hi guys welcome back to the channel this is scott k by now we all know what a style kikron q1 sounds like kinda hollow thin and not the very best but i hope that we also know that this keyboard has massive potential with a little bit of simple modding as i have demonstrated in the ultimate version preview before now the moment you all have been waiting for keyboard what did you do to your key crown q1 to achieve the ultimate result well i made this tutorial to show you exactly what i did let's get started before we do anything we need to understand the issue first [Music] out of the box the q1 has a very pingy resonating lower case with the thicker foam the pin goes away but brings some unwanted results it reduces the ability for the cue one to travel so that's where this comes into play this is kilmatt 50mm noise dampener the stuff is thin one millimeter thin it dampens the ping better than foam and doesn't take up much space at all [Laughter] now that we have eliminated the lower case pane we need to focus on the top the upper frame of the q1 is fairly thin and resonates like a tuning rod the pin you hear is a combination of the top and bottom resonating together so what i have to do is create a force break if you will to prevent the resonant force from traveling from the lower case onto the upper creating that reverb that you hear in order to do this i use two layers of masking tape strategically placed around the screw points in the case this will create a tiny micro gap between the lower and the upper essentially containing the force in the lower case only to be absorbed by the dampner once you're done with this crucial step this is what the lower case looks like now with the kill mat and the force break with that we move on to the plate and pcb assembly i am now attempting to shape the sound i kept the provided plate foam but added a layer of very super thin pe foam this is to help q1 create a more fuller sound without going full-on jelly epic with a very thick pe foam i have also updated the stabilizers with everglade v2s which is essentially a durak v2 now the bottom of the pcb i think by now we all have been exposed to the tempest mod or the tape mod adding in layers of tape below the pcb helps the board create a thockier deeper sound and i felt that this was beneficial to the q1 so i used three layers of the masking tape which i thought was perfect so with all that going on was i able to keep the overall flex of the board intact let's check it out [Music] yep i think so the q1 was a layering project for me no pun intended instead of throwing a thick foam in there to reduce the ping and also the flex i had to be creative to try to find the perfect balance now on to the sound of this board i ran a poll and got your feedback on what switches you wanted to hear and there definitely was a trend towards the factory sounding switch on this board so without further ado let's wrap this up with the sound tests as usual if you liked the video please like and subscribe and i'll have more content for you in the future enjoy do do [Music] you
