the couch with couch I am here in Branson Missouri at praise fest I got Kim Collingsworth with me thank you for doing this kids are so welcome we have been trying to make this interview happen for a few years we've tried all the crews we've tried at nqc and it just you just never know it's tough it gets so busy and things are happening and going on it sometimes it just doesn't happen but we got in to help it today here now I just want to let you all know what we're talking here you may hear some background noise we've got sound checks going on we've got catering getting ready for tonight so that's part of the experience of being on the couch with that you never know what's going to be happening Kim y'all have been traveling for 20 years 20 years ago when you and Phil started out on this journey what was the dream what was the the goal in mind well there you know I'm not sure I can answer that 20 years ago Phil came home from his job and I knew the Lord had been talking to him and he guys really talking to me and I said what's he saying and he said I think he wants me to quit my job and I was like we had a we had the little kid you know and I'm thinking that's not God you're crazy and I told him at one point I said there's a fine line between God's will and stupidity and you're about to cross it and he's like Kim I'm serious I think I really wanted to do this and so we prayed for a long time and I'm kind of like saying God if this is you you're not to talk to me to because it's a big deal how are we gonna feed our family however going to take care of our kids I'm gonna you know all the questions are done with that and long story short the Lord started really talking to me and he started closing doors right before my eyes and opening ones over here shutting this opening this and I was going oh my word you know I think my husband's right that's a hard thing for a woman to say I'm cute and so you know what he quit his job and I don't know that we had ten days looked and we said I told God Selma I had a whole lot of conversations with God but I told him if this is a joke the joke's on you because we're trying to follow what we think you're telling us to do and so when you say what was the dream uh-huh to survive yeah I mean I mean I check the paycheck put food on the table we truly wanted to follow God but it was one of the scariest things you've ever done well I kind of felt like Peter okay God if this is you you want me to step out of the boat command me to come because this is ridiculous yeah and now 20 years later God has just been more than supplied needs and they're blessed blessed your guys ministry it's awesome to see it though just what 20 years can bring you never know thank you Jesus I mean he's absolutely been faithful so every night you guys are you just enter any random city across the country you're getting ready to walk out on the stage what is the thought process that goes on in your mind as you're getting ready to go out on stage and present your ministry your songs your music that the Lord has given to you guys to record and share with people welcome the Watchers of this interview welcome through that process that you go through well my thought process is about two or three o'clock in the afternoon we shut down everything that had does not pertain to the concert and we start getting serious and that's not boring that's a necessary assess atif or us and we start thinking and praying because every night will be different I might say they might sing 10 of the 10 songs and a consecutive order one night and the next night we might only sing three of those songs and add seven different ones just don't really know what's gonna happen and so the thought process is God show us what to sing you know who's sitting in the seats we don't have a clue and not what sometimes what we sang last night it's not gonna fly people night and so that's the thought process a lot of them every day every night and probably one of the things that weighs on me the heaviest because you know a lot of people are always saying oh I want you to play a big piano number and I want you and not always this God want me to play a big piano number and people you know sing your head while I know what it is half the time you know what's ahead yeah but and that's okay and you want to sing the songs that people know you for and that they love you for you do want to do that but sometimes that's not always the plan that God wants us to go it's not the road he wants us to take for that night and you know what though I found this interesting that when we follow the leaving of the Holy Spirit usually everybody leaves the building going I feel like I've been to church now why didn't you sing such and such because the people from the stage to the back row realize that the Lord has visit us tonight no maybe we didn't sing what they thought we were going to sing so that's my thought process is God show us what to sing and I'm not trying to make this so serious I'm telling you it's a responsibility isn't it yeah absolutely it's a responsibility yeah I guess fortunately unfortunate append on how you look at it I don't have to worry about that as a person that doesn't have to call songs or make up the program if you will or whatever as we're going along for me it's just whatever track hits that's what I start singing I don't know what's going whatever JT hits and JT is video on this horse tonight well done Jamie you're doing great whatever song he he starts with I just started singing so I can't imagine you know the I guess in a way the weight that you just want to make sure that you're doing the right thing and following what is right because at the end of the night you want everybody to leave but you said just feeling like man this has been a great place to be - yeah I feel so refreshed yes and you know I think it would be easier to be able to go out and sing a setlist the same one every night I know it would seem to me would be easier now Christmas we have Christmas you know you there's only so many Christmas songs yeah and so we do a small gospel section in our Christmas concerts but pretty much we know how its kind of open and how it's going in because it's Christmas so because of that me and the Christmas tour is a lot easier on me but I'm telling you these other ones you know it's easy to get burnt out by just singing the same old things every night and I think you know guys got so much more for me than that and so what is it that but I'll tell you what I have found out I usually don't ever get burned out doing what I do I get burned out when I forget why I'm doing why I'm doing it yeah that makes sense you know saying and so uh if we can go out there - okay God what is it for tonight it's kind of it's awesome the Holy Spirit is always refreshing you've got a bunch of people on the bus with you and so for those watching maybe they don't know just how many people are in the Collingsworth family and who they are give the folks a rundown of who is only calling for a family bus with you well there's a total of twelve that includes the bus driver and he's also family he has my brother-in-law and my kids uncle so there you have that that's my husband and myself it's our four kids it's three of them are married so it's their three spouses and we have two grandbabies and so that totals the twelve okay you know we get people asking every weekend do spouses get to go with you and I always say the same thing could you imagine we've already got seven or eight men on this 45 foot bus could you imagine adding everybody's spouse or everybody bring a kid or whatever I'm just like I can't wrap my mind around 12 people but that is your guy's life it's every weekend it's 12 people on that bus and to those grandkids are I mean how old are they or in 18 months so therefore I can't imagine having babies on the bus at all that what kind of circus that might be at times well you know what I gotta tell you this then Lily Isaac's if she watches this she'll get a kick out this but we were singing for the Gators one night at praise fan our family fest and she said to me this is before we had any in laws and no grandchildren was just for kids mom and dad we didn't have a driver and so she said to me we've got 14 people on our bus this weekend and I'm never going 14 people where do you sit where do you sleep and now I have 12 and I'm going wow this is this is what she was talking about I don't know I don't got two more though I'm like oh man that would be a lot so it's time for a second bus yes sir actually that is in the works in the plane there you go I mean when you you skate as soon as your Olivia gets married now you got another personal and then it start having a bunch more kid grandkids running around and you know before you know you got 15 to 20 people hanging out on the bus so you're gonna have to do something well you know I put them in a trailer or in the bed here's my thing and again I took out if this if it's not if it's just none of you in the it's a joke it's on you but we serve a really really big guy okay my first human thing is two buses Wow how is that gonna work how's it you know you know how much it cost to put fuel in them that's not a complaint that's just a reality do you know how much it cost of maintenance them you do do you know how much it costs just buy one then I got to thinking you know what it was a big deal when they asked us to quit fulfilling his job all those years ago and say just trust me and so when he calls you he assumes the responsibility to handle it so it's on him and if he wants us to continue he'll either grow the bus about 20 feet longer or he's gonna provide second night in and night out you've got your four kids onstage with you singing and they are all great singers in their own right and so when you step back and your four kids step out there and take a song just the four of them I can't imagine the excitement I mean you'reyou're proud of them tell us what does that mean for a mother's heart to see your four kids doing so well and what they do serving the Lord with you in ministry and watching them step out and and sing a song that's gonna Minister - who knows hundreds of people sitting in the audience that night you know it's almost surreal I gotta be honest there as human as the next Joe and all that you know we all are but when you know that they were ten nine six and to whom we started 20 years ago and I just prayed they stayed on tune they sang the lead I sang the out tone filtered the other part so that's how we did the harmonies so to see them now it's just literally owning it and it's it's their thing and they'll come out on the bus and say man I did not say I'm good on that solo tonight and I'll say to him what do you think went wrong and I may have noticed you know how they could have done this or that well I think I think I said you know what you're really owning this because you're correcting yourself now and your and the other thing I've noticed is you know one time we ran into a place where we didn't have time to pray we were literally in such a rush and the piano was out of tune that night the concert in my opinion was born and we've always kind of as a family honestly we were so neat we've still so needy but we were so needy when we started out honestly it was not cool singing with ten nine six and two year olds I mean it was not musically cool it was like touching go every night and so we pray every night oh god help us if you don't help us we're toast you know so now here all this time later we didn't have time this night we ran in got the product set up here whatever and we were on stage what we blinked we didn't pray together as a family and when we can I thought was an awful concert and but the people were so kind and I thought the exact like they enjoyed it so much well we were the last people to leave the building and our kids were already on the bus Phil and I got to the bus opened the door in Courtenay was standing at the top of the steps and she said mom dad we're not singing another note till we get down on our knees discount and we pray she said that was the worst concert we've ever had it I mean she just gave us a tongue lashing and I looked over at Phil and I said he's telling us and it was a humbling thing for me to say well okay they're kidding it they're kidman they realize that our strength comes over and we really stink in the human it's Vic so you know we all do anyway so yes in answer to your question it's almost surreal but I thank God I know how human they are but I know how much they love Jesus and it's it is the book of John says I have no greater joy that my children walk in truth that's absolutely my heart yeah and I the reason I ask that it's kind I can only imagine what the excitement within you you know night after night to see that and just to get to enjoy that even though you're part of it I'm sure you're still moments that you catch yourself saying this is so cool and I do I do film and I sometimes they look at each other they sing a song apartment I can trust Jesus which is an old song we've done for a long time and when they're singing that I I know some of the things that their deal in their 20s and I know some of the issues they're dealing with and I see them singing the cows I can trust Jesus it is it's a moment fulfilling me both you're not only known for your vocal abilities but like you mentioned earlier night after night folks are saying what are you going to play on the piano tonight we want to hear this we want to hear that besides what everyone else wants to hear what him does Kim Collingsworth love to play probably how great they are would trump anything I've ever played for my heart because it so magnifies Jesus the lyric I always say when the people leave the building I don't want them to say oh you were so great tonight oh that was a great car I want him to say oh he is so great and so that's probably my favorite what classical piece would you put at the top of your list to play and I don't know you know I am I love kinds of music I haven't played in my class I I kind of intertwine some classical stuff into my butt but to say I've played this piece for years or that piece not really I do love the moonlight sonata she's heard you play that so beautiful but man that's a great question that I need it put you on the spot a little bit yeah I need to have better answer for that because I'm not sure well maybe you can maybe you can answer this one I'm sure a lot of the folks watching are piano players in their own right and whether regardless of what scale where they're at on the scale of a piano player I'm sure you can give them one tip that will help them besides just sit down to practice what one tip would you give to those that are watching that are piano players well yeah I would say practice that's for sure that's practice practice practice is the big deal and I'm sure your children have heard that a lot as well yes but I'll tell you this there's a scripture in the Bible that says he who plays skillfully will play the four kings no there's another one that says he who sings skillfully will play before kings now I always said to my kids we're not trying to play before kings we're really playing for the king but if you hone what you know and you continue to make yourself the best you can be it may not always say I'm not the best piano player by a longshot when you if you would compare my technical things with other musicians I probably would come down on the scale because there's piano players that can outplay me all day but I will tell you this there might not be a piano player that is more more serious about making sure that what I do I do the best of my ability and I don't think God public-wise us to be the best but to do our best and so if you continue to hone what you know and always trying to stretch yourself stretch yourself don't stay in the little box and do the things you've always done stretch yourself and turn right now I'm learning a new piece of music for our Christmas tour it's rocking my world it's rocking my world but it's making me go oh wow this is a challenge this is the challenge and I love a challenge like this so my one thing to say is yeah practice and the second thing I would say is be the absolute best you can be don't slack don't slack on it I don't think I know that I'll just get out there and women you know just shoot from the hip be the very best you can be and I think that is where that scripture it's true think about this we see somebody that is so exceptionally good at what they do say it's a vocalist say it's a speaker we don't really find them speaking to five people in the corner of the earth we go hear them and how many thousands of people are saying they're going did you hear that because they're skillful at what they do and tensional so be intentional that's what I said last question I have for you then we will let these folks go guys thank you so much for watching if you've enjoyed it hit the like button comment share this hit subscribe if you're on YouTube all that the last question that I have for you and I know the folks are gonna enjoy this what is one thing that folks do not know about Kim Hollingsworth that you wish they would understand or get to know about you say you want everyone to know probably there's several things I could say but probably the one thing is that a lot of people just see me on stage but to be honest long before I'm a musician I'm a wife and a woman and I love that role those two roles more than anything else in the world I love I love going home and cleaning the house and cooking for Phil and you know just taking care of my kids and my grandbabies and I just that is me fall away and then my music kind of comes two or three or four down on the chart so that's probably what the other thing is I love to play so are you that that person that has to have the exact right ping-pong paddle nope nope I'll take whatever I get I was raised poor our paddles were broken did you ever use your hand I don't think it'd probably smack my brother okay yeah this has been awesome thank you for joining a great time tell these folks where they can to catch up with you in when you were just speaking about being a mom and a grandma and everything it made me think of some of the videos and the photos that you guys post on Facebook so tell them where they can heal okay so the cosmic family is obvious on Facebook and on Instagram and on Twitter and I am so technically illiterate that I can't tell you what's a dick so while those are but if you go to lists you'll find it yes I'll say if you just go whatever is the platform of choice for you if you just type in the Collingsworth family you know they're the only ones out there I think that's the telling for a family doing what they do so I think you'll find them it's been a pleasure it's been a delight and I'm sure it's colleagues we're family done so go to a concert if you haven't caught on before check them out thank you for watching on the couch with couch and until next time god bless you all and have a wonderful day [Music]
