Jo Koy talks Filipino pride, his new comedy special

you know how hard it was for me to find another filipino comic in 1989 without the internet you know how hard it was for me to just find another filipino in 1989 it was hard that clip is from in his elements the latest netflix special from comedian joe coy it was filmed entirely in the philippines yes and in celebration of filipino-american heritage month he's about to tell us all about it right now here and so uh joe i'm going to ask you first i mean going back to the philippines shooting it all in the philippines it was going home for you but you had a special reason why you wanted to do it tell us well you know one thing i wanted to do was just give back to a culture that gave me so much you know i get to talk about being filipino but i never get to show the world uh what the philippines looks like and what the people look like and how we talk and how we eat and you know growing up as a kid i didn't have any inspiration on tv like that and i wanted that to be the inspiration you've really made it now because you're getting your own date do i have it right we have caught you on a at a time that this is your day you're being honored today with your own day there yeah thank you so much man it is an honor and you know it's just fun to celebrate moments like this with my son you know my son's 17 and you know to show him you know what his dad did i you know it took me 30 years to get here and you know this is kind of like my indirect way of like motivating my son and showing him that hey anything's possible as long as you dream you know well congratulations you deserve it and i know you're a big fan by the way of a filipino restaurant here in new york city jeepney they sent over a few dishes for us to try and we're hoping you can walk us through what they are the first one is pansit pond sorry i already said it wrong there you go oh amy yes it's not pants yet okay well i'm from the midwest i'm from michigan we say things with flat a's hey jose joseph i got some of your favorite filipino dishes we're gonna start with panties you're gonna love this pan fit it's so good you take a pan and then you sit it's delicious you're gonna love these noodles i i swear out of all the noodle dishes in asia i'm i'm a little biased filipinos have have knocked it out of the park pontoon is so delicious it's my favorite and uh nicole uh you know she owns uh jeepney she she destroys uh those dishes man she she really puts her heart and soul into those dishes you can taste it tastes homemade well man it is delicious don't know when you'll be able to get back over here and and get back to your favorite restaurant but man it really has been an absolute joy something we need on this friday all right is to have a little fun congratulations you're there in san diego getting the key to the city congrats on your day and also congrats on in his elements now streaming on netflix joe coy you take care my brother i love you guys thank you oh thank you joe that was great well i learned something today um what else do would you like to do you know what i i do want to say anyone who's ever taken care of patients in a hospital and worked with a nurse from the philippines will say they have some of the best nurses in the world so not only is their pants it good so are their well hey there gma fans robin roberts here thanks for checking out our youtube channel lots of great stuff here so go on click the subscribe button right over right over here to get more of awesome videos and content from gma every day anytime we thank you for watching and we'll see you in the morning on gma
