow it was not always a slow folks generally - to be fair what I've done is I've killed the switches when I'm doing a routing I would kill the four switches we may do that and just yeah we'll do that to see what difference that makes where's our ping test you TCL quit so there you have folks definitely not optimal performance VM load is okay we're going to rank these because they were rank them against each other afterwards let's do one more thing before we switch to genus three let's kill e switches and see if that improves the response for this on the show run even this is kind of slow here and again I generally do this and it's usually fine afterwards what's going on oh yeah notes let's kill all four switches and just see you see me do this so many times on on the stream but again when I loaded topology from any repository github repository this is what we load requested a stop you and then we'll do our show run again once they once they die here you I'm going to clear that timer and we'll get ready to do s3 gns3 is next coming up on the latter chamber string genus tree test the bloodbath continues the war the software war you know I have not come to think of it I haven't seen anyone do this almost always right whatever Cisco or any vendor comes out with a new product they do their own sort of performance testing we compared our router against the Juniper router in the same class in Category and our scientists demonstrated five times the speed when performing such a such test I haven't seen anything like that for a viral even G or gns3 maybe I should do that if you're listening and you need a tester viral even G developers gns3 developers and you want someone to test for you benchmark just send me a DM and I'll be happy to hire myself out at a substantial rate just let me know if you have any issues with this test and you would like to prove otherwise I challenge you to stream it live and show us demonstrate to us that the results were not fair all right so we've killed the 10 routers our switches four switches now I'll bet you if we do a show run it should be a little better it came up a little quicker let's look at our CPA as well you activity monitor where are you close reopen oh look at this is dropped a lot i will contend that these switches the switch images are hefty that shows it right there so maybe one day we will do a comparison of just router images versus the switch images because if you're if you're using mainly routing images and you're not using the switch images very often which is the case for me maybe that would be a better really a better test maybe we'll do that we'll see I don't have a lot of time for testing folks I got to get to studying right I got I only have so many days to work on this stuff but it's disproportionate apparently what is the size of those images Harrison let me see if I can find quick I think they're my downloads folder yeah these are all the viral images are downloaded right 41.2 meg and under 28 so they're smaller like three times smaller the image size but that doesn't mean they're less efficient okay now we're looking at idle times of similar so not a huge difference like I thought there might be oh I minimized it that's why sorry all right so are we I guess where we at we are gonna do another we're just kind of checking right so switch turning down the switch images helped a little still kind of slow let's look at our overview here within viral and we see that Iran went down but our CPU still maxed out pretty much 3 on 50% so yeah it helped for images help the RAM but did not really help the CPU too much all right so here's what we're gonna do we're gonna shut down question about viral or want me to check anything going once going twice alright chessmen kind of quiet that's okay Saturday morning AMS coffee sipping sure let's go ahead and shut down shut er down some viral there's what different ways to do that but I'm just gonna do this this is the most graceful I'm not saying we have grace I'm just saying sign for reference here you alright guys well that is stopping I'm gonna get ready Tom gns3 I'm gonna go grab some liquids ok I'll be right back don't go anywhere the show will continue in just a moment to remember how to do this with my the hotkeys have some hotkeys for this okay try this out be right back folks you okay and we're back Wow that's already been going like an hour-and-a-half here so next up let's pull up our comparison chart here that should be shut down oh yes shut down the system please actually let's go here we're gonna do gns3 next last night I got the ya dirty topology built in gns3 so I learned a little bit about the says so timer is just about ready wait for this to shut down okay just to show everyone again my genus 3 I'm running at genus 3 VM I find it interesting the way that actually need to put this back to where it was 3 yeah gns3 was able to launch the topology with only two processors it was still pretty slow and it's and it's better with three processors and again that is comparison to viral so we have to borrow us our baseline on their requirements I find it interesting to this this caught me off guard one thing I had kind of had to learn with genus 3 is the interaction between the GUI software and the the VM so I was launching the VM and then launching the software etc you don't have to do that right also when you close down gns3 it shuts down the vm i was not expecting that either but now i know how that works of those three I kind of liked the model that viral and even G use and we should probably put that as a comparison chart let's see this has a they all three have a GUI I guess client software that way these two have it you didn't see me use it but you know Varro has the the GU the GU client software as well I find the web-based UI easier to use you I and of course that's even G primarily I don't know that even G has another GUI interface besides a web UI I think gns3 has one but I've not used it so I can't really compare anyway all right let's get ready here we're about to gns3 and we're gonna do that via the I'm going to count this at the start as opposed to the other ones you'll see it's kind of hard to describe how gns3 is different but alright we are going to launch genus 3 and start the timer so first it opens a local server then you have and it launches the VM which is great we're gonna load our basic Hydra peer outing and again this does not start the routers automatically it's the same an even G so you can see there are differences of course and how you interact with the routers and the virtual machines and the user interfaces in all three this to me is the most sort of different okay this is launch so we're gonna go ahead and start the routers that's pretty quick so far right you and they all show green of course they're not started yet let's go to router nine let's consult of him and let's watch switch for boot kind of like we did on the last lab so we're getting our boots screens what we're doing counter yeah I got some liquid here forgive me us I can talk a little bit about YouTube you know we're gonna sit here by the old lab campfire and tell some yarns and you know complain about our our wood gatherers or whatever the case may be but you know I want to talk a little bit about YouTube changes I started out streaming exclusively on YouTube later a Demetri Fiegel kind of inspired me to I'd already considered twitch twitch was kind of the in-game but I thought I could build the community a little better on YouTube and but I was inspired by Dimitri fee goals channel Python network programming basics a channel on twitch I thought well he's doing it he seems to have good response I think I'm ready so I made the switch to twitch maybe they switch to twitch and so far so good at some point I decided I wanted to dual dual posts so I stream to twitch and I upload to YouTube still mainly because on twitch I'm not a partner yet one day I hope to be and twitch you know only keeps your videos they expire after a while the value is but you know especially in some of the laughing stuff people want to compare when they do a lab and how I did lab I felt it's important to kind of keep a repository so you know I'm keeping the videos on YouTube I'm not really streaming on YouTube anymore and when I go to Cisco live I plan this to stream from twitch mobile maybe YouTube mobile that will see how those platforms compare I don't really know yet but monetization has never been my goal or my aim for this this land tamer endeavor right it's always been the aim to build a community and meet other networkers and find study partners which has succeeded mmm in a much better way than I ever thought it would so in that in that respect it has been a very successful endeavor launching these channels I will say though that recently I was watching Casey nice that I don't know if you're familiar with him but he is a vlogger youtuber extraordinaire he just started a twitch channel by the way what I've been watching him because he is that's where I got the idea for wearing the shades all the time and how that impacts kind of the view of the or the perspective of the viewer and our interaction with them with the viewers but he has been kind of watching and he has been very objectively so critical of YouTube and some of this changes and how it is supporting the community the youtubers community you know which I consider myself to be a part of right and recently there have been some very disappointing sort of decisions I think made by YouTube like I said I'm I don't care about monetization at all for this only in so much as an experiment one day I may launch a business not even related to networking I may launch a media business and I've always been curious to see how monetization works how you know searching works and how do you know how social media interaction and so a lot of this for me the Lantana is an experiment in you know business practices and social media and marketing etc for some future endeavor right but recently YouTube has made changes to monetization for example I was actually close to obtaining the ability to monetize videos like I said I don't care it's just for observational experimental purposes Plus on YouTube you basically have to have get like a million views per video it's just from what I've heard from youtubers you essentially have to get a million views per video to make about what would be the equivalent of minimum wage to get a million views per video you have to be a pretty big youtuber you have to really stand out you have to have a wide audience but they've even limited that lately so the floor for monetization was recently I think it was in January I was close to reaching that floor and they shifted it way up so it used to be I think 10,000 views and 100 there are no 200 subscribers or something like that I'm not sure I'm pretty close about 10,000 views but now I think it is a certain number of hours viewed on your channel and a thousand subscribers so for people who are expert in this experiment I think that is it makes a payoff a lot order to reach or a payoff it makes it harder to transition because a lot of people will start out in YouTube with the hope or a streaming on twitch with the hope that one day they can quit their day job right mm-hmm and a lot of streamers that I watch on twitch to do that and that's cool I don't know that I would ever want to do that right unless I could like make what I'm making now and build my own labs networking laughs that would be really cool that's never gonna happen probably not in my lifetime maybe not a lifetime right I would say never I'm always trying to be optimistic but but anyway that makes people who are trying to do it whether they're doing gaming where they do want to do it yourself whether they're automobile mechanics fishermen fisherwomen whatever the case might be the floor is then a lot higher and it's gonna be a lot more difficult I don't know if that means that the twitch ad revenue is kind of shrinking I don't know if that's in response to sort of the backlash from some of the you know recent YouTube controversies that I don't know I do like though that twitch seems to be making inroads into YouTube's market dominance YouTube if you want to post social videos and earn income pretty much it's been YouTube Vimeo is there but Vimeo is quite a different business model it's not the wide audience social media giant that YouTube is by no means hey we've got a European neighbor ship here so we got a router coming up here router 9 that's good right nine minutes and gns3 is first to spill blood devastating blow to times as it beats out viral by a large margin again guys this is the eigrp basic routing topology it is exactly the same except I think there is an additional switch here there's not really a switch here in again this is just a kind of dumb switch but this is here that configs are the same for the all the routers so that's why we see as a matter of fact on the config skies this was not manual at all all I did was these are the viral tiny viral initial configs that you can get on the link I shared earlier and all I did was copy paste all right yesterday so it's basic ya GRP routing exact same configs for the exact same images that's what I really like about using the viral images across platforms is the interfaces are going to be the same right so that's really cool I like that all right waiting on the switch right now we might be getting close here guys we just check out a couple more routers chicka router 10 yeah he's got a Jason C's here he's up banners up so I think we're just waiting on this excuse me this switch to finish booting and displaying the console messages the boot console messages we're really close folks let's go - switch - as well just switch here I was thinking this would actually potentially load quicker this is what we saw with viral also we saw the Oh this is these are unexpected results but I was not expecting this to be that much quicker so far again this could take 10 minutes but I doubt it will process you've seen this before this is when we have basically we got the CPU hog messages we're waiting on a CPU CPUs does this show the RAM being used in memory you this is interesting to compare right let's look at these side-by-side you this has more interfaces for sure so I've got 16 gig interfaces here just comparing images here for a moment for gigabit here DRAM configuration is the same raishin memories the same two nine seven one five two K bytes of a TA system compact flash this is just slightly larger right the image is larger well I don't I don't know if that's what that's telling me exactly so very comfortable there alright just why you only switches the boot you what are we looking like on the CPU you I forget what my commands are you Oh we'd like to see this I forgot about this I changed service yesterday folks between the auto setting in OBS I'm going to go over that and a little bit alright that's waiting on CPU to boot here yeah that's my configured frames-per-second up here on the counter you can see frames per second from the OBS counter I'm curious how it interfaces impacts performance our boot time on these images you one time 14 and almost 15 minutes per boot time switch to switch for ya these switches take a while at the boot don't they very intense okay yeah show still booting c6 you expect this to be slow you so yeah what I was saying about YouTube earlier is kind of disheartening to see kind of the trend of YouTube and its interaction with the community another reason I'm glad I have recently you know switched over to twitch for the live streams I do still get good interaction on YouTube the chat is not as good on YouTube in terms of the chat tools okay we got a little alarm here okay got a banner get ready to hit the yes you you still very unresponsive inside the window press return II get started okay you okay they would call it there all right 1644 so let's pull up our test oh wait a second fine these are just trace backs oh okay continue links are not up yet yep that's us we're not up quite yet here this is switch for ya I would expect that he's probably last the food you you okay we'll call it there a bad huh he's still coming up okay whereas our comparison chart you it does seem like once one of the devices is still booting and kind of monopoly monopolizes the cpu right because each other all the other devices are still slow yeah it had not finished booting yet by any means you okay I think we can call it now 18:41 well yeah seems like it you we're still getting these CPU hogs we'll have to see how that how that goes 18:41 utilization CPU sampling we need to do that actually this was what we say seven point six so let's check our CPU here you Sheena's three we'll watch it eight someone 13:52 you so it looks like other processes are still running congealing let gets booted up these are just warning about a task that's running you 13:42 17-7 1899 you there seems to be a lot more CPU out of time doesn't mean necessarily that it's better responsiveness is going to be the main judgment call here how responsive is are the routers are the systems the switches when you are logged into them right that's really the main thing but you cannot cannot really test that empirically that's a user perception thing right like I would want gns3 to use more CPU if it would be more responsive well okay eighteen point four significant difference memory used is what see I'm not [Music] I don't know how much I like that you right let's check our responsiveness by doing a show run on router one that's what we did on the other test you I wonder if I had the same amount of memory you yeah I remarked on this yet our I saw this yesterday this show run takes a while really all the environments all the servers you yeah Maya my legs are toast guys yesterday we did back squats legs are gone today absolutely roasted now look how long that is taking now the cursors are very responsive by comparison that could be the way you know that could be the way that each server stores files like their file storage and I don't know how it works but the cursor is very responsive some of the displays take a little longer though this has never been super fast you yeah it's taking a while isn't it this memory cuz that's it should be about right Mido we'll check that do I have less memory on this one I do ooh that's not good yes that's why that's why alright folks we're gonna have to redo we're gonna do a redo on that one very sorry about that let's shut her down gotta compare apples apples you yeah we're gonna wipe all this I did that yesterday I really did what I'll do is I'm gonna do even G next just so you have something else to look at and then we will come back to gns3 we're gonna give it a fair shake so what what is interesting about gns3 is of your ability to quit from the GUI and then how that evokes a shutdown of the virtual machine automatically I for that that is a mess up on my part they're the same well go back to the processor cores three and that is three okay all right here we go we are going to launch you round three even G you startup start timer you again my apologies folks that was about 15 minutes of our time that we'll never get back I will say though take that back because I was considering running gns3 a 10 Giga RAM is that what that is what viral used to run on 10 Giga RAM only until recently did I have to add Ram to viral to get the topology to launch as you can see under gns3 obviously the handling of ram is better because it that could be just due to restrictions of viral actually maybe viral does some checking you know kind of resource checking and says it has a minimum we're not going to allow you to launch this with this much RAM but either way when I had to upgrade 1.5 dot one four five after that I could not load the topology without adding two Giga RAM to the configuration so the gns3 was experiment was good obviously we were able to load the configuration it was not as a responsive though I think is viral so notice that it's already this loads quick guys we gotta stay on top of this to give it a fair shake so loading my I guess admin Eve right yeah all right I love how quick this is right start all nodes look how clean and fast set launches the VM was so fast and I will say do we have that on here VM load yeah loading the virtual machine itself got to give even G a 1 & 2 & a 3 that way even the shutdown I don't have that as a VM shutdown but well let's put that on here system shutdown same Eavis so fast in comparison in my view alright says it says router one is started they all turn blue so let's go to router ten here and see where we get and we're gonna open also switch for you a little more coffee really impressed with Eve so far again this is an unbiased test but I have to say just in preparing for this this shootout Eavis really impressed me as I'm leaning towards IVA I'm gonna be honest and that is just not even looking at the numbers this is Justin doing the builds and interacting with other engineers other students CCIE students um again as you see here you do have the launch of the UI and the launch just like viral and the launch of the virtual machine are separate functions unlike gns3 where it's a simple you know launch the client select your topology and the virtual machine is already loading right you hey guys if you have not seen Casey nice tats YouTube channel and you're interested in streaming yourself or one day launching a YouTube channel he is a person that whom you should definitely take a look right so as you see as about nine points scribers um I hope this doesn't launch because I don't want to get banned on YouTube forget but he has recently started a new started anew relaunched his channel I guess and now he has a twitch definitely check that out he's always said that YouTube needs more competition and it's definitely coming in the form of twitch which I don't know why I won't allow you to save your videos is mainly streaming platform of course it is strong in that area just like YouTube is mainly a video channel video on-demand Channel which is why it is not so strong in the streaming tools I'd love to see them feed off each other and add features and incorporate some ingenuity in those areas you I've not had breakfast or lunch yeah guys I woke up I stayed up late worked on getting these typologies ready playing on discord interacting with some people and everything ready for the stream at 10 a.m. so then I went to sleep about 1 got up legs are on fire because of the back squats yesterday we're doing three sets of three sets at 90 percent yesterday coffee though alright so Wow we already got press return to get started here what is a switch which one is which I'm not sure a router 10 ok switch for Wow check it out folks interface is already coming up where we at seven minutes and even G has entered the ring with a vengeance prepared to devastate his opponents or her opponents or the case may be and is swinging hard even G has come out swinging it looks like in this case the switches are coming up before the routers which is interesting well press return to get started on the routers Oh what interfaces are coming up neighbor adjacencies are being formed hey guys are we done let's check a couple more routers right or 9 we're getting some trace backs you I'm not gonna consider it loaded yet not yet you as we get in a lot of these right the topology is still kind of converging you switches up guys I'm being a little generous here right trying to compare apples apples but I'm being a little generous I'm even waiting for all the adjacencies form you yeah he only has one neighbor so guys won't call it 9:47 and even G has entered the ring and dealt a knockout blow what do we got going on here oh yeah this I'm not sure what this is yet gosh this is some sort of error CDP error I'm getting I'm not too concerned about this moment but you'll probably see it on the screen switches are up man Shh smoking let's do some testing here I want to fix that - where - just go ahead and open til now look at that what do we need to test here we need to look at CPU so where's our CPU testing at did I close that we are at let's go back to CPU you you CP sampling we're gonna disregard this right this is invalid now notice the idle is lower here I'm okay with that if the system runs faster right and I think that's because we had less memory right for the gns3 instance you this is consistent that folks with what I have seen in my build phases this is very consistent with what I've seen of the boot up time of even G I realized I did not have activity monitor running so you know to be fair at the end we may do another quick test because it was running when viral was but again I'm saying this is consistent of what I've seen every time this is not a shock or a surprise it's a little fashion what I expected it to load you yeah weird again just this is the unofficial just sampling this is not yay okay so we have actually a lower idle here 546 I'm perfectly fine with that though if the system runs faster it's more more efficient in other words so this is where we got an indication earlier that there might be a problem with the RAM but here we see we're only using we have more cached files I'm not sure how to interpret that so let's check just the basic responsiveness let's do a this is a show run router one right show run this is still not really fast and even GE lease in my initial tests you we're also gonna do this ping test here real quick you you so that is always slow as I've seen syrup in test you what else can we check I don't know these are comparable right now don't you think these are pretty confident comparable um show IP e.g repeat apology and you know what may turn out that way folks that because of the hardware because of the hardware that I'm working with and because of the images all being the same I would actually expect pretty much even responsiveness when using the images right I don't expect a wide disparity of performance run running performance in these environments due to the underlying architecture though I do expect to see faster or slower load times and differences in utilization which is what we were seeing I did not enumerate my hypotheses prior to this test but those were in my head shows CDP neighbor bad a little bit of delay on the you okay anything else before we revisit gns3 that was fast best load okay watch a facet shuts down this is this is incredible actually close that I don't know of any other shutdown folks for this there may be a different shutdown procedure that I'm just not aware of but and we're done simple as that so system shutdown via eve is superfast right all right let's go back to hey we got some yes traceback means lack of sea seems we little too small CP limit to on nodes man it's great to have you a developer here that is awesome I feel honored man to have you here sorry I haven't responded earlier so I hope you're still on so to answer these questions yes I do have a small system let me show you the system that I have if actually girl a YouTube channel and this is common alright I'm not the only one actually go you to slash the land tamer about so yes I do have a small system of course this is we're comparing right all three systems on the same hardware so I think / of any of these systems say hey your system is small yes it is it's only four cores only i5 2.7 gigahertz 16 gig ram and i mac mac OS it's actually just running sierra not high sierra so yes and I'm running VMware fusion pro 7.1 at 3:00 it's not the latest version by any means but this is common I think right you're gonna commonly see people who need to need to run on limited hardware it's not the ideal their hardware they'd like to have so and that way I think it's a you know somewhat of a fair test your platforms - yeah did you set the cpu limit on the nodes I did not the only CPU limitations I did in even G I did load some dinah dinah mips image and on the Dynamix image I did set the idle time I don't know if that's what you mean but I'd love to be pointed in the right direction on that if there's some CPU if that would make it perform better absolutely and we're can have you in here bébé levy sec mm good to have you here man so far even G is he's doing well I think we're about to go back though to even G because we launched even I'm starting not even G with genus 3 because we launched gns3 with only okay we're now 12 all right so let's let's let genus 3 back in the ring here you you I did right to not set it's really the last resort method yeah it's have huge lab on to small systems subscribing right basically although I will say in VMware like I'm I was formerly a BCP VMware administrator it is common to configure your virtual machines that were scribed but that's when you're running on you know ESXi hosts and you have multiple virtual machines right this is just one host one virtual machine but yeah I get trace backs of getting trace backs on all three by the way I think this is a great product BB SEC mm I've been very impressed with even G so far I'm a viral I've been a viral user for three years but I'm cheap we're not really cheap I dude trust me I've spent several thousands of dollars on this CCIE journey right when it comes to the CCIE checkbook is open always has been I've spent quite a bit of Bank on preparing for the CCIE and will continue to do so for me what's important is time right time is so limited time is money and that is what is primordial here is saving time with the labs that's why I'm doing this test but well yeah so far I've been impressed and with even G and the speed at which it so I praise you for your development great product and I would be happy to provide feedback where you know it's helpful I'm very minimal to to the networking of community and always have been I embrace the networking community so we're gonna load router ten here and switch for like we did in the other tests let's see I think it definitely is going to come down to gns3 and even G on this system right and to your question BB SEC mm I have not really done any within the software I have not done any optimizations I will though I plan to later so I think what we'll see on this one is that the um the routers we load first this router 10 let's watch the CPU - while it's loading you yeah I am seriously considering getting another computer though dedicated machine because the labs I want to do are just gonna get bigger and bigger also I have 1,700 tokens I think for the I&E back rental and at some point I want to start leveraging that I'm real curious to see how the rack runner goes that's real gear right so the systems themselves would be faster however there's latency introduced just to the fact of your access it remotely versus running on your own system right so you yeah once I make a decision on which software I'm gonna use going forward what's this this little celebrity software death matches have been concluded here we have a clear winner I'm going to want to do a little bit of tweaking to basically make it run the best I can make it run on the system I have right so the CPU limit that you mentioned is interesting be be sick did you set CP limit to on on the notes I have not how would I do that that's something we can look up while we're waiting on this timer even G CPU limit here we go good videos too by the way I was well we're using them last night when I was building I don't know who did the videos but official videos were good exporting configs and watch that video last night also one thing I have to give Eve ng props on for sure is the ease and let me put that here under comparison chart Global setting in a Status page but limited to set as well a node right so there's a global and there's a per node and it modal okay thank you for that I appreciate that we will do that for the purpose of this particular performance test but definitely going forward I will look into that for sure thank you very much for sharing and thanks for being here and I didn't I welcome on all feedback and my I have no loyalty to any product trying to be truly objective here and determine what is best for me to use in my situation but what I was saying - is that the one part of building the environment was to try to remember my train of thought here I was doing the exporter that configs yeah oh yeah ease of connecting to physical network Hey look at this we're getting close here we're already past even geez time this is a router yet routers always come up first it seems gns3 why keep it okay we're not running uh we got antivirus disabled right now yeah see this is the same thing we get weed this trace backs hermits when we're doing the boot up which is fine as long as I'm not getting them while I'm Billy you know using the lab I'm okay I'm used to this actually I'm actually used to this on this machine during boot up if I start seeing these though while I'm labbing we got a problem so I don't expect to see that timer still running folks how are we looking on timers gns3 is struggling his trying tried hard you okay router 10 is up mostly I have to give even G props on that this is number one on that this should be comparison not comparison results yeah let's put that here because Eve wins Eve wins in that regards genus three is number two and viral is number three I am so if I've been so afraid to try to modify like I said this supposed to be a lot better in since version 1.5 but modifying the networking of your virtual machine in the past in viral 1.3 and earlier has been fraught with problems for me and others gns3 wasn't hard at all I did have to add I think an extra Nick even G super easy so easy so good job on that BB SEC so far Eve is doing really well the only thing and this is not the fault of Eve but the interaction with the I&E typologies is just more developed by the community here I think with Viral and that's hiney themselves right they have actually sort of appeared to promote the viral but now I don't want to get political here right I don't want to get political I don't want insinuate I believe that ie is a partner a learning partner of Cisco I believe tell me if I'm wrong in that which means that you can use Cisco Learning credits authorized learning partners okay they are not micronics is but interesting I found out that in micronics they frequently use so micronics summer people went to the boot camp and I know that they use let me check on this guys I want to lose track of this timer micronics uses the cisco what is it called sisqó expert level training they also encourage the use of even G I know that that's not from a fish official source so I Ania is not on here I thought they were a global knowledge and see expert net masterclass in her wine and skyline I've never researched these so I need is not there so I'm not sure why yes that's what I heard - he was sick like I think they gave you access to an assessment or two or lab or two or something on the Cisco expert level training site you got to login and you were able to do some assessment work or something like that but labs and workbook everything is geared towards even G and several people in the discord Channel by the way if you're not our discord definitely check it out you second anyone else watching we got a lot going on on the discord channel but several we have a boot camps our discord server I should say we have a boot camps channel on the discord server and yeah people were you know we compared as independent engineers not associated anybody we compare notes and that was one thing that was said you know about even G and and another reason that kind of pushed me to reevaluate viral versus DNA gns3 versus even G one thing that's happening here folks is this is taking a while didn't we get to about 15 minutes before on gns3 this is our second gns3 test books and again that is because the first time I launched it I only had 10 gig of ram instead of 12 gig now we're launching it with 12 gig and I think we got to about 15 minutes yeah the documentation is great oh here's another comparison category that I need to talk about and that is on ease of importing the viral images actually give Eve number two on that and gns3 and number three obviously viral is number one again not everyone is using the viral images that is something that I sort of set out to start that I want to use them for this test and and I will be using them for the I&E workbook the majority of it but it was a little confusing on both platforms again probably my knowledge but I followed the instructions to the tea even G had some very specific instructions for loading them and once I did that it was fine one thing I did not understand from the beginning is how to actually select the router image to put it in the topology that was just my fault but genus 3 took a little more doing it took a little more for me to figure out this is still loading us this is switch for right let's load switch to goes alright seeing some life and we're in so what switch for yeah press return to get started Tenace been loaded we're gonna wait last time I stopped the timer when all the interfaces had not come up yet see this so still got a spanning tree apologies not yet fully converged yeah your piece should be converge here and it is okay we're almost there though yes can make the stream looks great all right mentor good have you good to have you on thank you okay line protocol still up yeah Jack good to have you my friend appreciate all your support hope you're having a good Saturday get some Guinness some which yeah Jack everyone so just just so you know jack is also we need more streamers we need more networking streamers and I've been saying this for let's see may well be a year for me streaming or June and we don't have a lot all the ones that we have I support wholeheartedly so I posted a link in discord for Jack's new YouTube channel where he's gonna be streaming in YouTube on you know networking ladies stuff so definitely check them out the link is on the discord Channel this is almost done guys we're almost there so again it's still very unresponsive everything loads you okay yeah I'm at happy - I stream on YouTube for like six months and of course I post the YouTube just about every day are we gonna call her here folks I think so well want to be able to run a command here you okay cool let's call it all right there it is 19 minutes 17 seconds we have a winner folks in the boot up challenge and the big reveal is look at that difference in time yes look at that BB SEC you're well represented here because that is huge that is a huge difference I don't make this bigger here yet so boot up time which is an indicator of performance in my mind even G is the winner that's not the whole story so hola hang on your britches here Gus gals we need to do the CPU utilization comparison test and then most of all responsiveness right so let's do our sampling nine three six ten 19:59 a while you you never tried a comparison yeah I have not either until now it's a big decision for me I mean I don't like taking time away from learning to work on the lab like that's what I'm doing right now working on the lab basically any time spent building the lab building the road to your destination is less time you are at your destination right granted there are things to be learned here but I felt this is important this is a priority to me because I take the lab system I use very seriously you know that's gonna be I want to run this every day its main purpose of this computer right here is to run the lab software and I need it to be the best I think it can be so I made the decision even though I have 57 days to go to the written exam I'm gonna take a couple of days out I'm gonna carve them out of my study schedule and I'm gonna do this comparison so yeah this wins here gns3 wins on the cpu utilization well I say wins that is is it winning if it uses less CPU but it's slower then I don't know we may discard this number altogether but there it is memory use so we've got 12 38 it's very similar it's actually less than either the three this I expected I expected even viral to use the most amount of memory 3:31 and 2.8 so very little swapping that's good okay let's do our responsiveness tests that running and move him over and we're gonna the let's click connect to router one I did mentors let's turn over to let me bring that up for you so you can see it well I didn't put it here but if you go to my it's down below it's on the about pages for both the YouTube and the twitch channel so they're not the best specs in the world I'm gonna be honest they're not what anybody would consider ideal but it's what I've got so I've got a iMac 21 5 inch Mac os10 Sierra this is wrong it's not running high sierra I've held back from installing that Yemen mentors so I've got I 5 not i79 certainly due to age 4 core processor 2.7 gigahertz 16 gig of ram and I'm running VMware fusion pro 7 at 1.3 so but you know when you think about it if these are the results you see on this system side by side I would expect to see pretty similar results on even better systems you know scaled of course so let's try the router one first yeah Jason seas are up right let's do a show run I don't know why on the viral images this seems to take a while I may do a comparison my next comparison I think maybe viral router images vs. see 70-200 router images I'd be real curious to see functionality obviously there will be some differences the iOS version will be different what about performance that might be an interesting upcoming comparison test see that did take a while that's comfortable well comparable to the others you know using the Dynamix versus this image which the viral image is Hakeem ooh Kimo I don't know if I'm saying that right like some differences there you see what they are test we wanted to do show IP route ya jarppi the okay comparable a cursor is comparable let's do our ping test you you I do not use any physical hardware currently I have in the past though in fact for CCMP switching it was all hardware and for routing CCMP route I prepared using the genus 3 and the Dynamix hey you gonna fall word thank you very much appreciate that hey Gabe alright big of our discord server channel appreciate have it thank you for the fall appreciate that so there we have it guys we've got the guys and gals we got the this this actually ran a little more responsive the ping test I pee a jerk very similar kind of responsiveness what else have the test here pain testing we did that yeah I've seen those lab kits those are pretty cool mentors as a matter of fact I bought I bought my layer 3 switch I found the cheapest for the ccmp switch exam I tried to locate the the least expensive CMP switch I could find layer 3 switch and I bought a 3,500 for like a hundred bucks at the time and I already had other switches I had like some 29 what are those are the 2600 switches eight ports I had like three of those and that's what I used to get ready for the CCP switch exam yeah but those kits are pretty cool all right any other numbers we need I think we're done I think we are done folks going to close that yeah it is much more affordable that is a good point of years ago guys let's even go back three four years if you wanted to study for the CCMP route switch or the CCIE so many more options today than there used to be as mentors the saying or Jack is saying there's you know if you want to build a hardware lab these days and you don't care that you're running the latest and greatest equipment or images it's so much cheaper than it was before and that is all due to competition right just just the fact that we have viral gns3 and even G in the variants they are today there's so much better than what they were in the past so it's a good time to be an engineer to be studying for an exam because there's so many more options that you have first for labbing and learning traffic forum is interesting never really Testament because we have three different sub layers yes Mauro uses a nova OpenStack our land bridge software gene as usual in native Linux bridges okay that's very good to know Beebe second in case you guys don't know BB suck here is a even G developer so we have a celebrity among us here providing some great information but yeah we didn't you know we didn't really do any traffic performance in this and I guess traffic performance is actually something that you could test using some industry standard tools I would imagine and if you're doing a work-related proof-of-concept and you want to do load testing or something like that that could be very important that could be very important for most labs we do here for the ID workbook traffic performance is not really a factor I have to say but yeah was aware of viral using the OpenStack gns3 uses a user landbridge it's interesting to say that BB suck because I have I had an issue in gns3 let me see if I can replicate that I haven't researched how to fix this yet I'm sure there's an easy fix or maybe was even gee I was getting a CDP duplex mismatch and an even G I used a network object to bridge the switches and this uses the Ethernet switch right good stuff man great stuff well guys it is about lunchtime I've not eaten yet I think this is going to wrap up let me just kind of conclude things by summarizing what I've learned today we can shutdown gns3 as well right uh yeah that's a good comparison for Mentors and now that you mentioned that I do want to add that too I would actually say I would actually say genus 3 kind of has an edge over both viral and even G but let's fill out the rest of these rankings guys and then we'll wrap it up we've got documentation now with Jeana Street with all three of these you have to think there is official community documentation and then there's unofficial documentation right viral has gotten a lot better than 1.5 but I still think there's probably yeah this was close even G and viral were close in the previous versions but viral definitely stepped it up in this last 1.5 release and are probably moved in the number two on the documentation but with Gina story even G I don't think you need a lot of documentation but David bumble then he is the most epic networking youtuber there is I think living or nonliving this stuff is awesome it's very high quality and that's why genus reason number one in that regard interoperability with the ining workbook i have to give these two a tie on on number two because they're about the same responsiveness they're all pretty much the same to be honest I don't know I give maybe an edge yeah that's what I thought be view sekai in fact I think I remember seeing that before l1 is not present and CDP reports a mismatch on virtual interfaces right Cisco should remove the CDP information autonegotiation can never occur when using tap interfaces very true very true and I know there's probably a way to suppress that message but it's no big deal right it's kind of a kind of a pain pink testing I'll actually give a little bit of an edge to genus 3 on that so we're gonna do a little scoring system here just for fun this doesn't really mean anything rewriting a cookbook oh that's awesome I'm gonna jump all over that whenever that comes out of you SEC that is great I'm curious are you a paid developer you a community developer volunteer both how does that work for even jeet is I don't even know even G's business model it would want my was great has released the latest yeah on udemy under $15 just yeah guys good mentioned mentors because after CCIE for me it's gonna be Python most likely and I've used you to me in the past I use you to me for my CCNA and I think it's a great yeah definitely gonna be worth checking out that and some books and courses etc awesome so let's just do a little arbitrary thing here this doesn't really mean anything guys but I'm just curious that the numbers line up here you so genus three edges out on just these pure numbers but they're not they're not weighted numbers I was years to kind of see how that would come out but sec awesome guys are going to be honest based on these numbers alone I think I have to give an edge overall what this represents is that I will not be renewing my viral subscription it does not mean yeah awesome it does not mean that I will not renew it in the future because eventually the viral images I have the cumulative images will go out of date right they will not be the latest images and at some point from time to time I may want to get a subscription when there is a deal and download the latest images to use in my labs but we will not be renewing viral at this time bar we've been great been great for three years but I think it's time to start a new adventure and these two I think what's going to happen is I'm going to be using I will be using both for a while inconclusive so viral discontinued you and I'm going to say between even G and genus three we're gonna do some more testing but leaning Eve ng I'm just gonna go ahead and say it guys and part of that is to to mainly the ease with which if I do if I had to kind of wait these rankings this one's very important and this one is important and also physical environment I thought I had that on here this one is important so if you take just all these even G is definitely kind of on top right so I think that's probably what's going to happen I'm leaning towards that I hear that - you know another thing is I have to add here that is very important is popularity other students and in that regards to have to give even G a nudge and that is another reason why I think this is going to be my main squeeze here going for guys even G wins the Battle of the lab software and that will be my new primary labbing software my new go-to Lee even G Community Edition gns3 will be my backup Vaughn will be discontinued for now and that's it this guy's this is going this is on the Google Drive link that is on the discord Channel and link below Google Drive share under lambing software comparison chart available to everybody thanks for inviting the chat helping out especially to BB SEC some great great tips on even G usage and some great feedback from mentors and others the bizzle yep I agreed to bizzle gns3 or eve they're they're very close the performance is very close you can pull off with either if you're gonna start new I would say if you don't it and let me wrap this up by saying if you don't have any images you're brand new you need some good images get a year with Viral what I did you can download images a sau now on Nexus if nothing else get it just to get the downloads and get your legit images that you can use however you want then set it up in even G or gns3 actually going to recommend even G to start set it up in gns3 as well though as a backup you always want to have two running labs software systems your primary and your failover right your backup and that's those are gonna be my recommendations that's what I'm gonna do that's what I have done I'm discontinuing viral but I have the latest images already those are the images I'm going to use going forward so thanks everyone for for supporting the stream for being here for your interactions yes you're very welcome be be sick happy to do it this was an unbiased I have no affiliation with anybody this is a very unbiased my unbiased opinion but that is how we're going to sort of wrap it up I'm going to get back to studying for the writ and we need some lunch get back to studying for the written and we're gonna leave it here guys thanks again if you haven't yet please follow us here on Twitch hit that follow button and also you can follow us on YouTube for all the vod's subscribe to us on youtube and also you follow me on Twitter Instagram discord discord is the main place to go guys and it thanks again for being here happy labbing hope you get all the good bits going forward and as mentor says here lab everyday guys if you can and thanks so much for the support take care folks have a great rest of your weekend I will be vlogging tomorrow so probably round this time you're welcome to visible your welcome to everybody we shall see you back here soon in the lantern restraint
