Lamar Jackson is likely going to win the MVP award this evening and once he raises that trophy just remember one thing and one thing only Josh Allen was robbed so now to start this analysis I want to bring to you the acronym mvy P these three little letters have been subject to debate across the NFL world for quite some time what does an MVP mean does this mean that this is the best player on the best team or is this truly just the best player in the league regardless of how his team performs so what context is important when you are looking at the most valuable player now in order to understand this I want to focus on one letter and one letter only and that just so happens to be the V now V of course meaning valuable the root word of course being value now when I personally look at the word value and so another word normally pops into my head which I think makes a lot of sense when you're comparing the two value equals quantity because when somebody is receiving more many would say that they are receiving the most value so with the NFL MVP player that is giving their team the most 110% means that they are the most valuable is now on pointing this out for a number of reasons especially as we pull up Josh Allen's stats as you can see Josh Allen threw for 4,36 yards which is nice and so but at the end of the day these passing yards don't necessarily provide value we could be discussing a lot of garbage time we could be discussing um a lot of drives that died in the Red Zone but the two numbers that stand out to me the most 29 passing touchdowns and 15 rushing touchdowns totaling for a sum of 44 overall touchdowns Now 44 touchdowns is certainly impressive but when you break it down it also suggests that Josh Allen scored 246 points by himself for the Buffalo Bills go going into it the reason that I'm continuously shoving this in your face is because the term value can only mean quantity who can give you the most and the only important statistic that should be measured when discussing a Most Valuable Player needs to be touchdowns oh sure some people are like Dan you know what that's it's not so black and white there's also clutch performances there's fourth quarter comebacks there's a lot that goes into this MVP and see normally I would have agree with you I certainly would agree with you but when there is such a significant Gap from not only the other players that are considered to be an MVP candidate this year but also from first and second place alone that's when that argument tends to die as you can see Josh Allen is sitting at 44 total touchdowns and next to him is Dak Prescott and so who scored a total of six less than him on top of that you have a Jaylen Herz you have Jordan of you have Brock pie so the fifth person in this conversation that is a part of the MVP conversation is fifth on the overall list and Josh Allen has a total of and so 11 more overall touchdowns than this guy and the MVP favorite as you can see with Lamar Jackson is only sitting at 29 so if we're talking about quantity and value the most value you can provide your team is scoring and there's absolutely zero debate that Josh Allen is not the best scoring quarterback in the league especially in 2023 and don't get me wrong I'm sure that there's several of you who have already pointed out Josh Allen's turnovers and I can admit it hands down Josh Allen ended up throwing 18 overall interceptions but there's a couple of things cuz context here is very important so right here I have a chart created by football insights on X I certainly recommend giving them a follow some of uh the best data analytics when it comes into the overall league and so this Ray here is demonstrating charted turnover worthy throw and actual interception percentages essentially look at it this way if any quarterback is above this line that means that the vast majority of their interceptions were bad luck and I hate using the term bad luck but bear with me here so off to the left right here as you see in ascending order you see the interception percentage and so at the bottom you see turnover worthy plays where Josh Allen is represented by the Buffalo Bills logo you can see and so you can see that he is well behind turnover worthy throws in fact this guy was bottom five in the league for overall turnover worthy throws now some of you might be a bit confused but from the difference of what is a turnover worthy throw and what is an actual interception now with turnover worthy plays think of situations where your quarter back drops back throws an absolute dime right to a receiver it bounces off of their hands and it lands right in the lap of the opposing team's DB or also think of a time where your quarterback simply just tosses the ball and it's tipped at the line of scrimmage it's an air ball and then a linebacker ends up taking it to the house for a pick six those right there are not considered to be turnover worthy plays but they are considered to be an interception so when it comes back to this graph right over here you can see that Josh Allen is perhaps the best quarterback in the league when it comes into interception versus turnover worthy throws he does not put the ball In Harm's Way just a lot of very terrible circumstances now some of you might even try and stretch and say hey man you know that's still doesn't matter he's still throwing these picks he's still hurting his team well based on off of a lot of research conducted by several beat reporters several analytical sites I have something to show you as well and so Gian shout out to Sal Morana from the Democrat and Chronicle for putting this together saying that in his final analysis the opposition scored points after only 10 of his 18 picks of those four setup easy scores for the opposition path bucks Broncos Eagles six presented situations where the bills defense didn't hold up and bail out Allen and the other eight resulted in no points off turnovers so when it comes down into Josh Allen's interceptions how much did it truly hurt his team now don't get me wrong I was actually in New Jersey for week one witnessing that absolute travesty of a game where Josh Allen ended up throwing three interceptions to the exact same player and you would be able to see me all over social media trashing this quarterback blaming him for the loss going into it I've done that several times and so I'm not too good to blame my favorite quarterback when he has a bad game but when I'm sitting here watching Josh Allen play throughout the remainder of the season and I see a lot of these tit balls at the line of scrimmage I see a lot of beautiful passes bobbled by Gabe Davis Stefon Diggs or maybe even our rookie Dalton King Cade or Dawson Knox you name it that to me hardly says that he is hurting this team and sometimes I see Josh Allen in a third and long situation it's third and 18 so rather than doing a little meaningless checkdown he drops back and he takes a shot into the end zone which essentially would be a glorified punt nine times out of 10 a way better position than punting the ball would have provided for the team by itself now whether or not you agree with that mentality or not you have to think the Buffalo Bills had a top five defense this year so in my opinion I think that Josh Allen is being Reckless just to be Reckless and so I sincerely believe that he's more prone to take risks than he knows this in the back of his head due to the fact that his offense was top three in EPA all year being able to march down the field with ease and his defense nine times out of 10 proved that he could make a stop so at the end of the day Josh Allen is the true MVP of 2023 congratulations to Lamar Jackson this is not a diss on Lamar Jackson he's a great quarterback he's one of my personal favorites but when it comes down into it the most valuable player should be what player brings the most to their team and by the most you have to quantify it and the only way you can quantify it is with points so sound off in the comments let me know your thoughts and make sure you like And subscribe I'll see you tomorrow deuces
