matthew chapter 17 and verse number one the word of god my favorite thing my favorite thing after six days jesus taketh peter james and john his brother and bring it them up into a high mountain apart and there was transfigured before them and his face did shine as the sun and his raiment was white as the light it is my opinion today that what is needed more in the apostolic ministry is a word called balance balance for a few moments today i want to minister on this just a simple subject peter james and john would you say that with me peter james and john father i love you lord please help me today to convey the thoughts of my heart god you are working a work in this conference you are working among us today lord touch every minister and their wife their families today god let me say a few words that would add to what has been said i'll give you praise and honor you're worthy of the praise jesus name we pray amen you may be seated thank you some time ago i came across this event that happened in the 17th chapter of matthew where jesus took with him jesus took with him it was on purpose he singled him out he took with him peter james and john i was intrigued with this i was moved by what i felt was god inside of me as he purposely singled three out of the twelve and he took them to the mountain and there he was transfigured before them i would study on in the scripture brethren and i would find that this was not the first time that jesus would single out peter james and john i discovered that when he was going to the house of jairus to raise jairus's daughter from the dead that once again he stopped and he singled out you got it peter james and john but it wouldn't stop there he was walking to the garden the night before his crucifixion with the 12 and he stops and he singles out again now now i don't know how it rolls up here in the in the northeast but people down south kind of get their dander up when you start singling people out of the crowd and taking them farther with you well it happens at our church i don't know how they'd feel if i was walking with 12 of the men and i turned around and i said hey all i want is gary bob and joe the rest of you stay here it wouldn't take very long for some trouble to be in the camp because you have taken peter james and john not once not twice but three times you have taken peter james and john so i began to do an in-depth study on all the times and i i looked at the amount transfiguration and how that moses and elijah came down and and and deity shined through flesh and i had all kinds of bible studies about the godhead i had all kinds of bible studies about moses and elijah and the past meeting the present and the future and i had all these different things and it was as if the lord was saying you still don't see it you still don't see it i was right proud of myself for the bible studies that came out of my ins intensive study of peter james and john until the lord kept a burden on my heart you still don't see it and in prayer he began to reveal to me that peter james and john speak of three diverse personality traits that is essential for the ministry peter james and john all had different personality traits and it would be these three personality traits that jesus was wanting to establish is needful for a balance in the ministry there's ever a day that we must seek for balance it is today while we are reaching with our arms as far as we can we must make sure that we're still balanced with our feet because we can only reach as far as our feet will keep us balanced so i begin to study about the personality of peter peter has the personality of authority and if there's ever been a day that we need to be baptized with apostolic authority it is today we need a baptism of apostolic authority we represent the message we represent the truth we represent the name we represent the way we represent the gospel and we have got to learn how to walk with an apostolic authority it was peter that answered first you are the christ the son of the living god it was peter that heard the words i give unto you the keys the authority of the kingdom it was peter that was told he would have the keys it was peter that was told that he would have the authority but two verses later jesus begins to tell the disciples how he will go to jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed and be raised again the third day then peter took him wait a minute then peter took him and began to rebuke him saying be far from the lord this shall not be unto thee but jesus turned and said to peter get thee behind me satan isn't it amazing that in order for authority to fulfill the purpose of god it must be submitted to the plan of god i cannot have authority for my own personal agenda i cannot have authority because i want to have a title over my door i've got to operate in authority because i'm under the plan of the lord jesus to carry out that plan can i get a witness in the house today peter has this authority it's peter that grabs the sword in the garden and cuts the high priest servant's hear of it is it is peter that exercises this take charge mentality it is peter as they gathered in the upper room it was peter that stood up and said men and brethren we must appoint an apostle to take judas's place and is it any strange thing that when they said these men are full of new wine who was the one that stood up then peter stood up and lifted up his voice but you see in between the gospels in the book of acts is an event that happened to peter because peter has denied the lord and the lord comes after that denial with a series of questions i know you have authority i know that you know my uh identity i know that you're so strong that you'll get a sword but i want to ask you something peter do you love me do you love me peter i know you can walk on water i know that you know how many gods there are i know that you're the man with the key i know that you're all of these things but i want to ask you something do you love me not once not twice but three times he said these words do you love me feed my sheep then he told of how peter would die that his death would be one that they would take him to a place that he would not want to go they would take him to a place they would gird him it's one thing to have authority free but it's another thing to have it when it's bound up it's one thing to be your own man but it's another thing to be your old man own man in the plan and so when god told peter that he was going to be bound and go where he didn't want to go this signifying what death watch what peter does he turns to the disciple john and he says lord what will this man do what will this man do and jesus said basically it's none of your concern about him follow thou me now i get from that that brother peter had a little personality issue with brother john because they have different personalities peter's to take charge peters you're the son of the living god peter is a a samurai soldier i mean man he's whacking ears off peter is this guy that's always the first one in the crowd didn't wait for somebody else to say we need to appoint someone to take judas's place peter like a jack out of the box he's there to tell you we need to do this but i sense he's got a little issue this personality issue with our loving brother john now john is a different personality as a matter of fact john wrote the book that carries his name the gospel of john he identifies himself in the gospel of john john 19 26 he always identifies himself when jesus therefore saw his mother and the other disciples standing by whom he loved you know who john is writing about why he's writing about himself when he would go to describe the lord he would say i'm not john i'm the disciple whom jesus loves he said it not once he said it many times in the book of john that bears his name he would go writing about something and he would stop and say and the disciple whom jesus loved at the last supper peter was talking to jesus he looks over and the disciple whom jesus loves is leaning upon his breast and he he signifies i am the disciple whom jesus loved john is all about love god's love there is such a security because in the ministry we are not always certain about the love from those that we're trying to to get to follow sometimes even in marriage relationships we can be uncertain about love but if there's one thing that we need baptized with in order to be an effective apostolic minister is that we must have authority on one hand but we've got to have the love of god on the other hand when people walk out as bishop bernard talked about we've got to be able to stand and not go through the love me he loves me not he loves me on high attendance days he doesn't love me when the bottom's falling out no church he loves me on easter sunday morning and he loves me on a midweek service in the middle of july because i am the disciple whom jesus loves as a matter of fact john wrote revelation chapter 1 it's amazing what love will reveal to us john begins to write in revelation chapter one verse number four john to the seven churches which are in asia grace be unto you peace from him which is and which was and which is to come from the seven spirits which are before his throne and from jesus christ listen to john he's five verses into this book who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood can i tell you the reason he takes peter james and john is he's saying i've got to put into one personality a man or a woman with authority but not only authority listen to this authority without love will lead to a dictator i preached for someone not long ago between i tell you where they pastored that between here in vietnam and the members of that church the people that church the little kids they all were fearful of that pastor that's unhealthy respect is one thing but i don't want people afraid of me i mean they literally walked around and to be quite honest with you the pastor was quite proud of the fact that people's hands shook when they would come into his office you need to get a life you need to get a life because only they're going to only follow you for a certain time but if you could ever become a man that has authority and love you see authority only leads to a cruel dictatorship it leads to legalism it leads to people doing things not because they love god it's because they're afraid of their pastor they're doing things so they can sing in the choir they're doing things so they can be a part of the church none of that should be the reason that we embrace those lifestyles it ought to be because we serve a god who loves us now follow this now now follow this authority without love leads to a dictator legalism but love without authority leads to that greasy grace and gospel lace and nothing sin anymore mentality oh just come as you are i don't have any problem telling people to come as you are but i don't expect them through the authority and the love of god to stay as they are [Applause] it's amazing and i'm gonna i'm gonna address something this this afternoon is we have a lot of fallen brothers in our movement all of our organizations we have men and women that once carried the torch and for whatever reason they fail and it's a tragedy and their ministries are tombs of what used to be but you're looking at one five foot seven inch green eyed preacher today that's never going to give up on our fallen brothers and sisters and before the manual hits them i'm going to make sure mercy gets them as a matter of fact i want mercy to reach my fallen brother or my fallen sister before the manual gets them the most tragic day the most tragic day in the life of peter and john the most tragic day in the life of authority and love was john chapter 20 verse number one the first day of the week cometh mary magdalene early when it was yet dark unto the sepulcher and see it the stone taken away from the sepulcher then she runeth and cometh to simon peter has authority and to the other disciple because if you got to if you've got bad news the worst day of your life the tragedy of all tragedies yes go to peter authority but make sure john is there too because bad news doesn't get turned around very well with authority only it's got to be coupled this is why he took peter james and john he cometh she came up to them and the other disciple whom jesus loved say it unto them they have taken away the lord of the sepulcher and we know not where they have laid him peter therefore went forth and that other disciple and we know who he is and they came to the sepulcher so they ran both together it's interesting we have authority and love in a foot race headed to the scene of a tragedy so they both ran together and the other disciple did outrun peter and came first to the sepulcher can i tell you that love ought to always outrun authority [Applause] can i tell you that before that little girl that's got pregnant at a wedlock makes her way to your office and has to tell you that she's got to get out of the choir before she makes that way to that office may she know i know i'm gonna have the bible brought out but may she know that there's a love man there's a john that's in there there's somebody that's gonna love her come on i want our fallen brothers to know this afternoon that the united pentecostal church and the pafw and the aljc and whoever else may be here if you're fallen the manual's not going to hit you but mercy is going to hit you we want to wrap our arms around [Applause] i don't know about you but any one of us can fall in sin let him that think he stand take heed lest you fall i don't care how many years you've been a pastor i don't care how many gifts you operate in i don't care how long your hair is or how long it's not i don't care what your pedigree is or it's not any of us at any day can fall in sin and may god help me if i fall in sin that somebody in this congregation would drive to maryville tennessee and say i've not come i've not come to condemn you i've come to tell you that god still loves you and you're still valuable in the kingdom [Applause] you hear me and hear me well it's my favorite thing to show mercy it's my favorite thing to see them restored can i just preach a few more moments today love outran outran authority to the grave stooping down and looking in he saw the linen clothes lying and went he not in then come a simon peter following and he went into the sepulcher i understand that because we just can't have love without authority we can't have authority without love but authority is black and white authority is what it says in our manuals but love has a language that's not necessarily spelled out in the manual you may be seated you may be seated authority goes in and looks around the authority sees the lamp that was about his head not lying with the linen clothes but wrapped together by itself then went in also that other disciple you know who that is don't you which came first to the sepulcher does that spell it out he saw and believed because sometimes authority is black and white but love sees what can't be seen sometimes authority sees you broke a rule you broke up you broke a law and authority says this is what happens but oh god let me have a personality trait that although i have to deal out the authority of the word on one hand i can deal out the love of god on the other hand i can tell you they're grave clothes but i can tell you there's a resurrection i can tell you this is horrible but i can tell you you can live again i can tell you this is terrible but i can tell you you're gonna shout again i can tell you this is terrible but i can tell you you're gonna preach again you're gonna work again now growing up poor and i did i i did the bishop brooks not not as quite not quite as poor as what you described today man that's poor but i remember growing up i was fascinated with birds birds their nests and birds and i was just fascinated as a kid young kid and one day i witnessed something that scarred me and to this very day i can still see it there was a blue jay that had broken its wing somehow the wing had been broken he was trying to fly but he couldn't get off the ground and of course you know that flight to a bird is his only defense against the predator if he can't fly he's an easy prey and i watched i yelled i i threw rocks but a dog came into the backyard and devoured that bird and it so scarred me really did as a kid that years later when i got in the ministry and men and women who at one time flew high for god not just preachers not just not just pastors wives sunday school teachers and youth leaders have done great things for god but whatever the reason their wings broke and they're an easy prey to every demonic spirit god doesn't love you the church doesn't love you nobody's called you and the devil plays all these tricks on their mind because the devil is not content with just the broken wing he's not content that until they have no breath left in them and they're burning in a lake of fire so i did a little research and i simply googled how to fix a broken wing and it said that although a bird's wing may be broken it's still repairable and it gave me a list of things you have to do it said first you have to catch the bird and it said the bird will try to get away from you because he's injured so we're going to stop waiting on the fallen to call us that veterinarian didn't say have your door open and wait for him to come hopping into your house he said you have got to catch the bird and be easy how you catch it lest you cause further damage i'm gonna tell you when we go to reach for fallen people the conversation ought to start like this i didn't call for details i didn't call for you to tell me anything i just simply have called you to tell you that i love you that i believe in you and then i'm praying and if they want to start telling you details say stop right there i don't want to hear that right now i just want to put john on you i just want to put some live on you [Applause] it said catch the bird and bring him to a hey can i preach a little bit longer he said bring him to a safe place our churches need to become safe places [Applause] for the following now now this this probably across some theologies here and i understand but yeah i better understand but i also understand that everybody's got a right to be wrong okay i'm telling you how i feel right now when i get the fallen to come to our church i tell our people back off from them back off from them if they want to stand and lift their hands they don't need to be mobbed like they fumble the football [Applause] well brother carpenter they're hungry they lifted their hands that's right they're trying to get they're trying to start this process of coming back to god what you want to do is pray them through the tongues that's well and good but we got to get him in a healthy relationship with god back off back off if i want them prayed for if i want to pray for i'll tell you go pray for him but back off i've even been seen they got it on camera they've they've even seen me going into a crowd of people that's around them like that like they fumble the football and start saying go back go back and be seated go back and be seated that's fine you can go back and be seated you can go back and i get everybody away from him and i still begin to say go ahead bro it's just you and god go ahead and worship god go ahead magnify the lord go ahead and love him there'll come a day for everybody to get around but right now if you're gonna if you're gonna repair a broken wing i got to get them in a safe place i got to get them in this safe place then it said it said take the wing take the broken wing take the broken wing and gently put it in its natural position against the body and said tape the whole wing start the tape on the whole wing shoulder and go around the body and loosely tape the broken wing said don't tape it too tight you might restrict breathing then it said when putting a small water dish in the cage make sure that it's not a deep dish lest the bird who is prone still to stumble would drown you see we're working with people now with broke wings that just because we got them in doesn't mean they don't stumble a little bit between services and love is not a three strikes [Applause] love is praying people through to the holy ghost that are battling with alcoholism love is seeing them set on the pew for several weeks and then they go missing where's mary well she got drunk again she back in a county jail you go tell mary we love her you go tell mary we're waiting on her when she gets out you see if we don't say something the devil will if we don't send a message to our fallen the devil will the devil sin they don't love you look they walk by you at walmart and you they didn't even say anything to you go out of your way make our fallen [Applause] then it said after a time after a time she take the gauls off and said let the bird naturally begin to practice flight i've got a nephew that was an evangelist a fiery evangelist a man of god sought after around the country in our fellowship but his wife broke her wing and the marriage ended we begged our nephew don't put your bible down don't stop doing what you're doing your wife's wings broke but that doesn't mean you're broke but he didn't listen he got out of church got way out of church but dr bernard my son our son nolan would call his uncle john every saturday night for years uncle john come to church tomorrow and uncle john would tell him no i'm going to be there but week after week uncle john never came through the door somebody said to me said why will john lie to nolan like that get his hopes up i said you hold up just a minute john's not lying to him i really believe on saturday night that john in his mind wants to come back to church but when sunday morning comes there's a devil there that says you used to hold revivals at that church you used to get up and be brought in as an evangelist and now you're gonna come in looking the way that you're looking but my boy kept on saturday night after saturday night after saturday night and about two years on a sunday morning john came walking through the back door before the service was over prayed back through to the holy ghost i'm telling you we got to have the ministry of peter james and john [Applause] he says says take the tape off and let them fly and let them fly and some sunday school teachers out here that's fallen and god sent me all the way up here to tell you you need to fly again there's some people in this audience today there are some people that know people that's in this audience today and god wants you to take a message to every fallen brother or sister in the church of the living god and you need to take them the message you can fly again you can fly again you can be you [Applause]
