today we're going to play some chords on the mega drone i did that in the 24 hour live stream which has been lost to the stands of time but it feels like a prime time to yeah just get the chords going so first off uh the names on the knobs yeah finally there is a website and a list of all of the names on the knobs it turns out there was quite a few spelling mistakes which meant some people couldn't find them and uh yeah i tried looking through it and uh going through the patreon comments and sorting this out and then the ones that i just couldn't find that just uh i'm sure they're here somewhere i've written them on the red knobs and photoed them so they are up on the website as well so all of the names of my patreons up to this point are now on the mega drone well the next one that i'm going to be doing it to is this project the game boy mega machine so if you want your name on the gameboy mega machine then just become a patreon on any tier even just for a month and you will become a knob so whilst i'm setting this up to play chords well let's multitask a bit and go and have a look at building one of the pcv panel projects for building your very own mega drone right so this is everything we're gonna need it's got all the components including the resistors the potentiometers the capacitors the mosfets and the pcb and panel projects start with the smallest parts first this means pop in the resistors the diodes and the small capacitors in and there you go soldering away a little bit bit by bit making sure all of the solder joints are nice and well and looking proper and neat and lovely traveling and just keep on going and then snip snip slip away i just uh you know just be neat and careful with this and it should work perfectly fine and then pop in the moss fetch you might want to put sockets on these but you don't have to i've just soldered them straight in as long as you're rather careful you'll be okay and then snip slippery snip snip snip snip and then after that let's pop in all of the other uh components including the uh power supply sockets and remember if you are struggling there is a forum so go and join it if you want to build and then pop in the capacitors these are the pitch capacitors i've gone for 10 microfarad but you can go for anything the smaller the capacitor the higher the oscillator anyway let's keep on going let's pop in the transistors now you can put these in any time and then lovely jubbly and then pop in the potentiometers and the leds but make sure you don't solder them in yet because you need to put the panel on top and bolt the panel together before you sold room or you'll be in for a nasty surprise so pop the uh bolts in and then after that then you solder all of the potentiometers and leds in just to make sure it all lines up perfectly and then you pop in the knobs these could be any knobs i go for these funky ones and the links to these are in the bill of materials and then lovely chubby you're done and it should sound like this anyway back to the thousand oscillators now it's time to tune by ear some funky sounding chords i'm not really going to concentrate on what the chords are i'm just gonna make uh chord harmonies with the way i feel and then add them all together at the end and just see if we can make something with it [Music] right that's only 40 oscillators so that means there's another 960 to go to make them in tune and that's already taken about five minutes so i guess i'll see you in about an hour [Music] so i spent the past hour or so making separate chords on each of the columns so there's 10 chords all together i didn't use a tuner because you know the 12th notes well you know they're always up for debate so i've just gone with what sounds good because who cares and i've tuned within the chords like different chords so they actually don't sound like chords they just sound like mush and if anybody could define any of these chords then please do let me know so within each of the columns of the chords there are 10 panels of 10 oscillators which means there's 100 oscillators per chord per column [Music] so the chord down here i like to call the bread advert chord because i swear it's in every single bread advert that you hear it's like yo hey bread you're getting the lows and you just sort of bring in different aspects of the chord so now i'm going to show you all the different chords on the mixing desk so right here we have 10 channels of the ten columns of the hundred oscillators on the thousand oscillator mega drone so when we turn one of these up for instance we'll get a certain chord or why not both of them at the same time and then bring us [Music] [Music] so as well as that we have the voltage control over the crescendos using this power supply that's going straight into the control voltage inputs of the whole killer drone we're able to sort of bring up and down climaxes [Music] [Music] [Music] so so [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] that's pretty cool what's gonna happen if i turn all the chords on at the same time i don't know let's find out so there we go and it's actually harmonizing with itself you sort of forget it's a synth i was really quite surprised about how much you sound like a string orchestra obviously there's a mountain of other things to try with this machine and this is just scratching the surface and over this time hopefully we'll find everything that he's capable of doing i think the next step is adding vcas into the mix so you're able to bounce between the different things quite quickly i did that with the game boy mega machine over the course of the next year hopefully there's going to be some residencies and people are going to be able to give this a go by themselves for a couple of days and sort of try out ideas that they want to do with it i think the next episode of this is going to be building the center console that people are going to be able to control because i have a feeling if i let people run riot twisting knobs it's just going to be a nightmare to keep in tune i recorded all of the audio directing for this and i've made separate sections for each of the chords and that audio is available to download if you want to use it and sample it and stuff over on my patreon and the support from that goes straight back into the projects and the museum that is soon to open and you get a name on a knob well what else would you want pcb and panel sets are available so you can build your own if you want more than one i've got a few batches of 10 b stock ones and if you want those please get in contact on the website if you want to build 100 oscillator mega drone i don't know but yeah as always i've been look mum no computer that's the killer drone if you like this please subscribe and don't be scared to try
