father we thank you for your word we do lift up lord our nation is uh not only here but around the world these issues gender issues and other things are causing a lot of people angst trouble lord you created us for fellowship with you you created us lord for a relationship with the god of heaven and earth we enter into it when we believe you are the way the truth and the life no man can come to the father but through you when we put our faith in jesus christ as our lord and our savior and we trust you we trust your word lord clarity begins to come into our lives and as we allow god's word to work in our lives and we take the time to read it and to meditate on it as psalm 1 tells us to we find our minds become renewed as we renew our minds we begin to understand things as you've designed them and you've created them and your word tells us you've given us all things to richly enjoy the words actually in your bible enjoy you've desired to give to every man and woman an abundant life but it will only be found in the author of life himself jesus christ and so lord how i pray for anyone tonight listening or tuning in maybe for the first time as we come into the prayer closet of jesus himself may they sense the heart of god for them and for the world around them and perhaps lord in hearing your heart in prayer may they surrender theirs to you so thank you for this time in your word and we ask you to richly pour out through the spirit of god through the word of god to the people of god tonight in jesus name amen well where were we his disciples verse 29 chapter 16 said unto lo behold now thou speakest plainly and speaketh no proverb if you don't know what it's talking about go review now are we sure that thou knowest all things and need us not that any man ask thee by this we believe that thou camest forth from god by george they got it jesus answered them do you now believe behold the hour cometh yea now is come that ye shall be scattered every man to his own and shall leave me alone yet i am not alone because the father is with me these things have i spoken unto you that in me you might have peace if you want to have peace you will find it in the faith in jesus christ in him in me you might have peace in the world ye shall have tribulation flips this is the word boy do we but be of good cheer this is encouraging i have overcome the world and if we're in christ romans tells us we're overcomers with him these words spake jesus and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said wait a second he didn't say wait a second but wait a second how many have read their bible their new testament in particular thank you lou appreciate it good wonderful wonderful rapturous now lord would you not be okay with that you know i mean okay so they had a good opening season game but i'm okay if i missed the rest of it i didn't see that game either i'm just but anyway never mind how many have read your bible and you see where it says jesus prayed all night how many read your bible and said a great while before dawn he would get up and go pray how many have read your bible and you saw that as jesus finished at praying luke talks about it matthew gives us the prayer they said teach us to pray as john taught his disciples to pray which gave us what i talked about last week the model prayer of our father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name you know and oh no thy kingdom come they will be done on earth and we went through it last week the quote model prayer and we said it was a model prayer because he said forgive us our debts in matthew's gospel and luke's each it's forgive us our martial our sins did jesus have any sin no if he has sin he can't pay for you and for me he has to be the sinless son of god so he can take our place bearing our sins and then the wrath they deserve so it is a model of prayer for god's people that they might learn how to seek after god he is your father in heaven he loves you his kingdom will come his will will be done on earth we do ask for forgiveness as we come before him we should expect him to provide for us because he said he would we should expect to be able to forgive others if we've learned and understood his forgiveness of us we should ask him to keep us from temptation and deliver some evil he desires to do it we've got to make sure we cooperate when he convicts and boy oh boy his is the kingdom of power and the glory forever and ever and i can't wait to sit there and see him face to face and say amen that was the model of prayer but aside from that model prayers we go through our four gospels we really don't get to hear what he prays until tonight and in chapter 17 what we have is we have the lord himself praying to the father number one for his own ministry two for his disciples and then three for ultimately the church that would come from those disciples faithfully sharing the gospel and we get on a roll after we have chapter 17 because then eventually we get into the garden of gethsemane as they work their way across the brook kidron tonight and there once again in the other three gospels we get a second inner sort of inner picture of the prayer life of jesus himself as he's there and he gets a little bit away from peter james and john and he falls and tells us in one account on his face before the lord and he says father if you be willing so tonight we get to hear how the lord prays at least here at the end of his earthly ministry just before his betrayal his capture his interrogations before the chief priests and then before the sanhedrin and then the pilot and then the herod and then back to pilate and hopefully you know the rest of the account it tells us that he ever lives to make intercession for us so we get a little snapshot tonight of these things these words spake jesus chapters 13 14 15 16 that we've been through these dialogues in the upper room that john felt so led by the holy spirit to record because we didn't have them the other three gospels these words spake jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven and said father who's he talking to turn to john 8. john 8. see this book of john this gospel of john has been front loading for us these things and now we watch them all unfold in john chapter 8 verse 58 jesus answered and said if i honor myself my honor is nothing it is my father that honoreth me of whom ye say that he is your god who is he praying to god the father yahweh jehovah god himself father whom you say is your god the god of israel father back to our text the hour is come that we've been hearing throughout this gospel his hour had not yet come son they've run out of wine at the wedding woman what have i to do with you my hour has not yet come it's not time yet to be presented to the nation well now finally his hour has come and glorify thy son who could say that god of israel father the hour has come glorify thy son only god should receive glory so if he wants him to glorify his son who does he have to be god himself in human flesh that thy son also may glorify thee as thou has given him power the word is exousia and the greek authority thou has given him power over all flesh authority over all flesh and the day will come we learned in john's gospel where the dead will hear his voice and all the dead will be raised those who have done well to everlasting life those who have not to damnation he warned us we talked about that i believe back in chapter 5 as thou has given him authority over all flesh that he should give eternal life to as many note verse 2 that he should give eternal life to as many as thou has given him turn to john 6 44. here we go again with this book unfolding itself throughout itself john 6 44. jesus therefore answered and said unto the murmur not among yourselves verse 44 chapter 6 no man can come to me except the father which hath sent me draw him so who started your relationship with god he did some of you took longer than others for the knocking to get through no man can come to me except the father which hath sent me draw him and i will raise him up at the last day now tie that with here in verse 2 as thou has given him power over all flesh that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given what does this mean turn to first peter 1. what does this mean you're going to get into theology i'm going to fall asleep no you won't turn to first peter 1. peter in case you haven't heard of him verse one an apostle of jesus christ to the strangers foreigners scattered throughout pontus galatia cappadocia asia bithynia verse two here we go elect that is eclectos to be chosen chosen according to the foreknowledge that's prognosis or foreknowledge for knowing of elect chosen according to the foreknowledge of god the father through sanctification of the spirit when you trust in christ he gives you the holy spirit unto obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of jesus christ grace be multiplied and peace grace unto you and peace be multiplied gee we could go on talk about how it was from before the foundation of the world but wait a second wait a second so you're saying god has chosen people to salvation no actually jesus has said here as many as thou has given him and he told us you didn't call you didn't first love me i first loved you and i drew you to myself or you've not chosen me i've chosen you in john 15 16. he told us he chose us and then we were told back in john 6 that you can't come to unless the father draws him that's called election oh here we go look the bible tells us god's elected people to salvation well now you sound like a calvinist no i'm reading my bible now would you like balance how many want balance how many of us want to go one with a couple of you want balance how many just want to be on the far far right or far left of theology john three john three uh the church has spent 500 years arguing this we're going to just take two verses just easier john 3 verse 16. for god so loved what cosmos doesn't say electos cosmos cosmos as in world which we also give the word cosmetology because ladies when you use cosmetology you put your world in order that's what it means cosmos god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that what's it say hmm whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life okay praise god flip over to romans 10 for a minute romans 10 romans is an interesting book because it talks again about the election of god the sovereignty of god but in romans 10 it also balances it out with this what does it say verse 8 the word is nigh even in thy mouth and in thy heart that is the word of faith which we preach that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the lord jesus and believe in thine heart that god hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved what a wonderful promise and i hope you have done that for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and that's the huge battle to go past what your head knows to finally let your heart make the decision a lot of people have a head knowledge not sadly a lot of people have a heart knowledge and it's when you surrender your life and open your heart to jesus christ and he becomes your savior instead of a head knowledge of the savior that's when your life changes and for some people that means you've got to reach past your religion and finally lay hold of faith so for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation verse 11 for the scriptures saith gee and he's been talking about election in this book whosoever believeth on him that means it's open to what how many said everybody how many are lost already whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed for there is no difference between the jew and the greek for the same lord overall is rich unto all that call upon him for whosoever shall call upon the name of the lord what's the promise shall be saved does it say you have to clean up your life first no does it say you have to attend church for three years no does it say you have to give money aha no it simply says if you will acknowledge from your heart that he is the savior you confess with your mouth that he is your savior you will be saved and it is open to whomsoever now back to our chapter as thou has given him power over all flesh that he should give eternal life unto as many as thou hast given him god is omniscient he tells us in his word which means he knows everything how many under everybody okay with that that's how he knows the end from the beginning that's why he uses prophecy so we know that we have a book unlike any other book in the world that tells us the end from the beginning throughout history not just all one period so that we can know this is the true and living god he has to know who will be saved and who will we not be saved or you deny his attribute but we don't god has to know and god has chosen people to salvation yet salvation is open to whomsoever will come well i don't like that that doesn't fit tidy in a box so the only thing good for tidy box is cat litter you want tidy in a box yeah this is the wrong place to come because you've got man's free will crossing the sovereignty of god god knows that men will make a decision one way or the other he knows but man is the one making the decision yet god knows who we'll pick well then it's conditional don't call it that's unconditional don't go the fact is he has to know yet you have to decide that's biblical that's the balance so you preach the gospel only people you like right no you preach the gospel to everybody he has to draw you if you're tuning in or you're listening on the radio you know you're being called if you don't know christ he's drawing you he's always known who you are he's waiting for you to catch up to who he is but if you repent and turn and ask him his forgiveness and make him your savior he'll change you as thou has given him power over all flesh this is god the son praying to god the father he has power over all flesh that he should give eternal life to as many as thou has given him yet they must come whomsoever of themselves so this is good i have to tell you a true story you know you learn more by failing than you do by succeeding yes how many know that so long ago i'm i'm in a church in north carolina after being in russia and we're doing some street outreach and everything and all that and the guy came up just an old brother and the lord saint you know i'm pretty new there at that point and you know a guy from the south and we're talking he said so what is eternal life and you know i you've had too many bible classes well it's it's everlasting life and it's it's because you put your trust in christ and because he's died and risen so i'm like going for the long answer you know and he goes no no no it's john 17 3. like what's wrong with you so let's read john 17 3. i've never forgotten it since then this is life eternal what is it that they may know genosko to know closely that they may know thee the only a latino's true god only manos true god the only true god and jesus christ whom thou has sent why was jesus christ sent to pay for the sins of the world to die and rise again so that god could be just and dismissing your case and yet himself taking on human flesh be the justifier of those who believe that's why he is the way the truth and the life it's through his atoning work that god can dismiss your case and that's why you must come to him through the atoning work of his son so this is eternal life that you might know the only true god in jesus christ whom thou has sent to come down and die in our place and rise again so god could be faithful to have judged our sins and yet pardoned our iniquities man what a great plan he's got i have got one amen i have glorified thee on the earth yes he did i have finished the work which thou gavest me to do what work second corinthians chapter five verse 14. ii corinthians chapter 5 verse 14. how many there are already wasn't a race having fun uh for those who commute in out of the city all the time god bless you i spent the last two days running back and forth taking care of some medical things in my pop and i don't know how you people do it because i've seen more bumper stickers taillights and like than you can imagine second corinthians 5 14 for the love of christ constrainteth us because we thus judge that if one died for all and he did then we're all dead and that he died for all that they and that he died for all that they which lived should not henceforth live unto themselves but unto him which died for them and rose again that's the work he was given to die and rise again to pay for us wherefore henceforth know we know man after the flesh yea though we have known christ after the flesh many of them had been eyewitnesses yet now henceforth knowing him no more therefore if any man be in christ by putting your faith in jesus from your heart confessing with your mouth he is a new creature old things are passed away behold all things are become new and all things are of god who hath hears the work he was given to do all things are of god who hath reconciled us to himself how by jesus christ and hath given to us who believe the ministry of reconciliation to it or that is that god was in christ reconciling the world unto himself that's the work he was given to do not imputing their trespasses unto them and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation so now then we are ambassadors for christ as though god did beseech you by us and we pray you in christ stead be reconciled to god here is the work he was given to do for god hath made him jesus to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of god in him he is our sin bearer he is our sacrifice our redeemer as we're in the week of yom kippur david tillman and this isn't just a new testament thing keep your finger here look at isaiah 53 for a minute isaiah 53 says the same thing it said of this coming servant he's despised and rejected of men that'll be our next few weeks in john a man full of sorrows and acquainted with grief isaiah 53 3 and we hit his where our faces from him he was despised and we esteemed him not here we go same work he was given to do surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him stricken smitten of god and afflicted he was bearing our sins they thought he was getting punished for blasphemy but he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed notice what he says in verse 10 it pleased the lord to bruise him rather than you rather than me he hath put him to grief when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin he shall see his seed or his followers he shall prolong his days that takes a resurrection and the pleasure of the lord shall prosper in his hand that was the work he was given to do to come and to lay down his life as a sacrifice and this is what he told them in the upper room greater man greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends and then he called them friends so now he's having his prayer this is life eternal that they may know thee john 17 3 the only true god and jesus christ whom thou hast sent to be our sin bearer i have glorified thee on the earth the miracles the teachings i have finished the work which thou gavest me to do dying and rising again for us but pastor that's still a few chapters away you'll see finish the work thou gave us me to do and now o father glorify thou me with thine own self which the glory which i had with thee before the world was what did it say to us in the beginning of john in the beginning was the word the word was with god and the word was god and by him all things were made that were made he's always existed he said it again to him in john chapter 8 i tell you the truth you're not even 50 years old you've seen abraham i tell you the truth before abraham was ever existed i am always existed they picked up rocks to stone him glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which i had with thee before the world was i have manifested verse six thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world thine they were and thou gave us the me and they have kept thereo to guard to watch over they have kept thy word now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee they know the father sent him and they know the father has empowered him for i have given unto them the words which thou gavest me turn to john 12. john 12 again this is all review the prayer is basically you know he's revealing what he taught them in prayer and asking god to make it stick john 12 49 i have not spoken of myself but the father which sent me he gave me a commandment what i should say and what i should speak and i know his commandment is life everlasting wherefore i speak therefore even as the father said unto me so i speak he said only those things that the father told him they have known all things whatsoever thou has given me are of thee so back to verse 8 i've given them the words which thou gavest me said it repeatedly and they have received them have you they have received them and have known surely that i came out from thee and they have believed that thou didst send me in fact they said it just in our last chapter in verse 30. now we are sure that thou knowest all things verse 30 and need us not that any man should ask thee by this we believe that thou camest forth from god they finally it clicked and he acknowledges that they have known that i came out from thee they have believed that thou did send me verse 9 i pray for them you needed to you'll see as you read through i pray not for the world but for them for his disciples which thou has given me for they are thine all mine are thine and thine are mine that's because he and the father are one explain that more fully sure thing we're on the sea of glass because right now i take a lot of this and by faith three distinct persons the father the son the holy spirit yet one understand a love of a father for a son more and more as time goes by couldn't imagine trading one of them for anybody let alone the world when they were at enmity with god i understand the desires of son to be pleasing and honorable to a father that relationship dynamic i can get thanks to the human condition which is why i think he portrayed it in that fashion the working of the holy spirit that sense of presence get that especially when he's moving in your life you really sense his presence but i think these things will be even clearer he put it on terms we could understand in this human experience of the love of a father first you see when when couples you know they we do weddings and again they're there and they're at the altar and they're making all these vows they have no idea what they're saying to each other we go through them you smile and they write their own vows you're like you know and some were like wow somebody like okay well you know it's their day and then they have a kid and personally i must say this i don't want to ruin this or anybody's engaged they get married and they get a dog and i start the clock usually when they get a dog one year they're pregnant it's like they're trying out the concept of being responsible you know getting up let me go out for a walk you know whatever case somebody had to feed it and usually within a year i see them you know suddenly what do you know they're pregnant and and when they get pregnant and they you know thank god we get to hear about a lot of times i explained to him you're going to learn a lot about the love of god the father because you would do anything for those kids and you begin to understand how much he loves us yeah you understand the idea of being a child and hopefully you've had a decent childhood where you you know you had parents that were reasonably honorable and you wanted to be able to it's a great it's a blessing to obey them to bless them whatever it's great but if you if you had a horrible existence and you have a real hard time trusting god is a good father in heaven but hopefully when you become a parent you begin to really dial in like man i would do i'd work three jobs so that kid could eat and everything begins to change so the dynamic that he chose to manifest himself especially the more i grow old the more i appreciate the beauty and the simplicity of it all mine are thine and thine are mine verse 10 and i am glorified in them jesus should be glorified in our lives too by the way verse 11 he goes on and now i am no more in the world but wait a minute he hasn't even been betrayed yet brought before anas who's the real high priest with the power then caiaphas who was installed by the romans because they're basically running the show then that mock sort of mourning congregation of the sanhedrin to try and make it look legitimate then taking the pilot then spooned off the herod because he didn't want to deal with it who sends him back because he won't say even a word to herod then pilate's got him back in his lap trying to figure out what would do he scourges them he basically tries to mock him brings them out and then they finally pull out the real charge which you'll learn in chapter 19. can't tell you now hasn't even happened yet but in the mind of christ it's a it's a fate of complete it's going to happen because he will be obedient to the father and everything and he was sent to give his life a ransom for you and for me and he's going to finish that work so even though there are a few things yet to happen i am no more in the world can't touch me but these the disciples are in the world and i come to the holy father what did he say i'm leaving you cannot follow this is all up a room peter of course why can't i not follow you you'll follow me later my father's house are many mansions i come to the holy father keep again te reo guard protect keep through thine own name those whom thou has given me that they may be one as we are that's why he wants us to have love for one another that people can tell we've been with jesus that's why satan works so hard to split churches divide friendships among believers destroy marriages among believers because what he wants to do is destroy the unity that christ has prayed for for his church and this last year has been a doozy for a lot of them whether it's masking or no masking this or that all kinds of other issues you know there has just been a wrecking ball to a number of congregations and it has been unfortunate i come to thee holy father keep through thine own name those whom thou has given me that they may be one as we are you know i have a private theory those people drive you crazy in church that you have a real hard time with i think god's going to park you next to him in worship for eternity that's a private theory honestly i just i think like he's going to fix that uh-huh but i could be wrong and i'm wrong about a lot of things so there you go read your bible don't trust me while i was with him in the world again he's still there but it's going to end soon i kept i guarded to rail i kept them in thy name those that thou gavest me i have different word philoso that is to keep watch to in a sense escape or to keep from violence to keep from trouble those that thou gavest me i have kept and none of them is lost but the son of perdition the description might be fulfilled son ho the apple leah happily is a word if you've been with us you've heard me mention is a word that essentially explains the state of death or the state after death wherein one realizes they have now become eternally separated from god to their own destruction apple leah not a good word to have attached to your resume ho the son of the destruction apple leah turn to 2 thessalonians 2 2 thessalonians 2. he's going to talk about the rapture and we already did i'm just going to talk about something else 2nd thessalonians 2 but if you knew that was involved good for you let no man verse 3 deceive you by any means in other words don't watch the news that that day should not come except there come a falling away first most feel that's a falling away within the church let me know if you see anything that hints to that rest of verse 3 and that men of sin be revealed same phrase the son thee of destruction because this term is used of judas and it is used here in 2 thessalonians 2 of the antichrist there is a theory out there among commentators some feel the antichrist will be a resurrected judas can't tell you that for sure or not but if you're reading commentaries you run across it it's because judas is given the exact same description the other place we find it is here dealing with the antichrist and notice the antichrist is revealed in verse 8 when that wicked one is revealed because that which is restraining is taken out of the way so something right now is keeping all this from happening but when that something is removed suddenly this stuff is going to break out on the world stage and you know you're getting close when you start seeing an apostasy within the body of christ but we're in john so let's go back there none of them should be lost except for the son of perdition the is referring to whom judas that the scripture might be fulfilled now that scripture is psalm 41 9 he that has dipped his hand or eaten bread with me has lifted up his heel against me and that psalm came from a broken heart of king david where king david's son absalom decided to rise up after a period of time proclaim himself to be king and he took a hitherford tofo with him as a counselor and a hitherfall was david's most trusted advisor and strategist and so it was said that when a man inquired of a hitherfell basically it was like inquiring of the oracles of god and he gave instructions for what absalom should do to ingratiate himself to the people burn the bridge with david so he can't go back and that all happened and then david's other friend hushai was sent in by david to sort of countermand that council and they eventually listen to who shy he should go read it's an amazing set of details and the hitherfail when he realized his counsel wasn't followed went home put his house in order and hung himself just like judas and david wrote that psalm about that betrayal he who dipped his hand who had the bread with me has lifted up his heel against me and again to betray someone who has been at your table to be brought to the table is to be included to be welcomed to be a guest and to betray that as the ultimate insult in eastern hospitality judas betrayed jesus from his table a hatha fell to betray david from his table and so this is that parallel fulfilling that psalm that was not only historic but prophetic of one of the disciples of the messiah that the scripture might be fulfilled and go read that account more for yourself it's quite good to know and now i come to thee verse 13 and these things i speak in the world that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves knowing he's come from the father knowing he's finished the work knowing he is heading back to the father he's telling these things so they will not be overwhelmed or afraid that they might have joy fulfilled in themselves god has a reason for these things i have given them thy word logos thy word and the world hath hated them anybody noticing the world increasingly seems to hate things dealing with christ you ever watch the comment sections and articles and yes i know there are trolls and other things and misinformation and all that but it's amazing when someone comes out with a gospel view or gospel or biblical mindset to see how they get trashed anybody catching that i've given them thy word and the world has hated them because they are not of the world what did jesus say he's going to the father's house he's chosen this out of the world how many realize you don't belong here how many really you know you see the news and you see trends and you're like wow i'm really getting old which i'm being told i am or i don't belong here anymore not that we really belong i mean we had our own stuff that was messed up in the 60s whatever 70s each decade's had its own problems you know but it seems increasingly like that which is overtly evil is now out in front and center where before people had to hide that they were satanists now they're you know committee meetings in townships and demanding other things and it just it just seems like the mask is off they're not of this world i have given them thy word the world has hated them because they are not of the world so we are called to be in the world we are called not to be of the world we are citizens of heaven that's where our hope should lie we're passing through here they are not of the world even as i am not of the world verse 15 i pray not that thou should take them out of the world rats sorry personal opinion but thou should keep them from the evil he wants us in the world to be salt and light you see this was the problem of monasteries i mean there's a place for getting away and you know and keeping the word of god and translating it accurately and for study and bible colleges and all that but what really got to martin luther as i've read from historians is that he was really battling with his flesh in the world and everything else and so he went to a monastery when he got to the monastery and closed off the world guess what he was still dealing the same wicked thoughts in his head and his heart and he began to cry out and that's when it finally came to him the just shall live by faith you can close out the entire world you can shut everything off turn off all media everything sit in a room by yourself and yet here comes a thought we're called to be in the world but not of it i pray not that thou should keep them out of the world as long as we are here god has something for us to do for him know that he will not leave you here longer than what he's intended for the things he wants to do in you and through you and personally when i'm finished what god wants to do with my life and take me home before i mess something up take me home let me go i don't want to pull the hezekiah i want 15 more years great gave us manasseh go read nice one they're not of the world even as i am not of the world so i pray not that thou should take them out of the world but thou should keep them from the evil they are not of the world be careful or to live in it not be of it even as i am not of the world sanctify set apart for holy use sanctify them through thy truth well that's a problem that everybody that's my truth and that's your truth now wait a second there is the truth and the truth is the word of god and it's epitomized in the word of god that became flesh the way the truth and the life jesus christ himself there is an absolute truth and i'm absolutely sure you know it's funny when you get atheists to say there you know there is no god you say were you absolutely sure sanctify them through thy truth what's truth verse 17 thy word logos is truth latios thy word is truth ask thou hast sent me into the world saying it again clearly even so have i also sent them into the world and who by proxy does that include you i've sent them into the world why that we should make christ known and for their sakes i sanctify myself he is holy without sin without blemish so he can pay for me and for you that they also might be sanctified god wants to change your life that's what we read if any man be in christ he's a new creation a new creature the old things have passed away your life should change little by little god should change you that they might also be sanctified through the truth turn to ephesians 4 very important section of scripture ephesians 4 being sanctified through the truth galatians ephesians 4. he said if so be that you have heard christ and have been taught by him as the truth is in jesus because he's the way the truth and the life what is that truth verse 22 that you put off concerning the former conversation or manner of living the old man the person you were before you met jesus which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts deceitful because they promised fulfillment yet they leave you just as empty as when you started and verse 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind what renewing is that to be renewed in the truth that is in jesus the word of god i can't tell you how many times i sit with someone in a meeting and they're talking about where they run afoul or they're caught up in this or something else has happened or the marriage isn't doing well and one of the questions i ask is how is your quiet time and that's christian ease for how much are you spending time reading god's word and guess what i hear almost 100 of the time i haven't read in a long time which means the only thing you've got left to renew your mind is 3 6 10 cnn npr the vue fox uh whatever's out there whatever i don't know whoever else is out there doing newsmax i don't know he didn't mention whatever if you're looking to the world to renew your mind you're in for a real rude awakening and big disappointment if you will take the time to make sure you read in god's word and listen three chapters a day you'll get through the whole bible in pretty much one year if you if you've never done it start with the gospels go from matthew go to all the way to revelation when you get there then hit genesis and go through it the old testament you won't be harmed and then when you go through the old testament go through the new again and you realize how much more the new you understand because of the old then when you get through the new guess what go back to the old and you mean i've already read the bible once i have a personal challenge for you so many bibles you can wear out and no don't put them behind your car and drag them on a string it's how many bibles you can wear out right in them take time linger in them usually the first thing it goes is the spine on the back then the pages start going if you're really you know one of those messy bible keepers you just kind of chuck it anywhere pretty soon it gets clumps and lumps and all that but see how many you can wear out and watch your life change you got to put off the old man you got to make some willing decisions this stuff never did anything for me all i'll do is bring me pain and sorrow and sin i've got to renew my mind and learn what god has to say about it and then he said after renewing your mind then put on the new man see if you don't renew your mind you don't know what the new man ought to be doing or not doing put on the new man which after god has created in righteousness and true holiness practical examples wherefore put away lying that's the old man speak every man the truth with his neighbor four members of one another be angry it's the old man sin not that would be a new man let not the sun go down upon your wrath never give place to the devil let him that stole old man still no more but go beyond that rather let him labor working with his hands the thing which is good that he may give to them that has needs so rather than steal your working you get extra and you help those in need that's a changed life and it came from being a whosoever who put your faith in jesus christ confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart you'll be saved and you will change sanctify them verse 17 through thy truth thy word is truth as thou hast sent me into the world even so have i sent them into the world for their sakes i sanctify myself that they also might be sanctified through the truth remember what he told us in john 8 thy word is truth truth will set you free neither pray i for these alone church here's our turn but i pray for them which shall believe on me through their word that would be all of us tonight who believe in christ that they all may be one one day we will in heaven as thou father art in me and i in thee that they may also be one in us that the world may believe that thou hast sent me it's by our love for one another from all kinds of races nations kindreds tribes deep peoples tongues to see people from all kinds of different backgrounds all excited about jesus that gets people's attention and that's what it's going to be in heaven so why not practice here verse 22 and the glory which thou gavest me i have given them to know god's voice to know his heart to know his ways to know his word that they may be one even as we are one you know people who read their bibles generally have pretty much a lot of things in common with the other people read their bibles yeah a few minor things you're not sure about pre post mid tomato tomato dance not dance but you know what they're all waiting for jesus they're all excited and they all know certain things are don't do that even as we are one verse 23 i in them we receive that by the holy spirit when we trust them and thou and me that they may be made perfect or complete tell you perfect or complete in one and that the world may know that thou hast sent me he's been saying that repeatedly through the gospel of john he says it again and that thou hast loved them as thou hast loved me boy that's austin beloved by the father the same way he loves his son that's good news isn't it father you know something and there's a few places where you know the leper comes and says lord if you're willing you can make me clean and jesus said i will be thou clean but when you go through his prayer life this is really the only place you hear him say i will let you get our attention he's asking the father for something he's actually i will i desire fellow i desire i would love i will who was he after i will that they also whom thou has given me his disciples and followers listen what he's asking for i will that they be with me where i am father's house that they may behold my glory which thou has given me for thou lovest me before the foundation of the world he prays for his church that we will see him in his glory i'm good with that and i'm ready for it peter james and john got a little taste when he was transfigured suddenly the glory of god was shown through from him it's like the veil of his flesh was pulled back in his deed he revealed but his prayer tonight for you is that you having trusted him by faith from your heart may one day see him in glory at the right hand of the father as he told us we would find him isaiah chapter 6 his mind was blown i saw the lord high and lifted up his train filled the room he said woe me a man of unclean lips lord we're good if your request gets fulfilled soon i will the thou whom thou has given me they whom thou has given me be with me where i am that's our hope of heaven that they may behold my glory what did philippians say he thought it not robbery be equal with god but laid aside that glory made himself of no reputation took upon him the form of a servant being found made like unto sinful men he lay down his life as a sacrifice philippians he set aside his glory to take on human flesh to die from me and for you i will that they may also behold me in the glory which thou has given me that they may be where i am they may behold my glory which thou has given me for thou lovest me before the foundation of the world o righteous father listen to that he knows him intimately oh righteous father the world hath not known thee you know it's our job to try and tell them that's why he let us stay here but i have known thee these have known that thou hast sent me and i have declared unto them thy name and will declare it he's not finished yet a few more things to do that the love agape the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them jesus said i'm leaving i'm going to give you another comforter even who the holy spirit and what is the fruit of the holy spirit agape love thou is love me and may be in them and i in them and when jesus had spoken these words finished his prayer he went forth with his disciples over the brook kidron kidron means dark or black brook where a garden was into which he entered and his disciples during that time it's the passover and what they were doing is sacrificing the passover lambs and on the temple mount compound if you read through your old testament you'll find there are times there are so many people coming for passover and such little time to do it that they would not only have the altar they have it other places they would be offering other sacrificial areas and the levites sometimes and others will be pressed in the service they'd even take over the court of the gentiles some several some people are go up to you know i think it's 200 000 lambs i think is the number i've heard different time massive amount of lambs sacrificed depending on the time period and all that but as that's happening the blood is flowing it's being poured out and underneath that platform of the temple are conduits that run down into the kidron and the blood that's being poured out and the water that's being splashed over and they keep doing the sacrificial system run down these conduits if you go with us to israel we're in the southern steps as we head out to go sit on those steps there's a little kind of trough and that trough is one of those conduits and if you could do without creating an international incident climb up that conduit it's kind of small but if you could run a camera up or climb up you would find the location of the altar because they were right around the altar where the blood would be poured out so as he's crossing the kidron it is called the dark brook but in this case it is running red with all the blood of all the passover lambs as he goes into the garden to lay down his will but we're out time we'll pick it up here next week father thank you for allowing us to know your son thank you for calling us from darkness to light thank you lord for bringing conviction in such a way that we realize something's wrong we realize we're empty worse we realize the things we've done have offended a holy god and that we're going to see him face to face one day thank you lord for drawing us when you would have been just leaving us in darkness rebellion and sin and lord one of the hardest things to consider is why us but the next question would be why anybody our god is in the heavens he does whatever he pleases lord please help us not to squander the amazing gift of being called from darkness to light to being drawn to you and given a heart to open or to understand and to receive that jesus is indeed the savior of the world he is the son of god who bore our sins and rose again thank you lord for allowing us to be able to embrace these truths understand them and receive them it is by grace through faith we've been saved that not of ourselves it's the gift of god not of works list any man should boast why you would pick us lord is staggering but you have may we not waste it we may not waste it living in backslidden lives may we not waste it living in rebellion to the truth that we know may we not waste it being afraid to tell people who are perishing and are empty that there's a god who loves them and wants to give them peace maybe not waste this amazing treasure you have put in these earthen vessels but maybe we pour it out over and over again and find ourselves repeatedly filled as we tell people the reason for the hope we have within us oh lord may your church be on fire we pray in jesus name amen
