today I'm going to show you a complete beginner's guide to the Kindle Paperwhite starting with an unboxing of the device and then the setup process I'm going to show you some of my favorite tips tricks and hidden features allowing you to leave this video as a Kindle Paperwhite expert let's get started let's take a tour around the box here so on the front we've got the Kindle paperweight and it says now adjustable warm light is included with eight gigabytes of storage it's got a picture of the device and then chapter one of a book currently open we've got the Amazon logo and then in the black color right here on the side there's nothing on the side right here nothing on the side and then on the very back it has a little description of the features that the paper white Kindle comes with has a 6.8 touch display waterproof it's adjustable warm light it has Wi-Fi and eight gigabytes and now with a 6.8 inch display and adjustable warm light for your personalized reading Experience day or night reads like real paper even in bright sunlight with a glare free 300 pixel display and Laser quality text store thousands of books and take your library with you read magazines and Comics anywhere anytime a single charge via USBC lasts weeks not hours it's thin portable and purpose-built for reading so you lose yourself in a book Whenever Wherever and you enjoy unlimited reading of over 2 million titles with the Kindle unlimited subscription and it's waterproof for reading at the beach by the pool or in the bath and pair with an audible subscription and Bluetooth headphones or speakers to listen to your story hands-free so Inside the Box we got the Kindle Paperwhite 11th generation a USBC charging cable a built-in rechargeable battery and this is the ad supported version with sponsored screen screen savers so we will have ads while it's in screensaver mode so let's go ahead on the bottom we've got some regulation paperwork there but at the top we got this fancy mechanism for pulling it and opening up just one quick pull tab here will give us access to the contents in the box so I'll go ahead and peel this back just like that and then I can open the box and see what's inside so it has another pull tab we'll go ahead and pull this out and we're present it with the Kindle itself so it just comes out just like that and here we have that's what books are for to travel without moving an inch the Kindle is presented right here it's in this nice little plastic here it shows us where the power on button is in multiple languages so we've got our 6.8 touch display right here and then on the very bottom we've got the charging port and the power button and then right here we have the Kindle Paperwhite logo so that's right there we're presented with the Kindle we can go ahead and open up the charging connector and paperwork inside so it comes with a USBC to USB a charging cable and then inside is some paperwork that we can take a look at so Kindle paper white learn more about your Kindle paperwrite by visiting the Kindle users guide located in your device settings it tells us to charge it and to press the power button then inside we've got some safety information battery safety protection against water other safety and maintenance considerations and the products backs and FCC compliance and on the back here tells us about recycling our device properly additional safety and compliance information Amazon terms and policies limited warranty and additional information so one thing that is nice is that since this is an Amazon device um any you know Kindle purchase that you've already made for ebooks you can download you can log into your Amazon account and check them out so let's go ahead and unwrap this I'm going to clear the area here and we'll go ahead and open these two devices so I'm going to take the boxes and move them to the side and then we've got first off the USB cable so this cable will allow us to charge our Kindle device we just open it like that and you can plug this in into your computer or into a wall but it has to have a USB a port that looks just like this in order for that to work and then on the other end is What's called the USBC cable and you plug that into the bottom of the Kindle which I'll show you after we get this opened up so you can see the Kindle has this nice wrapping around it it's never been open before and all we have to do is just pull this tab right here just like that and we can slide the Kindle right out of the wrapping so we've got some regulation paperwork there on the back some warnings that we can take a look at this is what the back of the Kindle looks like it's got the Amazon arrow logo and then some regulatory stuff you can see that it does capture fingerprints a little bit just based off touch you can see those smudges there I've only had it for 30 seconds and it's already collected a few smudges but this is paper like so it's interesting how they have the screen technology to make it look like you're reading on paper but at the same time it's a digital device so we can see here on the very bottom is where you plug in your USBC cable to to power your device so it plugs in just like that you may need an adapter depending on what computer model you have but um in order for this to work you do need this is what's called USB a this connector which is the rectangular shape for plugging in into your computer or 12 wall outlet and then on the other end on the other end here this is what's called USBC it's a round shape it's smaller so we've got USBC right here and USB a right here they're two different ports but they're both what's called USBC there's other both called USB but one's called USBC and one's called USB a so a bit confusing because they're both USB ports but they're different letter type ports so on the Kindle device itself you have a USBC Port you plug that in and then you need a USB a port to plug in the power adapter so we'll take a look at that in a moment but for now let's see if we go ahead and Power on this device we just hold down this button right here to power on and see what happens so we just hold it down you can see the e ink display there it provides the Kindle logo and the tree the famous reading the book under the tree um and it's booting up right here we'll go ahead and set that down and see what happens when we power on our Kindle for the very first time we get a loading screen there it loads it's processing um and now it's wanting us to select our language so we can come in here and we see that we've got Dodge English espanol French Italian Portuguese and a few other languages so we can come in here and select English we just tap on it just like that and allows us to hit next now there is this option for accessibility at the very bottom which allows a voice view screen reader so provides spoken feedback when you touch items on the screen this feature is only available in English you can turn this on and it will speak what you select so it's searching for Bluetooth audio devices to pair so you will need to connect the Bluetooth headset in order to hear because there apparently is not a built-in speaker into the Kindle device for you to hear we can hit cancel and disable this feature for now but if you're to connect your Bluetooth headset it will be searching for the Bluetooth headphones right then and there so we'll go ahead and select English for our main language and then hit the next button just like this so now it wants us to select your region this will change your dialogue but in formatting dates and times so we'll go ahead and say that we're in the United States depending on where you are in the world you'll select what region you're from and then we'll go ahead and hit next just like this and now Kindle is loading it's processing we'll go ahead and set it down and let it load as it processes this data now the Kindle has Wi-Fi built in so that will allow us to download new books it'll allow us to connect to the internet and review our current content that's on the Kindle and we'll go through that setup process momentarily we'll be able to log in with our Amazon account and any ebooks that you've previously purchased on Amazon or in the bookstore or even audiobooks you'll be able to review right here inside the Kindle and it's a really neat process assistance across all of your devices and what's really nice is Kindle supports multiple devices from your Android your iPhone your computer no matter where you're at you can use your Kindle application they even have a web interface so it makes it really cool that you can read and access your Kindle Amazon books and Amazon audio recordings almost anywhere so it's loaded and it's processing everything and now it has a screen right here where it says hello welcome to your new Kindle paperwright 11th generation you can easily you can sit up easily on this device if you have the Kindle app on your phone you can use the app for even even faster setup don't have the app download Amazon Kindle for iOS or Android so let's go ahead and bring in our phone and do that if you have the Kindle app on your iPhone you can download it and set it up and have easier access so in order to make this process easier if you grab your iOS or Android device and search in the app store for the Kindle app you'll be able to set up your Kindle much easier so we'll go search for Kindle just like this and you'll select the Amazon Kindle ebook reader app right here and you'll download it to your device so I can go ahead and open it I already have the Kindle app installed and it's asking me to log in using my Amazon account so I'm going to go ahead and do that off screen I'll go ahead and enter my Amazon email and password and after I do that I'm going to hit the sign in button and it will log me in to the Kindle app just like this so it loads and now here I've got the home section I've got some recommendations and I've got some books that are in my library so it's got multiple courses down here that I can select from library I don't have anything downloaded on this device I can go to discover discover new books and then I can go to more in over here on our Kindle we can go ahead and say set up with phone so now that I have the Kindle app on my phone it wants us to open the Kindle app on your phone go to the apps more Tab and select settings and then turn on Amazon device simple setup once your Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle app connect the setup will continue on your phone so let's take a look at that we open up the Kindle app we can swipe down we installed it on the App Store so you can search for the Kindle app on your phone and of course they have this tab down here at the bottom called more so you go select more and then after you select it more you want to select settings which is right here so we select settings and then this allows us to turn on Amazon device simple setup so right here Amazon device simple setup you can tap for explanation use your Kindle app to set up your eBook reader and other Amazon devices through Bluetooth you must have Bluetooth turned on for this feature we'll go ahead and hit OK and then we'll turn this feature on so connect to other Amazon devices your Kindle app connects to other Amazon devices for certain features using Bluetooth which will allow the Kindle app to access Bluetooth now you will need to set up to You'll you will need you'll still need to set up to make sure Bluetooth is enabled in your your OS settings to use this feature so in order to check in your operating system settings you can go to your settings and then you can scroll down right here to Bluetooth and Bluetooth will need to be turned on in order for this to work after you have confirmed that Bluetooth is on you can go back to your Kindle app and allow Bluetooth and then Kindle would like to use Bluetooth the Kindle needs access to Bluetooth to set up or connect with certain Amazon devices we say OK and we have successfully authorized it to use Bluetooth so once your Kindle paper white and bluetooth app connects it'll continue on the phone we'll hit try again and allow it to search for the Amazon device simple setup and just like that a Kindle Paperwhite was found so I pressed the try again button after the Amazon device simple setup was turned on and now I can come in here and say get started Kindle Paperwhite found start set up now let's go ahead and do that and now I can register your Kindle you will be signed into this Kindle as Justin keep your Kindle nearby during setup make sure your phone does not go to sleep while connecting to your Kindle e-reader and of course by clicking and tapping link and continue you agree to Amazon's conditions of use and all the terms found there and you can view their privacy policy so let's go ahead and hit link and continue in the magic will start to happen we found a Kindle app use the app to complete the setup and just like this it's asking what our Wi-Fi network was so previously saved to Amazon it's already got my Wi-Fi password saved I can go ahead and select that previous Network or you can select a new network and enter the Wi-Fi password and what this will do is transfer the Wi-Fi's password from your phone and into the Kindle so it can connect to the internet just like that so it's processing right now we've selected the previously selected Wi-Fi network and you can see as it processes there it has a little Spinning Wheel to continue so it's adding the Wi-Fi network right now that's on the phone to the Kindle app and as it continues we'll sit here in process and continue when it has finished and success your Kindle is now logged into your Amazon account and Wi-Fi switch back to your Kindle to continue so now that we've successfully passed the Wi-Fi password from the phone and sent it to the Kindle through Bluetooth it says hi Justin welcome to your new Kindle Paperwhite 11th generation you're logged in and connected to Visionary using the Wi-Fi credentials you previously saved to Amazon so I'll go ahead and hit next make this Kindle kid friendly your Kindle allows you to create a personalized experience for each child that can create up to four child profiles add content from your library set reading goals track progress and earn badges for reading I'm going to go ahead and select no thanks considering I don't have any kids that will be reading this content on this book or on this Kindle if you do have kids and you want to create up to four child accounts you can hit the yes button I would like to make my Kindle kid friendly but I'm gonna go ahead and say no thanks and we'll go ahead and hit the next button so now Goodreads be a part of the world's largest community of book reader Book Lovers on Goodreads get recommendations from readers like you so I can create an account using my Amazon login or I can sign in with a different login I'll go ahead and create an account using my Amazon login and we can take a diver deep look at Goodreads so a Goodreads account will be created for Justin this account will use the same username and password as your Amazon account you will be automatically signed in on this Kindle once the account is created so we'll go ahead and create an account and it looks like I already have an account on Goodreads so it asks me would you like to sign in with this email address we'll go ahead and sign in but I'm gonna have to go recover my password first so I'm going to enter this in and we'll be right back so I've successfully logged in with my Goodreads account and now it's offering Kindle unlimited enjoy unlimited access to over 4 million ebooks thousands of audiobooks and a selection of popular magazines so I can start a three month free trial and after that it renames at ten dollars a month afterwards so I'm going to go ahead and hit the no thanks button but if you want to get access to over 4 million books and thousands of audiobooks then this may be right for you and you can access it right here on the Kindle load screen so I'm going to go ahead and hit no thanks and continue setting up my Kindle so on the next screen they have another offer for audible where I can discover millions of audio tracks that have the largest library of audiobooks and listen to A-list celebrities narrate their favorite stories discover Grammy and award-winning titles and more and it offers the details here where I can get set up with a 30-day free trial a limited time offer of two audio books to get you started one credit a month after your trial good for any book and keep your books forever even if you cancel so you've got easy exchanges too if you don't love a book you can swap it anytime so audible is a service that lets you listen to audiobooks and you'll need to connect Bluetooth in order for that to work properly so you'll need some Bluetooth headphones listen to audio audible on your Kindle by connecting with Bluetooth you can also listen on any Alexa device or free audible app for iOS or Android so if you want to get started with audiobooks you can offer here you've got 30 day free trial you can get that to sign up and then of course after membership continues until canceled for 14.95 a month plus taxes you can cancel anytime in the Account Details I'm going to go ahead and select no thanks but we can go ahead and get started and see what else our Kindle has to offer so now that I've logged in with my Amazon account it's already pulling books that I have signed up for that purchased previously right here I can see I've got a list of books that I have previously bought or added to my Amazon account that are in my library I can scroll down here this is the home section I can discover new books right now it's on the prime reading section and then books recommended for me most read non-fiction books on Amazon charts since this is logged into my Amazon account it knows that I love reading nonfiction and it's offering a new set of non-fiction books for me it's got a sponsored ad here where I can visit the Kindle store to find other books I can scroll down try element reading and listening with Kindle unlimited free trial bestsellers included in your Prime Membership so if you have Amazon Prime you can have some free books right there that we can tap on and see what books are included updating your Kindle Store experience it should take a minute so here best sellers that are included already in Prime so it looks like if you have Amazon Prime you can get access to some of the very best sellers on the Amazon platform and wow I've got access to Harry Potter and more just because I'm subscribed to Amazon Prime so that's in the Kindle store we'll take a look at that I can scroll down here and find some settings we've got Justin's Kindle and then I can turn on airplane mode I can turn Bluetooth off and on I can enter dark mode I can sync I can go to all settings I can adjust the brightness that's on the current screen just like this by scrolling up and down I can adjust the warmth which is one of the best features of the paper white depending if I'm in the Sun or not I can scroll up or down to adjust the warmth so those are the settings if you just scroll from the top of the screen that you have quick access to we go ahead and hit the x button right here to go back to our previous screen inside the Kindle so now we're on the home page and then we got home at the very bottom in the library on the right we can take a look at the library these are books that I've already added to my library and I can come here and read them just by tapping on them so really cool one of my favorite books keep going I can just press it and it's downloading it right now using Wi-Fi you can see it has a percentage and is ready to open 16 50 is selling very fast 71 and it's successfully downloaded and you can see that with the check mark and I can tap on it and open up this book that's in my library and start reading it so welcome to your book you tap or swipe on the right side of the screen to turn to the next page so all you have to do is tap or swipe on the right side of the screen to turn to the next page you tap or swipe on the left side of the screen to go back a page and you tap the top of the page to display the toolbar to access page display settings or exit your book so let's give that a try we'll hit done I can swipe on the very bottom right to go to the next page I can swipe to the left to go to the previous page I can tap to go to the next page or I can tap on the left side of the screen to go to the previous page then I can tap at the top to get access to the toolbar just like that so now that I have access to the tools it appears here that I can tap the icon to exit your book and go back to your recently visited home or Library we can see what else we can do use the icons to access page display settings font size the table of contents and bookmarks and we'll go ahead and hit done there so I can hit the back button to go back to my library I can reopen that book and it's opening up right now and it shows me a little bit of information about this book you can see welcome about this book shows you additional information about your book for the first time you open it you can access it anytime from the menu you can adjust when about this book appears by tapping the settings link below and then it shows you know the title of the book the author the reviews the X-ray flip through all 82 images in the book how long it takes to read I can see here it takes an hour and two minutes 177 Pages popular highlights 397 397 passages have been highlighted and I can scroll down more about the author and that's about this book we'll go ahead and hit exit and now I'm inside the book and again I can tap right or I can type tap left to go to the previous page or the next page and then I can tap at the top to get access to the toolbar we previously hit the back button here to go back to our library let's take a look at what happens when we hit the AAA button so I can manage the themes the font the layout and more so they have tons of options in here that allow me to come in here I can make this more compact which is the current thing or I can go to standard or I can go to large and this adjusts the way the book looks in the text amount that's on the book and you can see the different diagrams here that display the appropriate text size so standard it looks like it's spread out a bit more compact everything squished together and large the text is very large we're going to remain standard and keep that current theme there so you can come down here if you adjust it and add a new theme you can currently save the current settings we can press the manage themes and it looks like they have an additional theme right here called Low Vision which we can toggle on and then we can go back we can turn some of these Sims off if we want to just by swiping the switch over here and that turns off a theme that way it's no longer enabled when you check your themes section but we'll go back to manage themes we'll turn on those themes and now we have a low vision theme that we can also tap to because we turn that on inside of the switch settings so those are your theme options we can go over to font and we've got the font family we can adjust the Bold and the size you can tap on the font family and select various different fonts that are offered here so we can see if we want to change it up we can go to another font just by tapping it and you can select whichever font you want just by tapping on it like that so you can see I've selected multiple fonts there and it switches easily and we can take a look at what some of this looks like so once we select a different font and we go to a screen here with fonts we can clearly see what it looks like so that's the new font I selected we tap at the very top to get our options and then we tap the AA button and now we can select a different font just like this and now we can see since there's some text on the screen what all of the different fonts look like so I'll go through each one right here here's the second one we just tap on it and it switches over to that new font third fourth font fifth font sixth seventh Eve and like so you can see all the fonts have their own unique style I think I like this font the best we'll stick with this one for now and we'll go back to our font family and we can adjust some more of the settings here so the boldness I can lower the boldness just like this or I can increase it all the way up to five so they allow you to change the boldness based off how big you want it and you know we can keep it average at three or we can make it all the way at five so you just tap on the minus button to decrease The Bold and you tap on the plus button to increase the Bold so just like that we'll go ahead and leave this one at two and now we can adjust the text size right now we can see that it's at 11 we could hit the plus button to increase the text size just like that as you see it increases and we hit the minus button to decrease the text size just like this so we can decrease it all the way down to one and you can see this is getting extremely small that I may even have to bring the paper right Kindle in so you can even see the text there so you can have it really tiny or you can have it as big as a size 14 just like that where you can read it when it's even setting down so it's really cool you can come in here and customize the font family how big and bold you want your text to be and the font size just by hitting these plus or minus buttons and coming in and also selecting your font family and picking which font you like the best so let's take a look at what else we have here we've got the layout so we can adjust the orientation of the text we have a landscape mode or we oh yep and switches just like that into landscape and now that's a whole new way of reading versus reading this book actually will work really good in landscape because if we go to the next page a lot of the images are um you know a square so it looks really good in landscape mode depending on what content you're reading you may like the landscape or you may not but same rule Supply you tap the top to get access to your controls and then you tap the right to move to the next page or you swipe or you swipe on the left or you tap the left to go to the previous page so it's really cool that we have access to a landscape mode and we just tap the top to get access to our controls we press the AAA button we go over to layout let's move it back over to portrait mode and just like this it switches to Portrait so you can change the orientation you can change the margins if you want your content to be more squeezed in let's go back to a page that has text tap the top to get our controls tap the AAA to go to our layout and here we can look at what margins look like when we squeeze them in so depending on how big and how small you want your margins to be when you're reading your content you can adjust this on the Fly inside of the layout section under the AAA section you can change the alignment just by pressing the alignment option right here and then even better you can change the spacing you know in school we all have the double space so we could maybe like our content more double space or put together more closely so you can change the spacing just like that and then they've got the more option where you can come in here and you've got reading progress so you can see if it tells you where the location is in the book how much time is left in the chapter time left in the book or none and then we can go show clock while reading that can be offer on so the clock will just display the time if we swipe this on the time will pop up there at the top or we can turn that off we've got book mentions we can scroll back up and see book mentions identifies names of other books mentioned in this book we've got about this book show information about book One open for the first time and then we've got popular highlights display passages that are most frequently highlighted by other Kindle users in their highlight menu automatically show the Highlight menu when you select the passage of text and then page turn animation this is off but we can use a page turn animation while reading let's take a demo of that if I turn that on and I swipe the page we get a little animation just like that we can tap the top to get access to controls tap the AAA button and then we can turn page animation off now we can scroll down and see what other options we have here word wise show easy hints above unfamiliar words that sounds really cool I don't know if we'll find any unfamiliar words in this book but I am going to turn that on and then show multiple choice hints or unsure the correct hand forward will show you a list of possible meanings and ask you to pick one that is most helpful and then you can select the language English or Chinese so just like that word wise sounds like a really cool feature tap word wise and use the slider to adjust how many hints you see so we'll go ahead and hit the X there really cool feature there so I'll go ahead and so you can see hints about two two let's go ahead and hit show or hide so we can't see the full screen right here for now but we'll take a look at that if we come across any word wise hints and then we've got another option here for showing the punctuation guides above Chinese characters that we can turn on or off so that is or those are all the settings there in the AAA section of our Kindle we can take a look at what else we have on the other options next up we have to talk about our table of contents which is this button right here we can press it and it shows a list of table of contents just like you would see at the beginning of every book you can go to the very beginning you can go to a specific page or location we can go to the cover here and see what that looks like then I can tap the top get right back access to our table of contents we can also take a look at notes and highlights so we can see popular highlights that were already taken right here every day is a Groundhog Day the truly prolific artists I know always have that question answered because they have figured out a daily practice a repeatable way of working dot dot so we've got various highlights and notes here that are taken by popular opinion from other Kindle book owners that have this book and of course any notes and highlights that we take ourselves I can scroll down here and see all the different pages or locations for all the chapters and I can just tap on one chapter and go to it immediately we've got chapter number four make gifts you can swipe over and start reading that immediately so that's a very quick way to jump around in a book if you want to jump into a specific chapter or take a look at notes and highlights you can do that just by pressing that table of contents button and immediately popping up and seeing where you want to jump to it shows you the page number right here this is on page 21 that's on page 34. this is on page 168 so it just shows you where that current chapter is on what page it's on and then you can also manually add that in to their page so if we want to go to page 200 and we can type in 200 and go right over there instantly so really cool that we can tap the top and get access to a table of contents stresses easily as in the settings is going to the front of the book and then instantly unlike a traditional paper book you don't have to turn the page you can just tap on it and it will take you instantly to that chapter if your Kindle falls asleep and you don't have the ad free version an ad pops up so we can see here the Arrogant infant ad has popped up we can press the power button to get access to our book and we swipe to unlock the Kindle if we tap at the top we can get access to the bookmarks feature so we've reviewed the layout section the table of contents this third icon over here is for bookmarks so if you tap the bookmarks you can see that we have previously booked Mark location 265. we're on location 270 if we want to bookmark that we can add the plus button if we want to go to the previous bookmark we can just tap on it you can get a sample of it and then tap on it um there to get access to it and then there's a back button right here where we can go back to where we were you just tap the top to get access to your controls and now we can actually bookmark this page just by pressing the plus button right there so now this page is bookmarked and we can go to another page over here and then tap the top to get access to our controls go back to our bookmarks and now we can see we've got two of them we can press the plus button to bookmark the current page that we're currently on or we can take a preview of where we were just by tapping on it and then tapping on the image to go back to where we were so that's a preview of bookmarks it allows you to easily get back to favorite pages that you've bookmarked just by pressing the plus button to add them to your bookmarks and being able to review previous pages that you've bookmarked just by simply looking at them in tapping on which one you want to go to just like that so that's bookmarks you just tap at the top you press the bookmarks button and then you can previously see the pages that you have bookmarked and currently bookmark the page that you're currently on the next option we have when we tap the top to access our controls is the search option we can come in here and search books and notes so I can type in the word job and press enter and it will search my library and here we've got all the results for jobs and it shows the location of where this word was location 265 location 268 just like that I can come there are no notes and highlights for the word job and then I can come down to book and see how many times the word job was written in this book and I can just tap on that location like that to immediately be taken out they want the job title without the work so I can come in here and use the search button button you tap the top you type the search and you can type in any search option that you want and immediately find out any notes highlights or where in the book that word that you typed in the search was so that's the example of the search feature and we can come in here the last option when we take a look and tap the top to get access to our controls are the three dots for more options we can come in here and see about this book notes and highlights x-ray vocabulary builder settings sync to for this page read disable this touchscreen or we can share the book we took a look at about this book earlier when it pops up during the first open so when you are currently reading in a book you open it for the first time about this book pops open and you can see all the details of this book I can mark this as currently reading on my Goodreads account and I can scroll down here and see more details like popular highlights and more books by this author so that is about this book we can tap at the top to get access to controls tap the three dots for more information and then we can go to notes and highlights so we can see that we have popular notes and highlights in order to make a highlight all you have to do is select a word here and highlight so you just select something that you want to highlight you can use the cursor here to control how much you want to highlight we can select this whole paragraph and use the cursor to select this whole paragraph now we can press the highlight button right here and it will highlight it for us then we can come down here and select another word it looks it up for us but we can drag it around and select pick the wrong and then we can make a note for this and say our first note and then hit save and now we've got a note for the selection pick the wrong and then we've made a highlighted selection of this text right here and when we tap the top and we tap our Three Dots and now we have an option for notes and highlights and when we go to notes and highlights we have your notes and highlights so it knows that I have selected that selection of text at location 266. it's got it right there and it's also got my note that I've created where I've selected pick the wrong right here and I can come on and tap and review that note just like that I can share I can delete it I can edit it but if we tap the top to get access to our controls tap the three dots and scroll down to notes and highlights we can get an overview of all the notes and highlights that we've currently selected in our book we can even export them right here just by pressing the export button and we'll send your notes and highlights to the email address on your Amazon account we can hit the send button and it will send that in an email just like that so that's a really cool feature once you tap the top to get access to your controls tap the three dots and now next up on the list is x-ray so we can tap on x-ray and see notable clips people terms and images and this allows us to come in and see you know important parts of the books and really review specific parts that are notable so notable Clips just like this we're now trained to keep Praise on our loved ones by using Market terminology I can come here and see that was in chapter four make gifts and scroll down and see all the notable clips that are in this book we can come down to notable people that were mentioned in the book so in the book Seven mentions of Henry David Thoreau Phil Connor Stephen sedears and more that we can scroll down just like this and see all the important people that were mentioned in the book so we can go down to terms let's see in the book different terms that were created so five mentions of Kent one mention of Boston one mention of San Francisco one mention of Texas and then of course images that were in the book um we can take a look at all the images and where they were located so it makes a really cool way of seeing an x-ray of what's in the book from notable Clips people terms and images and you can access that by tapping the top to get access to your controls tapping the three dots and going into x-ray mode just like that and then you can exit it by tapping the x button right there introducing the Kindle experience so this tool will help you learn how to navigate Kindle's features we can go ahead and hit next and see what options we have so quick access to settings tap or swipe down to quickly access controls like airplane mode sync all settings more so we just tap or swipe the top of the screen to access those settings next home library and currently reading this cover for your most recently read content will also appear here tap the cover to continue reading so your most recently read content we read keep going it appears right there in the screen and right here we have home we can go ahead and hit next and see what else we have so we can scroll left and right swipe left on the cards like this one to see more books and content swipe right to go back new quick scrolling experience navigate by tapping dragging or holding the trackpad on the scroll bar right here the more menu tap this icon to access your reading lists web browser and more right here in the top right with the three dots so that's a quick access there of some tips so we can access the latest book we read at the very bottom and shows the image you just tap on it we can scroll left or right here to access some of the latest content in our library we can scroll right here to scroll down all we have to do is Click drag we can also tap to access content there in the library and then the more section here allows us to go to your reading lists Goodreads Amazon kids web browser settings legal feel ads and we we can create a collection so we can quickly access our latest book that we ratches by tapping it at the very bottom and it opens up just like this then we can tap right to view the next page left to the previous page we can see here that we made some previous highlights and notes we can tap on that note to read it and uh pops up right here with the note in our first note and then we've got the Highlight right there to go home you just tap at the top and you press the back button and the left upper hand part just like that let's dive into some of the deeper settings here we can go over to our reading lists as the first setting once we tap the three dots and we can see our samples and Goodreads wants to read so I can see here that I've added in my Goodreads account that I want to read The Alchemist and I can tap on that and view the book details just like this and it opens up the page I can see that we have it in audible format in various different formats that we can listen to this book and read it we can go back and see that I have a sample here in my reading list I can tap that and download it and it opens up just like this you just tap on it to open and it says opening and now I have this sample that I can preview right here and I can tap to read so that's in my reading list we can take a look at other features that we have here so we tap the three dots in the top and we select Goodreads and now I can see information on my Goodreads account you've got personalized recommendations of books that I can check out based off my ratings that I've already selected on Goodreads so some books in art some biographies business books and I can go ahead and hit next and see what other options I have I can download some free samples based off the books that I want to read I'm not going to download any right now so I'll go ahead and press the skip button or I can unselect all and not download any so we'll go ahead and hit skip and then readers to follow I can follow specific readers on Goodreads and see you know this person this community here they've got 1500 books over a thousand friends the largest independent literary literary site in North America chain Carolyn I can see over here if I want to follow them I just press the follow button and I can see what books they're reading I'll go ahead and skip this for now now I can add Amazon books to Goodreads so some books that I've read I can add physical and digital book purchases to Goodreads by rating them so I can rate some of the books that I've purchased already and add them to my Goodreads account where other people can see that I have read them and what my rating of that book is so that's really cool that I can come in here and do that and I'll go ahead and skip this for now and then we'll see what's next so now I have access to my Goodreads account so Goodreads allows you to see what books you've read track the progress of where you are in those books and share with your friends all those books that you've read and see what they're they're reading too so you can see I've got 66 friends on Goodreads I've got 11 books in my account that I shelved that people know that I'm reading and then if not my recent updates where you know an hour ago I marked that I was reading the keep going book by Austin so Goodreads allows you to come in here and check out the details of your account see at the very top here my name and the 11 books in the 66 friends that I had so we can see the updates that we have on our account of what other friends and other people that I follow are reading we can see what books I've put on my shelf on my Goodreads account which means that I have added these to my account to let other people know that I'm currently reading them I can scroll down I can see that I've rated some of these books so the Steve Jobs the Steve Jobs biography I've rated 4 out of 5 Stars 1984 The Great Gatsby and more I can scroll down and see these books are currently shelved they're publicly available for any one of my friends that I'm currently good on good friends with on Goodreads can see that I'm reading them and what my rating of them are and where I am in that book and go over to recommendations and based off the books that are on my shelves and on my account I can see you know what other books they'll think that I love so they've got various different recommendations here and then of course I can see all my different friends that I have here on Goodreads so Goodreads is more like a social network for books you can come here and see all the updates of what your friends are reading you can announce your updates and add books to your shelves so your friends can see that you're currently reading them and then you can get recommendations for more books to read based off the books that you've added to your shelf and based off what your friends are currently reading so that's good reads and you can come in here and access that by hitting the three dots at the top and selecting Goodreads and it takes you to your Goodreads profile if you've logged in and created an account on Goodreads so really cool way to see what your friends are reading and a cool way to update your friends with what you're currently reading and where you are in that book next up is Amazon kit it's a personalized kit friendly reading experience I personally don't have any kids but there's various different ways that you can set up and get started you've got Amazon kids which allows you to create a child proof up to four children and protect the content that they're reading you can set reading goals check progress and earn Badges and then they've got Amazon kids plus which is starting at as low as 4.99 a month and you get thousands of popular kid-friendly titles in series we're going to start with the basic Amazon kids and see what it's like to set up a profile for your kid so it says are you sure you're eligible for a one month free trial of Amazon kids plus we're not interested in Amazon kids plus so Amazon kids plus again starts at 4.99 and allows you to get access to thousands of books for your kid but we're not going to set that up right now we're just going to use my own content so set up a parental control pin that's the first step to prevent your child from operating or opening Amazon kids settings you must set a parental control pin so we'll go ahead and do that and we'll make it simple for us to remember one two three four one two three four and then we'll hit next of course you'll want to set up a more secure pen and select a pin that works best for you that way you know your kids don't randomly guess one two three four so apparental controls help you add additional content set daily reading goals and edit your child profile and it can see here that I currently have a child profile set up on the Amazon Fire stick TV and it has currently added that person in under chess so I can modify that or I can say start reading but we're going to add a new child profile to see what that looks like so we can come in here and add and Adam I spelled that wrong I'll go ahead and type in that and then you'll enter Adam's birthday and then we'll hit OK and hit next and then after this is set up add books to Adam's Library share the books that you've purchased from Amazon for your child to read on their Kindle you can also share books remotely from parents.amazon.com so we'll go ahead and hit continue and I've got one kid friendly book in my library that we can go ahead and add and then we'll hit done so just like that Adam is currently on and now when Adam logs in they have access to only you know books that are appropriate for their age and we can go ahead and hit next so parental controls help you add additional content set reading goals and edit your child's profile so if we want to come in here and edit Adam we just press edit like this I can add various books so if I do want to add additional books that I have purchased I can come over to the all section and we can add crash your career we can scroll down and say how to land your dream internship we can add this book and then we've got an additional page here too that we can scroll down and see additional books that I have so we can add keep calling the book we were reading earlier to add-ons profile and then we just press the done button just like that and I've added you know three or four additional books that Adam can read we can come here and say daily goals so if we want Adam to read for 25 minutes 20 minutes a day 15 minutes we can come in here and do that we can turn it off or we can increase it so we'll say for five minutes a day and we'll go ahead and hit OK so now we've set a daily goal that way when Adam picks up the the Kindle you know they've got to go for five minutes of reading each day we can view the progress and achievements your child has not began reading any books in their Library so we'll go ahead and hit back we can edit the profile you know the date of birth their name and then we can come in here and delete the profile so now if we go back to the main section here if we want to enter in the mode for them to start reading if we want to enter the mode for them to start reading we just press the start reading button so Adam we've already added books to Adam's account and we press start reading right here and it allows us to enter the mode for them so after you press start reading it takes you to a personalized home and gives you a little new tour of how to check out their new settings on the kid account so you can see a lock at the top left immediately pops up I've got a personalized home where I can scroll on the home screen to see personalized recommendations tips and more based off your reading habits quick actions very similar to on our account that doesn't have any restrictions we can swipe down from the top to see all the different controls adjust the screen brightness the warmth anything you know turn on or off airplane mode in Bluetooth and then we've got Awards tap on the menu icon in the upper right of your Kindle to access Awards and reading progress so it shows this right here little three dots you tap on that to access that so we'll hit done and now hello Adam your candle is ready so we can just press this start reading button and now we're logged into the kid mode and we've got books that we currently have added you know that Adam can read and then we've got the store section where we can find other kid books that you can purchase so we can tap on crash your career and then we can get a little preview of that book and hit download and it downloads that book to the Kindle we can tap on how to land your dream internship and download this book and it adds that book to the Kindle and now Adam can come in here and start reading so we tap on it and accuse that it downloads it it gets it ready we can see there we're at zero percent and then we can currently open it up and start tracking the progress of our reading in this book so I don't get to preview of what it's like to navigate we saw this earlier welcome to your book you tap or swipe on the right screen or you tap on the side of the screen to turn to the next page and then you tap on the edge of the display at the top to access display settings or exit your book so we'll go ahead and hit done five minutes left until until your reading goal we can see we've read four percent we're in part one we can tap and start reading so Landing your internship today is unnecessarily complicated and time consuming we can come in here and read the book and it's tracking our reading progress at the very bottom to see we're at five percent now and now I can tap the top to go back to the home page it's giving us another tutorial to exit the book all you have to do is just tap the icon to exit at the very top right there so we'll go ahead and see what other options we have we cut our options in the top right it's giving Adam a tour we detailed the layout of the table of contents the bookmarks and the search and the more section earlier and then we can go ahead and hit done here and go back to the home screen so we can see that we've added these books and we can come over to the recent section and see which ones we've most recently read since we last opened how the Lander dream internship it pops open at the very bottom in the middle so when we open the Kindle we can immediately go back back to reading that latest book that we had we can take a look at the store here and see all the kid friendly books that we can purchase for this Amazon Kindle you can see we've got Diary of a Wimpy Kid we can come in here and then there's a fun little button right here where Adam can request for nine dollars and it will send the parent a notification to allow them to purchase this book so that's really neat that they can come in here and find other books they can swipe down and find as many books as they want tap on it and then request that amount you know it's nine dollars here eight dollars and fifty cents to purchase this book they can press the request button and it will send a notification to the parent allowing them to purchase it and add it to Adam's Kindle so it makes it really simple to come in here and discover new books and then read the books that you uh you know the parent has added to this Kindle account of course we can hit the more box and take a look at the awards so we can see there's tons of achievements we've got the Bookworm reach your daily reading goal read at least five minutes a day we've got the overachiever beat your daily reading goal read at least 10 minutes a day we kept the superb warm reach your daily reading goal seven days in a row you've reached your daily reading goals zero days in a row so far only seven more to go super encouraging there Elite Bookworm you've reached your daily reading goal 30 days in a row you've reached your daily reading Goal Zero days my road so far only 30 more days to go and then of course read a book finish a book to earn this achievement those are tons of tons of achievements here those are just a few just getting started Read 50 pages you've read one of 50 pages on a roll read a hundred pages and it lets us know we've read one of a hundred Pages a serious reader achievement read 500 pages we've read one of 500 pages kilo Pages read a thousand Pages you've read one of a thousand and then it's over nine thousand read ten thousand Pages you've read one of ten thousand pages so that's a preview there of the achievements that your kid can earn it motivates them to read daily and motivates them to read more often and of course they unlock these achievements as they read more we can come here and see our activity so we've got zero achievements we have daily goal minutes left four we've read one page we've read one minute zero books finished and we've looked up zero words we come over here and see which books we've read we can see the progress in that that we've got one percent of this book read complete and the total time reading was like one minute average time reading one minute and we looked up zero words so that's the awards section that's really neat to check out for the kids section that you can come in here to your kids account and check out Awards you can come over here to the vocabulary builder vocabulary builder helps you learn the awards while you read words that you love stuff in the dictionary well you read automatically appear here you can then view flashcards to review usage examples for those words to turn it off go to settings and reading options in vocabulary builder so we can go ahead and hit OK so if we open up a book and look up a word it will pop up there in the vocabulary builder so we can say a fun word to look up um we can say actionable you just hold down on that word and it looks up actionable giving sufficient reason to take legal action able to get are able to be done or acted on having practical value so now that we've looked up that word we can tap the top to go to our main settings go back home and then tap the three dots and go to vocabulary builder and actionable is here because we looked it up and it sets it up we can tap the flash card button and instantly review the words that we looked up actionable it's raw actionable and full of advice that has already been tested with several students so it gives us an example of that word and then we can see what book we learned it from how to land your dream job we can Mark as mastered if we want to get rid of this flash card or we can tap the C definition button right here and it will show us the definition again giving sufficient reason to take legal action able to be done or acted on having practical value so really fun feature for your kid to be able to use here in the vocabulary builder and of course you can tap the books and see which books you've currently looked up words from and which ones to check out and review so that's an example of how you can master your vocabulary by looking up words in books on the Kindle really fun way to look at so last but not least we have settings you can take a look at the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings you can see that airplane mode is currently off this disables all network communication so if you go on a flight you can turn on airplane mode and no longer have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on you can look at the Wi-Fi networks so this allows you to connect to a different Wi-Fi network or view any Wi-Fi network that's currently in you know if you go to a new place you can scroll down and find that Wi-Fi network and connect to it and then you can enable Bluetooth on your Kindle this is great for connecting your headphones or connecting you know a Bluetooth speaker and allowing you to hear audiobooks or audio translations that are on the device that help you you know as you touch things the Kindle will speak out what word that is so you can come down once you've connected Bluetooth devices you can add remove and view available Bluetooth devices but since we haven't connected any Bluetooth devices to this Kindle you know there's no option there it's grayed out so that's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and then we can come down learn how to use the Kindle they've got a complete guide here for the navigation that we can pop right back up and it shows us what we saw in the beginning when we opened our account in order to check out the the ways of how to use the Kindle so we can hit the x button here go right back into our settings here and see what else they have they got parental controls and of course we'll have to enter that parental pin the very hard one that we came up one two three four of course in a real world situation here we will have a more secure pin you type that in and you can come in here and modify all the different controls for the parental control settings so we can come in here and hit that edit button and modify all those different settings we're adding books set daily goals view progress edit profile or we can delete the profile so just like that we'll enter back in the mode atom right here for um one quick example here because they have a button up here that says Exit Amazon kids and of course if you do that you have to enter the parental control again to get out of this setting and they do that so if your kid is currently reading only books that you've approved if they make it you know where they can't exit and go into your account to read books that you know may not be kid appropriate so that's an overview of the you know parental control settings here on the Kindle they make it really easy to come in here and approve certain books for your kids to read and then they can come in here and earn rewards and track their progress over time as they read books on your device so really fun and motivating way to get your kid to read books right here we can come and see that we looked up one word which is nice we can tap on it and go access to the vocabulary builder just like that then we can exit out and go back to our home screening so that's been a preview there of the Amazon Kindle's parental controls and we'll go ahead and exit Amazon kids and we just type in that parental control pin that we created one two three four and hit OK and it will take us back to our home screen where we can access various different books that you know are designed for adults rather than kids and that's a fun way um you know to set different parental controls on your device and we can hit those three dots up here and go back to our settings and see what settings looks like when we're on an account that's not designed for kids so we have a lot more options in our settings we can come to our account we can see the device name its name Justice Kindle we've got personal info identify your Kindle by adding some personal info we can manage social networks share highlighted passages we can deregister the device we can manage how ads are sent and appear and we can go back we see household and family Library so two adults two children and we can come back here we see Wi-Fi and Bluetooth airplane mode so we saw that earlier on the kit account we've got device options and then we also have reading options language and dictionaries accessibility parental controls help in user guides so a ton of features here in the settings that we can take a look at that adults have access to that kids do not have access to the next setting if we go back home here and tap the three dots at the top we have the web browser so we can click on the web browser and visit you know Amazon Wikipedia Google we go head over to Wikipedia and see what options are there it makes it really fun to visit the web right on your Amazon Kindle so the only downside though is there's no color so you can't really see you know images or any um you know access there and you can scroll down and view the web right here on your Kindle device we can even tap the address bar here and type in any address that we want to so we can hit the delete button and just like a normal web browser we can type in the website that we want to go to and view it here on the Kindle because it has access to Wi-Fi so we can type in our own website right here app kind of VIP and press enter and head over to our own website right here on the Kindle and it loads just like this if you're not subscribed to our app find newsletter you can do so using the link in the description at app funvip.com and you can join today so really cool that you can browse the web right here on the Kindle you just type in any address that you want to go to and you open up the web browser and you can do that the only downside though is there is no color so you've got full access to the web here and we can exit out of the web browser just like that and quickly access it by tapping the three dots and then tapping web browser and it opens up the latest page that we had right here we can head over and you know the refresh button if we want to refresh or we can tap at the top to type in a new URL so we can type in google.com and press enter and it will open up the Google web page and we come in here and search for something on Google so we've got a fully functional web browser built right into your Kindle because it is connected to Wi-Fi in a really neat access point there that we can come in here and you know use the internet so it makes it really fun if you're reading a book and you want to look something up you can do that quickly on the web browser we've got an option here where we can go to browser settings we can bookmark this page see all the bookmarks that we currently have we can view the history and we can go into article mode so if I go into the browser settings we can clear history we can clear cookies we can disable JavaScript we can disable images so that's a preview of the web browser on the Amazon Kindle you just tap the three dots and you tap web browser and you have full access to the web browser I like that so we can see what other features we have here we've got settings legal and view all ads so if we go into settings let's take a deep dive here of all the settings here on the Amazon account we can identify your Kindle by adding some personal information to it so I can say first Kindle and hit save just like that we can manage with social networks I can send highlights to so Goodreads Facebook account is locked please visit goodreads.com and sign in before proceeding here so right now I have connected to Goodreads I can tap on that to view the connection settings and you can connect to share book excerpts seamlessly so I can unlink my Goodreads account if I don't want to share content on Goodreads but we'll keep a Goodreads connected and from there I can share content to Goodreads within the Amazon App we can take a look at the next setting here we can de-register the device which will remove your Amazon account from this Kindle we don't want to do that because that will then remove all of our books and it'll offer data so not to that you'll want to do that if you're you know kind of transfer your Kindle to another owner so if you give it to a family member or friend or you sell your device you'll press the deregister button to remove all of your information and remove the Amazon account from this Kindle and then the new owner can log in with their Amazon account and set up their books and their profiles on the new device that they have received we can manage how ads appear on your Kindle so this we do have ads on this Kindle if you purchase a Kindle without ads then you won't have to worry about this but there's a feature here called add filtering where you can hide ads containing images or situations that may not be suitable for all audiences and then you can add personalized ads display personalized ads on items you've browsed or purchased so on the lock screen it adds to appear when we lock this device or it goes into screen saver mode an ad appears and then we've got the send to Kindle email send documents to your Kindle using this email below and go to amazon.com to change your settings so those are the options in your account we can review household in Family Library where it shows all of the family members that you have and your um your household in Liberia and then we can add a new person and we can see we've got different child accounts set up here so you can go back we can see Wi-Fi and bluetooth settings we took a look at this in the kids mode section but we've got airplane mode Wi-Fi networks delete Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth and then we can those are the Quick Settings since I tap the top of the screen here the Quick Settings drop down but we'll tap the back button to go back and now we've got device options we can click on this we can see the device info view information about the Kindle we got the warmth schedule schedule the front light to automatically shift between cool and right cool white and warm Amber we've got a device passcode if we want to protect the content on the Kindle it's not enabled right now but every time you log in you'll enter a device passcode and if you turn that on you can set the device time set the local time on your Kindle you can restart the Kindle or you can reset the Kindle to its original settings and restart it and then you've got Advanced options for home and Library manage device power storage Kindle updates privacy and Whisper sync we can tap on that and view those options here home library and they've got various different options so we can come in here and check out from group series and live areas to how collections are shown in library in the audible content so multiple settings that you can come in here and update we've got whisper sync for books automatically use data from this device to provide features through with sync that's enabled we've got power saver a low power sleep mode to conserve battery life and then privacy which use personal data collected by device operating system for marketing and product Improvement so those are your Advanced options that we can come in here and take a look at and we can go back out and see what other settings we have we've got the reading options where we've got the page refresh refresh the display with every page turn and then the vocabulary builder where we remember Dictionary lookups you can come back and see that we've got language and dictionaries the language currently is set to English you can change that we've got the keyboard set for different languages we've got one keyboard that's the English keyboard and then dictionary so the default dictionary for each language and then Chinese sort order set the sort order for Chinese content so we can go back and see accessibility settings we can tap on that so voice view screen reader provides spoken feedback when you touch items on the screen we can invert black and white and inverts the text image and Page colors on all screens and then we've got parental controls what we which we've explored a lot from Amazon kids to restrictions and of course we can change the pin that we set up so in Amazon kids you can come in here and you know add that subscription to your account and modify the settings in the parent control options so we'll tap the three dots to go back to our settings and parent controls are right there and then those are all the Deep settings that we have here on the Amazon Kindle and go over the help to get more guides to help us use we've got different tutorials here and the Kindle user guide to learn the functionality so we'll go ahead and hit the exit button and take one last tour here of our Kindle we've got the search at the top where we can come in here and search for a book or highlight or note that we have so we can come in here and search size and then we'll press enter and then it shows results from the Kindle store we got zero results from my library and then results from the audible store text and books so there's multiple ways that we can search for things here on our Kindle we hit the x button and scroll through books from my live from our library and then we've got an option to discover new books recommend it for you most read um you can try unlimited reading and listening from the Kindle unlimited free trial so they've got various different options that you can come here scroll through find new books see what books you currently have and of course she's at the library section to see all the books that you currently own and let you scroll right here within the Kindle app so it's a really nice way to come in here and read all of your content you can tap on it and if we remember earlier we just tap to the right to move to the next page we tap to the left or we swipe to the right or swipe to the left and then we tap the top to get access to all of our controls so the Kindle has been really fun to set up and to learn how to use and you can come in here and you know purchase new books right here on your Kindle add them to your library and get set up so if we were to add a book we would come down and search for it or select one that's recommended we can scroll down here and see top reading comic titles you can keep scrolling and find the best book for us books that read great on Kindle so getting to zero we can tap on this book and we can review it it offers the book details it says that you can purchase it for 99 cents and it will add it to your library we can search for a book we can come up here and type in work and then press enter and then it shows us the results the results from the Kindle Store they've got over 50 000 books here and you just tap on the book that you want and it pops up the description of it the author all the details this book is great on Kindle and of course it has the buy button where you can purchase it this book's 4.99 and you can scroll down and see even more customers also bought these different books and then sponsor products related to this item all the reviews the book so it makes it really fun to come in here and
