Collins what's your Christmas wish the gift I want this year won't be found under any tree Harold this isn't the time well I think it is look I'm proud of Channel seven I'm proud of all of you and this station it was 1952 and my dad became excited about that new upstart thing called television and thought the Paradise area should have its own local station well since then we've worked hard to tell the stories and to share the news and now after all these years statewide channel 5 wants to put a bureau in paradise don't get excited well somebody has to they don't care about paradise they never have of course they care but our advertising dollars that is exactly we can barely make it now I mean we need some fresh ideas how are we going to generate sales increase our advertisers keep our viewers and grow our market wow what a way to kill a party are you finished not yet I'm not but if something doesn't change we just might be at least as an independent station that's gonna follow but uh here goes my wish for this Christmas is that we hire an associate producer that will knock the socks off of our viewers and who will send our would-be competition back to where they came from knowing they can't mess with paradise 7 the best station so are there any question how will you know this Associate Producer when you see them hmm that's a good question and I suppose you have a good answer when doesn't she oh no because the person I'm praying for will have heart heart that's it yeah that's it boy are we in trouble it's that simple pass to me don't let it bother you guys I'm the only one working [Laughter] yes may I help you hi I'm looking for a job a job yes you saw the ad in the paper the Associate Producer job right right yeah you're right of course you [Music] know I can't seem to find my resume not a very good way to start a job interview by the way I'm Joe McNamara I'm Lucy Collins I'm the news director it's nice to meet you mr. Collins you know Lucy made most everything she's a wonderful cook pushing well thank you both so how long have you lived in Chicago Joe my entire life tell us Joe what compelled you to move from the Windy City to our little paradise well I've never experienced small-town life before I thought it might be a nice change change from what from the city you know smog aversives clean air traffic jams versus car piles hey I'm still eating let's just say paradise is where the road led tell me of all the towns in all of Wisconsin why did you have to walk into ours Spencer Tracy right Bogart Humphrey Bogart oh right well why did you enough from you I'm sorry you have to excuse my brother he's a little short on the famous Collins charm it's all right I admire Mike's protective nature I'd do the same if you want to know something about me I'll tell you but I'm gonna warn you it's pretty boring well I'll be the judge of that well I went to the University of Chicago and I received my undergraduate degree in video journalism and I never really had a chance to use it that is until now and I've always wanted to be a television producer so I thought this would be a nice place to start I agree your application and it says something about you worked in a hospital yes yes uh well a medical library it's it was just something to do until the right job came along I take it you've never been married waiting for that too until the right girl to come along well you're in luck paradise is teeming with available ladies of course the Willowbend rest home won't let them out past 7:30 but don't you ever know when to stop talking no no well it's time for the highlight of the evening what do you mean evening of the year oh well it's day two of our multi-day operation of trimming the tree but it's still more than three weeks until Christmas what's the hurry cuz it's almost three weeks until Christmas okay all right let's have at it okay I must say the tree already looks amazing doesn't it all the ornaments are so unique everyone's different when my parents first got married they wanted to have ornaments that reflected their lives together each year we added new ornaments when Lucy and Mike came along we kept adding ornaments that would be special to them so when they leave our house they can take their ornaments and memories with them that's a great tradition so what's the story behind this one nothing put it back in the box Margaret I thought you got rid of that please give it to me I'm sorry I I've done something wrong no you haven't it's it's all right no but I didn't mean to it's all right come on we've got a lot of work to do and we only have three weeks what do you want [Music] you will soon learn mr. he says you better come early if you want to see it at the Christmas concert I have to admit I'm one of these people - Joe you know see you love Christmas you told me yourself Jesus is the reason for the season I know he is it's just that I struggle with feeling all alone especially at Christmas what makes you feel that way what are you analyzing me no no I care about you well then there's something you should know about me Lucy you can tell me anything I really think I can even though it's been two years I still struggle over my broken engagement as if you couldn't figure that one out yourself would you like to tell me about it Christmas is really hard for me it's hard for a lot of people present company included I've been thinking a lot about what pastor Owen said about how the constant conflict between good and evil is magnified at Christmas yeah me too what does Christmas magnify for you Lucy Collins for Christmases ago I became engaged I see two years ago right before Christmas it ended I'm sorry do you remember when you took out the heart ornament from the box I seem to recall that my fiancee gave that ornament to me the Christmas we got engaged every time I see it I can't help but think about how happy I was that Christmas or how happy I thought I was so that heart symbolizes how you felt for each other it's an unhappy reminder have you ever thought about embracing the happy memories you and Derek shared together and just leaving the rest behind you what is it well I don't remember mentioning Derek's name it's a small town Lucy mrs. Bosher initially I watched these DVDs to get to know Derek instead I got to know you and I fell in love with you you didn't fall in love with me he fell in love with the person I was pretending to be there is no way that you were pretending in this episode you talked about when rusty was dying I cried right along with you and in this episode you talked about getting Toby as a puppy how many pairs of shoes to eat you up and in this episode you talked about wanting to go back to college and you felt you would disappoint your parents if you left the station yes stop it Joe after Derek's death I needed to change a scenery and a colleague of mine put in a good word for me at Chase Reinhardt and Steele so I went to practice with Angela and her partners but I took these DVDs with me I shouldn't have they weren't mine but I couldn't let go of you so now two years later I return them to you the first time you came into the station Mike knew you were hiding something he was right why didn't you just tell me the truth because I didn't know what the truth was and then one night I wrestled with God it was painful and I'm sure it's not over just ask Pastor Owens but I discovered it's not about me or about what I think is right or my impressions of who or what God is or isn't it's about the truth he brings peace and life that can be found nowhere else it's that simple it has to be and so now I present to you 103 episodes of Lucy loves you but I sent 104 I know because it was exactly one a week for two years and here I assume his 104 but it's unopened it arrived shortly after Derek's death he never saw it I'm surprised you didn't open it I couldn't it wasn't addressed to me and there's nothing left I could do for Derek give me another chance Lucy I give you a job back didn't I you know helps me I came across a passage in Proverbs that says God has always known me I find this comforting especially when these days I I'm finding it hard to know myself I also read my favorite poem last night from Robert Frost it's the one about two paths diverging in a yellow wood and taking the one road less traveled tarek I have been on the path well traveled the safe road I feel as if though God is calling me to go down a different path I've stopped fighting it even if this means hurting someone I care about Derek I've changed I'm not the person I was two years ago we've both grown but in different directions away from each other Derek I don't love you at least not the way that I should now that you're back in the States and receiving needed care it's time you know I've made a promise I can't keep I hope and pray that God and you will forgive me by Derek that wasn't what I was expecting I know you expected some heartfelt episode Lucy loves you but it's not Derek saw me as someone I wasn't and you saw me the same way it's all an illusion your love for me is based on a charade see listen Joe in the beginning I did love Derek at least I thought I did he even asked me to marry him the Christmas right before he left to go overseas when he gave you the ornament that's right looking back now I realized it he never really loved me at all they're rude signs and stories I just at first I just ignored ignored it but after a year went by I realized that I didn't know him even though my feelings changed I couldn't bring myself to send him into your John video so I kept sending them and that explains why the second half of the episodes were more about life around you rather than about you you noticed that so when I did finally tell him you thought you killed him you bring me that envelope was a gift Derek never saw it neither did you you fell in love with someone who doesn't exist I'm sorry but you do exist I have gotten to know the real you I love you and watching those videos over and over again it was obvious to me that your your feelings for Derek changed but your impression on life and your commitment to your your family and faith and you beautiful you feel every image and every second I needed to find you I needed to know I needed to love you so can we just start over no past no DVDs I have a gift for you what is it it's an early Christmas present well
