I would like you to welcome with a warm because it's cold outside a warm Ottawa welcome to Carl mister Reverend pastor friend Carl bastion I don't know where he is good evening how you guys doing tonight oh no how many of your mothers have told you not to talk to strangers some of you are very strange and I'm pretty strange so I tell you what I won't talk to any strangers so what's your name what's your name what's your name what's your name what's your name this can't take too long tell you what I'm gonna count to three and I want y'all tell me your name one two wait wait wait wait wait some of you might have the same name and that will confuse me so I tell you what we do I'm gonna count to three and I want tell me your first and your last name okay ready here we go one two wait wait wait wait wait do you know why parents give you a middle name it's to embarrass you so tell me your first middle and last name on a count of three ready one two wait wait wait wait wait some people are not here tonight and they're gonna miss out there driving by out there so tell me your first middle and last name as loud as you can and I won't stop counting this time all right you guys need to be in a chair here we go one two three wonderful now I know all your names my name is Carl everyone say Carl and now we're not strangers well whenever you see a great magician you expect him to do something absolutely amazing right and they're always wearing a magic hat I've got a very special magic hat with me here tonight and and the expected was maybe produce out of it a beautiful white rabbit right tada okay thank you for clapping well if you're not very impressed how about this rabbit okay you don't like that one all right all right I got a level with you rabbit was confiscated at customs so uh how about this no pictures all right actually I used to use rabbits but I'm using something much better in fact I found that rabbits were kind of messy to work with and so I have found something even more amazing than a rabbit's something you're just going to gasp with amazement when you see it be prepared to be amazed Abra Cadabra poof aren't you amazed it's a little red ball okay a little red balls not as cute or as amazing as a rabbit but I have found them to be better for three reasons first of all you don't have to feed them secondly of all they don't make little messes in your hats and thirdly they multiply just as good as rabbits but before I do this I must mention my lawyers line boys and girls do not go home and attempt to do this yourself if you do you'll choke and die in your mom will sue me and get my entire ten dollars because in order to do this mmm I have to eat it so watch carefully remember you must be a professional to attempt this whoo my fist oh my goodness and I suppose some of you would like a little souvenir I'm gonna throw some of these out here we go on account three here we go well that's the thing about magic tricks they're always disappearing well if you were noticing that my little hat did not match my outfit very much that's because I'm always accused of having a tricky hat so I borrowed this one from the audience would you mind bringing my magic hat up here young man and I'll have my magic hat back and we'll just trade back and I'll even let you have my bunny as a souvenir would you bring my magic hat back up here give this man a big round of applause and give his hat a big round of applause there you go your hat starred in the show tonight and there you go you can have the bunny - thank you very much for the assistance of your hat in the show tonight and always clean up your mess and there we go well it's wonderful to be here tonight and to be a part of this great show tonight now whenever you see a great magician of course I know you always expect them to do something absolutely amazing and if that disappointed you because you wanted to see something white you want to see something fluffy you want to see something beautiful well then I hate to disappoint you and so how about a beautiful white dog well like I said animals are a pain and so I don't bother with them and tell you they're so messy and so smelly and so we're not gonna bother with any live animals tonight but I'll tell you what I will do for you I'll show you a trick that I just made up tonight all right I say that every night that's called a professional lie so type that lawyers and politicians like to make and I'm gonna roll up my sleeves here now because I always get accused of having things up my sleeves and actually magicians do keep something up their sleeves you know what they keep up their sleeves their arms and that's about it so let me roll up my sleeves here to alleviate any suspicion for you and show you the trick that I just made up tonight what I'm going to do is I'm going to make this green silk here vanish into thin air right before your very eyes all right just making sure you're paying attention that's right that is not the green silk so we're gonna take this yellow silk right here we're gonna make it vanish into thin air right before fine we'll take the green silk and make it vanish at dinner right because make up your mind fine we'll take the yellow silk and make it vanish it I can't do the trick if you don't know your colors look we have a yellow silk and a green silk I'm just trying to do a trick here okay then I switch them again fine we'll switch them I got a green silk it a yellow silk anyway what we're trying to do all right all right you got to make up your mind either we have a green silk in a yellow silk or we have a yellow still get a green silk it can't be both all right tell you what it's gonna disappear so it really doesn't matter what color it is right so let's just pick this one and watch very carefully as the silk of disputed color is about to vanish into thin air on the count of three one two three poof and it's gone aren't you amazed what there is no soap oh did I just turn around yeah I did all right it's really not that bad trick look it fooled your parents all right what we're gonna do is we're gonna take the green silk I'll say it right just to calm you down we're gonna take the green silk you stick in your hand you say magic we're like abracadabra it's gone all right then you take the little yellow went off the table you show both sides of it you place it over your hand you stamp your fingers you reach inside and once again we're back to two now in case you missed it it's hard to see with the green one with the yellow one it's easy now with the green one you'll notice I said abracadabra with a yellow one you don't want to yell what you say is hocus-pocus when it's gone then you take the green one off the table you show both sides very carefully you place it over your hand you snap your fingers you reads inside or what's again you're back to - well you look a little confused I'll tell you what they say the hand is quicker than the eye right what's very carefully here's the hand here's the eye which one's faster well I'll tell you what I'm gonna do for you just for you guys because I love Canadians so much I'm gonna do what most magicians would never do for you I'm going to actually perform the trick in slow motion cheerful Falls control this is what you aren't you amazed well I hate to burst your little bubbles but nothing ever goes up a magician sleeve and quite frankly we're sick and tired of hearing them now truth is you can say abracadabra you can say hocus pocus you can say Allah peanut butter and jelly sandwiches it doesn't matter the silks just disappeared the real secret is thank you hey Tommy well I'm calling you Tommy because has Tommy on your Jack shirt you're probably not really Tommy so would you come up here Tommy all right whatever your name is would you stand underneath the bucket of water please here's I wants to do all right would you would you take your arm and put it inside your sleeve just pull down inside there we go that's good here's I want you to do Tommy magicians are always getting cused of putting things up their sleeves they never put anything up their sleeve or so tiring that but what they do do sometimes is stick things up the sleeve of some unsuspecting kid in the front row there we go and there you go tell me you can keep that sweatshirt as a souvenir give a big round of applause thank you very much and there you go thank you very much give a big round of applause all right appreciate that Tommy that's very wonderful of you well I'll tell you what when I was a little boy my set I need you boys in chairs okay otherwise it just grows I'm pretty soon I'm back there on the stage begging for my life for I need you guys in chairs when I was a little boy my dad sat me down one day and he said Carl what are you gonna do when you grow up well I thought about it and I thought about and I finally decided there was nothing in the world that I would rather do than do nothing my dad said well Carl that sounds great but no one's gonna pay you to do nothing we'll listen do nothing stick it actually doesn't do anything at all oh there's a little blue ball it has two yellow balls little strings you just like that although I should mention that the blue ball is also attached to a red ball little string just like that and oh by the way the red balls attached to white balls little strings see just like that and oh not only is the red ball attached to the white ball but the white ball is also attached to a yellow ball with a little string like that and oh I think I mention at the beginning that the white balls attached to the blue ball with a little string she just like that but then also diagonally the yellow balls attached to the red ball with a little string just like that and the white balls attached to the blue ball diagonally like that but like I said the yellow balls attest to the blue balls little string just like that oh but not only is the yellow ball tested white ball and the white ball attached to the red ball and a red ball attached to the blue ball the blue ball attached the yellow ball and that I mentioned the white balls test accurately to the white ball and the red balls hashtag linked to the yellow ball yeah oh you look a little suspicious by now well in case you're wondering what's going on inside this orange tube actually nothing is it's do nothing stick and there's absolutely nothing inside you see I do this trick just for two reasons and that's first of all to prove that my dad was indeed wrong I do get paid to do nothing just pulling little poem poems but also just to say that once we think we have God all figured out he likes to surprise us and show us that we'll never figure him out just like you and I will never quite figure out my do nothing stick and its louder when you clap with both hands come back here well right now I would like to show you the world's fastest trick are you ready watch true it's in the bag over there okay so ever lose my head in the situation it's pays to have a spare so I'd like to use hands from the audience it's a great help to me so don't raise your voice just your hands I'm gonna look for some hands from the audience preferably clean hands especially no boogers under the fingernails please they get on the sponge balls that's nasty all right so let's see I forgot to bring out and I want to make you my assistant and I also need somebody with gran dos Manos big hands to help me out so this may even be a dad to help me out so I'm looking for big hands gonna do how old are you Kelly six don't worry any six-year-old could do this with 20 years of experience okay Kelly once you hold your hand out like this and I'm gonna teach you how to do this trick it's very easy okay close your hand and open it can you handle that you want to practice a couple times all right you got it you you might want to practice too it's very tricky all right you're part 2 don't fall asleep just stay right there I'll get you in a minute okay Kelly here's what I'm going to do this time instead of using my hand I'm gonna use your hand I'm gonna take this one right here I'm gonna put it in this hand and I'm gonna take the other one and I'm gonna put it in your so open your hand I'm gonna squeeze it in there close your hand as tight as you can take your other hand and put it over this hand and hold it above your head where everybody can see and squeeze it as tight as you can because in ten seconds instead of going from one hand to the other I'm gonna make it leave my hand travel through thin air and into your hand in ten seconds so you keep squeezing here we go you guys can count with me 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 go ahead open your hand short with me what you got and she's got it both give her a big round of applause pretty amazing all right dad what was your name again good memory how many of you guys saved at this time instead of putting one in the pauses hand I can instead put both of them so I want you to squeeze really tight all right Kelly come over here put your other hand over this hand we don't want any leaks once you put one hand on the top one hand on the bottom all right and this time this is gonna be so amazing because I'm gonna walk all the way over here okay far away and this time instead of putting one into dad's hand like I did for his daughter I am gonna reach into his hand and pull just one of those out while he's squeezing and make it appear in this empty hand raise your hand if you now believe there was only one ball in his hand and one ball in this hand awesome raise your hand if you're a sceptic I mean a skeptic oh yeah well guess what you're right that's impossible but keep squeezing I'll tell you what I can do I'll get out of your nose do it inside and we'll get out of your nose here you purple it's kind of gross and let's see what getting out of your nose here who it's orange and we'll get out of your nose and we'll get in your nose here oh it's pink it's cute and let's see we'll get out of your nose here here we go oh I'm not sure we'll find out and oh my goodness it's so good that you came here today stand up buddy just gonna take two hands so this thing is giant giant red one oh my god we'll get one more little blue one I think so nice it's hard to tell okay back up Kelly let's see what dad's got in there open up yep I'm nervous let's see what dad's got oh my goodness and there we go give a big round of applause oh my goodness thank you very much all right and that amazing all right I need you guys to move back to a seat though if you would do that for me all right otherwise it just keeps growing and growing and pretty soon it's gonna be like Elvis in here but you know what I love this trick because it reminds me of that Bible story in the Bible where that little boy came to Jesus and he gave him just a little and if we take just the little we have and we give it to Jesus he can multiply it and a lot more than I can with a magic trick he can multiply it even more and more and more because God is just that amazing well I'll tell you what you guys love color right I've got a magic color tube here it's nice and colorful on the inside it's kind of boring on the inside is really nothing on the inside and then I've got a really cool little magic silk here but there's really nothing on it except a flower and a flower pop but it's not very colorful so we're gonna attempt a little magic and because not everyone gets to be my assistant I'm gonna let you all be my assistant how's that sound so here's what I want you to do I'm gonna stick this down inside the tube here and I would like you all to help me out would you like to do that so I would like you all to reach on to your clothes and grab some color would you do that for me grab some color and when I tell you I want you to throw the color up to my color too because it has the ability to capture color and magically stick it on to my silk ready but don't don't splat it on my nice vest here okay ready here we go on the count three one two three all right well good job good job let's see how you did I'm gonna pull it out here and now we should magically have a colored flower guys that was kind of pathetic that that was some terrible terrible aiming there all right were you paying attention what I wanted you to do was to take it and color my flower so let me try it again all right so let me see if I stuff it in here all right and what I want you to do is to put it on the flower not on the silk you try it again this time and this time I want you to aim and I want you to give it extra power this time all right I'm gonna hold it over here though because I don't want you getting me okay ready extra power but aim better this time one two three all right let's see how you did I'm a little nervous let's see how you did this time let's see how you did all right you did good let's see holy moly talk about extra power Oh Wow you guys are amazing well you know what the Bible says that when we give our heart in our life to Jesus we can feel pretty plain and pretty ordinary but he changes our life the Bible says the old is new the old is gone and new is coming he makes us a brand new person gives us special gifts and special abilities and ways to serve Him and how amazing it is to know that all that old can be gone and we can become a brand new person in him give yourselves a big round of applause because you all helped me with that amazing trick how incredible you guys are well I have to tell you when I was a little boy there was an old old old old old old old old ancient old lady they went to my church and I'm gonna tell you about her but I'm going to show you a rope trick at the same time so I need a couple people to examine these ropes all right now notice I said examine not destroy so somebody in a chair is gonna examine these for me so this girl back there if you would examine those for me all right and let's see this little girl right here if you would examine that for me and let's see here we got someone over here all right in a chair is gonna examine these for me if you would examine that for me now I'd like to see that the the hand-signed gal translate this all right because what I'd like you to do if you would examine those notice all the trapdoors pulleys chains hidden cameras two-way mirrors glue elastic magnets cellophane stamps slave slave clips roller blades little people inside all those things because I've been accused of all those things over the years and there there isn't any but they're just ordinary rope so if you wouldn't mind tossing that back up to me or bring it back up to me once you bring it up to me so it doesn't get intercepted go ahead bring that up here wonderful their ordinary ropes all right all right gonna toss that up to me that would be wonderful there we go we got some whoo there we go there's this one and we got one more there can you bring that up to me thank you thank you very much well now that you have thoroughly examined these ropes I'll tell you what I'm gonna do get the other ones out no I'm just kidding well as I was saying about that old old old old old old old ancient old lady her name was grandma woof now you think with a name like grandma woof she'd be a mean old cookie old lady going around church beatin people with her purse right but grandma wolf was actually a very sweet old lady and she lived to be a hundred and four years old now I know the Bible says that everybody's sinned and everyone's done bad things but I bet if you took every bad thing that grandma won't ever did and you wrote him on a piece of paper you get a really short list but then there's people you read about in the newspaper people have done really really bad things they might not even be that old but if you listed all their sins on a paper you get a really long list and then there's people maybe like me and you who's kind of in the middle well I used to think that when we compared these lives together I used to think that when a real evil horrible terrible wicked scumbag died and he went and stood before God his creator and God looked at all those things he had done God would say I'm sorry but there ain't no way nohow you're getting into heaven buddy hasta la vista baby and he would send him down to you know where and then I thought really super good people God would say well grandma wolf I don't know I saw you steal that paperclip I saw you reuse that postage stamp and you know those tags on your mattress that say do not remove under penalty of law I saw you cut that off so all right that's all you did come on into heaven good grief 104 years that's all you did and then I thought people like me when I got to heaven God would say well Carl you could have done worse but look at grandma wolf over there come on you could have done so much better and I thought God would kind of had this scale but you know what I began to learn it when God looks at the Bible it looks at lives excuse me he sees them as all being exactly the same and what I mean by that is that God says if you've broken one command you've broken them all and that sense we're all the same so that means if you're like Rama wolf who's practically perfect or whether you're a criminal who's broken some really serious laws or whether you're in the middle God sees that we all need to be forgiven so that means we all need God's forgiveness no matter how good or bad we are even though on earth our lives look very different that amazing I might need some help right here getting these kids off the stage all right so that is the bad news the bad news is that every single one of us has done bad things and every single one of us needs forgiveness if that were the end of the message of the Bible we'd be in big trouble but the good news is the gospel in fact the gospel is called good news that's what the gospel of Jesus means it means good news and so that's why it doesn't end there and I have some very good news and I also have a very long rope so I'm gonna need two helpers two helpers let's see here that girl back there with the leaf thing on her shirt the red shirt what are these red leafs I see everywhere I'm just teasing all right that's not a remedy if it's a white leaf on a red shirt so all right you stand right over here would you grab grab that end of this rope here all right and I'm gonna walk over here with the other end remember the story of Adam and Eve all right and actually she's gonna be good that's all I need all right guys sit down and notice starting Adam and Eve first man first woman in the Bible right and God said you can do anything you want oh except this one thing one tree don't eat off the one tree that's it but anything else what happens when your mom and dad say you can do anything you want today oh but just don't need any cookies what do you suddenly want to do you just suddenly want to eat cookies right well that's what happened to Adam and Eve they were tempted and so what we're gonna do we're gonna find the middle of this rope here so let's see here I'm gonna find the very middle here all right and if you would hold that there and let's see here I'm gonna grab the two dudes too - all right so head ends here and find a loop here I do with the long rope cause it's more dramatic but it kind of makes it a little tricky - so bring it up here and there we go here and so what happened was they disobeyed God and when they disobeyed God their relationship with God was severed right down the middle and no longer did they have oops I kind of goofed there would you do me a favor what's your name Oh Cameron and I forgot to put a magic hat on you so we'll fix that this makes the kids you didn't get picked feel better suddenly all right Cameron if you would help me out here the kids have trouble the scissors so I'll cut but if you would just grab with your finger the exact spot that we need to cut to make these the same length it's important for the trick that they're the same so do you see where I need to cut show me where I need to cut to make them the same length and grab it with your finger and don't lose that spot all right because I want you to show me where I need to cut do you have it all right don't and you make sure I cut the right spot okay we're right here are you sure okay I'm not gonna move we're gonna cut that spot okay so whenever Neves sin what happened is a relationship with God was severed and it was broken and it was no longer too sick you need to grab the spot that I need to make sure we make sure we cut it in the right spot you got there okay all right so we're right right there right there are we sure yeah right here we go all right so so anyway and when that relationship with God was severed they know look you're not helping me out here I'm gonna run out of rope come on show me where I need to cut it right they need to be exactly okay okay we're all right okay so why do you keep making me cut it in the wrong spot I'm trying to do a trick here you're ruining my magic trick all right tell me carefully and make sure you do it in the right right spot you're sure okay all right all right so anyway there it's a magic trick so here's what we'll do I figured out we'll just line up the ends all right we'll just line up the ends and if you line up the end doesn't it make sense of the ropes to be the same okay so will I have the end so the relationship with God was cut and they no longer had this great relationship with God because they had disobeyed him just like when you disobey your mom and dad your relationship with your mom and dad even though there's still your parents you're not exactly getting along with them the same you know what I mean there's like this this tension between your mom and dad right until you make it right by saying you're sorry well the same thing happens with us when we disobey God our relationship with God is broken and people try to fix it in a lot of different ways they try to go to church does that does that fix our relationship with God if we just go to church no that's not enough right is this rope fixed I mean I tied a knot but it's not back to the way it was so people decide to say prayers is that fixed they try giving money is that fixed they tried doing good deeds is it fixed they try reading the Bible is that fixed they try it they people think of all kinds of things doing service and okay but you no matter how much I clean up this knot it's still a knot isn't it you know there's really only one thing that can restore our relationship with God and you know what that is it's Jesus the Bible says that Jesus died on the cross and you know what preachers use big words sometimes that they really don't need to use maybe you've heard a preacher say Jesus is the atonement for our sins and you're like what in the world does that mean well you know what the word atonement is a big Bible word that means a covering that's all the word atonement means so what it means is that Jesus covers up our sin so when we ask Jesus to be our Savior what he does is you ever heard this freshen that Jesus washes away our sin what it means is that Jesus's death on the cross washes away our sin and he becomes our atonement he covers up our sin that means that when God looks at your life he doesn't see your sin now he knows it's there you can't fool God he sees everything but he chooses not to see it he chooses to see Jesus instead of you so when you stand before God someday you're either gonna stand there where your sin is visible and God's gonna say I can't let you into heaven because you've got sin I don't let send to heaven or you're gonna stand there with the covering of Jesus and he's gonna say you know what you've accepted Jesus you get to come in and we have that choice and everyone who's accepted Jesus as their Savior gets to go to heaven with their sin forgiven here's I want you to grab that rope and what happens when we accept Jesus is a he not only covers our sin but he actually repair our relationship with God it's not a not done with works and prayers and church-going he actually makes our relationship with God go ahead let go back to the way it was and that's why it's called good news give her a big round of applause thank you very much I appreciate you very very much you did an excellent job whatever expose wrap up okay well I've got one more trick that I want to do for you and I will need one more assistant from the audience now I need someone who's really good at following directions oh no hands went down well I'm gonna have to narrow it down I need somebody who who when they get home from school the first thing they do is their homework oh no hands went down okay so after they do their homework they they study the subjects that they don't have homework in oh no hands went down okay and so then after they do that they they clean their room a few hands went down all right and then after they clean their room they go into the kitchen they find their mother and they say mom is there anything I can do to help around the house oh I'm moving to Canada well wonderful children you raised here this is fantastic oh my goodness this is much wonderful children oh my goodness you see in America all the kids hands went down at that point oh my goodness this is this is wonderful all right so I guess I just have to pick one all right let's see here let's see here all right a little girl to save them from the consequences of their sin just like we talked about with those three ropes whether we've sinned a little sin to medium or sinned a lot there's no sinner that's too big of a sinner that God can't forgive them and there's nobody good enough to go to heaven we all have to ask Jesus to be that atonement that covering for us so that we can go to heaven and if you're here tonight whether you're a child or whether you're a grown-up or a grandma or grandpa if you've never given your heart to Jesus I hope that you will make that decision before you stand before God and have to give an account for that paperclip you stole or something far worse and I hope you know that this church or the church that you came with is a place you can go to learn more about Jesus and more about the forgiveness that he offers let me pray for you dear lord I thank you for these boys and girls I thank you for their energy and we thank you most of all for the love of Christ and we thank you Lord that you are the true miracle worker the changer of hearts the changer of life situations when we are willing to give our hearts and our lives to you Lord what an honor and a privilege
