korea vlog pt.1 : SEOUL | shopping, food, cafes, BTS concert(?)

hello my friends its Nina and I went to South Korea for a few weeks from October to November of 2019 I'm korean-american but I was born in America and this would be my first time going to Korea there will be two parts to my vlogs because we did a lot I'll be showing you all the places I went to and things I saw and did and of course more details will be in the description but without further ado welcome to part 1 Seoul we're going to Korea today I can't really talk with this on I'm leaving for the airport really soon I don't think I'm going to film so much today just because it's going to just be a flight so it might be clips here and there but I think we're just going to skip over to when I'm actually in Korea I'm gonna leave in about 20 minutes I'll see you in Korea we headed over to SFO early in the morning for our flights in the afternoon our flight was at 1 p.m. and after 12 hours we would arrive in Incheon at around 5 p.m. local time this was my first time flying out of the country and I was a little nervous but also excited we sat in the very back like literally the last row but it was nice because there were no seats behind me and no one could kick me during my sleep I had the vegetarian option for food in Korean air which is the airline we took and I think the food was decent I tried figuring out what to do during went 12 hours in the air but I ended up watching a lot of fan cams I downloaded and a bunch of kpop reality shows sometimes it got uncomfy but since we were in the back I just stretched my legs from time to time and before I knew it's 12 hours flew by and we made it to Korea by the way I went to Korea with my mom because I wanted to bring her back to her home since it's been two years for her and personally I wanted a buddy and someone who could translate for me and help me get around after arriving to Incheon Airport we took a bus to Seoul and so with the our time capsule good morning and welcome to our first day jetlag did not completely kick my butt because I stayed awake until 9 p.m. after landing and woke up at a regular 7 a.m. we went to calm down record because I've heard a lot about it and we were hungry it's a popular place for tourists and locals but so began my dilemma for me to find food as a pescetarian it's not hard to find food for pescetarians or vegetarians but I also wanted my mom to eat whatever she wanted as well we had tuk boogie and Maya Kim file which are both popular common street foods but I was also surprised that this booth had kimchi dumplings without meat in them I rarely get to eat Korean dumplings I was really excited we also got a Mook and my mom got some day which I used to love as a kid but now I don't eat the kimchi dumpling was delicious and I just really missed eating you can't eat dumpling next we walked a little bit and found the tahm Kench on the stream we walked around some more and unfortunately I didn't remember where we were so I don't remember the name of this cafe which really sucks because the drinks were really good I don't the name of this drink and I'm really mad about it because it was a really good drink but anyway we eventually made our way towards Myeongdong which is known for its shopping and we found a little line friend's store we looked around and I actually needed a little phone ring holder so I got a cute coil one also my mom is cookie biased and then later on we just hopped into another cafe for refreshments and that was basically our first day hello I'm in the bathroom because it's better lighting anyway hello it is is it Friday I'm actually not sure what day it is okay so it's Thursday so it's Thursday here in Korea today's plan is I'm going to Yonsei University I don't go there but my friend is studying abroad so I'm going to see her my mom is currently out she has plans of her own so today's kind of a solo day but also nuts all the day cuz I'm meeting my friend I'm not really sure where Yonsei University is but my friend says it's close to home day so hopefully I'll see home did today anyway I should stop talking I'm going to see you at yonce [Music] we don't catch a sale so I took a taxi straight to Johnson University I also could have taken the subway too but for now I just thought that a taxi was convenient I would meet up with my friend Alison who I met when I was a student at UC Berkeley she's studying abroad in Korea so of course I wanted to see her she had a class so I just sat in the lecture with her so I could feel like I'm back in college even though sometimes I'm his college sitting in the lecture reminded me that I'm glad that I graduated and ended it after we went to their dining hall cafeteria and we got through there I got a whole Phoebe buff for like 3000 won another thing about college is all the walking and scenery and reminded me a lot how many time I UC Berkeley a lot of walking then eventually Alison had a midterm that she had to take so I dropped her off in her class while I hung out with myself for about two hours I just decided to read a book here is the book that I'm reading then I decided to go out for some fresh air and admire the campus and the scenery ISIL after Alison finished her midterm we walk through each one and made our way towards finding the nightlife in Seoul is so vibrant and there was a lot of busking going on in home day which was fun to see we went to object in-home day which is a store full of products from independent artists there are lots of stationery accessories apparel books scenes and other cute things I didn't end up buying anything from the first time I went but later on I did come back to pick up a bunch of watched Eve's and sticker sheets that you see in the hall soon don't worry that was pretty much it for this day but there's so much to do at home there so I definitely recommend it for you guys [Music] hello my mom is currently getting ready we are going to your nuns oh I know that it's like a hit play so there's a cafe that I really want to go to I think it's the 2d 3d 2d cafe I'll just have a good time there Labiche is my outfit I think I might tie my hair up just because I showered and my hair is very thick the jewelry and the coat is from yesterday I like did these pants and then this turn next from I guess tile as well I'm also wearing boobs hopefully I don't get tired walking in these so I tied my hair I think it looks good with the office this is the fit I'm a little out of my mind because I haven't eaten proper food in a while I will just see you in the restaurant I'm kind of in the mood for a joke or something warm so we walked a bit and found a porridge / soup place choucas porridge in Korean and chook restaurants are actually very common in Korea you'll find one every other block or so but instead of Chuuk I actually opted for da kook just because the waitress said there to cook was vegetable-based [Music] afterwards we went to a nearby cafe for refreshments Kew cafes are also very common in Korea and are literally everywhere and this one is called cafe Okada I got an iced americano and my mom got a green grape juice the americano was great and the grape juice was great as well but I don't I don't know why I always make that face when I try things but I promise it's good even though I make that face it's supposed to be like a refreshing face but it doesn't translate well we also had a red bean rice cake which was also good next we ended up at the Seoul World Cup Stadium just because the taxi driver recommended it and it was close to Yanam dome there's a place with a great view that you can reach by either climbing up 200 to 300 steps or there's also a little shuttle available after like 5 to 10 minutes of walking up a lot of steps and being out of breath you get a beautiful view of Seoul which was all definitely worth it [Music] we eventually made it to yon undoing and there was the famous 2d drawing cafe that I heard about and wanted to go to but of course there was a line so I just looked through the windows to get a good look at it and then we went to another cafe this one is called Sheep to Toshi and it is known for its chocolate desserts and drinks my mom got an iced americano and I got an Amiga 8 and then we also shared each of the cake which was really good it wasn't too sweet and it was moist we walked around a bit and also bought some tangerines kuzhambu a little that's left laughing this is our whole next we did some shopping at the boutiques here there are so many cute boutiques in Korea I really miss it we ended up buying a few things from this one called Bora Bora and the shopkeeper had a beautiful Sheba that caught my attention the shopkeepers were also very nice and helpful which I liked about small boutiques it was like a conversational friendly experience we ended the day with convenience takeout delivery and that was pretty much it the next day we headed over to come down to go to the well-known star field COEX mall you can get lots of shopping done here but I particularly wanted to see the starfield library which is the huge library you see all over social media it was so big I don't even know how people know where to begin with looking for books but it was nice to see in real life also SMTOWN echo exordium is located right next to the mall if you're interested unfortunately I didn't get to go also I saw this BTS advertisement at the mall I had to get a shot with them of course and speaking of BTS there speak yourself finale in Seoul was happening for the love yourself tour and unfortunately I didn't have tickets but apparently you get goodies and stuff at the venue anyway so for fun my mom and I decided to go around even though we didn't have tickets my heart hurt world's smallest violin I know okay so it ended up kind of hurting so we just left up there like ten minutes but I did get one photo card that I'll show you guys in a hall but hey at least we did get to see some BTS related stuff there we went back to our hotel to relax a little and then we went back out to go to Lotte World Tower in Mall oh my god I suddenly have hiccups at the worst time oh my hiccups are deadly I don't know how to stop my hiccups either I tried drinking liquid it's not working no my hiccups have stopped yes touching the top of the tower my allergies have been killing me this entire trip I love Korea but I'm allergic to it and then somehow we ended up back at the concerts wow they're performing on come in I hear them this is so weird oh there they are so basically since we don't have tickets we can't go in but we can still hear from outside so let me to him [Music] Oh even though we weren't inside the concert it was still a good experiencing it from the outside and since I have been to two shows from the tour I could kind of imagine what was going on inside and experiencing it outside with other armies was also nice also these freaking drones were so cool we still got to sing along to his songs and we ended the nights with pretty fireworks the next day was kind of quick we had a late start so my mom and I just decided to take the subway to home dead to do some late night shopping and looking around and also the Starbucks in Korea have really great drinks we did some shopping underground in the subway station shops this one is red eye which is a popular brand with shops all over Korea I did end up getting some stuff from here and then I spotted a chongo poster while we're looking for a taxi another thing I loved about Seoul justkeep hop everywhere and that is it for this day okay you guys so I have a confession to make there is a plot twist to this video so we already saw that I didn't have BTS tickets for the concert and that was true I did not have tickets for any of the shows in Seoul I came to Korea knowing I wouldn't go to the concerts but my mom is also a fan of BTS and she was determined to look for tickets to the last second I personally give up but without me knowing she was on Twitter and social media looking for tickets until she finally found two we wouldn't be together but we were okay with that and that's actually why on this day I said we had a late start and that's because before this we went to get tickets at the stadium with the people that we got tickets from we had to be there with them and I actually became friends with the person that I got tickets from and she gave me all these BTS goodies so plot twist we did end up going to the final show of the tour and that's what you're about to see so here is a speaker self final show in Seoul enjoy [Music] you [Music] okay let's remember that I didn't think I was going to this concert so I didn't think I was going to add concert footage to this vlog I want to apologize to hos dr. Nguyen and taeyoung for not recording their solo performances I was in the moment and I forgot to record but I did watch them well they did great I also thought about meeting all these concepts but it's just it doesn't hit the same so here we go enjoy the concert prepare your ears it's going to be a little loud and also there are longer versions of the videos available on my Instagram highlights okay three let's go [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and that was my experience at the speak yourself final in Seoul they love yourself era and torments a lot to me for the last year and I'm thankful that I was able to see it begin and and and I hope that you guys got to experience it as well with me but the day after the concert we were basically wrecked so we had another late day we decided to do a little late night shopping at Kingdom moon we went to mediodía dong the moon which is basically this giant shopping center full of trendy clothes it's just clothes literally everywhere every nook and cranny and this place opens till 4:30 a.m. it's kind of like almost 24 hours it's just one of those places that stays up late at night and there's so much clothes to choose from I actually bought a lot of clothes from here we shopped until 1:00 a.m. and got late-night snacks I never eat this late but there's definitely a culture of late-night eating here in Korea I told myself that it's okay to eat this Lee [Music] we just checked out of our hotel we're going to do Sun today but right now we're going to come down because we have time until tonight for the Train I'll just see you there so this was our last day in Seoul for now we were going to Busan later at night for a few days then we would return to Seoul which will all be in part two we went to come them to look around and attempt to go to the house of BTS pop-up store we looked around and went into a restaurant and to scottson and here is our failed attempt to go to the house of idiots it was our fault we went too late it was around a 3 p.m. already and back then there wasn't awaiting registration things so the wait was like 2 to 3 hours and we didn't have that time it was all just bad timing so unfortunately I didn't have any time to go to a store during my time in Korea but I did learn that the best time to go is on a weekday in the evening or really early there's this whole waiting registration thing now so I don't even know but it's ok I don't need to go it's fine but instead we went to a dog cafe that Chun Kuk went to back in 2016 which is located right here in Kona he went here when he was on celebrity bromance with me new Oshima and that was the area where he said to be got iced Americanos and complimentary candy because it was Halloween and the dogs here were so adorable just enjoy these clips of me with dogs [Music] and of course I had to sit where he sat I sense this energy I've always wanted to go to a dog cafe in Korea so this was just a great time one of the dogs kept scratching my leg and wanting to sit on my lap and it just reminded me a lot of my dogs at home it was a very cute dog also my mom told me it's a celebrities dog the dog smelled very nice I said than me it was a great experience eventually we made our way over to Seoul station to take a train to Busan yes a train to Busan [Music] [Music] this train is very fast so we did get there in two hours after finally arriving to Busan at 10:00 p.m. we got a luggage like goodbye to the train and made our way to our hotel through a taxi oh my god bridge of chi yoga ku Beach is the beach oh not to make I want to see the Sun Rise and that was part one of my Korea vlog I hope you guys enjoyed what has happened so far there is so much more that happens in the other half of my time in Korea I'm giving you guys a hug through the screen thank you for watching and I will see you in for two
