week or so partially not fully in business but but partially so when we came in the front gate today we have our temperatures taken sign usual forms wearing facemasks quite different than the last time I was here but that's quite okay I'm very happy to be back at a racetrack and today we're doing something kind of special I've got my daughter Lee again haha yeah yeah so last week's episode Lee along with my other kids and my wife helped me film our Gymkhana grid episode with the can-am inside the shop but leah was a little bumps you can get to drive right didn't get to drive so you would like to drive today are you sure how much would you like to drive a lot or a little okay let me give a little background on Leah real quick so he is 13 she's a very good student gets all A's in class and every time she gets into something she gets very into it so but she's got a lot of natural talent thing for things to do might fit making you feel embarrassed yet so we have that little Mustang drift car when she was very young she we had some other little carts then she started driving like UTV's and eventually raced here at UMC and malukas off-road series she got a couple podiums she did quite well she had a couple crashes too how was it rolling a little you TV yeah right so over the last couple days I taught her how to drive a stick for the first time so Focus RS with a clutch first time three days ago let go yeah now you gotta break the wheels loose and use the handbrake so the car you're gonna be driving Leah is my 1978 mark to escort this car originally built for a rally has a Millington engine in it produces roughly 350 horsepower I can't remember the exact figure I'll stop my head but it's normally aspirated doesn't have a turbo so you need to rev it very high the redline of sanctions about 9,000 rpm in some ways this is the easiest car in my fleet to actually get the rear wheel spinning but it's also one of the hardest to drive because you've got to drive it with a lot of RPM and a lot of throttle control and it's rear-wheel drive so it it's easy to loop it out so lots of clutch control lots of throttle control today and you get to use a handbrake for the first time in a car like this right if used a handbrake in the canyon no oh alright yeah so the car is already in setup for us it's not a very nice set of r1 our Toyo's so I'll go out and warm the car up give you a little running of what you're gonna do and then it's your turn you ready yeah again to repeat again you broke it how tumbling it Woodward and how Wells I hand functioning not well but you can handle the steering wheel are you sure I like this car I don't want you breaking this car going alright so just like to focus RS gas brake clutch but instead of the h-pattern you have this it's like the dirt bike so all the way up is neutral and then pull again will be in first but the engines got to be running and then this is a handbrake so when you pull the handbrake it's locking the rear wheels this is only rear-wheel drive though so when you pull this you have to have the clutch in otherwise you pull this it just stalls the engine yeah so same thing just like you did the Focus RS you know we'll start neutral see I'm in neutral remember the cake better this is the same type thing you push this in clutch reverse see they are here now I just pull back that I'm in neutral see and then I put a shooting the clutch pull back once so I always just naturally press remember so I'll go over the basics of what we want accelerate like that get used to doing I want you to do that learning to turn [Music] [Music] here mama chastened giving it you have to give it a lot otherwise it'll just stall and you will stall several times but just think the more should give it the more it's gonna get throttle around the cone yeah that's awesome wait what did you say about respect at all she's like oh and you do is hard oh that's interesting ha ha ha all right well I'm really proud proud dad gummit Yugi drove one of my race cars at age 13 and he did really well really well so considering she couldn't drive a clutch three days ago pretty pretty impressive what's next what are you gonna do next I think we have two perfect donuts first but this was a really good start all right Leah time for us to go home nice say bye everybody [Music]
