with me let us exalt his name together we welcome you to the virtual and live experience for the capitol hills seventh-day adventist church the journey to joy bible conference beginning our second week and i don't know what you came to do but i came to praise the lord can you put your hand together in celebration wherever you are in your home or in this building if you love god somebody ought to shout amen somebody ought to shout glory to god somebody ought to shout thank you jesus for bringing us one more day what a mighty god what a mighty god what a mighty god we serve if in fact you're glad if you can just think of one thing that god brought you through this week if you could just think about a monday or a tuesday or wednesday or thursday or friday blessing if you could just still inhale and exhale you can just wave your hand you can still say i will bless the lord at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth are you glad about it somebody shout thank you jesus father in the name of jesus we declare that you are king of kings and that you are lord of lords as we are gathering around our devices as we are gathering in this place as we are are moving into your very presence would you have your way in this place we declare that you are god all by yourself you have given us this day and we're just asking that you would take us from where we are to where you desire us to be matter of fact take us as thread between thy finger the loom weave us into the fabric of your will for we would be in the raiment of the most high god i thank you lord for bringing us through one more week and we're asking that you bless this service in the mighty and massless name of jesus somebody shout out amen turn to your neighbor say neighbor i don't know what you came to do but i came to praise the lord amen and amen amen i want you to know that i'm glad to be in the house i know people are are still coming and they are still gathering around their devices and still getting to the very attitude of prayer we're just asking that you would continue to pray that god will bring peace in the land we are in washington dc and they're they're having a rally today and there are a lot of things going a lot of moving parts but one thing i do know that god is still on the throne god is still on the throne he still sits high and he still looks low well about an hour ago i was blessed i was blessed to perform officiate and be a part of a wonderful baptism i want you to know that you may know these two individuals who decided to renew their vows with each other and with god and at this time i want you to pause and act as you look at where you are in christ maybe you can you can visualize yourself doing the same thing and i want you to know that on next week there is going to be an opportunity but at this time let us focus in on a baptism that just took place an hour ago in this place morning we want to welcome into the pool sarah jones and pastor jon jones [Music] celebrate this beautiful occasion where this fine couple is renewing their vows i don't know about you but every now and again we need to make sure that god has been placed back in the center and there is always a refreshing when we do it god's way i thank you god today for this ordinance and i thank god for the ones who are accepting this ordinance as a public symbol of their love for you and their love for each other and it's because of this we do now lovingly baptize you sister sarah in the name of the father name of the son and the name of the holy ghost let everybody say because of the fact that there is always a blessing when we put god first we love you and we appreciate you and this fine couple and it's because of your love for him and your love for your family and of what god is going to do with many of you if you feel that you need to make a choice to renew and to freshen and to give god number one place back into your life i want to challenge you today as the marlon sallows as his mother has passed away we want you to keep him in prayer and all the names are up there on the screen we want you to pray for elder charles bradford as well and his family we want you to pray for sister carol white the wife of pastor henry wright we want you to keep their entire families and your prayer saints and if possible please contact us so we can tell you how to send condolences we are excited even though we are grieving through these losses because god has led us into another season for our bible conference i don't know if you've been watching uh that's the on thursday so our speaker can catch her voice and then she came back friday and dropped oh my goodness i don't know if you have if you've seen it but it has convicted me it has pushed me and it has i'm actually about to make dinner although i don't feel like it i'm kind of tired has that ever happened to you when you have to do something even when you've been asked by god to do it and you don't want to maybe because you're tired or maybe because it's outside of your comfort zone well that has definitely happened to me i believe god asked me or wanted me to do these kitchen moments but at first i said no way not happening but then i was reminded of the story of astor in the bible when her uncle murder ki came to her and said perhaps you were placed in the palace for such a time as this those words resonated with me perhaps i was able to get experience doing plays and skits and write stories just so i would be able to have a kitchen moment and it would touch someone and give them hope during this pandemic what about you what has god called you to do has he called you to be faithful in your tithes and offerings even in this poor economic time if he has then be faithful because god wants to bless you and he wants you to be a blessing just as esther was a blessing to her people this has been a kitchen moment by cheryl until next time bye [Music] amen amen amen amen we praise god for this moment because it is a moment where we are gathering together [Music] to make sure that we honor our god with our families [Music] and so we're going to have a baby dedication and we're going to that make sure you go up one step one step two steps go a little higher yeah yeah yeah amen now for those of you who perhaps do not know who this is this is the family of pastor jones and pastor jones very passionate about making sure that his seed was covered in prayer and i don't know about you but i i believe that god wants our children and our families to be blessed and so this day i am asking pastor stanley at this time to just introduce this moment and introduce the children that will be blessed in these next few moments i am so happy to introduce pastor jones's grandchildren in this moment uh we we have jaina and charles that are dedicating their three children this morning and in this moment uh just very quickly saints if we just pray god's blessings over this service god we want to thank you for the parents thank you for children and i pray that your spirit will abide with us in this moment as we dedicate them back to you amen this morning saints we have alma alma let's say amen for alma saints amen and then we have charlize i'm gonna get out of the way let's say amen again saints for charlize amen and then we have gene john john i'm sorry good morning john let's say amen for john again saints amen and we're just so encouraged that they have brought their children here to be blessed by god amen well welcome welcome thank you for being wise to bring your children to the lord because it's going to take that just for the next few moments i want you to understand that maybe some of you who are here most of you have been a part of a baby dedication over the years and some perhaps have not i just wanted to spend maybe a minute or two telling you what the baby dedication is not and then a minute saying what a baby dedication really is a child dedication and we have three children and they're beautiful it's not actually biblically required did you know that there are examples in scriptures when a parent dedicates their child like hannah i believe it's a good thing but it is not a required thing so first of all you need to understand it's not biblically required but it is a good thing to cover your children in prayer secondly a child or a baby dedication is is not salvific that's a big word it's a three dollar word but it simply means it simply means what we are doing this morning is not going to make your children spiritual it's not going to make them save it's not going to make them destined for heaven because it is only by grace that we have been saved through faith and it's not of ourselves so this service is not what saves any child what saves people is god's grace but thirdly and finally you got to recognize and this is my favorite right here she reminds me of my youngest a child dedication is not related [Music] at all to baptism see baptism is a public act of being immersed in water to symbolize that we have immersed our lives in jesus christ but next sabbath on the 25th we will offer a baptismal service and just a few minutes ago sister sarah and pastor john they renewed their vows in baptism so it's it's not any one of these things what really is a child dedication service well [Music] a baby dedication is ultimately about receiving god's precious gift of children with a sense of joy and a sense of responsibility and it is a responsibility to say yes i am going to raise these kids to know and follow jesus christ what is a baby dedication number two it's also about modeling jesus's love for little ones why because the only god that they will see until they reach the age of accountability and make decisions on their own is the god that they see in you and the god that they see in us and then thirdly what is the baby dedication it's an initial step in obeying god's commands to raise children to know and to follow him so father don't exasperate your children instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the lord teach them to love the lord their god with all their hearts tie them symbols to make sure that they know scriptures and do scriptures so i want you to know [Music] janna and charles recognize the sacredness of this responsibility and now as we bring back these three children to the god who we were blessed them we declare that i'm gonna put god first and foremost in my home as i have put them in my life so i'm challenging you today to make sure that you count your blessings instead of your crosses count your gains instead of your losses count your ups instead of your downs count your smiles instead of her friends count the good deeds instead of the the mean count the full years instead of the lean count your health instead of your wealth and most of all count on god instead of yourself may god bless you as parents as we give them back to the lord that have [Music] blessed you in this moment praise god at this time we're going to be blessed by pastor jones as we lay our hands on each one of the children we ask you to lay hands on one pastor you're going to lay hands on one and then i'm going to lay hands on the little boy and these children will sure not be blessed today amen [Music] uh i want to say a word before we pray i just want to let you know that this is the gold g-o-l-d these are my youngest children my youngest son charles mark was not able to make it apparently he was supposed to be his next youngest son uh but uh they came all the way from providence rhode island wow amen and at an inconvenience because they missed their flight they get on the bus they arrived early this morning but uh they're here and we are thankful for that so let us bow our heads at this time as we pray [Music] loving father in heaven i want to thank you for the effort the dedication of charles and jonah coming all the way from providence rhode island down here to washington dc to bring their children to be blessed alma josephine shall eyes teresa [Music] and john louis jones we pray father that your grace may be sufficient we thank you for jonna the mother we thank you for charles the father and lord we pray that you would please help them first to dedicate their own lives to you that they may be in a position to raise these children in the nurture and admonition of the lord we thank you for their effort for their willingness for their love we thank you lord for allowing each child to arrive here safely to be born safety not one has any health problems we thank you lord so much that you were in that from their conception you were with them through that delivery and even now to their raising up we ask a special blessing on each child especially alma josephine [Music] teresa and john louis we pray that you please place your hand on them allow your spirit to rest upon them but then your name may be glorified in them pray for the power of christ to be in their lives that their parents may set the example before them that they may raise them in the ur nurturing adventists of god they may be brought to sabbath school and church services and to whatever they need in order to develop the character of christ someday they may be able to go down to the pool of baptism and be ready for christ coming soon we thank you father so much for your grace and for your mercy we ask these blessings in the name of the father the son and the holy ghost amen amen [Music] and that love extends to everyone that they love so here today daughter your son your situation is going to be resolved let's lift up our voices and declare that we really need the lord in this place today and we lord i don't want to do tradition i'm tired of doing the stuff that i've done week after week and i need a breakthrough this week if that's just you just lift your hands just just worship him for who he is as we sing our prayer song and prepare our hearts for prayer we need you lord we need you lord right now hallelujah we need you we need you lord we need you lord right now [Music] we lift our hands [Music] to lord right now one more time and then we go into i need thee somebody needs to hear it we need you lord we need you lord right now [Music] we need your lord right we lift our hands we used to say an envy we lift our heads and bow and we're so grateful that you have allowed us to come into your house [Music] we have allowed we're so grateful that you have allowed those of us who are streaming to come into your presence we need you lord we need you we need you because we need healing lord we need healing of our bodies of our minds and our souls lord we need you now and we ask lord that you will heal us according to your will [Music] grant us the health that we need lord so that we can proclaim your message the current call must go out that soon and very soon he that shall come will come and will not tarry so father we are so grateful that you have used your maidservant this past week my my mind pastor lola johnston was have given us bread from the hot ovens of the holy spirit lord and now father we come to this week you're brought another mighty servant of god dr jesse wilson we ask father that you will continue to bless him as you have ministered to him and we're ready lord our hearts are open our minds are open we're ready to hear your word today so bless him lord and through him bless us and help us to realize it's not about us but it's all about you so grant us your peace grant us your mercy lord i just ask that you'll be with those who are sick and shut in i ask lord that your spirit will come by them whether they're in the hospital or at home or nursing home or wherever they may be lord fall on them so that they will have your presence today as well and remember those who are mourning lord we ask that you put your loving arms around them and let them know that it won't be long it won't be long we shall see our family our friends again if we stay faithful so father help us to stay faithful help us to realize that it is all about you so live out your life as we go on this sabbath and bless us we pray in the worthy name of jesus jesus that sweet name jesus amen amen and amen this morning we are beyond excited because we have the opportunity today to celebrate a group of bible scholars in fact these individuals have been studying many of them since october of 2020 and today we wanted to let them know that we celebrate their diligence in the study of god's word and so today we have our first faith facts graduation of the journey to joy bible conference we're going to show you our graduates some of them today but we want you to know that some of them are studying with us virtually from as far away as california pennsylvania new york and even canada they have been diligently studying on tuesdays and thursday nights at seven o'clock and today we want to celebrate their accomplishments they have been studying the faith facts series which has been authored by our pastor dr peeler and some of them have studied so much that they have gone into the next level of study which is entitled 40 days with jesus and so today we're going to ask you're going to see them come on to the screen in just a moment but we wanted to recognize them as well as their teachers who week by week by week have been studying the word of god together do you see them on the screen this morning we are so grateful that you took the time today to come online so that we can celebrate you we're going to just call the ones who are on the line but we do want you to know that there are 20 uh 22 graduates in this group and you see a representation of them on the screen on the screen you will see shondell collins andrea howe just wave when your name is called lisa yancey raynette and jesse weiss and these individuals who are on the line did all of the faith facts and the 40 days with jesus miss brenda battle mr ronald ward all the way from canada um sonia bartholomew from new york sierra hall sylda alexander and donna bartholomew all the way from new york and so we are grateful for their diligence they're teachers who also study with them from week to week many of them are here you saw dr lydia mclean online but if any of the teachers are here we just want to recognize you as well uh dr lydia mclean elder harry valcourt hazel lofton greg owen jackson trevor donaldson donna holt lystra antoine josue pierre and elder colin ballet who's providing critical phone line support for those individuals who call in but before we close i just want to also recognize elder samuels who is the coordinator of this he has been very diligent in making sure that our students study week after week and that our teachers are able to share with them and so each of our graduates will receive a certificate depending on which level of faith facts they have completed we will mail them to those who are out of state and so they will get these mementos and we want to encourage them to continue studying graduates we are proud of you we appreciate you for taking time out of your schedule today to be celebrated we want to encourage you to continue studying and going deeper into the word of god and so before we close we just want to encourage everyone this bible study is open to yeah i want to thank michelle jones for inviting me here this morning i love capitol hill sda church i love this church it's a beautiful church now uh wasn't the praise and worship wonderful yeah it was just what i needed sometimes god gives you exactly when you what you need when you least expect it and he really gave that to me and i really like that we need you lord because i never pretend like i never need god i always need him and i wasn't going to talk about this but i am going to talk about it now back in 2008 i had a brain tumor on my head it was covering the back of my head in the top of my spine and had no idea and one day the headaches got real real bad they rushed me to the hospital and all the doctors came in and medevaced me to georgetown hospital and i just remember blacking out i kept blacking out kept blacking out and when they finally got me to calm down my blood pressure calmed down and they had me laying there the doctor came in and she came in and she had this big book it's thick she started reading everything that was going to go wrong for me she was telling me she was like you know the point that we're catching the tumor um she was like you could either be paralyzed yeah or she was telling me i could either be blind or she told me i would never play music again never play music again and then at the very end she told me she said look we're really not expecting to be able to pull you out of this because of where we are and so i remember my family my dad was there we prayed and told the doctor he said no we were praying family and we prayed and um yeah now i haven't i didn't come to make anybody sad or anything of that nature because you can see me standing here in front of y'all [Applause] i'll never turn my back on god he's been so good to me now capitol hill i don't know what you've been through i don't know what god has brought you through i don't know trials and tribulations that you're going through right now i know you're probably going through something we're in a tough season with covet but if you can get that one thing in your mind that god has either brought you through or he's about to bring you through and you know he's gonna bring you through it can you start praising god and just waving your hands giving god and if you really love them you can stand on your feet and give god a big praise yeah [Music] about him in a second i've been knowing him for a long time long time and to brenda woman of prayer and a woman of power let's celebrate god for her and i want to thank you michelle always on time i feel safe when i see michelle in the house amen i just feel i love you peter but i feel safe when i see michelle in the house and to the staff the tremendous job that they're doing tim tim i haven't haven't heard tim lee praise and worship for no no i've seen you since kingsborough temple but you are a gift my brother let's celebrate god for tim [Music] and of course for my brother who just i miss your name but i didn't miss your ministry that brother mercy just tremendous my tremendous ministry of music tremendous i have been following as best i can the journey of joy uh bible conference and uh the holy ghost has been moving in a marked way i tell you this is the lord's doing and his marvelous in our eyes sister lola has been tremendous and the music and the just everything you know i was thinking this morning that we probably need to be more conscious of seasons spiritual seasons psalm 1 [Music] encourages us to remember that seasons are important in the lives of christians and whenever there is a meeting a bible conference like this bible conference it's a season of miracles it's a season of restoration it's a season of redemption this is a wonderful season that's why i told them i'm glad to be here i'm on the road a lot and when i come to this church i feel like just just telling everybody i don't feel like shaking your hand individually i just say glad to see you but this is a season and you need to know how to get in and touch the hymn of christ's garment as he passes by in seasons like this i want to encourage those of you who are already online and have been online regularly i've been with you that there are opportunities for you to respond today and as the week progresses i've seen it as pastor lola has been preaching there's a link that we want to draw your attention to even now or will be as we ask you regularly to respond there will be a number that you can call that will allow you likewise to respond because this is a season of decision y'all miss what i just said this is a season of this the reason it is a season of decision is because the devil also knows how important seasons are and who knows but that this might be the last opportunity of this kind for us to make life-changing decisions again dr pilla is a gift to the body of christ i said dr k peeler's a gift to the body of christ you you should know that i do not think that there is a better combination of pastor and evangelist in the seventh day adventist church i just don't haven't seen and i've been a lot of places i have not seen it and i'm not just talking i teach it i use him as an example in my christian liturgy in black lit class and i i talk about him and his levels of evangelism when i'm teaching public evangelism and personal evangelism but beyond that he has a personal uh capacity a soft skill y'all miss what i just said sounds good because you know you can learn a lot in a book and a lot still left on the table soft skills the lord has blessed you in a marvelous way and so you guys need to take advantage of this season of leadership let's celebrate our leader one more time for the tremendous job he is doing [Music] just wanted to get some announcements in and out of the way thank you for this theme journey to joy and it's from that theme that i'm going to preach this morning i want to draw your attention let me get there to john chapter 2. john chapter 2 beginning with verse 1. and i'm going to read several verses beginning with verse 1. i think i'll go down to verse 10. and the third day there was a marriage in cana of galilee and the mother of jesus was there just a familiar passage i'm just just just going just going through things that have occurred as i've studied this passage in the lives of people that i love and both jesus was called and his disciples to the marriage [Music] and when they wanted wine the mother of jesus saith unto him they have no wine they have no wine now let me just say parenthetically that's not a question that's a command that's that's not an observation that's a charge they have no wine jesus said unto her woman what have i to do with thee mine hour is not yet come his mother saith unto the servants whatsoever he saith unto you do it and that was set there six you know this door water parts of stone after the manner of the purifying of the jews containing two or three ferkins of a peace jesus saith unto them draw out now and bear unto the governor of the feast and they bear it look at this when the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine and knew not where it came from but servants which drew the water knew the governor of the feast called the bridegroom and this is what he said you know it and he said unto him every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine [Music] and when men have well drunk then that which is worse but thou has kept the good wine somebody say good wine until the now i want to talk about bring back the joy speak to my heart holy spirit give me a word [Music] that will bring new life words on the wings of the morning the dark knights will fade away [Music] speak to my heart speak to my heart you're the holy spirit send a message of love to encourage me lifting my heart from despair i know you love me i know you care for me [Music] speak to my heart speak to my heart [Music] to my heart [Music] yes jesus speak to my heart [Music] speak to my heart [Music] listen speak to my heart lord give me your holy word if i can't hear from you then i'll know what to do i won't go alone no no i never go on my own just let your spirit guide [Music] lord we thank you today that you have the power you're willing and you're able to speak to our hearts we pause now as we officially begin this spiritual journey together to ask you to restore our joy we need it back some needed back haven't lost it but those who've never received it help them to know after they've heard this preachment that the joy of the lord is their strength we thank you for pastor lola more johnston what a gift and we thank you for the decisions that have been made to this point and now god we pray that you would stand up and you would clear your throat and you show yourself strong and we are determined to give you the praise for what takes place not only today but throughout the weeks of this great bible conference journey to joy this is our prayer in jesus name amen amen and amen i want to talk about uh bringing back the joy thank you for that theme dr peeler bring back the joy this passage in john the second chapter beginning with verse 1 is familiar to most of us my brothers and sisters i want to remind you that jesus had a habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people y'all miss what i just said let me say the thing i said jesus the lion of the tribe of judah had a habit of practice of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people but let all comfort you because if he's ever been to your house [Applause] then you recognize that he can do anything with anybody can i get a witness in this place and that is perhaps why this passage is so captivating to us because uh it should not be lost on any of you here today that jesus in john the second chapter is at a party serving wine i i don't want to be in delicate but i'ma say it again jesus he was not at a school board meeting serving students he he was at a party serving wine he was not at a local church serving members he was at a party serving wine he wasn't even at a shelter serving homeless people you know we do that now he was at a party and he was he was that's what the bible said i didn't put that in there that's what the bible said now i know that many of you are already making the universal ship was it alcoholic was it non-alcoholic was it wine or was it a wine cooler uh was it grape juice how long could grape juice last in the blazing heat without turning it into wine but don't disturb yourself that's not my focus today i want to prioritize the party can i talk about the part he was at a party serving wine come on somebody jesus was at a party and i want you to know that that that that is something that i've always loved about jesus he knew where the people were he had the heart of the people always in front of him the bible says the pharisees said but they were right they said jesus was a friend of sinners and then jesus said of himself i came to seek and i came to save that which was lost and one of the most appealing things about the word of god those of you all who are looking at this virtually and certainly those of you all who are in the house yes there are some incredible debacles in the lives of god's people in the word of god when you look at people like david it makes you scratch your head when you look at moses the murderer it makes you scratch your head but when you observe how god worked through their lives you can have the confidence that there's room at the cross for me jesus was at a party brothers and sisters you and i can observe from the life of jesus that not only did he attend parties but he brought the party with him i said that i said jesus brought the party with them years ago i did an exposition of the gatherings that jesus frequented and i was absolutely amazed at how fascinated jesus was with feasts we call them parts feasts celebrations going on all the time and jesus seemed to always have a front row seat but not only did he attend those festive gatherings not only did he attend parties but as i said before jesus brought the party with them because jesus christ was the quintessential standard bearer for the word that characterizes and threads its way through this conference jesus was the picture of joy y'all miss what i just said jesus was the picture of joy which brings me to my first point today if you follow jesus you'll follow joy if you find jesus you'll find joy now i could have printed that up i'm a university professor i could have been more complicated but i want to get right to the case if you find and follow jesus you will find and follow joy your journey to joy will land you directly at the feet of jesus christ if you believe that put your hands together and celebrate our lord and our savior if you follow jesus you'll find joy unfortunately that is a concept that many christians find very difficult to get their heads around because we are heavy with facts we are very cerebral at times not recognizing that not only are we cerebral but we are emotional y'all miss what i just said god wants us to be holistic people people of the head people of the heart people who are volitional who are making wise decisions i know it's good to understand jesus but i want to experience jesus i know it's good to understand the principles of love but i'm married because i feel it every now and then love is a principle that expresses itself in an emotion joy finds his foundation in jesus christ but lord knows that's an emotion that you need to feel every now and then to keep going on this journey because you might not get tired of the journey but every now and then you can get tired on this journey i just said some of y'all miss what i just said you might not get tired of the journey but there are a whole lot of folk who are giving up because they're tied on the journey because of the challenges and for that reason i celebrate the theme of this conference journey to joy because my brothers and sisters if anyone should be full of joy it should be christians can i get a witness the bible says in first timothy chapter 6 and verse 17 that god gives us richly all things to enjoy ecclesiastes chapter 2 and verse 24 says there's nothing better for a man or woman that she should he should eat drink and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor now the inferences that you need the job but that's not my problem that's not my priority here the point is that when you work hard you ought to enjoy the fruit of your labor y'all miss it again i said you need to enjoy what god allows [Applause] and so the bible makes it clear that if anybody ought to be walking around filled with the joy of the lord then it should be his children am i right about that jesus said himself in john the 15th chapter listen these think verse 11 these things have i spoken unto you that you may have joy that my joy might remain in you and listen and that your joy may be full the problem with too many of us and it is my joy to work on a university campus and it is my joy serving your students but your students got issues just like i had when i was a student y'all hear what i just said too many of them are doing what their parents did trying to find joy in all the wrong places i said and i ain't scared of y'all i said too many of them are trying to find joy in all of the wrong places relationships that you can see bad a mile away did you hear what i just said i got four kids and five grandkids i can smell a bad relationship telling us i'm i gotta have him and i'm gonna die just like the old folk that cliche is true if i don't get him i'm gonna die you get him then you want to be dead there's a problem when we try to find joy in the wrong places kind of find a witness but that old sabbath school that old a.y.m.v song used to teach us when we were kids about neha if you want joy real joy somebody say all right let jesus come into your heart come on say praise the lord my first point this morning as we begin our journey together is that if you follow jesus you will find real joy but let's read on the bible says beginning with verse 3 and when they wanted wine the mother of jesus said unto jesus they have no one don't miss this now watch this the mother of jesus who's kind of like your mama and my mama the wine runs out and she says they have no wine and she said woman what have i to do with thee mine hours not come you know his mother says look at this until the service whatever he tells you to do do it whatever he tells you to do i'm coming back there put a pen in there whatever he you want your how many of y'all want joy put a pen right there whatever he tells you to do you need to do it first point is if you want joy real joy wonderful joy you got to let jesus in and then you have to follow in his footsteps my second point is no matter how holy you are every now and then your joy is gonna run out that's gonna run out i know you know all the hymns and you memorize a whole lot of scripture but at some point that joy's gonna run out yeah i know things are going well at home right now somebody say right now right right now but just keep on living your joy at some point is gonna run out this is a total disaster you know it for the wedding host if the wine runs out in this culture it's more than an embarrassment in this culture when the wine runs out it's a breach of contract to the guest the wedding party is about to go home because the wine is run out the folding chair is about to be stacked away because the wine is run out the lights are about to be dimmed and the door is about to be locked because the wine has run out and the host will forever be marked by suspicion because the wine run out brothers and sisters the wine run out and the reason you and i need to squeeze this life for every ounce of joy that it brings at this moment is because at some point that wine that joy is gonna run out and it can run out at the worst times can it it can run out at the most inopportune times the most unexpected times you're deep in a relationship you're finally beginning to contemplate marriage and then you hear the words i don't love you anymore cause the wine has run out and you're thanking god for another year of life and you're contemplating like so many people do where i live in huntsville alabama enclaves of retired adventists prepare to live out the rest of your life together having carved out a bit of a retirement and then the doctor tells you i see something just three words hear what i said just three words just three words can turn your life around just three words can steal your your joy i was enjoying the best yeah i'm talking about myself the best years of my professional life at oakwood university because i was working with my best friend i mean the one that i grew up with i mean his office was right next door to my office dr george russell c theologian from vanderbilt university both of us grew up in memphis tennessee but cancer took his life and then out of nowhere suddenly you hear what i say brenda like where did this come from and i'm not by myself there's not one person in this church today not one person online virtually looking at this service who has not or at some point will not experience the rinsing pain of your wine just running out and i came to tell you that when your ryan runs out you might not know what to do but you show enough better know where to go the songwriter says it makes no difference what the problem i can go to god in prayer because i know that god can solve my problems when you've got issues like this and when your wine runs out you don't need to go to the phone you need to go to jesus when your wine is running out you don't need to go to your friends you need to learn how to go to jesus i believe in counseling i believe that the mental health of too many christians and non-christians alike is crumbling as we speak but your first order of business when you're having challenges your first order of business when your joy is waning is not to go to a counselor but you need to run to the mighty counselor when your wine runs out because jesus can restore your joy [Applause] i love what happened here let me just throw this in i didn't mean to go into it but mary jesus christ's mother was a lot like my mama did you hear what i just said they have a way of saying what they saying but not really meaning what they said y'all mess with that it just went right over your head they say what they say but they ain't mean in what they saying they mean something it may maybe maybe it's just me mothers have a way of saying stuff without saying stuff they'll come over your house like they come over my house and they'll say something like it's kind of hot in here did you hear what isaiah that's not a question that means cut on the air come on somebody yeah mothers have a way of saying they'll come into your house like she'll come into my house and she'll say it's kind of cold in here that's not a question that's that's not a coming that's a command that means you need to cut the air off or you need to bring me a cloak come on say amen and then i see it all the time with my daughters coming up their mother would look at them and they would be prepared to go to church and then she would say you're not going to church like that are you that's not a question i found out that's not a question that's a command to take those clothes off come on say amen brothers and sisters mary knew something about jesus that the onlookers didn't know about jesus christ the word came back that the wine was gone mary shouts out to her son they have no wine jesus began to mumble something about uh it's not my time mary did not hear word that jesus said because the next word she said was whatever he says you need to do what he's gonna say why because his mouth is sowing saying no but i know my son come on say amen [Applause] i know my son and i know that he can't face a problem without supplying a solution he can't face a disease without bringing healing he can't see a frown without bringing a smile he can't face death without bringing resurrection brothers and sisters mary knew about her son what you and i need to know about her son and that is that jesus can't help but bring back the joy if you're thankful for that put your hands together and let's thank the lord our god for bringing back the joy [Applause] and then jesus began to work his work start playing for me man cause i might be here for a while so jesus started playing working his magic and i'm putting the word magic in quotes because what i want you to put in that is miracles jesus started to work his miracles and jesus said you got six water pots he said i want you to go to those water pots and i want you to fill those water pots with water now y'all missed that that just went over your head right there he said i want you to fill the water parts with what jesus we ask you for wine we got more water than we need you said listen what i said fill the water parts with water my brothers and sisters i put a pen there for myself because there are times when jesus does things that make absolutely no sense to us things that are listen to me those of you all who are focusing on this virtually we need to repeat almost like a mantra the words of christ's mother whatever he says do if you want joy you got to do what jesus said do and sometimes what christ says seems to be totally counterintuitive to jesus i got folk that are on my job who are talking about me who are gospeling about me who are doing everything jesus said pray for those that despitefully use you jesus jesus jesus jesus i'm 20 years old i'm 25 years old and i got needs i i got desires and i don't know how much longer i can hold out and she said just wait wait wait wait that ain't the answer i was looking for jesus jesus i'm filled with leprosy and i got to get rid of this stuff and this woman telling me i got to dip in a nasty river seven times i can't see it jesus says go down not one time not two times not three four five times six times but if you do what jesus says do you'll receive the joy that jesus has for you if you believe that put your hands together and accept the certainty of the joy that jesus christ can bring brothers and sisters let me tell you something no matter your condition jesus can restore your what's going on in your house yeah what's going on in your house can i stop right here preach i don't want to do nothing out of pro card can i go right here this good i'm talking to you what's going on in your house yeah yeah i'm talking to you and i'm talking to me because many of us have almost made an art form ahead and playing hide and go see just playing hide and go see messed up on the inside and you know acting like everything is okay on the outside let me tell you something i'm not throwing shade on anybody because you're in the right place i said you're in the right place i said you're in the right place y'all miss i said you're in the right place [Music] but the question is what's what's going what is rob's your joy is it a kid at home they won't leave home that got somebody i felt that in my spirit right there they got they got some of y'all i need to drop the mic right there is it a kid at home that won't leave home it's a kid that graduated from and now they're in rehab is it a child that you poured your life into that now seems to be walking away from the god of her childhood what's going on in your house that's why we're here he won't fix it until i'm talking to you virtually he won't fix it until you face it [Music] what's going on forget the house what's going on with you what robs your joy what's robbing your certainty coping is bad but some of us were struggling emotionally and spiritually before the disease before the pandemic and it has only exasperated what was already wrecking homes recognized what's going on with you well i'm not gonna spend any more time with that i want you to draw your attention back to the miracle he can take nothing and make something out of it y'all miss what i said he didn't turn water to more water he didn't turn wine into more wine he turned something of an entirely different makeup and substance into something totally different [Applause] just it's it's it's a drug addict that's now a dentist it's a prostitute who's now at the feet of jesus wiping his feet with her hair is moses a murderer who's now a man it's you it's you it's you it's you it's you it's me it's your child it's your child it's your grandchild it's you he can restore your joy jesus philip the miracle happened and the bible records that they said he's done something that he'll do for everybody in this sanctuary today as we begin our journey together he can save the best for last i want to talk to you before i close but in verse 11 john uses this description of this miracle because it's the first miracle the word translated rk it can mean the first in line but it's more archetype it's more listen it's the first of a kind that's the point being made this miracle is the first of a kind it's an archetype it's going to keep coming up over and over and over again but when you look through scripture you look for this miracle that john describes as an archetype it is described as a third day miracle and you've traced the miracles of jesus and they're all special but they ain't third day miracles you're looking for a miracle here you look at it it's a great miracle but it's not just like the miracle at canaan until you get to a friday when a man was crucified and then you get to a saturday when he rested and then you see that on the third day he got up early on sunday morning and jesus gave us an illustration of restoration and he'll do the same thing for you [Music] [Applause] how many of y'all want to be restored [Music] stand to your feet with me all over this building i'm here on assignment and i love this assignment because i know what god can do [Music] jesus jesus jesus hit that [Music] just think about that name jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus i dare you to call his name right where you are jesus jesus jesus [Music] jesus jesus jesus jesus this is what he's going to do save yourself save your savior yes lord [Music] save your savior jesus jesus jesus let's try hilda that's what he did right here listen to me listen ladies and gentlemen there are only two groups of people in this sanctuary today it's not black and white it's not rich and poor it's saved or lost [Music] the question is what group are you in you're either saved or you're lost and so my first question today is the ultimate question and this is a question to those of you who are viewing this virtually and those of you all who are in front of me the question is are you saved can you say with confidence that i might not be well at the house but it showed up well with my soul because colossians 2 says right now i'm completing him i'm completing him my sins have been forgiven i'm wrestling every day but i'm walking up the king's highway the very first question i have is are you saved mary jesus christ's mother says whatever he tells you to do do it the word says whosoever shall call on the name of the lord shall be saved you want to be saved call on jesus christ's name right now dial the number hit the link but i want to ask you before i move on is there anybody under the sound of my voice with your eyes wide open who might not be saved and you don't have the confidence that you say just slip your hand up you ain't gonna ask you to come forward i want to pray for you you don't have complete confidence that if you were to close your eyes today i'm not talking about arrogance i'm talking about the confidence that you have that an exchange has taken place you gave him all that you have which is your dirt your sin your wretchedness and you're taking his grace as a gift have you done that if you've done that you need to be able to say with confidence that you're saved is anybody who wants me to pray for the pastor i got to have confidence that i'm saved well let me go into another group even while some of you all are thinking about there is somebody who's looking at me listening to me that doesn't have a church home [Music] if there's anything that we've recognized during this pandemic is the value of a church family we need the community of a church family we need the encouragement of a church family and then to have the added benefit of a church family that is walking in the truth of the gospel of jesus christ you need to be a part of this church family if you don't have a church family i'm inviting you virtually or in person to join this church family to make a decision today to become a part possibly of the next baptism some of you all have been studying for weeks and you know that god is speaking to you about becoming a part of this church mary says whatever he says do it and then let me get in your house most of us here are first second third generation christians to god be the glory but from time to time your joy can just seep out and your prayer today is lord restore my joy restore my joy make me a better husband make me a better wife make me a more grateful christian take the burdens away give me a guidance that will lead me to the work right person or the right resources lead me to the right pastor i can't keep going on the way that i'm going there's an emptiness inside that's separating me from the fullness of your joy if you want jesus to do the same thing for you that he did in this passage i want you to raise your hand raise your hand up restore my joy restore my joy i see it raise it high raise it high restore my father we thank you for those today who have responded in the way jesus christ responded to the promptings of his mother he she said whatever jesus christ says you need to do it they did it and miracles took place now by faith we are filling our water pots to the brim and we want you to restore our joy bring back to us the joy of our salvation lord help us to see you in the way that we once saw you take us back to the place where we first received you and believed you and we will praise you because of your presence and the restoration of our joy now god for those who've made decisions today we pray that you would seal them for those who were baptized earlier today we pray that you would seal those decisions that were played out in the watery grave but now we look ahead to what you have to say to us from night to night as we continue in on this journey of joy and we give you permission to have your way we love you in jesus name amen amen if you heard from god today put your hands together and let him know that you appreciate his word thank you thank you thank you jesus [Music] can we hear another amen for that wonderful sermon that we now's the time for us where we
