[Music] so uh it's been quite a day i'm gonna start putting this uh mx13 back together [Music] this packer mx13 what we decided to do on this for those of you who don't know what's going on this one had diesel fuel in the coolant and talking to many many people and listening to many people within the comment section and actually one of the guys overseas knew one of the heads these pack cars are pretty much a daf engine and uh one of the head engineers that was one of the production engineers for this engine told one of the viewers he knows him and said that almost rare to non-existent that problem happening getting fuel in the cooling on these engines so um talking to the owner now one of these i don't know if it's still in here but he said that he had a gallon of red diesel fuel behind the seat yep it's in a dillo that's probably it there and that dillo jig maybe not there it is back there it's in the xerox dude it's not antifreeze he said the z-rex joke that's what it was the z-rex jug had red diesel in it because he said he was losing fuel on this filter and he was well one of these filters he was losing fuel and i think it was this one he was probably pulling this cap off and filling this filter back up [Music] so just you know what we're going to do is we're going to put it back together we're going to i've got i ordered i've got the new i didn't have the barring tool like i said i i'm a cummins cat guy detroit pack ours new territory for me so we got the barring tool and uh i got the injector coppers and i can't believe they're using injector coppers like a dam you know like an old style copper that goes on the end of the injector never seen that on a big engine for a long time but i got all new fuel lines i had some guy make comments you only have to change the fuel lines if you're changing injectors well i don't know maybe that's so light the book says to change them and then all the people that i know that work on these all the time they said change them or you'll regret it and then torque them too when you put them on so anyway that is the gist of that we are in the process i got a number five and six fuel lines i haven't got out yet but i'm not even gonna worry about that yet right now i'm gonna go ahead and um i'm gonna go ahead and get the top cleaned up um get the engine rolled around i got to pull the plate off the bell housing and there's a marks on there i'll i'll see if i can do the best i can to video that and then get it rolled around number one top dead center and uh we'll start putting the rockers back on it we'll put the injectors in it and then we'll put the uh rockers on it and adjust the valves and i don't know how to read the book i'm not sure if these if these are set up like a cummins or you kind of have to put your fuel line in and you know do a pre-torque on the injector and then do a pre-torque on the line then go back and do a final torque on the injector then a final clock in the line i'm not real sure if these pack cars are set up like that here's the injectors i still got to clean these up they kind of got a hole in them you know it's kind of set up just like any other common row you see so anyhow i'll start putting her back together a little plate off here huh cold got the little plate off buddy come here come here buddy partner yes she's a good boy just a good boy yes you are you're a good boy i know give me a good look for a gun okay [Music] all right so i can see two and five here's a timing pointer right here there's a there's i can see a two and five there so let's see if i can get the old tulage up in there [Music] i see let's see if you're going clockwise i gotta get it hold on a second guys see if i can get the camera yeah let's set it right there on top of that there that's your axle right there out of work huh maybe i don't know you probably still can't see nothing there there she locked in so the flywheel would be turning counterclockwise viewed from the rear spring loaded there's two and five so actually we're going the wrong way that's a lot nicer than turning tool works pretty good should be coming up to three and four there's three and four so let's get around to one and six and we'll see where we're at we got here td c one and six all right [Music] well let me see i don't know if you can see anything there or not this upper radios is kind of in the way of everything and that's about all i can really do there's really nowhere else well maybe how about that we'll put her over here maybe try it over here see if that would work [Music] that might work huh all right so i got new o-rings and coppers and all that stuff on the injectors 30 newton meters plus 90 degrees on the hold down crab for the injector let's start out here and when i'm taking these out and putting them back in i'm sure this is like any other newer style any kind of fuel system or these have all got trim files per injector so i put them in like they came out you know kept kept those in order 30 newton meters pretty much everything's torque turned now i'm automotive guys they they use a lot of torque to yield where you gotta constantly buy bolts but go ahead and get all six of them at 30 newton meters and let me lay my torque wrench down this thing likes to be steel when you're switching to the torque angle angle zero require torque all right so it's set at 150 degrees because those wonderful perkins engines that's quite a torque sequence on those things that ar 1000 or 1000 series uh six cylinder i think you torque the you torque the long ones on it you see you torque you torque them all down to like 80 foot pounds is what it was 80 or 85 foot pounds and uh now we're going to go 90 degrees this torque wrench is such a just what a lifesaver this door princess is if you don't got one of these you gotta get one but uh that that perkins you perk torque them all down in sequence i think there's like 30 something head bolts on it and then you there's three different lengths there's a medium there's a short medium and a long the [Music] the short ones you go 150 torque turn the medium ones go 180 and then the long ones go 210 degrees and they're not a really big engine those ar 1000 it's just you're still tired by the time you're done with all all the torquing most i'd like to use a a torque wrench or you know something like that and do them by hand if i can but on these bigger engines like that i'm gonna lie to you i make a mark on the you know i make a mark on the socket that come in socket i got it's already made for it it already has the mark on it and you can put a mark on the cylinder head or something and if you can get your socket 90 degrees out just line your marks in you know if you've got 90 degrees you know all right so those are all torqued down so let's get the book and i'm on i'm on one six right now that's what i'm not we're on that so we got the injectors back in there tighten the injector pmci and i got this see this is a cd-rom disc i got it from on ebay where's the disc tray at i think it's called mechanic star on ebay pack our mx13 eba 10 diesel engine they're all pdf files installing bridge valve train okay i gotta install all the valve bridges that's what i gotta do so let me grab all them valve bridges and start putting them on all right what is our next obviously it's going to be rockers now they tell you i've done this before on certain engines i remember doing this that you can roll your engine around the different accessory drive marks that way if you're on the flat part of the lobe of the cam you don't have like an intake valve or exhaust valve open then you don't have to back the adjusters off on the rockers which i still got to get these to solid tank clean these up the mark on the flywheel back there where the barn tool is on one and six so basically if you read the service manual over here it says you can what we're gonna do here is we're gonna we didn't back any of these rockers off and the book doesn't say to most engines i do but i was just reading along with that and going along with what it said which makes sense um basically what you do is we'll we'll put we'll put i got number six on right now you can't see it but i'm gonna throw number one all right i'll show you what i'm talking about here in the book so i got number six rocker on there so if you're going up here you read this in the service manual depending on the position some rocker seats must be positioned against the pressure of the valve springs the rocker seat will resist this pressure and therefore cannot be positioned correctly by cranking crankshaft third of a turn each time using a special tool so basically you put it on one or six and you can put rockers number one and six on and then you can put rocker number two and five on when you're in the two open five position there's gonna be a little bit of tension on number one because it's in valve overlap but it's it's not much i mean you're not going to hurt it you're not going to bend the push water valve on on number and valve overlap because it's not like when the valve is completely open like on like intake stroke or something like that so i'm trying to tell you but let me get my i'm kind of waiting for a phone call i got a guy that px 9 engine front clip is supposed to be delivered this morning so i'm going to have to fire the truck up to unload him so i'm kind of waiting for him to call me this one's kind of hard to kind of hard to see and get to here where is that other push rod at there's the dowel right there turn the little light on make sure i'm in the push rod over here there is a little bit of tension on that yeah maybe i'll run it around i don't know i think most of it's just tight on the dowel yeah it's just tight on that dowel there it goes there it goes it's sitting down flat now yeah it's just tight on that dell so i'm thinking i'm actually on number one top dead center compression because that one sat right down number six is up in the air a little bit so number six is probably the one that's in valve overlap so let me look at a torque spec here 50 newton meters plus 90 degrees 15 newton meters plus 90 degrees okay let's go ahead and put our jake coil on there that's brittle all right i get my torque wrench and go get a socket actually i'll get my cordless ratchet and we'll run these down and uh we'll torque these two rockers down i'm not worried about that valve overlap and that little bit of i mean that little bit of a gap there um no i'll suck them down that ain't gonna hurt anything and then we'll adjust our valves and then i'm gonna run the crankshaft around the two or five and i'll put rockers two and five on same thing will adjust the valves on whatever ones ready for adjustment which is obviously number one see how we're we're down flat i adjusted that number one 20 and 28 20 in the intake 28 000 exhaust here's my creeper over here ah get under here around the two and five mark oh see that tool comes out of there to the two to five mark so we know we adjusted we were on number one top dead center so the next one we'll adjust is number five technically what we could do just to i guess we could just number five on and adjust it and roll around to three or four and set number three on all right there's number two five tomorrow you can show you where that's at there sorry the mic's hitting the exhaust pipe all right so so we adjusted number one now we'll just we'll put number five on we'll adjust it number five you can see it set right down on there nice and flat no issues go ahead and put our jakes on check for the coil is that sitting down oh it's supposed to be okay plug-in's awful tight why is that plug so tight doesn't make a lot of sense what is that that sucker's tight on there that jake plug i sure don't seem right slacking not really at all let's not be sitting down give me a little bit of slack in that so you should have valve wash on those cylinders now 50 newton meters plus 90 degrees a little 50 on all of them now 90 degrees then we'll adjust the valves on this one and then we'll roll it around to cylinder number three um intake horn's kinda running away um all right all right so she's torqued down what i did last time i didn't even adjust the intake because it was already so for 20 and 28 20 on the intake 28 on the uh 20 on the intake what the hell's going on here is it tight that valve is tight so that one needs to be adjusted she needs to be adjusted and i think i think you got one well they might be both the same size there we go now that px9 engine is supposed to be here this morning they're not messing around all right now i can get my now i can get my feeler gauge in there and i got a slight drag on it that one's too tight too i can't get actually you know what once i get it in there actually we're gonna leave the exhaust alone it's fine the intake one was definitely too tight i couldn't get my feeler gauge even in there so now we'll roll it around the number number three so we're in far in order obviously one five and we'll do number three we'll put the rocker on and adjust it till we get done with them all all right guys so get all the rockers on i'm before i put the valve cover on i'm gonna get this one cab mount loose here jack up the corner and uh get number five and six fuel lines out and replace them i got any fuel lines here on the tool cart but i just uh i just went out and unloaded our px9 engine for frank and i took the belt housing we should have a new bell housing right here or something of that nature because the actual flywheel housing on the other engine is cracked so there's a brand new flywheel housing there's the wife pulling in [Music] so we'll go over here and look at our px9 uh engine i just craned off the guy's trailer it's kind of nice he came with a dodge dually and a gooseneck flatbed so didn't have to worry about if he was going to come in with a truck trucks it's hard to get a truck and trailer in here and get out of here you got to be skilled driver to get in and out of here so uh i thought they were gonna come in a truck and i was just gonna load up my buddy's place over there saw petroleum in their yard over there and worry about pawn i don't know have made up my mind yet where i'm gonna i'm really thinking about doing this project here huh yeah [Music] i got her we're unwrapping i our christmas thanksgiving merry christmas all over this thing i'm not really worried about it wrapped up out here as long as i mean everything to me looks like it's sealed up anyway i mean things go down the road with road wash and everything else anyhow okay i gotta answer this call all right so let me get this unwrapped they left their bungee cord on there i guess [Music] so all right what a wrapping job here didn't he how did they do that wow pretty neat [Music] there so this engine this truck that this front clip came out of had 15 500 miles on it when it got wrecked the engine only has 15 500 miles it's new okay the only thing i see that we really need to cap with that cover off because they had some fuel fuel lines here but we'll put a i got some gac caps other than that i mean there's another fuel line we need to plug they've got this taped off so i don't see any reason you know there's no reason to [Music] worry about trying to inspect it and make sure there's i don't see any other issues here this thing didn't catch on fire did it i know this must be from something on the wrapping there that's what i always like to do look at these and see if they're okay see you can see where it got wrecked and worked broke broke the bell housing here for the fly little housing they call it it did a number on it didn't it broke it clear down there that's what that new flywheel housing is for in there [Music] which that's not that big of a deal and it broke this bill housing on this transmission seriously through the transmission we're not using this transmission [Music] what do we got here [Music] what series is this i can i can replace that we can do something that's a new transmission i mean okay here we go right here so one l 720 [Music] not sure not really familiar with the newer style the 2018 model says right there on the tag oh allison model 3000 hs so it's okay it's like the one in the stinger hay stacker because that one the stinger haystacker's a 3000 series allison i mean they're i mean that's a that's a six or seven thousand dollar transmission right there [Music] that he kind of just threw it in he said i'll just throw it in anyhow but um yeah what all did they cut and i hate it when they do like that though that drives me crazy let me just cut wires like that [Music] and i like i've got two of these now all these skids that these things come off of and i'm going to make a bench out of it i'm going to cut the i'm just going to cut this off flush and just put a piece of plate on top of this and weld it here's a serial number from the truck it came out of obviously it must have been a peterbilt through kenworth so here we go px9 basically it's a cummins it's basically an isl9 is what it is [Music] advertised horsepower well it just has seen 176 millimeter really sure what that itself model l9 350 is 350 horse fan clutch oh there [Music] just making sure there ain't something else that's open that's gonna cause us troubles [Music] here's wpf scr assembly all that good stuff right here [Music] so this outfit here that bought this is uh called broderick engineering this actually guy this is a youtube gear so if we turn out this deal turns out good he's got three or four more trucks he wants to do so this potentially could be a good thing for us which i don't i think we'll i think will probably be 50 grand into this thing by the time it's said and done somewhere in that neighborhood i'm halfway contemplating doing a job up in town up here in my little shop even if i have to i don't know what kind of stacks that truck has on it but even if i have to pull the stack off and back it in there i might just do it here it's just i don't know it's kind of nice being in town closer to the parts and everything it's just kind of nice [Music] godly everything's just it's new basically it's basically a new engine on this thing pretty wild all right so got both front cab mounts out and i got the cab jacked up quite a ways you got to be careful you know this is only for me talking to derrick down there that works on these all the time i called him up to make sure that i was doing things the way they were supposed to be done he said the thing you got to watch about is where this hits you know you don't want to screw up the let the cab hit the stack so anyway i got the let's go ahead and throw number five and six in there [Music] let me get this unwrapped real quick get this camera all right so can i get this camera i need to go back to the little hat clip days you know all right this number six is quite quite the fun experience how you supposed to keep a fuel line clean when you gotta run it through all the wiring harnesses and dirt pull it out of there you know the hell is the damn there we go he's doing now there we go let's get in there all right there's number six on get number five and then we let the cab back down i mean derek are laughing at some of the he reads the comments too and he goes these guys are real proud when they get on there and say i'm a certified this and i'm a certified dad first first thought because of mine was you know good for you i mean what do you want a brownie button all right so we got her number six went in pretty easy i'm a certified how about you all right and the reason you got to jack that cab up is the part where the 90 here on the fuel line goes back into the head it hits the cab right here so i believe we can go down with her now and i can hear the fuel going back into the tank through the return all right here we go again all right i've got my scanner on it getting rid of all the codes that appeared for this go baby [Music] almost no pressure um so we're going to flush it now this thing must be programmed because of low coolant for it to shut down starter protect [Music] how quick that air is bleeding off [Music] look how the primary and secondary blood off so quick [Music] oh yeah what am i thinking that was a starter protect what that was cranking on it a little cooling like that [Applause] it's gonna shut me down i'm gonna have to drain the water and put cooling in it right here i'm gonna get some gun out the door somewhere sounds good i've been running her a little while here 190. 170 right now i know somebody who's going to say i can't hear you but there's a big diesel engine in front of this thing running so sorry about that [Applause] i'm gonna get it up there get her warmed up make sure that sometimes you'll get these things warmed up and that pressure on that coolant system we'll shove that coolant down below the coolant level sensor and then it'll d-rate on you once the guy gets a load on and start pulling he'll call you i i really like to run the living out of them if i can and make sure they're topped off there we're about 180 now look at her cool level okay i think i'm pretty confident with that i think we'll there's nothing barrel set up here he's put on there is leaking we'll go ahead and fix that while we're here other than that we're going to turn him loose and uh maybe we'll we'll pop this cap real quick and smell it see if we see any fuel beading up in [Music] there oh i got it tight now i'm telling you yep some of that all right smell more of the core or the clorox but soap i use i smell more of the soap in there than anything i'm going to pour just a little more cooling in there i'll call them and tell them go hook something on there and pull the guts over and see what happens [Applause] all right guys that's the paccar hopefully it was just what we thought it was and it was just the red diesel fuel somebody poured it in the radiator hopefully we don't see it coming back
