so i want to start this episode by like doing a little explanation info introduction is a better word a little introduction um my name is lina i live in sweden and i have been making videos on youtube for a very long time about books because as you can see behind me i really like to read and and those videos are in swedish and i decided recently to start making videos about knitting because it's my new passion it's what i really love to spend my time on at the moment and i made two videos um about knitting recently and they were in swedish because my youtube channel is in swedish but i decided to start making the knitting videos in english so this one is the first one where i'm speaking english instead of swedish i'm a little bit nervous to be honest but i'll do my best and the reason for this is it feels a little more accessible to more people and also one of the projects i'm talking about in this video is a test knit and i wanted that to be accessible to more people the information about it so i decided to make the knitting videos in english i'm going to call them knitting time um because for me when i watch like knitting podcasts on youtube it's my knitting time and it's when i sit down i start like a good podcast that i've been really waiting for or really excited about seeing and i knit that's what i do so it's my knitting time and so that's why i wanted to call this um i'm not sure if i'm calling it a podcast that feels so professional i'm not sure i'm qualified for that but um i'm calling it knitting time because that's what i feel when i see there's like a new podcast out i'm like oh knitting time and so this is knitting time with lena so like i said my name is lina i am from sweden i live just outside of uppsala which is a city outside of stockholm with my partner simon and our little baby girl and she's six months old almost and her name is iris and they're not home at the moment so that's why i'm filming and yeah you can find me on instagram i'll put the handle down here i think it's knit by lena with like dots in between um yeah i would like also to like just make it clear that my book videos will still be in swedish because that's i feel like most true to what i've been doing at the moment and like my viewers i don't want to disappoint them so um as of right now the book videos will be in swedish the knitting videos will be in english and obviously i will make a separate um playlist for knitting time so if you're not interested in like the knitting content you don't have to watch those videos if you're not interested in the book content you don't have to watch those videos problem solved but yeah i'll put my instagram information and everything down in the description box as well as like any pattern and yarn or anything that i talk about i will put in the description so you can find it easily now i'm going to drink some water because i feel all of a sudden a little bit nervous i think it's the language i'm doing my best i hope it's okay um like i've never never it's not true but for a long time i haven't been nervous with like making videos because i've been doing it for a long time so that doesn't bother me at all to like sit down and speak to a camera it feels kind of natural um but it's been a long time since i did a video in english so scares me a little bit so maybe that's why the nerves are creeping in today by the way look at this beautiful mug that my sister got me so many books so little time yeah so let's start with what i'm wearing this is my felix pullover by savory knitting i made this in heavy merino by knitting for olive in the color bordeaux bordeaux bordeaux it's pro it's one of those like french words and i'm not good at french but like bordeaux um yeah anyways um in the last episode i'm calling this one by the way episode one since the first one i'm making in english i did do two before this one uh and in the last one i talked about this one because it wasn't a whip in that one and i was like i really hope that i'll finish this this week and i did that's a long time ago now but i did finish this that week so i'm very happy with that and i love this sweater i've been wearing it a lot i'm thinking about making another one in like exact same yarn and everything but like a different color um i'm very interested in heavy merino uh knitting for olive has like a color that's called i think it's oatmeal or just oats i'm not sure in swedish it's called hobde so like oh meals oatmeal is that what it's called yeah anyways it's like a beigey kind of warm beige um i'm thinking about making another one in that color because i really love the sweater i've been wearing a lot i need more of it um but yeah i will put like a little b-roll of me wearing it so you can see how it looks but i made it really cropped uh so that i can wear it like on top of a skirt or a dress um i added the folded collar that wasn't in the pattern uh because i really like the like polished look of it it looks a little posh to me and i really really enjoy that look um i am very unposhed as a person in general but i really like it looks a little like luxurious and i i really like that so i added that and i also have the lace pattern obviously um really really happy with this i think i used six balls total of the knitting for olive bordeaux this is all i have left and i weighed this and this is exactly one um one wall it's 52 grams which is left over so we'll see what i'll do with that but something and um if you watch the episode before this one you know that i talked about this sweater because i started this on the wrong sized needles which was i don't even know how that happened i was supposed to use four millimeter needles because that's what i used to get gauge with this yarn but i started knitting it in three millimeter and i don't know why i think it's i like i needed three millimeter for the uh for the ribbing but for some reason i did the ribbing on the first one with 2.75 millimeter and then i went on to the yoke in three millimeter needle and i did basically the entire yoke and a part of the body which is a lot of the sweater since it's very cropped before i realized this and i decided to frog the entire thing so basically i knit this sweater twice but i am so happy that i decided to just frog it and do it over do it right because i've been loving this sweater so much and wearing it a lot and i gotta say as well with this yarn it's held up really nicely it's a merino like 100 merino so i was expecting it to pill um but it hasn't peeled a lot like you would expect some peeling on the like underarms here there's like a tiny bit of peeling there um nothing bad um so i'll give it a shave at some point but yeah nothing bad uh i also decided to do the cast off method jen is surprisingly stretchy bind off or is it duties i always mix it up with one of them is judy and one of them is jenny and one of them is like the surprisingly stretchy bind off and the other one is the magical cast on um i think it's jenny's surprisingly stretchy bind off uh i really like that one because uh i know tubular bind off is like everybody's favorite uh but i really like this one because it looks like there's a row of knit stitches i'll try to show you it looks like there's a row of knit stitches going around um like a cuff and i really like that look i think it looks very cute so i used that one and i'm very very happy with this um like i said i'll probably need another one in a different color because i really like this one so that's all my finished object since last time and we're now moving on to whips which is work in progress if you don't know i have three whips at the moment two of them that are like projects that i'm actually working on and one of them that is in the naughty corner for the moment so we'll start with that one so i made my project bags out of scraps like yarn that my mother just had laying around and i use that to just make these uh little bags i have a lot of them in like different uh fabric depending on like what she had and different sizes depending on the project and in these i have a little like pouch that i made for example in this one i have this one so it's like a pouch that i knitted and felted that i have my notions in so like my sister and my needles and my measuring tape and stuff like that and i really liked how these turned out when i felted them so we bought for iris at like a secondhand store a little bag of wooden i don't really know the english word for it like little wooden toys that you build stuff with um i want to say bricks but i'm not sure if that's the right word anyways we bought like a plastic bag of those for they were basically almost for free um but i didn't like the plastic bag because we're not plastic people so i wanted to make her a like felted bag for those basically so that's what i started and that's the project that's in the naughty corner and i'll show you why so here it is uh i'm knitting it in rao mafianull um this color is called basil i think and the orange is called i think it's nippon i don't know what that is in english if it's called knife nypon i'm not sure all of the information about like colors and stuff will be down below in the description box obviously but i'm knitting it in that because that's what i used for the other pouches that i made and i really liked the result when i felted it and i decided to try to make it like a shaker board pattern so that's what i started so you can see here uh because i thought that would be cute with the wooden like bricks because that's what they are basically so i was going to do like a shaker board pattern and i got this far and then and i decided to like not care about carrying floats or anything like that like i have ridiculously long floats here because i didn't carry them over and it's like 15 stitches or something um and i decided to do that because i was gonna felt it anyway so i didn't think that it would matter um but what happened with this which is the reason that it's in the northern corner at the moment is i was checking to see like if i liked the way it turned out and it was looking like this you know folding it because that's i would seem like the bottom when i was done and when i did this i realized that i have twisted my knitting so it's instead of being like in the round it's a spiral so i'm gonna have to frog this this and just do it over and i lost all motivation and just put it in a project bag and put it out of my mind that's what happened so yeah it's now living in this project bag i'll fro the entire thing at some point start over it's a long time like so she's gonna need those toys anyway so it's like i'm not in a rush with this and i was so frustrated when i realized that i'd done this because i was so careful when i started i started it that like not to twist the stitches and then i did anyways i was knitting on this in the car so maybe that's what happened i wasn't focused i'm not sure it's very frustrating and it's the first time that this has happened to me i know what happened to my sister before and she talked about it i was like okay i'm gonna be careful so that that doesn't happen but here we are so i'll see if i'll just frog it and do it again and maybe that time i'll cast on with judy's magical cast on method to avoid twisting the stitches we'll see but that is my one of my whips and the one that i put in the naughty corner and then we're moving on to my next project which is the test knit that i talked about so i was chosen and i didn't talk about this one in the last episode because i um didn't know that i was doing this test knit in the last episode episode but now i do so here it is i'm test knitting the semper sweater by the knit pearl girl and i am loving this it's it's like a perfect wardrobe staple and i i need those because this year i feel like i want to start making my wardrobe since i started knitting in like november or october 2021 so last year i haven't been knitting for that long and i feel like this year is the year where i'm going to start to like make my own wardrobe and wear a lot of what i make and that's going to be amazing so i need to build the wardrobe that i i dream of so when i saw this sweater i was like that's perfect that's a wardrobe staple and you can do so much with it like make it a basic color you can have it like as a basic everyday sweater make it a fun color or like pattern or whatever and you can just spice it up a little bit it's it's very versatile and i like that so i've been i had this yarn in my stash for a long time it's right here that looks like this this is the cotton kings uh sultan deluxe shine in the color i think it's called black or low yeah and i've had this yarn in my stash for a long time this isn't very expensive yarn it's a sport weight and it measures a thousand meters which is crazy for like one ball and i think the ball is 250 grams yeah which is like 1093 yards so it's very the yardage on this is crazy and i've had this in my stash for a while it's a very expensive yarn and i think it cost like one balls like 300 something krona which is maybe like 30 euros so it's very very expensive and me and my sister we've been talking about this yarn because it's amazing the fade is great and it's also glittering i really like glitter um and then all of a sudden this yarn was on like 50 sale so it was um a lot cheaper than it usually is so i got some and i've been keeping it in my stash waiting for a good project and then i got accepted to test knit the semper sweater i was like i'm doing it i'm gonna see if i can get gage for this because the pattern actually calls for a decay weight and this is a sport weight so it's like i'm gonna see if i can get cage and if i can i'm gonna try to make it work and i did so i got gage on i think i'm doing it on three millimeter yeah on three millimeter needles which is a lot smaller than the pattern actually calls for which means that like the drape and everything might be a little bit different um but i just wanted this yarn to work because i've been dreaming ever since i got this yarn i've been dreaming about a sweater that looks like a night sky and i feel like this yarn really does that because of the like dark blue colors with like the glitter in it this reminds me of the night sky and i just want a sweater that looks like that so i have done most of the body which is crazy so this is what i have so far uh i will put like an elastic in here because since this is a fingering weight instead of a dk it's like a little drapier i think um so i'm going to put an elastic in here to make the collar really sit nicely but it's a double folded collar using a technique that i didn't use for this one because for the felix pullover i just knitted it double and then folded it and sewed it for this one you actually knit um the collar and then after like half the length you do a purl row so you get these purl bumps and then you do the rest of the color and then you fold it so you get the pro bumps on top and then so actually what happens is that it like it folds naturally that way it wants to go that way because of that row and then you knit two stitches together all the way around um so that it creates the color and i really really like that technique means you don't have to sew also means you do it as you go so it's finished because this one i had to decide like when i've knitted a part of the yolk i was like okay so now i'm gonna take some time to sew this um but you don't have to do that with this because it's finished um otherwise i'm not gonna talk so much about specifics because it's obviously paid for pattern um but yeah i finished the joke which is raglan i'm hoping you can see um it's a raglan that goes down here very nice um construction and i am now knitting the body which is basically just plain stockinette and you can see this yarn it's doing the fade and i really like it i'm not sure if i like that it actually looks a little stripey but i do like stripes so maybe maybe that'll be fine i hope so um so yeah i'll finish the body i'm gonna do it quite long because i don't like like in between length of sweaters i want it to be either cropped like this one or very long so it covers my my little post-pregnancy belly basically um so i'm gonna make this one quite long um and then i do the sleeves and i'm really nervous about the sleeves because i'm gonna try to match the fade because this is the yarn like my working yarn and obviously if i just cut this when i'm done and start knitting the sleeve it's not going to match so what i'm going to do because i have two more balls of the yarn and i when i split for the sleeves i weighed my uh my yarn to see like how much i had used um so i'm going to do my best to take a new one remove the same amount of yarn and then start with this on the sleeves to match the fade i don't know if it's going to work and i'm really nervous if you've done something like this and you have like a good tip please let me know because i've never done it and i don't know if it's a good method and it's probably not gonna work but i'm gonna try i really think yeah i'm really going to try and do my best because i want it to work but we'll see um yeah but i'm knitting this in the size f so for reference i have a bust circumference of 107 centimeters i have no idea what that is in like inches um but i'm knitting this in the size f which is a little on the like smaller side of um the recommended ease the reason that i chose to do that is because like i told you at the beginning i have a six month old daughter at home so i'm breastfeeding at the moment which makes my bust circumference a little bit bigger than it usually is um not a lot but like a little bit so i wanted to be on the very smaller end of the positive ease spectrum because um most likely that will fit me better as we go like in the long run so that's what i'm going for but yeah and i actually added as you can see a little light blue thing on the inside of the collar here because with this sweater i've been having problems deciding what's the front and the back when i'm going to wear it i did the short rows and there's also short row shaping in this one so you should be able to see but every time i'm putting it on i'm like is this the right way or am i wearing the back in the front so i decided to just add a little different color to the back side of the collar so that i'm when i'm going to wear this in the future it's just going to be easy for me to see that's the back um and i'll probably go back and add this add that to this one as well and it's probably gonna be something that i do uh for sweaters because you know when i'm putting on like ready to is it called ready to wear ready to like when i'm putting on store-bought sweaters i usually look for like uh if it's like a t-shirt i don't pick it up and look at it what's the front with the what's the back i look at the neck and try to find because there's usually like a tag um in the neck so i go for that so i decided to like make my own little little tag yeah i really like this project it's very satisfying because it's just a simple rhythm sweater but you know that it's gonna be like a wardrobe staple like i said and you're gonna get a lot of wear out of it so yeah i'm really looking forward to finishing this but i was knitting on the body and i was like okay so i'm i've been doing stockinette for forever and i need a break um so i'm using this as my like mindless um nighttime knit when i'm really tired or when iris is awake and she's playing by herself but i know that she might need me in like one second and it's only on this one because it's just easy to pick up and put down or like in the car or in front of the telly or anything like that um so that's my my go-to project for those times at the moment because it's just for the rest of the body until i'm gonna do the vibing it's just stuck in it so you don't have to think too much about it but i had this day where iris was sleeping very well she was sleeping for a few hours and i didn't feel like doing stockinette i needed something else so i talked about this in my uh last episode but if you're not a swedish speaker you're not gonna understand that so i'll tell you about it now um that i bought yarn for a different a new project i bought more of the heavy merino by knitting for olive this will probably it has a good chance uh of becoming my new favorite yarn i really like this one i like the feel of it i like that it's not scratchy uh i like that it's a little thicker and i like knitting with it and it has a lot of beautiful colors so i bought like a sweater quantity of the rust color in my last episode because i wanted to make the chunky dahlia by lynette or lena holm samso i think helen hellen something like that lena home some so i think it's it's it is um and i have casted that on and i have basically finished the joke yesterday and i'm in love with this sweater it's so beautiful i'm i have it on like this put your stitches on whole thing um because i wanted to be able to show you the yolk in its entirety in the beautiful pattern um so i wanted to make this one because i was really inspired by um laura from penrose knits she was wearing it in one of her episodes and i was like oh my god that sweater is beautiful and and i want one for myself so i was really inspired by her and the color that she chose that's why i did the rust one so i've done the uh the pattern says to do what was it like a i'm not sure what it's called like a temporary um cast on or something like that i have the pattern in swedish so i'm not sure what what it's called in english but i didn't do that anyways i decided to just do normal cast on and then um because i wanted to just because it's for the uh creation of the double folded collar that they were doing that and i read i threw the pattern what they were doing with it and i was like i can't wrap my head around this at the moment i was a little bit tired and i'm not feeling it so i decided to just do a regular cast on like a long tail cast on and just knit the collar and then fold it down like i did with this one and sew it so i have made the collar but i haven't folded it down and sewn it so this collar will be like folded in it's not gonna be turtleneck it'll be like that or something like that so the same way i did with this one um but yeah this joke oh my god look at this this lace work is amazing i'm just i'm just so impressed with this design uh i think it's so beautiful this lace work and i would probably never be able to wrap my head around designing something like this and i'm just really happy that i was able to make it um because yeah i think this is gorgeous so i've actually finished the joke and the next part is splitting for sleeves but i'll probably take some time after i've finished filming this to sew the collar and then i'll split for sleeves um yeah this was a really good like palette cleanser for all the stockinette that i've been doing um to just cast something on that i've been really dreaming about owning and just going with it so yeah i really like this one i'm doing it on four mil no yes four millimeter four millimeters which is the same as i did for the felix pullover to get gauge um and honestly i did mess up a little bit because i started i did the ribbing on three millimeter and then i don't know i was just tired i think you can see it if you look closely because what i did is that for the four or five first row of the like um lace work i forgot to switch my needles uh so for the four or first four or five first rows i'm using three millimeter needles when i should be using four and when i just but i noticed that i was too tired to do like frog and do it again so i just switched the needles and you can see it if you actually look closely but really who looks closely uh and i don't think it's gonna affect the fit of it too much i hope because i finished the joke now and i don't feel like doing it again so if it doesn't look good like it fit on me because of that i'll probably just finish it and give it away but i think it's gonna be okay it's just a few rows i don't think it matters probably won't matter and if it's like feels weird i can probably block it out so yeah i've been really enjoying this project and this yarn and this color the rust color orange is my favorite color so this rust color is really ticking all the boxes for me i'm not sure it matches i'm not sure i can pull it off with like my skin tone and everything i've never had anything in this color and but i don't care i think like if you like the color and the fabric it's creating you can probably make it work right um yeah oh actually these strings different topic that's the way i am these strings for this project bag i actually made a little out of a scrap yarn that i got from my neighbor she was like i don't know what to do with this and like pink is not my color but yeah i had this uh fabric from my mother and i was like yeah why the hell not so those are all of my whips and finished objects i don't have a lot of acquisitions but i'll show you the ones that i have in my little yarn stash over here by the way can we talk about this basket it's amazing um it's not very organized because everything is just in there but i've tried to make it so that the projects that i'm like that i bought specific yarn for um i have one of those yarn balls at the top so i can see it's on like yes i'm going to make that with this yarn and then i have the rest of it at the bottom so i'm like oh yeah this is a project and this is a project this is a project i know but like the rest of the yarn for the project is at the bottom so that i keep reminding myself about why i bought the yarn but this basket i saw um me and simon my partner we were driving we were in a different city for for a couple of days and we were driving past this thrift shop and this basket stood outside i was like you need to go back i need to buy that uh it's going to be perfect for my yarn stash and i really love it so i'm happy with that little thrift but yeah the only acquisitions i have since last time are these so i'll start with this one this is raumathinol in the color it's very green it's 100 norwegian wool and i'm going to see what the color is oh it doesn't say it's just 0 4 32 i don't know what the name of the color is um i actually only bought one bowl of this because i'm going to make another little notions pouch um with this and so i'm going to knit just like the pouch that i showed you but like only green and instead of the color work that i had in the one that i showed earlier earlier and i will felt it as well because i really like the way that turned out so i'll do that with this one too i'm gonna drink some water now because it's so warm in here and i'm wearing wool for the purpose of this video so i need a little sip yeah it's crazy weather because it's been very sunny it's been raining it's cloudy and it's so warm at the same time so it's very humid which makes it very warm yeah so that's my first acquisition i bought this for that project and i will probably cast that on pretty soon it's a very fast knit because you don't really have to make it super fancy since i'm gonna felt it anyways and it i don't follow a pattern i just make it up in my head and go with the like what i'm feeling um so yeah i'll make that probably quite soon and then i have this yarn which is amazing so this was also i think inspired firstly by laura from penrose knits um and then i think lissy from hive knits also used this yarn for the exact project that i'm gonna use it for so it's really inspired by them and i don't think i would have picked this yarn up if it wasn't for those videos but i really really enjoyed the color um but i think if i just saw this one online i would have been a little bit scared so it's obviously if you look at it like this it's just blue and blue and orange are my favorite colors so that really speaks to me but this blue and this is what i saw on uh laura's channel that this blue i don't know if you can see it it has green in it so it's like a bluish green i have no idea if this is focusing i really hope it is um and i really hope you can see but it's like it has blue with like one strand of green and the color is called i think ocean deep in english huffs you but posenska it's like deep ocean and that's the perfect name for this color because that's what it reminds me of it's like this rich blue with like hint of mysterious green going through it it's amazing and and this is obviously i didn't even say but it's drops nepal the color number is 8905. i bought a lot of this it's at the bottom of my my basket i bought a lot of it because i'm going to make the super sweater by petite knit which is exactly what i think lissy from hybnitz was making in this yarn i really want that sweater because ever since i saw it i was like i will use that sweater so much if i make it um because i talked about this in my last episode that i am going to make the zipper slip over in my pluto loopy held with knitting for olives pure silk and this is the color cardamom and this is ivory beige i'm gonna make the zipper slip over in these and i already swatched for it and everything i just haven't cast on yet and what i said in that episode is that i i will use that sleepover a lot because i spent a lot of time on our balcony we have a really big it's more like a terrace it's very big and and i like to um do a lot of gardening so spend a lot of time out there and when it's like early spring or autumn it gets a little bit chilly and if i put on a nice sweater to keep warm it gets very dirty on the sleeves so the slip over will be perfect for that but the sweater version the super sweater it's like a dream sweater of mine i love like a zipper that goes up to here and it just looks so warm and cozy and like i said i live in sweden it gets cold here in the winters i just know that i'm gonna use that sweater so much if i actually make it and then i saw this yarn and i couldn't believe how gorgeous this was and i just couldn't persist getting it i got it from ilotil in absala which is my local yarn store and i can't wait to own the zipper sweater in this yarn it just makes me so excited to think about and this is an alpaca wool mix it's 65 wool 35 alpaca so it's gonna be so warm and cozy and i'm just gonna love this sweater for winter and autumn and like really early spring and yeah the color just makes me so happy the bluish green it looks so mysterious and like deep ocean is the perfect way to describe this and yeah i'm just so excited about this color it's so gorgeous and i'm so happy that i saw this in lysis and laura's videos because i don't think that i would have bought this based on the pictures online because it was a little greenish on the online picture but in real life it's just gorgeous right it's the perfect combination of like blueish green yeah so those are my only acquisitions and i think that's all i'm gonna say today i really hope that you've enjoyed this video and i really hope that you're gonna come back and see more of them i really enjoyed it but i still feel a little self-conscious about the fact that i'm speaking english but that'll probably just get normalized is that a word it's a word in swedish i just translated it i feel like i'm just gonna get more and more comfortable with the english as we go and i hope that it's been okay and i've really enjoyed making this video i love talking about knitting at the moment and knitting podcasts are basically the only thing i watch on youtube at the moment as well um it's it's my new passion and it works a lot better with my life as like a newly mom than reading does because if i sit down to read i need like a big chunk of time to really get into the story and connect with it and get the emotions and if i'm reading for like two minutes and then iris needs my attention i'm gonna have to reread that page but if i knitted for two minutes i still did that knitting i still like did those stitches um so i don't have to like redo the same thing over and over again because even if i managed to sit down and knit 10 stitches i still knit 10 stitches they still count but if i like read three sentences i'm gonna have to reread them so therefore the knitting fits a lot better in my lifestyle at the moment so there's probably going to be a lot more knitting content to come and i hope you're going to be here for it otherwise have a good day and i'll see you when i see you you
