[Music] Tada no no no happy hatch day to you happy hatch day dear Timothy Wei doesn't like clowns oh boy Happy Hats Day to you that's me red ever since I was a kid I never really fit in no one understand me nice chatting with you there seems to be a recurring issue here anger I don't think I have an anger issue I think you got an anger issue are you aware that that robe that you're wearing isn't fooling anybody voila oh my gosh something's coming what is that thing greetings from the world of the pig these pigs are mysterious and weird am I right I don't trust them I think they're up to something your opinion is not needed PE Wing jlet that went well if you're me the pigs are stealing our eggs set sail for piggy Island you tried to tell us but we didn't listen what do we do now that yeah Jay and I we Jason and I will only come to places where people cheer us we won't go anywhere else no that's true and look at this is the first place we've ever been this is it and look at your front row of super fans yeah love it love it you guys in your 20s that's an that's an angry face right there indifference that's right that is curious and that is you've been eating a cookie recently that one's mine yeah that's your that's your little at the end yeah yeah what was he eating um brownies like a granola chocolate bar oh sure granola yeah stick it in there yeah yeah yeah there's there's there's a vitamin chocolate granola vitamin P in there somewhere so we saw the movie on Saturday and I have to say the kids loved it but it was it had so much for grown-ups as well especially the shiny reference I think this is the only animated movie with an awesome shining reference how did each of you come to do this well I did it because I love the shining and I knew that when they had a reference to it I'm in that's all that's all it takes for me good to know as a nego you read the whole script and you were like oh that's there's a shining reference I'm in um no I was a little cynical at first I was like you know there's four words that concern me about this pitch and those are the Angry Birds movie uh and I was like do do we is is there a story there is there something to go off of and the producer John Cohen uh who's the most passionate guy you'll ever meet had this amazing presentation that he put together and within a minute of him presenting it to me I was sold because it was it was so much more than just an adaptation of a mobile app it had great characters it had a great story it had a great theme and also the cast that had been assembled was tremendous Jason had already come on board bill haer um you know BL Shelton yeah Shawn pen like it was just a crazy group of people and it felt like if I was going to follow up on Frozen I wanted it to be something completely different and this felt like that opportunity um my my journey was very similar through John Cohen the producer uh and and yeah it was for me it's always like about okay I get what the movie is I was aware of the the the app Angry Birds like any of us right I but I I was one of the billions that have downloaded it but not one of the millions and millions that have you know done well at it um uh but I um when we talk through you know themes and like what the movie is about and what the movie is about within the movie then then all those once all those things were satiated all those Curiosities and then it's just a matter of just then the flattery of of of just the cast kept coming on board as people I was friends with people I was fans of people that I'd always wanted to work with and i' only get to now just my voice you know I we were actually never in the same room together but uh I've been in a movie as Shawn pen and I can say that and that's that's that's legit that's I'm not lying when I and I actually was going to ask you did you guys ever physically work together or was it all done separately no not on this movie we we met in 2007 we worked on a movie called The Rocker yeah pause for clapping nothing no no no no no no I was joking I was joking you guys have clearly seen the rock yeah yeah um but we I meant on this one because on this one no you're literally you're literally just sitting in a room with a microphone like this and you're just you know running around and acting like a bird being angry and and and you're by yourself and I had even had the luxury I guess maybe the unug is that a word of like I was there by myself cuz John and the and the directors were always on Skype because I was doing it here in New York where we live versus being in the same room with them so I literally was just alone and hearing voices in my head um both you know ones that were attached to human bodies and otherwise yeah describe each of your characters well my character's name is Chuck he's a bit of a Speed Demon uh it's almost like he his mouth can't keep up with his thoughts and he's sort of this you know this yellow bird who's been there seen it done it all and he's a little skeptical about life's Journeys but he's also fiercely loyal and he comes across his character named red and he immediately takes an interest in in him as a friend and I I don't think it's reciprocal your guy's a prankster too he is a prankster he he loves he loves to to punk people he yeah he really he uses his speed to do that yes he does there's lots of there's lot I mean there's more than just The Shining reference there's all sorts of I what's the oh there's a great do you guys know Quicksilver from X-Men yeah Quicksilver I'm not Quicksilver but there's a great Quicksilver like kind of Cameo thing homage yeah that we do in it that's pretty amazing and that's the Brilliance of Animation is these guys especially John V and like the directors they've worked on everything from like Simpsons to you know Frozen and they had a great like reference point for a lot of gags that even if the kids didn't get the adults love so it's it's really cool yeah uh my character is red he's the the Angry Bird on a uh on a island of Happy go-lucky Birds uh the anger mostly comes out through sarcasm except when pushed uh as you see at the very beginning of the movie um where you know someone insults him sort of insults his character then then then the anger gets a little bit more physical and some you know some birthday cakes get destroyed Etc uh and then yeah then then we meet as well as Danny McBride's character bomb who's my little boy's favorite by the way that's all he talks about is Bomb I think it might be because it's the easiest to say bomb bomb sounds like Mom I don't know whatever I'm not upset about it let it happen uh but then we all meet at anger management class which is like you know solitary confinement it's the worst place you can be in Bird Island uh because anger is is is not an emotion you should ever tap into as far as the birds are concerned uh so yeah so that's that's our two guys now do both of you get major respect at home from your kids for being in this movie yours is your son is probably a little too young to make the to to have respect for me yeah you're right you're right no it's all mom based you know I mean she was you know she I mean he lived inside of her for nine months I I I I defer as well you know um you what about you your kids are a little bit older my kids love you Jay they think you're great yeah my kids you know house swap my my oldest daughter grew up with with frozen so she she got it at a very young age and now she's sort of uninterested in what I do she's like why are you also this yellow fast B she actually gave me criticism she saw the movie and she cuz I say to her all the time sweetie you need to slow down you're speaking too fast and she goes why do you talk so fast and I can't argue with that I'm like cuz Daddy gets paid for it um that's how we eat that's how we eat daddy talk fast little girl eat that's the deal so my kids definitely appreciate it my 2-year-old is I think she's tickled by it she's really tickled by the whole thing yeah that's what that's what our little guy is is like that too we even um we got uh some of the Dolls uh and you know you push their wings and it has our actual voice I don't know if you've seen them yet but you know no they they didn't bother sending them to me oh they buttload we have a ton of them we have multiples yeah no I I mean I've I've thrown half away um no not not really uh but but they did send one with with my guy and it's my voice and I've never had that and so like you know Otis my little boy knows that when he hits the wing that you know it's it's me saying some line from the movie okay that is super cool it's pretty cool I always I even Olivia and I made the joke that like we're not going to let him read books with his own name in it so he knows that you know that's special when that happens and he shouldn't see movies where we're doing the voices and sure enough the very first movie he sees is me talking the whole time being a smart alec it's like oh boy I'm defeating both both rules that I would want to instill in my kid you know oh well now we have some questions from the kids but before we get to those I do have a question for you guys both of you excel at physical comedy how much of your physicality did you imbue into your characters does that question make sense yeah no you you have to actually imbue a lot of physicality into it because you can't just stand still and do in this case an animated action movie which the third Act is oh it's like a Michael Bay movie by the time third act it's the the game the two-dimensional game you're used to playing on your phone with your finger comes to life in 3d full effect and so you have to sort of take that on and embody it and so you're throwing your body around and what they do is they set up a camera and they'll record all of your movements and then a lot of times the animators will call upon those reference points to actually create that moment for the character yeah I mean I would be sore the next day my throat would be wrecked cuz yeah you're having to screen and and We've joked about it before but they at the end of usually any recording session they'll do this thing just a page of what they call efforts and it's like what you sound like when you when you're getting hit in the face what it sounds like when you fall down from a tree and so you're just spending like the last 30 minutes just only grunting and screaming and crying and flying and getting hit in the you know the giblets as we say in the movie uh and that takes its toll like on you physically I mean at least in my age at least with my you know lack of preparation and and and fitness level at this point in my life it's like it's pretty exhausting what traits of yours do these characters embody gosh what traits um my eyebrows are pretty animated I can you know like you know I can do that and also maybe sarcasm as a crutch you're not sarcastic I've never no not at all um my what traits do I share with Chuck he's definitely a lot faster than I am um you know multitasking but you're pretty quick am I pretty quick you're fast yeah I mean you fast with a thought fast with a with a joke thank you J maybe just in comparison to an animated to an animated but compared to other human beings I would I would say you but that wasn't the question she asked me what I share with Chuck yeah but sometimes you just got to take the question run with it run with it Chu would do as chuck would do you know yes now here's a question from one of our little fans all right why does Chuck talk so much and so fast I'm glad that you asked that question guys um Chuck speaks so fast because he he has so much that he wants to say and he can't get it all out unless he speaks super duper fast like this and he talks about everything and he answers them really quickly and he goes on like this and this and this and he hopes that everybody can keep up with him but nobody can now you my friend are not off the hook why is red red like literally the color like literally the color W cuz otherwise that's a pretty that's a really deep question you know like why why why is red red I mean like in between Chariot this is a hot topic of discussion after the movie why is red red well I guess red is the is is you know the color of of passion the color of of of of anger you know like when people get angry they have a tendency to turn red so I would assume that has a lot to do with it um also maybe and maybe and I think that works internationally it seems like you know you know everybody responds to Red the same way um but yeah I think it's it's because he's a passionate bird I think it's and and probably passionate than angry and yet the sarcasm is him diffusing that that passion and and then misconstrued his anger so that I would guess that's why now here's a doozy yeah why is the Mighty Eagle the only bird that can fly yeah o that's a good question maybe because he's the only bird that believes he can fly right I mean that I mean that's more of a that's seal you know or no arelly that's more of an AR Kelly answer oh we're going to steer right away from all talking about from R Kelly yeah well I mean sure extracurricular wise yeah he may not be but I believe I can fly it seems like a very good message for children I believe I can fly I mean not literally metaphorically of course none of us can fly unless we're inside of a plane or a helicopter or hangliding okay yeah or hangliding or Paris sailing I mean we could do this forever lot of ways to fly lot of ways to fly but yeah why is he why do you think I can't beat your R Kelly answer that's that pretty much sums it up right there oh it's too bad that he's sullied his own legacy with h next question do all of the birds have special powers I think all of the birds do have special I I think part of what's so cool about this movie and what my own daughter took away from it which I thought was really cool is anger a lot of times has a negative connotation about it right like when we get angry it's like that's a bad thing control your temper but when you use that anger and you turn it into passion something that you're passionate about and you defend something that you believe in that's kind of a great thing so that I think that's if it's not their power it's what empowers them and I think that that all of the birds share that common thing and even and I would even say even someone's specific skills so you look at like bomb's you know skill set of being able to blow up that's something that gets them in trouble or or I'll take me for example I used to get in trouble like at your age up until high school college for always talking in class being a smart alic making jokes doing all this stuff and now I get paid for it so in the right context shooting Fireballs out of your heiney or or exploding or doing certain things um actually in the right place in the right focused in the right way can is not a negative thing it can actually be something that that you can um you know make a lot of people uh laugh with are Chuck and red best friends now I think chuck would say yes I think chuck would say yes too I think and I think bomb would think that you know yeah bomb goes with the flow bomb bomb's the heart of the film um yeah I would say red would say it yes but after probably four or five sarcastic jokes not too dissimilar from the fellow that plays them yeah and last question before we turn over to the audience one thing that I really really really love about the movie is its anti-bullying message both of you guys as parents did that resonate with you oh absolutely even before being a parent yeah I've always I was a big fan of bullying you were Pro bullying for a little while in your life for a little bitly bully I was hugely Pro bullying we're in the same organization yeah yeah yeah so but I would say that that yeah I mean can't help it if you once you once you have someone that I can stick up for myself and in some instances when being bullied myself if in the times I've maybe felt like I deserved it but then when I see it happen to like either either uh my fiance or or or My little guy when that time happens I will be I will be I will be you will be the bomb yeah yeah yeah I will I will blow up yeah I know what about you are you de with it you know what my my kids haven't yet but I'm sort of prepared for it there was one instance where like a couple of 10-year-olds were being really rude when my daughter was like four and I got so inappropriately angry with like get away from her leave her alone she's a child you know and the kids were like I'm 10 uh so but I oh now you're 10 oh now you're 10 you're talking like a 35-year-old back there weren't you nasty little boy um so yes I'm I'm a fierce advocate of kindness and politeness to all and I'm very proud of a message that delivers that that's amazing and now for our audience thank you for being here uhse I would like to know what's your favorite real life bird and why oh my favorite real life bird um I mean I always like a I always like a parrot you know something that can talk I always it's hilarious to me uh we we we got to do a uh some press in Hawaii and at the hotel we were staying at there was a bird there that would just you know it's say h I was like I love that I I also love par African grays are amazing they like they have like a a language of like they can like repeat like 1500 words or something crazy really get an African gray J there there was an amazing they they live to be like a hundred true great investment the world's greatest Bird yeah it's really great it's the new gold African CR um is it g re y or a y that's moving on um I would say a flamingo I'm from South Florida so I I kind of grew up with them and I'm always fascinated that they can go from Gray to like pink and sleep on one leg like that's a the opposite of humans we go from pink to gray that's right that's right yeah that's true never thought of it like that J next question please hello gentlemen it's good especially have you guys here so what what was your favorite alltime cartoon movies or shows and would you consider the uh with the Angry Birds which would it be a crossover of your favorite TV show or cartoon movie gcha yeah I mean I loved and it's been really fun to get to watch him again with with uh our little boy but you know Bugs Bunny you know and and The Bugs Bunnies that I grew up with I know there's a whole new new genre of them but when I watched those old ones they they were so um you know uh I just love those to Pieces um I my favorite animated movie growing up was Aladdin I loved it that good and Beauty and the Beast yeah which I just got to do a live version of so that was like a dream come true and in terms of TV there was a great show called Animaniacs oh yeah yeah oh it was so good that was great so yeah I mean and and it feels like our movie is in homage to that the Looney Tunes Animaniacs like that kind of crazy unpredictable energy yeah where there's like a joke a joke and then a joke you know like that's like sort of you know it it it it keeps moving but there's always like a little bit of a button of a payoff even Beyond where the joke was like there you know if a guy falls down then he's also going to get hit in the head with a lunch bucket or something too like it's not just not just one you know Pratt fall and then fall off a cliff and then fall off a cliff exactly and here's our last question hi guys thanks for being here U First Josh I can't get Elder Cunningham's voice out of my head right now because you're sitting right there well it is my voice so that's why that's like all I'm thinking about right now but um if you could take any animated film TV show that was your favorite growing up or even now and if they brought it to Broadway what would you like to see and what part would you want to play wow uh any animated movie or TV show it would be kind of great I mean it's going back to the what I said to the fellow before but that you remember that you know um the what's Opera Doc you know Kill the Wabbit if they did like at Lincoln Center like a full-on Bugs Bunny Opera of you know what's Opera Doc with you know with it's actually kind of a brilliant idea would be amazing if they wrote more song Broadway investors in the audience right cuz we have any of you guys no no money in Broadway yet no none of you invested in Hamilton either yeah yep oh well yeah missed that boat yeah y um I don't know maybe Frozen Olaf feels like a role I could play on do you think you you think we have that in you I don't know I don't know if I can reach that note every night eight shows a week it is happening is it happening yes probably I mean it makes sense um when something makes half a billion dollars they go hey like like this movie they're like hey why don't we make something cut to Jason and I doing the Angry Birds Musical 3 years from now Angry we're angry we're so angry and we can't stop uh it's going to be great come see us and meanwhile the movie opens on Friday thank you so much for being here you guys thanks for having [Music]
