six helping hands you're nagging the old firm ethics here one of the common conversations we have with guys that are shopping for a new tractor is a conversation about what tires are best for their application we could do a quick walk around our parking lot here and just point out some of the different tires that we have on different tractors give you an idea of what the different options are what the best best application is for each set typically for the most part as we move through different machines the bigger the tractor is the more choices you're going to have in tires so starting in a BX series here kind of the beginnings of a real tractor you've got three options we really only sell typically two of the three the most common tire always being and are for industrial so typically tires are referred to one of two different ways and our number which is a designation of their tread pattern or just whatever the pattern is so our for industrial is an R for tire industrial tread pattern in this case an R for tire typically is the most expensive tire option you're going to find on any tractor because they're the most rugged and have the most rubber in the physical tire so an hour for tire is going to have a heavier sidewall and a little bit more cleat to it than what a turf tire would be x-series tractors this is what we sell about 90% of the time because this tire gives you enough cleat in order to work in snow and dirt and have some traction but isn't so aggressive that if you go when you turn and you mow with your tractor that you're going to tear your grass up yes if you put any tractor before driving go do donuts with it you could tell your grass up but this is aggressive enough for work and friendly enough for turf so our fours are very very popular on all the tractors that we sell one of the BX is the other option that we usually will use would be a turf tire much like the turf tire that you would see on any lawn tractor except these are a little bit bigger and have a little bit more chunk and more cleat to them than what a typical turf tire would so this right here turf and turf's are called an r3 tire there is also another tire option as well called an r1 an agricultural tread tire or a bar tread tire on the x-series tractors there is a bar tread tire available but for us it's very very uncommon we hardly ever sell them because they're simply too aggressive for any kind of mowing and turf application as we move up we're going to get more options right so we've got a B series tractor over here these serious machines are going to have an option for turf they're going to have an option for our--for they're going to have an option for egg but they also have a unique option which is this tire right here which is called a bar turf this has bars on it much like an r1 tire would but rather than going across the tire they zigzag around the tire we've got some guys that are really fans of it but we don't sell a lot of them but the ones that are out there people tend to be pretty happy with for their ability to clean out because there's large cleats on them and because of the locations our layout of the bars it is a tire that you can actually mow with this is also typically paired with a traditional turf tire up on the front so you can think of the bar turf as kind of a compromise between a turf tire and an AR for industrial tire so we keep on moving through the rest of the parking lot here we've got an L Series machine over here which is the first tractor that we typically sell with a true agricultural tractor tire on it our one tires or AG tires are going to have the biggest bars in the deepest tread of all of our tire options and it is made for dirt work obviously this is not a tire that you want to go drive across your lawn interestingly too these are the cheapest of the tire options and are for industrial or turf tire will be more expensive than what an r1 AG tire is and that's largely because there's the least amount of physical rubber in this tire then compared to the other options so when you see like price leader type tractors marketed out there oftentimes it's with this tire on it because there's several hundred dollars less expensive than the much more popular or four tire is in this size machine these would be what's called a bias ply tire when we get up into the real farm tractors and the bigger machines you're going to have options of either bias ply tires or radial tires the significant cost differences can be found when we get into tires of this size right and when we get into a machine this em series right here we're going to get options and not just the ply of the tires whether it's a bias or radial the height of the tire but also the type of rims as well so M series machines can have eight and ten different options for the tire tread pattern on that tractor so of all those things to discuss first bias a radial most of the tires that are typically sold on these trackers are usually bias ply tires bias plies are a little bit less expensive than radial tires are and it's because of the way the belting and stuff is done on the inside of the tire radials are going to be more expensive and they are preferred in a real production agricultural tillage pulling type application and the reason for that is you could take a bias tire and run it in a lower air pressure without the tire popping off the rim the goal of doing that is that when a tire is fully inflated typically about two of the bars and the tread are actually down in the dirt when you take a radial tire and you start dropping the tire pressure down you can get a larger contact patch on the ground and get a third lug down into the dirt really improving the tractors traction those radials often will wear a little bit better too than what a bias ply will so a radial is definitely your highest performance tire but is significantly more expensive than what a bias ply would be the other piece that we look at here on the tire and an M series machine is the type of rim that's used we've talked before in other videos about the importance of ballasting a tractor for your application right having a heavy tractor is one thing but really it's more important to be ballasted properly for the application that you're doing so in a tractor like this that would go in and say a mowing application where you don't want weight on the machines you don't need extra ballast in the back of the tractor or a hanging application and those kinds of things steel rims would normally be used like this and this is just a typical rim not a cheap rim at all it still has different positions in it for adjusting your wheels in and out but not as expensive as the cast alternative which I can show you over here the reason why we often use cast rims is going back to that ballasting for your application right if you're going to be doing loader work you know you need several hundred pounds behind the tractor to offset the lift capacity of that loader so oftentimes for loader tractors we're ordering them in with calf rims on them to get us several hundred pounds of additional ballast in the back of the tractor and this is one right here you could see a good deep tread tire on the outside but notice the difference here in the rim right rather than having that steel dish on the inside this whole middle of the rim here is a whole huge hunk of cast iron basically giving you that extra hundred pounds several hundred pounds of ballast behind the tractor to offset those implements so those are kind of a quick run-through on the different tire options like I said is you get into bigger tractors you get a lot more options and typically you're going to put a lot more thought into having the right tire for your application versus the smaller machines if you're looking for anything in the B XBRL series for us our four tires are 90% of our sales for the most part because it gives the best compromise between performance and friendly it's on turf and of Tarpon modeling application you look at protractor like this so we can help you give us a call of ethics or available at 800 to
