Growing up, I had friends that would be like, “Oh my God. You’re so strong." How are you? How is this…” I always just felt surprised when people say that to me. I’m like, “I look strong to you?” It must be a crazy facade. You know, I’ve always been working with Tyler. I I had never asked him to be on it. I just showed him the song like, "Oh yeah, I have this new song." When I saw that he really liked it I was like, "Why don't you get on it?" If it feels good then it works. Music is about energy, and everything just flowed. Everything was just super natural. I did an interview with the board and they asked me, "Who do you want to work with?" I was like, "It would be cool to work with Bootsy Collins." He reached out to me on Twitter. He DM'd me. He was like, "Hey I heard you want to work with me. Let's make it happen." I'm like, "What? You use Twitter?" That was kind of the starting point of where I was at when I wrote this song was like...thinking about how much all these people are going through that I can’t be there for them. You live close to someone or not, we’re all in life alone. We’re born alone. We die alone. And that’s just the reality of the situation. When my dad came to America, he vowed he was gonna bring as much family as he could. A lot of my little cousins didn’t have their parents at all, because their parents were staying at our house trying to send toys and clothes back to them, and send money for them and do what they could. You see everybody grow up before your eyes every time I go back to see my family. The babies are teenagers now and it’s like, damn. I missed out on your whole life. If you like look in the mirror you just be like, "You're that bitch. You're gonna do" "amazing today. You're fucking beautiful. You're killing it." You know you just tell yourself all the things you need to hear, 'cause sometimes you don't have anybody else to tell you that. You know? You just have to learn not to expect people to do that but do it for yourself. Everybody has their own method. I like to be alone. I believe in solidarity and isolation. Getting closer to yourself is getting closer to God. That's how I pick myself up and that’s how I keep myself going when bad stuff happens to me. I have a huge level of respect for people who actually work hard and are survivors. When you're in a good place or when you're the unicorn that was able to get out of the circumstances which doesn't happen for a lot of people because of the way the system is built. It's easy to be like, "Oh well, I got here. Anything is possible. You can do it too." "Why can't you just do it for yourself?" It's not that easy for everybody. Just because you're losing at the time doesn't mean you're a loser yet. You don't have to think that you lost just 'cause everything around you feels like you're not a winner. Anything someone wants to do, anything you want to be as long as you put enough hours into it, into learning that, practicing that, fully embodying that, living it, breathing it, eventually you'll get there. Everybody wants overnight success. For what? It's limited. Overnight success is limited and it's not timeless.
