What up dudes? The Ghost King is currently the most difficult foe in Dark and Darker. If you take a red portal down to Hell or B3, in the center of the map you will find a boss arena that can spawn either the Lich or the Ghost King. So you geared up with some friends and decided to give it a shot, but probably had to go something like this... "Bats! Jump!" "Aww noo" The fight seems difficult at first, but once you understand the mechanics majority of the damage can be avoided. This footage is from the end of alpha playtest number three so things are surely subject to change, but hopefully this can provide some baseline to go on for the future. For our clear we ran Barb, Ranger, and Cleric. As a Ranger I ran two bows so I could swap without reloading the quiver and we had our Cleric run cleanse as it seems to work for clearing the curse debuff that can be very deadly. Bring a ton of shield and health potions so you can spam them during the fight and help your clerics save their heals. The shield potions I feel are crucial, try to keep one up pretty much at all times. Also make sure to bring a campfire to top up your Cleric's spells and try to use it before entering the red portal or while loading into B3 to save time. Once you enter B3 you want to get to the boss room as quickly as possible without wasting time. The circle will close in fairly quickly and sometimes you may just want to come back and try for a better zone. Fortunately or unfortunately.. a lot of the time the final zone does end up being in this boss room. "Grab the protection Shrine and go in first Gara" Before heading into the boss room have your Cleric cast a buff or two and everyone pop their shield potions. I recommend dropping any hotbar items you won't be using so you don't accidentally pull out the wrong potions during the fight. Most of the time when the first person enters the room, the boss will do it's teleport attack. The boss will target a player and a light will briefly shine on the location the Ghost King is about to teleport to. This attack can easily be avoided entirely by running away if you notice it's targeting you. This is an AOE attack that will hit any nearby teammates as well so it's important to not clump up and spread out as much as possible. Also whenever the Ghost King does this attack he leaves a blue circle on the ground that you do not want to stand in. The boss arena can fill up with these blue circles rather quickly covering almost the entire floor space if you are not careful about your positioning. I recommend trying to stick as far to the edges as possible so that he will spawn the circles on the outside giving you much more safe room to fight in as the battle goes on. But what exactly do the blue circles do? I can't give you the math but while you are standing in the circle and every time you are hit by the boss it applies stacks of a curse debuff which you can see above the character icons on the bottom left. Getting hit by the boss will give a couple stacks of the curse, but standing in the circles for even a few seconds can quickly accumulate 20 plus stacks. The more of these curse stacks you have on you, the more damage the Ghost King will do to you. A Cleric can cleanse this, but it will also just go away if you do not get hit or step on a blue circle for a few seconds. Every so often the Ghost King will do an unavoidable scream attack that hits the entire party for a small chunk of their health. This scream will do higher damage based off how many curse stacks you have and 20 plus stacks will most certainly lead to a one shot no matter the class. Running through the circles is not a big deal, but do not stand in it or you will most likely die. Occasionally he'll throw in one of these orb attacks where the Ghost King will target one player and shoot a line of 5 orbs in their direction. This one doesn't hit too hard and can be avoided pretty easily if you keep moving and strafing but is another reason you should spread out from your teammates during this fight. This next mechanic is super easy to avoid if you know it's coming, but can definitely lead to death if you don't pay attention. When the Ghost King forms this bubble around him that looks similar to a shield potion buff, he will target one player and begin to chase them. Whichever player is targeted needs to press X to sheath their weapon and run away from the boss. If the boss gets too close and catches the player he will bind you in place and drain your health. If you immediately begin spamming heals through the bind you can actually live through it. However if you get binded on top of a blue circle you will accumulate too many curse stacks and when he follows the bind with a scream attack you will die. This last attack the Ghost King does is the most difficult and will probably be what make or breaks the fight for your group. When the Ghost King teleports up into the air in the center of the the room he is about to do his most deadly jump attack. This attack does a lot of damage and can only be avoided if you jump right when he slams the ground. You need to look for the blue sparks that appear above his head before he slams down. If you jump right at the moment these sparks appear, you will dodge the attack entirely. If you survive the jump the Ghost King will have spawned three bats into the room that you want to take out as quickly as possible. Having your Cleric run holy purification to quickly AOE the bats worked pretty good too. The jump is by far the hardest part of the fight, but once you get the timing down this Ghost King guy really ain't so bad. Focus up, spam those shield potions, and pump as much DPS as you can, and you and your party will be enjoying the spoils of Hell in no time! "Definitely need heals now" "I need more heals" "I'm out of heals" "Jump again!" "Run run! It's on you!" "Nooo! That's not what I meant to use!" "I'm dead." "Oh my god! We did it! Ahh!" "Legendary war maul, and a purple helmet for ya Gara!" "We did it boys!" There's a bunch of chests around the boss room that can also contain some high tier loot, as well as a gold pile that you can loot endlessly for as long as the zone allows. Make sure your inventory has a good amount of space when looting these gold piles, if you don't have room for the item you receive nothing will drop at all. We have yet to try the High Roller Ghost King, but I'm gonna assume the mechanics are all the same and it will mostly come down to having good enough gear. I'll update the description below as I get more information on this. But that should cover everything hope this is helpful to fellow dungeon divers out there! I'll have a video covering the Lich Boss coming soon so if you found this useful a Like and Subscribe is much appreciated and will help you catch all the future Dark and Darker content to come! Thanks for watching my dudes and take 'er easy!
