Kerry Packer emerged from the shadow of his father and nine months in an iron lung as a childhood polio victim to become Australia's richest man and a powerful media Baron if you think I'm going to be railroaded and sit here and be told that you're going to change the laws and you're going to push me around I'm a well by them my view is that under the Constitution you don't have the right I am NOT evading tax in any way shape or form now of course I am minimizing my tax and if anybody in this country doesn't minimize their tax they want they Hedren because I was look as a government I can't any you're not spending at that well that we should be donating extra he started work loading newspapers at his father's Daily Telegraph but when it came to investing his inheritance Kerry favored television casinos and land over newspapers I think you'd have to say the Kerry Packer who was actually the start of television journalism of course it was going on before I mean television his father was the first fella didn't have a television station and so on but the the older proprietors didn't care about having television news because it interfered with the newspapers which they owned no Kerry decided he wanted his television journalists would be the best that there is and to give them the assets that they needed to do their work internationally he's best known for unleashing the 1977 cricket revolution that transformed the game [Applause] Kerry Packer was a hands-on proprietor philanderer heavy smoker gambler philanthropist spectacular deal maker and brutal opponent but steadfastly loyal to employees and associates he trusted and liked every Sunday he used to call up after the program to tell me what he didn't like about 60 minutes you know usually George Sneaky's was doing this theory was that and the problem is one night I had to had probably too much to drink before dinner and Kerry had too much to ask because I actually blew my top it wasn't like us you know being smart or anything I just went into a rant a real journalistic rant and in the end of it I said and anyway and what do you want from me I've got four million viewers and you're only one of them and there was this long pause and he finally said I would have thought I did at least count for two
