terrific terrific audience we've got here at the magic Palace and ladies and gentlemen we happen to have a terrific entertainer for you right now he's going to do some close-up magic for you and believe me he's terrific at it would you please welcome from Hollywood mr. John Thompson thank you I have it my sides Chris is it Christina Christine and March they're from the audience and we just expedited things by having them up here quickly I'm gonna perform a very old piece of classical magic there are some sugar cubes would you take two and would you also reach across and take two we'll put the rest back inside here you have your two you have your two I'll put this away may I have these that's one that's two three and four watch very closely this was called chinco Chinese in origin and I will do it very slowly in the only magic words I will say is a watch carefully a change sometimes it doesn't always start off correctly a you have to get them going for a second here we go Gingka I'll do it once again watch it gets harder because you pay more and more existence it's called the cups and balls I'm just showing you the cups in a second I will add the balls the trick has been done with goblets paper cups dixie cups chinese tea cups these happen to be copies or replicas of 17th century drinking goblets would you look inside there is there anything in there say no good is there anything in there say no what kind of show the camera as well and also this one is there anything in there now they used to judge a magician's skill by how well he did this and I see I've been a lot of trouble I forgot to close the trapdoors you probably think I'm kidding but if I don't Christine you see what happens one falls right through the other so let me tighten them up a little bit like so and I'll tighten this one up see then they won't fall through one inches deeper on the inside than it does on the outside of course I never argue because that's how the trick is done now along with this you need crochet covered balls now because we have three cups we will use three crochet covered balls one two three there have been many great great cup and ball workers and I'm going to deal with only those in the 20th century probably the finest one died in 1946 his name was max malini max malini was a Russian Jew short fat squat wore courtly dress velvet frock coats blossomy shirts and vests brocade vests performed before all the crowned heads of Europe had this very deep Russian Jewish accent and I will try and give you an example of what max Max's work was like by name is possible any letters gentlemen I will do a very good trick for you what is darling that was max malini there is another gentleman who used some patties one of these phases is called a pass I will do another pass for you this is Jo spaz 17th century magician but it was a phase a dear friend of mine Charles Earl Miller Charlie Miller is a little heavyset looks like this hi Charlie Miller hi and Charlie doesn't use the cups at all what Charlie does is he takes them and he puts them out of play altogether he puts one here in his back pocket you see then what he does is if he's taking one away go take a second one away you see that will only leave one over here you see keep your eye on it watch very did you see this one come back over here I cheat but only a little bit so you must watch closely when I put it back over here you're watching me fumble with my pocket reality it jumps from over there to over here you see how many are over here do you recall Marge tough question no no there's there's one there you'll have to take my word on it watch was there one there a second ago there sometimes is three but it really doesn't matter one two three that's the way Charlie Miller there's one other gentleman and his name was dr. Jacob daily and dr. Jacob daily had a most unusual he would take all the balls now he could do this by the way with the balls on top or with him underneath when he did it with him on top he put all three in his pocket whatever one you touch they will appear underneath I guarantee it with a wand oh it's alright no try another one I'll give you a hint no it really doesn't matter you see this is the first one you touched was it see I could make it appear underneath there it's really no problem whatsoever gets a little bigger you see but Jacob daily when he did this had a wonderful thing you didn't believe they were trapdoors then it goes right on through the dark after I'll do it once again look at that isn't that the damnedest thing you've ever seen people say how can you do that I said simply did she you know how do you know how this is done simple you use four of these things the only what happens each and every time thank you very [Applause]
