everybody top of the morning afternoon evening whatever the time zone is quick disclosure before we begin today's video I'm testing of this new lavalier microphone that I recently purchased just to see if I can slowly start getting away from you know dragging an external mic all over the place just to get optimal sound and you can just notice it right above the top of my shirt there Oh see if I can find a better place to hide it normally I'm like you know I've seen the microphone on a camera but you know there's we're just testing things out here so we're gonna see how this stacks up if it ends up not working then I'll just go back to square one and see what we can do from there that said I am open to feedback if I got any audio nuts there that you know can help me out on how to like get the most out of a lavalier setup I'm all yours leave a comment in the comment below or I'll leave something on my Twitter page at some call me John I'm always listening there and all with the show [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's near the turn of the millennium anticipation for the next generation was slowly building ground with the Sega Dreamcast being released internationally and the PlayStation 2 just over the horizon Capcom was already thinking of their next big endeavor that title being Code Veronica our subject for next time but seeing as they didn't want fans to wait too long for the next game and never one to miss the opportunity to make some fast cash now given their history re-releases and directors cuts they went and transformed what was originally supposed to be a spin-off title into the next main line entry in the series to keep appetite satiated as such this is resident evil 3 nemesis released in 1999 shouldn t Mikami once again returns as producer for this title with newcomer kaze hero yama taking directing duties after Hideki Kamiya who wouldn't return to the series in any capacity until Resident Evil 0 on the gang queue but even then I think his input and that was relatively minor compared to his director duties and Resident Evil 2 the man was probably already thinking about Dante and his lush red coat despite the decision to fast-track the sequel Capcom spared no expense in marketing this game just as much if not more so than Resident Evil 2 over 20 million dollars was spent on advertisements though this budget was also shared with their newly released title at the time Dino Crisis another title by Shinji Mikami which you can think of as Resident Evil but with Dinosaurs Jurassic Park essentially considering how well Resident Evil to perform they likely had the extra moolah so the heavy marketing push makes sense also considering that they are working on two major titles simultaneously they needed all the money they could muster a good track record or not that in mind resident evil 3 nemesis wouldn't do as well as its predecessor but over three and a half million copies shipped is certainly nothing to scoff at at the same time until this video I've only played this game one other time and that was way back in 2005 back when I was you know marathoning all the classic Resident Evil games and I haven't got it on the Dreamcast because in a manner of speaking it was the only version I could afford at the time I couldn't find a copy on the PlayStation had even worse luck with the Gamecube rerelease so I wouldn't got it on the Dreamcast by burning it into a cd-rom yeah the mid 2000s I was big on burning games for my Dreamcast because [ __ ] was so easy to do it's what ended up killing the console for the record I made copies of Sonic Adventure Marvel vs. Capcom Ikaruga I ended up losing most of them as years passed but I still have my burnt copy at King of Fighters 99 now obviously if you have the means to get yourself an official copy of the game within reasonability I'm talking not spending 3 grand on like a factory so minty-fresh version of it you should always try to at least you know go for it officially but nowadays [ __ ] nobody's making money off physical Dreamcast releases anymore so I don't really see the harm in it anyway I'm gonna be playing my perfectly legal and digital PlayStation version for this video for the sake of consistency it is pretty refreshing that I don't have to spend much time on releases with bonus content this go around at least not yet we got the rebate coming out in a couple of months after all and that should be pretty exciting future additions such as the Dreamcast and PC versions just add two extra costumes and that said nothing more to it than that there's a lot of costumes for Joe in this game though but most so far for any individual character but we never get to wear this snazzy outfit and her epilogue that is a damn fine outfit criminal we don't get to wear in-game but our setting once again is inside the doomed Raccoon City but this time our protagonist is the returning Jill Valentine from the first game life after the incident at the arkla mansion has been hard for our former stars officer she knows the umbrella corporation is up to no good but she can't convince any higher-ups with government officials otherwise because of the lack of evidence that all went kablooey and now you know the city has been infected by that T virus where doesn't evil 3 a set a day before the events of the second game and a day after Chronicle and Jill's perspective as she attempts to escape the infested streets of Raccoon City this opening is a little weird though firstly the dialogue is hokey as fog Jill's inner monologue and sounds straight out of a bad soap opera she also comes across a little judgmental to me she has every right to be angry and scared given what she went through in the first game sure but I don't know placing blame on the city's populace for lacking the courage to stand up to the evil pharmaceutical company with the police in corporations ok I get that they are in on it for the most part but the civilians who are likely none the wiser too umbrellas secret experiments how would they know what umbrella is really up to and without the lack of evidence can you really blame them for not believing in accusations they might consider baseless just comes across as sloppy but I can't tell if that's a character quirk I don't like about Jill or just sloppy writing in general well it's not entirely a big deal anyway but yeah the whole game centers on Jill making her escape avoiding all matters of undead monstrosity like zombies and bio-organic weapons eventually Jill encounters this dude named Carlos a mercenary working for the Umbrella biohazard countermeasures service focusing on rescuing civilians and situations like this to which I say ha there isn't a single goddamn person in this game that gets rescued besides yourself and Carlos every civilian you come across ends up being zombie food at some point later but to be fair this is because one of the soldiers of the squad Nikolai is secretly sabotaging the operation making sure no one can escape in order to collect combat data for umbrella he's one of the more forgettable villains in the series so far though generic motives generic dialogue and he's immediately overshadowed by the namesake villain of the whole game nemesis who keep in mind can only say one word yes nemesis a prototype tyrant programmed to hunt down members of stars for they're all witnesses to umbrellas experiments back at the mansion and umbrella wants them gone he's hell-bent for leather got an impressive set of pearly whites and comes equipped with a [ __ ] rocket launcher and combat tentacles much too branch discharging I'm sorry Brad but you're a helicopter pilot as will see us we continue along this marathon this series has a raging stiffy for killing helicopter pilots being the last remaining member of stars in the city because Chris had the common sense to book as a European vacation beforehand Jill is unfortunately in the nemesis line of sight throughout the whole game he is mr. X on crack and maybe 3 different types of steroids he can chase you through multiple rooms not giving a flying [ __ ] about loading doors he could snipe you from a distance with that rocket launcher of his he will dash after your ass if you attempt to run away this dude is on a whole different level to anything we've faced so far you know before the mr. X redoing Resident Evil 2 remake this was the closest thing we had to face in a [ __ ] terminator he can't be bargained with he can't be reasoned with it doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear and it absolutely will not stop ever until you are dead or until I don't know you push it off a bridge nemesis is a terrifying game mechanic though I'm not kidding he chases you through the whole game signified by sinister music one word vocabulary and he can pop in your screen on a moment's notice [Music] nope you can try your luck and take him down but you're kind of encouraged to run away from the thing at all costs because yeah man this [ __ ] was tough he takes God knows how many handgun bullets shotgun rounds grenade launcher blast just to temporarily put him down you do get some pretty sweet rewards if you manage to do so though you know to make you run through a little easier like parts for better weapons or an abundance of health packs but unless this is like your third or fourth playthrough you're better off just running away it's not worth spending all that ammo and health if you're just gonna barely scrape by not that Jill is incapable mind you because she's gotten a few upgrades that could be damn helpful like Resident Evil 2 ammo is plentiful if you got a knack for searching everywhere and this game even has some explosive barrels and dynamite you can shoot blowing everything close by to smithereens they even give you a separate button to aim at those objects specifically and I really appreciate that given how the camera angles can obscure objects at times gunpowder is also brought in for the first time here with this mixing tool at your disposal you can combine these vials of powder to make extra ammo for your handgun your shotgun your magnum or grenade launcher and with proper experimentation and careful studying of the mixing chart the amount of ammo you can make is absurd it can take some time to make sure you're making the proper combinations but the reward is well worth it combine some gunpowder ace with gunpowder base and make some gunpowder seeds and use the mixing tool to create a surplus of Magnum rounds or combine them with regular grenade rounds to make the new freeze rounds which are the best thing to use against nemesis easily they slowed him down big time and do tons of damage making him easier to manage gun powders can be a little cumbersome mainly because the game wants to give you two to four bottles at once and they don't stack they're all considered separate items so item management can be problematic if you need the powders right this instant gel the very least has eight inventory slots by default and that's upgraded to ten not too long in the adventure so you shouldn't find yourself making unneeded trips to item boxes too often for the first time in the series you can now turn 180 degrees in an instant and oh my god I missed this so much toughest thing to deal with going back to the first two games that clumsy as hell rotisserie chicken turning you're still dealing with tank controls in pre-rendered camera and as usual yeah but now you have an easier time getting the hell away from [ __ ] in a moment's notice but in this game Joe's also straight-up capable of dodging attacks and against zombies you can shove them away to saving yourself from a nasty bite and I wish I wish I was more consistent with this because these are awesome techniques they can save your ass in a pinch against nemesis attacks when those brain suckers try grabbing you when those [ __ ] hunters try swiping your head off you dodge behind them you put a bullet in their back super gratifying feels amazing to pull off but only when I manage to because I swear man it just happens when it wants to the game says you have to press the aim button as the enemy attacks or is it press the action button while you're aiming as the enemy attacks I'm a little confused on the wording but either way I'm pumping things full of lead and if I happen to dodge it I happen to dodge it I didn't become overly reliant on it which is how I think they want you to treat it otherwise what's the point of enemies if you could just easily dodge everything but escaping can be harder than it sounds because this game is suffocating in narrow corridors and claustrophobic design in general unlike last time resident evil 3 has you navigating through the dilapidated city itself and it is crammed with barricades debris broken vehicles and all other means of blockage it is amazing in terms of setting the mood so really rubbin how bad things have gotten for the city in just a short amount of time but it is one of the worst things about the opening hours gameplay wise this was one of the things I remember actively hating back in 2005 even though you have access to a map eventually and that does a great job at helping you navigate it's like you're running in a city that's nothing but [ __ ] alleyways difficult to traverse incredibly easy to lose your placing how forgettable locales can be with the pre-rendered camera angles not doing any favors things get better when you make it to the church and wait at the park area and the factory but the city I'm glad I get snoot at the end OUP's of spoilers Resident Evil 3 is one of the shorter games so far there's only one scenario and it's gel you do get to play as Carlos in a brief stint looking for a cure for Joe watch he momentarily gets infected by the virus thanks to nemesis but this section is over before you know it Carlos is one of the better side characters to control anyway his assault rifles better than what ADA rocked in re 2 and the less I say about Chery sections the better there's also something inherently funny with dealing with a bunch of poisonous snakes with an assault rifle if you thought resident evil two's lesser emphasis on puzzles is disappointing resident evil 3 brings plenty of them back but not an overbearing sense I think they managed to achieve a good balance and action and puzzle solving this go-around in fact I think these are some of the best puzzles in the classic lineup so far yeah even that water treatment puzzles that drive some people nuts leaves don't make me scratch my head in frustration or bewilderment and don't require me to have a college degree in philosophy they're just right in terms of difficulty some are more obnoxious than others but there's nothing you can't eventually solve on your own if their critical thinking or brute force and through that son of a [ __ ] short length or not this game has plenty for you to do in the time given and not every playthrough will be the same so this game throws a dynamic curveball on certain things the kind of items you might find in certain places the types of enemies you might encounter when nemesis might show up solutions to certain puzzles these kind of things can be randomized in one session this area in the park could be full of hunters but say you die and reload next time it could be just a shitload of zombies instead sometimes those herbs you found in one floor of this hospital to be relocated to the floor above leaving you thinking how you have to change your strategies accordingly this was likely done for the sake of spicing things up and adding replay value seeing as you only have one character to play as on occasion you're suddenly forced to make a split-second decision most of them are of the same flavor do you try and make it get away or do you attempt to stand your ground and deal with the issue directly I don't think there's ever a point where one decision can outright kill you but some can slightly affect how the next area is handled again though that's something to add to replay value and keep you revisiting maybe one playthrough you decide to blow up nemesis in the kitchen and collect the spoils and in the other maybe you stay in the power plant and fry all those zombies with an electrical currents that are running away for my experience these along with the randomized items and enemies didn't have that much of an impact on how I approach things but that also could be because I got lucky I couldn't tell you like I don't know if getting these gun powders in this room was a stroke of good luck or that getting the Magnum in this area is bad I don't know what all gets shuffled or run I just know it's a thing that happens and adapting to the situation is key to making the most out of it but unless you plan on playing this multiple times in a row you might not even notice it that much you know despite a handful of times where I got my head lopped off because of a hunter or one nemesis went and did his nemesis thing I did enjoy myself I still think my favorite classic game was Resident Evil 2 for having a more stream focus and design and a better soundtrack to boot I couldn't remember much music here except for when you briefly visit the police station but that's only because it uses the same music as wasn't evil - so yeah that doesn't really count I feel Resident Evil 2 had more rhyme and reason to how we progress which I think this game sort of fumbles on the game is clearly putting more emphasis on like the chaotic nature of the situation the things that are just out of our control and thematically that's good but in game it could be messy again that opening in Raccoon City is just awful for me but nevertheless resident evil 3 manages to create a damn good balance of survival horror action and puzzle solving that gives a series its identity nemesis is a great villain true he's kind of like the only boss he faced in the whole game the other being this giant warm we fight underground and and I think that's about it you don't even have to fight Nikola if you made certain choices along the way it's very unusual but nemesis more than makes up for it he's a great consistent threat with a shitload of presence and I love that in a villain with time and consideration the gunpowder's make for an awesome reward for surviving to the latest challenge and though a little herky jerk that dodging mechanics can make what were previously frustrating as [ __ ] encounters into fights that are infinitely more manageable inventory is not bad at all given the amount of slots you eventually get weapons can be good fun - you seriously freeze rounds against nemesis are wonderful and clearing the path with environmental hazards like those explosive barrels can be very satisfying I likely won't go back to this anytime soon but I'm happy to see that the game was better than I remembered it being I'm very much looking forward to seeing how the remake handles this and maybe we get some more emphasis on Carlos I don't think we've got enough time with him last time to flesh them out so I'd like the remake to fix that we can probably flesh out the other members of the countermeasure squad - oh I don't just unceremoniously killed off-screen the only one thing ural impact was Macau saves your ass against nemesis and the trolley before going out in a blaze of glory I'd like more of him please also let's go ahead and make Nikolai less generic I'd like that but above all else I want to see how nemesis is used to make an already intense creation into something truly terrifying what they did with mr. X was mesmerizing so with nemesis that that should be something else but as I said the staff were were a Capcom was working on two games around this and next up we're gonna see that next big project in action and that's Resident Evil Code Veronica doesn't have a number in its name but rest assured it is a mainline Resident Evil game with one we'll see for ourselves next time thank you all for watching have yourselves a fantastic night and take care I think one of the reasons why I don't really often use this shot of the shelves and the consoles and the figures is that you know with the light shirt and proper lighting you can clearly see like the shadow of the [ __ ] tit right here it's like I know I gotta lose weight you don't have to keep reminding me of that anyway you know and card check my other stuff there thanks for watching
