[Music] my [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we stand in prayer with jews all over the world as a family and particularly those who could not be with us at home lockdowns but i'm glad that so many of you who were able to come in person on this sacred night here at parque synagogue the prayer we're offering shimakolenu adonai eloheinu who's [Music] new hear us hashem our god pity and be compassionate to us and accept our prayers only yes accept our prayers we are grateful having survived this pandemic year we're grateful as new yorkers having survived 911 we're grateful and thank god just for being here alive yom kippur is known as the day of atonement to be at one with god at one man and with man so before we start the service we've asked god for forgiveness yes for sins transgressions omission and we pledge again in shiva to return to him and his ways but god is very easy forgiving and loving much more difficult between man and man so even though we have the restriction you don't have to shake hands with your neighbor but look into your neighbor's eyes whether it's a family member or friend or relative and say if i hurt you if i did anything wrong please forgive me god is very forgiving man woman are carrying grudges seek revenge and that's not the way to prepare for a new year beginning last year we made promises to ourselves and to god think about it in terms of the introspection and reflection on this sacred night have i fulfilled all the promises that i made to myself to the jewish people to israel to humanity have i made sure that god's torah values of love of love your neighbor of compassion of kindness of goodness also instilled in our children and children's children and if there were shortcomings now is the time to make a commitment we're not going to quit go the same way we did until now we will reset a new course a new promise that will have to be fulfilled as a people connor proves that i'm israel high forced to convert to christianity in 1492 the inquisition yet they did not give up the spintley their jewish loyalty yes they remained heart and soul with our people our greatest challenge this year is really the next generation particularly in the most important jewish community in the world outside israel the united states but we're losing through assimilation not through anti-semitism through assimilation using young men and women who couldn't care less about their heritage for being fed anti-god secularist ways that has to be corrected can you imagine how times have changed harvard university chief jewish chaplain proclaims himself to be an atheist and you find that one out of four young jews have no affiliation with a synagogue a jewish community we follow the same lead as the catholics and protestants they're also losing but above all what we need particularly in these difficult times faith faith faith gives us anchor and hope not fear when we are afraid afraid of covet afraid of anti-semitism so many things we are afraid of hold on hold on to that anchor the torah that's exactly what we have been doing at synagogue not only the dorbador from generation the generation but we made sure that there is a generation that is a proud zionist that has an understanding what it means about israel how about errors israel so the cardinal principle is again called israel arabian zealots solidarity we are responsible for one another in that spirit when you are offered stacca which is really a vehicle for a favorable response to be sealed in the book of life do not fail support but generously support parque synagogue has done and will be doing in the service of the jewish community israel and all of humanity two major challenges facing world jewry anti-semitism widespread including right here in our own midst not only in pittsburgh not only in brooklyn right here in manhattan remember we have the director of the fbi for new york police commissioner they told us the increase in anti-semitic crimes the other challenge is facing israel and the free world iran within a month will have a nuclear bomb for the first time how do we carry on that requires jewish solidarity an american jury can play a very important role here i can tell you how many heads of states foreign ministers are going to visit leaders of the jewish community right here at parque synagogue meeting with the russian foreign minister across the street chance of austria courts a great friend of israel the jewish people again here the chinese ambassador we need allies allies but on a very hopeful note just as family feuds end eventually conflict between nations and eventually and so we have to work together both in terms of our family relationships that may have been severed broken repair repair repair and the same thing between nations it can be done look at the scene today germany with all the suffering of the holocaust a new generation a great ally of israel today in france that required emancipation by napoleon again defending the rights of jews look at what's happening in the abrahamic accord bahrain morocco united arab emirate so we have hope that every conflict if you have the faith if you have the amuna comes to an end and that has to be taught to the younger generation we're doing it with your help and therefore god is going to seal you in the safe harahaim and fulfill your dreams and good wishes for good i'd like to conclude with the prayer avenue father our king remember your compassion is oppressing your anger remove pestilence and sword famine and plunder destruction and iniquity plague and misfortune all disease of obstruction all persecution and basis enmity from us and from all your people of the covenant and let us all say amen yes we say to hashem foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] r [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] me [Music] my [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] friends tomorrow at the score memorial service we remember our ancestors our parents our loved ones who were taken back by the lord yes we remember his score because we can learn from that experience life is a journey and every human being has limited duration to do god's work on this earth that's why you and i were placed on this earth not just to exist to contribute and you have done that not only as human beings as jews that's why you remember you remember not only close relatives you remember the holocaust you remember all the martyrs throughout the ages but above all with the determination that you will leave a legacy a legacy of work may be not completed but handed down to your children and grandchildren that will be your greatest legacy ask yourself the question how will i be remembered will i remembered for my love for family for friends will i be remembered for contributing to kedush hashem for sanctifying god's name whether it's in a profession whether it's in business always bearing in mind as a jew and jewish you are held accountable for the destiny of the jewish people and if you remember that i know that your loved ones will pray for you in heaven and will inspire you to work that will result in a glorious legacy of the contribution you've made to army soil remember you score remember to remember [Laughter] me [Music] [Music] oh [Music] r [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
