shanato valmik markhatimatova welcome to congregation sheri zedek located in the beautiful prairies of manitoba canada we're in the city of winnipeg uh it's 6 18 p.m central time if you if you're curious if you are tuning in from who knows where because i know we have people from all over the world tuning in to our services and we are so honored that you have chosen congregation sheriff's edica's your spiritual home for the high holidays and many of you for all year round so thank you for being here thank you so much for letting us into your homes and i hope that whenever we have the opportunity to open up so people will start coming back in person you will have the opportunity to come visit say hello and we can share a hug and and celebrate many occasions together in the near future so we're about to begin with the uh call nidre service itself this is always a special time of the year a time of the year that many are looking forward it's a it's a an amazing spiritual opportunity that we have year after year and i want to share with you something that actually i i didn't realize that it was going to have that kind of repercussion this morning i was interviewed by ctv ctv news and i made an analogy that i i got some comments i said people love that analogy so i want to say it again for you i was saying that the problem that we have is that god is sharing god's light with us illuminating our lives all year round but the problem is that every time we make a mistake every time we transgress every time we sin we add some layer of separation between us and god and i was saying that this is like when you have a window in between the light that comes from the sun and your home right if you don't clean the window eventually dirt is going to start accumulating at the beginning you won't even notice it but eventually it's going to be so dark that you're going to start struggling moving inside your house because you won't be able to see properly everything that is around and you know when you cannot see things then you can stumble you can fall so all you have to do is to go clean the window and then you will have the beautiful light coming into your home again so this is our spiritual life is exactly the same we have this beautiful light coming from god but our transgression added all that dirt in between ourselves and god and yom kippur is the opportunity that we have year after years to clean that up and to rebuild this relationship with god to get closer to god so we can once again receive all that beautiful light coming from god to fill up our souls to fill up our lives yom kippur starts with a corny dre prayer we have something very special for uh year after year for the conigue there is the opportunity to have michelle moore and yuri hooker to play a beautiful composite composition of the call nidre written by max brooke so let me tell you about them first about durian michelle and then i will tell you a little bit about who max brooke was and what was his intention what he composed this called nidra michelle moore he's an award-winning conductor pianist and music teacher at the royal winnipeg ballet school she's a conductor of the gilbert and sullivan society of winnipeg she was conducted in residence of the winnipeg symphony orchestra under the direction of maestro andrei boraco michelle was artistic director of the brandon chamber players and she has guests conducted symphonies across north america she accompanies and coaches instrumental players and singers and she also teaches piano music history and theory now yuri hooker has been the long longtime principal cellist of the winnipeg symphony orchestra 20 years over 20 years ready words used to describe his playing are passionate soulful sublime he has played for many years with the winnipeg chamber music society and the clear water string quartet yuri was formerly principal chalice with the manitoba chamber orchestra and he's a strong advocate of new music also an inspiring and dedicated teacher and founder and director of winnipeg summer cello institute he founded in 2007. now let me tell you about the call nidre opus 47 by max bro this is a composition that was originally written for cello and orchestra and it was later on adapted for chelon piano max brook was a german romantic composer who lived between the years 1838 and 1920 and he wrote this particular particular corny dre in 1880 in the letter in 1889 brooke wrote and i quote i became acquainted with colony dre and a few other songs in berlin through the lichenstein family who befriended me even though i am a pro a protestant as an artist i deeply felt the outstanding beauty of these melodies and therefore i gladly spread them through my arrangement as brook indicated in his letter he himself did not consider his call nidre to be a jewish composition but just as an artistic arrangement of the folk tune so the brook his core nidra was just one of many arrangements he made of european folk songs and this is also another part of his letter where he says as a young man i had already studied folk songs of all nations with great enthusiasm because the fox song is the source of all true melodics true melodics a well spring at which one must repeatedly renew and refresh oneself if one doesn't admit to the absurd belief of a certain party the melody is an outdated view so let the study of jewish ethnic music on my path now about the league samsung family cantor abraham jacob lichtenstein was cantor in chief of berlin he was known to have been friendly relationship with any christian musicians of the time the conductor of his choir was none other than luis lewandowski which we use many of his compositions as well now uh about the colony ray itself i'm gonna talk a little bit more after this beautiful performance once we go into the formal part of the service but for now i know many of you are just connecting getting comfortable at home preparing yourself for the spiritual experience of kol nidra and yom kippur so i would like to invite you all sit down relax and enjoy this beautiful interpretation of corny dre by max brooke interp in in the music michelle moore and jerry hooker [Music] [Music] ah [Music] um [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] ah [Music] hmm hey [Music] hmm [Music] ah [Music] ah [Music] hey [Music] hmm uh foreign [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] oh [Music] um [Music] hey [Music] yes [Music] me [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] beautiful thank you so much that was absolutely amazing i can't think of any better way to start the yom kippur fault song that is a very a spiritual experience just all by itself and you know in the synagogue when somebody does something here in this stage we say the usher koya which means uh may god preserve and increase your strength so we can enjoy the two of you again next year thank you so much and this is an opportunity now to welcome again everyone on the on the stream we are congregation charizardic from winnipeg manitoba canada and let's move things around we are going to leave the chair there for the we are going to need it at the end of the service welcome everyone great pleasure thank you for again thank you for choosing share aesthetic as your spiritual home we are so pleased to provide this service totally open and totally free and it's our gift to you it's if if you enjoy the service and you enjoy everything that we do all we ask is we consider making a donation to the synagogue to support everything that we do so we can keep bringing great stuff your way we go live every week every day actually twice a week we upload wonderful classes and so many other things and we're about to begin with the formal part of the cornidre service and meanwhile we also welcome the sheriff's zedek quartet justin artwork john anderson paul magurel and kiera krasnick thank you thank you for being here and accompany stephen cox welcome guys uh marvin polanski are you visual director in control of everything and our cantor leslie emery's here hi leslie hi shalom shalom and bill weisman was here early if you miss him he was leading uh the minka service bill ester shamis here almost every day so nobody knows sheriff better than bill weisman so before we do the call nidre we have a beautiful tradition in yom kippur and this is the only evening service of the year that we actually wear the talit that's why i haven't put on my talit yet the tradition of sheriff's edict is that we hold it a little longer so we can all do it together so if you have the talit at home if you're ready the blessing it's all good but if you haven't get your talit right now and we are going to say the blessing and put it on together it and we have another beautiful tradition on the yom kippur which is to bless our children before we go to synagogue uh that is not going to synagogue this year we are all in synagogue wherever you are but still beautiful to bless our children so if you happen to have your children next to you i will invite you first to put a hand on top of your voice if they are not with you maybe they are in the zoom next to you so i've heard some people that they watch all together look at them if you have a picture maybe look at the picture and use telepathic power to bless them and we say to the boys god bless you like god blessed ephraim and minassi and now we bless the girls so you put a hand on top of your girl's head and you say yes [Music] may god bless you like the matriarchs of israel sarah rebecca rachel aleah may the lord bless you and protect you may the lord show your kindness and be gracious to you may the lord bestow favor upon you and grant you peace of mind amen [Music] and we're about to begin with the cornidre i believe that the the core nidre is one of the most misunderstood prayers of the ear it's not that you can go around and do whatever you want and then you come to cornidre you sing it three times and that's it well if if that's what you thought about the cornelium sorry to disappoint that is not what it is about cornidrea will say is a reminder on how important vows promises in general our word are worked how important our word it is after all now for 25 hours 25 hours almost yeah we're going to go on prayers we're going to ask things to god we're going to promise things to god well you if you're about to ask things to god promise things to god maybe promise things towards yourself don't you think you have to first understand that the words have a value that whatever you say is not something empty what you say matters but that's a corny dray condition is a reminder that what you say even though you will you may have ways to undo what you what what you say by mistake nevertheless you have to be very careful of the way you use the language something that it's been a little bit forgotten in the 21st century right it's very common to say but i see you tomorrow no most likely you won't i won't see you tomorrow but we say see you tomorrow but because the words don't mean much they're just phrases empty phrases that we repeat without understanding what we are saying calling idre is an opportunity to understand that what we say matters what we promise matters if you promise something to someone maybe that person is now counting on you so we have to understand that before we even start the yom kippur day i would like to invite you to open your max rim on page 185 the coordinator is going to be sunk three times we're going to do uh two twice is going to be designed with the traditional melody that we are all used to here at the charizard and the third time we're going to switch to a more modern interpretation that it was already introduced last year so it should be somehow traditional but at least some of you so uh i would like to invite bill weissman bonnie robinson is here to help us well we're going to open the ark and to take two scrolls of the torah that they are going to be standing next to leslie emery and me the two scrolls of torah are going to be our witnesses as we recite the corny trey [Music] page 185 bishiva shalmala [Music] a [Music] no [Music] in the court of valve and the court below with the knowledge of god's presence and the congregation we authorize prayer with the transgressors [Music] [Music] [Music] page 186 every kind of ritual one prohibition which we vow and promise and ban employ and prohibit for ourselves from this yom kippur to the next yom kippur may come to us for good we regret them all let them all be allowed abandoned cancelled not avoid not binding inoperative the vows are no vowels and the bands are no ban and the promises are no promises corny dre page 186. [Music] hey [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] good day is [Music] is [Music] [Music] god [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] only [Music] me mistake finished page 187 [Music] is [Music] [Music] oh [Music] oh forgive these people's sin according to the greatness of your grace and as you bore these people from egypt to here and there is what said [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] god said i have forgiven as you said it's time to recite together in the bottom of page 187 the anu this blessing where we thank god because god gave us another year and here we are alive reciting the cornedre and asking god for another opportunity so we can start a wonderful new year 57 82 so let's thank god together with the words of shaykh yanu bottom of what else we have to announce something tomorrow morning service is going to be at what time i better make sure i don't want to say the wrong thing i don't want to be late me neither tomorrow morning 9 30 9 30 a.m tomorrow morning i hope we're going to have you all there again so that was a great start for the cornelius service they said this is a beautiful way to begin realizing every word counts and now that we understand the power of the words it's time to begin with the motive service i would like to invite you all to turn to page 193 and there we have the bar who sometimes we call it the call to worship but it's actually our opportunity to bless the name of god the source of all blessing isn't that beautiful isn't that beautiful that god blesses us every day of our lives but when we come to that to this prayer we have the opportunity to return the favor and to bless the name of god this is a teaching opportunity for all of us that every blessing that comes your way don't keep it there share it with others believe me god is blessing you is because god wants you to bless someone else isn't that funny sometimes we pray to god to solve somebody else's problem but the solution is in our hands sometimes the answer to that prayer is within our reach so this is a reminder barhu page 193 please rise [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] you may be seated we continue silently through the second half of page 193 as we approach um [Music] [Music] please join us la [Music] [Music] 194 we have the second blessing before the shema israel and actually this is the only time in the year that we are going to say not only the shema israel but also the line that comes after the shema israel which during the year we say silently the words baduch vote blessed is god's name the glory of those reigns last forever will we say it quietly but yom we say it out loud out loud because we are crowning god king of the universe page 194 and immediately after page 195 israel [Music] here foreign hi [Music] [Music] 195 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] please continue silently with the recitation of the israel hebrew or english until the end of page 198 uh [Music] my [Music] on page 199 we're about to recite the powerful words of me hamocha mikha mohavedonai who is like you oh god this is this is so powerful this is so powerful when we realize that god is in control sometimes we we complain about so many things that we have but uh when i recite the words of the mikha mohai i can hear the voice of god they said i've got you i've got you and i can't think of too many people this world that the word i got you it's a certainty because at the end of the day sometimes we get disappointed by people but we have the promise that god is always always there for us and that's what we say out loud there is no one no one no power no person no money nothing like you oh god 199. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] ah [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] is just a quick reminder you can download the maxor that we are using tonight www.nzwinnipeg.ca slash book and it's there for a pdf format you can read it on screen or you can also download the file to your device page 200 bottom of the page [Music] is [Music] [Music] page 201 there is something very interesting here bottom of the page for on this cleansing day you are delivered you be cleansed of all your sins to god you shall be clean this is taken from the book of leviticus this is actually the description of yom kippur in the book of leviticus uh and this is so misleading because if you go and read that the first impression you're going to have is that this is an automatic thing you reach yom kippur poof everything you're you're clean there is nothing you have to do but that's why we rely on torah but we also rely on oral torah which is the explanation of the torah and the rabbis say that no yes yom kippur is a day of atonement day of cleansing but we have to play our part if we did something wrong to someone we have to go and try to repair that broken relationship with god it's a little easier god will forgive us as soon as we say god forgive me but if you did something wrong to somebody else nobody else can do it for you prayer alone is not enough it's not enough so let this verse from the book of leviticus and encouragement and encouragement to do whatever we have to do to repair every broken relationship in our lives please rise bottom of page 202 by yom jase [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] oh foreign [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] [Music] [Applause] man [Music] please remain standing for the amidah from pages 203 until page 224 this is special amidah because now we start incorporating the vidui now is when we start confessing our transgressions our sins so it's a very important part of the service this is the first time for many that we are going to go into that process so my invitation for you is to recite the immediate which is silent in english or in hebrew but if you prefer please by all means use your own words of prayer the most important thing of this part of the amidah is to find our strong connection with our creator this is an opportunity we have to have a private audience with the creator of the world let's take let's take the next few minutes to continue in silent prayer we're going to continue now with a misha barach prayer a prayer for healing throughout the pandemic we have included a misha barach prayer morning and evening at our services if you do know someone in need of healing you can type their name at this time through the chat you can hold their name in your heart while we dabbing together [Music] please join us in debbie friedman's mischa barack prayer meshes [Music] may the source of strength who bless the ones before us help us find the courage to make our lives a blessing and let us say [Music] the renewal of body the renewal of spirit and let us say [Music] may those in need of healing be in a better state of health soon amen amen we're about to continue now with the order of the service i would like to invite everyone to turn to page 227 we have beautiful beautiful prayer not just the not just the content of the prayer but the the melody melody that we use it's a beautiful composition for cantor's main counter mayor finkelstein and it's going to be sung for us by justin odwig and mal magurel they've been singing this together for a while and actually you can feel the chemistry when they sing it together it's a beautiful beautiful combination of the two voices so i would like to invite everyone to rise as the ark is open turn to page 227 for our prayers to rise to the throne of god yali page two to seven [Music] me [Music] oh [Music] me [Music] me [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] me [Music] oh [Music] me [Music] there are [Music] [Music] oh [Music] beautiful beautiful the ark is close but we remain standing and one day marvin you have to tell me how you did that i was looking at the stream and it looks like justin and melissa were just singing next to the ark you have to go check the the service afterwards because that was fantastic thank you mark to marvin as well and mal and justin and stephen beautiful beautiful uh it now we're going to continue we have to remain standing for the el melechiochev this is a prayer that for i guess for time reasons was removed in the past but this is just a proof that we do listen to feedback it's a it's a number that many of you voice that you really like and you missed from a repertoire so we are so pleased to bring bring it back and not only because the music is wonder it's beautiful but the the words the words are very very profound page 229 [Music] me [Music] [Applause] [Music] more [Music] hello [Music] [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign page 230. [Music] is [Music] god both merciful and gracious patient and great in kindness and truth ensuring mercy for thousands of generations tolerating sin transgression and wrong and cleansing people of their guild we continue with this middle of page 230 [Music] you may be seated maybe see that we are going to continue now on page 233 with the shimakulenu this is something that the prito shimakolenu hear our voices it's kind of confusing to me because one of the first things that i ever learned about god is god always listens to our prayers god is always there in fact i was always encouraged you can pray to god god is always listening to you so what does it mean schmakolenu isn't god already listening to our voices and the answer is yes god is always listening to our voices but sometimes we forget that sometimes we believe that we don't deserve to be in the presence of god we don't deserve god paying attention to whatever we have to say so we need to pray like shimakulenu to understand that god is always listening no matter what because that's why you're here you're here to make amends you're here to pledge a new life you are here to try to do your best to be different in the year 5782 so let's rise once again as we open the ark for the chemical on page 233 hear our voice sovereign god pity us and be merciful to us and with mercy and favor accept our prayer [Music] [Applause] [Music] new [Music] [Music] foreign m [Music] [Music] my [Music] the ark is closed you may be seated now we have something very important in a minute i'm going to invite virtually our brand new executive director ranya kashy who is going to bring us uh a very important message about what we stand here at the sheriff's head but before that actually because i was the one editing the video i had i got to listen to it in advance and i like the take i like the the what he's going what he's saying about how uh the act of giving is a religious act it reminded me actually to uh guess what another joke right but you already know me that's me this was a rabbi who was in an airplane right i guess he used to fly all the time so he was fine so he fell asleep right away uh i guess the the airplane hit a little bit of turbulence and there was a woman next to him she started to get nervous and walk walked the rabbi up he walked him up and they were saying what's going on and the woman said there is turbulence so what what do something what do you want to do well aren't you a rabbi or something do something religious so he did on a high holidays appeal marvin please bring us the message from rambu ryan yukashi good evening i'm honored to speak to you today as the executive director of congregation charizardic in my first direct message to the congregation since beginning my role this past july as we know yom kippur is a holy holiest of the holy days a day that is solomon nature where we seek repentance and forgiveness from sin between ourselves and god and also between ourselves and each other yet yom kippur is also a day of joy this may sound surprising to some but this holy of holy days is also where sins are forgiven and where we begin anew it is where our relationships are renewed and strengthened and where we can go forward from this point onwards with optimism and enthusiasm it's our annual day of second chances that we get time and time again to be better people tomorrow and as rabbi nachman of breast love once famously said if you're not a better person tomorrow than you are today what need have you for tomorrow at the crux of being better people and engaging in true and meaningful repentance we must uphold the values of humility and charity after all we all falter make mistakes say and do things we regret and wish to genuinely make amends for these errors when the holy temple stood in jerusalem various forms of sacrifices were offered for various forms of sins in combination with heartfelt confessions before god however here we learn an important lesson that actions don't always speak louder than words rather actions and words both form a part of meaningful repentance one can't just go through the motions and think it's enough to make a difference put another way our sages taught us that the righteous act of charity itself is greater than the offering of any sacrifice and that one can attain atonement through genuine acts of chesad or loving-kindness and acharya said we take this message to heart our daily work is not only intended to strive towards a lofty goal of acting charitably lovingly and kindly with our members congregants and community as a whole but is entirely reliant on the righteous acts of charity that sustain our synagogue our work and our community as well in my brief time here i've seen the tireless work and dedication of our staff board committees and volunteers i've observed a sincere effort to act with hesed to make the congregation be the best synagogue it can be both today and for future generations to learn from mistakes act with humility and begin anew as the congregation has done for over 130 years so we all seek repentance for the wrongs we have done let's take the time to remember the value of humility charity and acts of khesed which have sustained the congregation and the jewish people from generation to generation let's follow rabbi nachman of breslau's advice to be better people both today and tomorrow shanatova thank you so much ron for that beautiful message and it's a great pleasure to work with you every day and if you were moved by iran's words maybe you were moved by our prayers and but by the programs that we offer we ask that you partner with us so we can keep moving forward and we can become better and bring more great stuff your way so we ask you then whenever you feel comfortable visit www.assetwinnipeg.cashd donate thank you so much for your generosity it's time to continue now with the order of the service as i mentioned before the highlight of the yom kippur liturgy is a confession we confess our sins now it's very interesting we're going to sing it first then i'm going to read the translation but you're going to see there that there are probably many sins mentioned in that list that may not apply to you have you ever thought about that so why would i you know give a knock on my chest and confess for something that i haven't done and this is something that comes from the teachings of the rabbis that the rabbis say that when we get all together and we pray together and we confess together for each other's sins then god is going to judge us together so yeah there may be some things in this list that they don't apply to me but somebody else in this congregation has done something great that i haven't so i get to benefit from their merits so why don't we do it all together let's feel that no matter where you are no matter where you are you could be in winnipeg you could be in europe you can be in south america but right now we are together confessing our sins and because we are together we know that we are going to get a favorable verdict page 235 please rise for the short confession with every phrase we strike every possible transgression and sin in the world but now the next one we take two lines per letter and i believe this is uh this reflects the fact that most of the time transgressions are not something that we do only once and they will rectify it right away sometimes we struggle with certain things for a long time page 236 second half of the page the long confession [Music] for the sin we directors thank you marvin for everything yeah to leslie emery a wonderful country wow that was amazing that was amazing we still have a little bit more but we are going to take a quick break because uh i haven't my message for you in this night of corny dream and again i hope you enjoy the message it's uh completely captioned with subtitles this is something new that we are trying to incorporate as much as we can in everything we do here at the sheriff's edict so everybody can understand this important message that i hope is going to encourage you i hope is going to encourage you that be a little bit better prepared to have a more meaningful 57 please a rabbi in the late 1930s fled germany he sold all his assets converted to gold and then had five sets of solid gold false teeth made when he arrived in toronto the customs officer was confused as to why anybody will have five sets of gold teeth so the rawai explained we religious jews have two separate sets of dishes one from it one for dairy but i am so religious that i also have separate sets of teeth the customs officers shook his head and said well that accounts for two sets of teeth what about the other three the rabbi then said well well well religious jews need separate dishes for passover but i am so religious that i have separate teeth one for meat one for dairy during passover the customs officer couldn't believe it and then he said you must be a very religious man with separate teeth for food that is meat and dairy and then also for passover well but that accounts for four sets of teeth what about the fifth set well to tell you the truth once in a while i like to order chinese i want to talk to you today about fearless planning and i hope my rosh hashanah message inspire you to go easy on yourselves realizing that nobody is perfect now that doesn't mean that we shouldn't do our best to give a 100 there is a very famous saying from pirkei avot also called the ethic of our fathers in chapter two mishna number 16 where rabbi tarfan said is not up to you to finish the task but you are not free to avoid it understanding that we are not perfect should help us control the fear of failure not stop us from trying to improve after all we all make mistakes if you never made a mistake you probably never made anything you can't let the fear of failure or the fear of criticism keep you from trying again this year the same way we can't pretend to be perfect we must understand that circumstances around us also won't be perfect eventually we will have tribulations distress frustration i just came to encourage you a little tonight no seriously warring does not take away tomorrow's trouble but it takes away today's peace how many of you have ever been in an airplane that hit turbulence what do you do when there is turbulence during a flight the breath praying clutching the armrest did anybody ever got off the plane i'm out i can handle this there is too much turbulence no you hold on buckle up maybe you pray and i bet if you look around there are always people that don't even stop doing what they are doing at that time they keep reading that magazine they keep listening to the music watching the movie etc they have probably been flying for a while so they know how to deal with it it's the same thing in life when we hit turbulence eventually we understand that we all are going to go through things in life so we buckle up and do what we can't where we can to make it to the other side the high holiday season should be a time to plan ahead based on the experiences and the mistakes of the previous year now we can make the adjustments we did if we want 57 82 to be better than 5781 we have to do certain things different if i'm going to do the same thing in this new year i'm going to get the same results so the first thing you have to do is to have a plan for how to make 5782 better than 5781 plans are important i believe that the tanakh is a collection of plans the talmud says that god created the world using the torah as the blueprint in other words god is teaching us to plan ahead whenever we want to do something after every days of the creation god said and it was good all is going according to plan the torah presents plans for bottles plans for building the temple plan for helping the poor plans to enter the promised land plan after plan after plan ultimately it doesn't matter how religious you are you can't replace planning with prayer when jacob was about to meet his brother iso years after he stole his brother's blessing he came very distressed when learned that esau was coming with 400 men he probably thought that isa was coming to start a war between them so what did jacob do he made a plan a plan of dividing his camp into two groups with hope that if there is a violent encounter with esau then at least part of his group can likely survive and then he prayed so what are you expect expecting out of this new year it's an important question to think about whether you want to be healthier than you are right now or more experienced than you are right now or to have better relationship that you have right now you'll need to make a plan to do something you see in winnipeg we don't have a huge airport like toronto minneapolis but we do have lots of airplanes flying to multiple locations in canada and in the united states many people go to the airport every day but until you decide where you want to go a piece of advice don't go to the airport they don't sell tickets based on where you are they sell tickets based on where you're going after you know your destination sure there is probably a plan to take you but only after you know where you're going i know many people saying i don't know what i want out of this new year i just want it to be different of the past year but if you want 57.82 to be different from 5781 my question is what plans are you going to create to make that happen we're reading the book of habakkuk by the way have a cook was one of the minor prophets so in that book god said to the prophet have a cook write down the vision clearly on tablets so that even a runner can read it that got me thinking do you have a goal write it down in fact humor me keep a copy of that piece of paper containing that goal inside your maxwell so you can read it again next rosh hashanah to see how far into the list you went during 57.82 experts say that when we write down our goals we increase the likelihood of accomplishing them it doesn't matter how fast you run if you're running in the wrong direction it's not going to make any difference what do you want to be at the end of 5782 consider what it is in your studies in your health in your business in your relationships think about any area in your life that you want to see a change and stop dreaming and start planning sometimes we spend way too much time planning a wedding not enough time planning a marriage we spend a lot of time planning a vacation and not enough time planning a life this new year let's rediscover our priorities in life and plan a more meaningful year shana to vow me and mark thank you so much beautiful teachings as always but also what a sense of humor and how lucky are we to be able to smile and laugh during a sermon and a teaching with you well you're laughing because i'm talking about food at the beginning of yom kippur you should be thanking god that i didn't tell that joke tomorrow when you will be hungry [Laughter] i believe you echoed bonnie's thoughts exactly yeah now i truly think that we need to plan ahead that's one of the mistakes we make we dream a lot right absolutely we all dream a lot but then it's time to take it to the next level i'm talking to myself here we're listening okay so let's continue with the service page 242. we welcome the charizard quartet back for the acidic catislam [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] [Music] foreign [Music]
