when I went out there in 2008 um no I was still like in a pretty dark place and in life you know I wasn't popping it all out here you know like and that's you know that I can't sugarcoat that that's just the truth right on the battle both on a battling tip and on a life just rap career tip you know they even my battle in Korea had kind of spiraled into the ground so in 2008 when I went out there I thought it would be for like maybe three four months and it was specifically to release a Chinese album like a whole album in Chinese so I'm like cool three months get some dough get some gigs and then come back to America and then take it pick up from there but those three months turn into six turn into a year and then like we were just saying right now yo TV stuff film stuff endorsement deals I'm on the Billboard with the you know with the soft drink like you know me and and so financially it was extremely productive fruitful but more important than that me as a man I started seeing like whoa yep specifically because of my faith and you know if you're like well what happened out there did you have some sort of life-changing you almost got hit by a car or something well I mean not even it was just going my questions just a put in perspective with what the bad TV viewers yeah like how would you compare yourself to an American equivalent I was like Justin Bieber there you were like you were the Justin Bieber uh-huh ah what an interesting thing is because your China is the whole thing right I was in Hong Kong the city I was in Hong Kong listen okay well the New York of um it is it is a big city it but but but the thing is you know we sometimes maybe we don't realize it but geographically China is huge so you can't even compare America to China in a sense and even in terms of population but um so maybe put it like this I can't be when I say I was the Justin Bieber I met in Hong Kong specifically now if you magnify that to China as a whole it may shrink I may not be Justin Bieber maybe uh you know I may be a robin thicke okay so you ever think of China well not specifically with style but in terms of like of pop eNOS yeah yeah okay Sutton me like I was getting gigs and and you know there people are aware of me in China but I'll just specifically zero it into Hong Kong though as the city right so you said if you were like walking to a mall in Hong Kong would you shut them all down um yeah at the peak yeah at the peak year shut it down like meaning like people would just you know pictures yeah and stuff like that yeah so but yo but for real for real you know like not only just for the viewers but even for myself I just need to be mindful that everything I'm describing I know for a fact was in my own doing because it's like yeah if you were to ask like yo Jen how'd you get it like that I'd be like I don't know I mean like I'm not at that time I'm learning now but am I the greatest actor no I'm just picking it up in the last year or two and my rap skills like are you doing like incredible Chinese rap music something no not necessarily you know my Chinese isn't even like up to par with what they speak out there so if you're like well what was it that got you that you know I'm saying how will you shutting them all down yo just man favor and grace you know from God like I don't know I don't know why but the uniqueness of my identity helped you know I'm saying but still that doesn't guarantee it cuz there's still the factor of like who's this nan Hong Kong Chinese dude coming here trying to get it poppin you're not even one of us there's that dynamic to museums and um nah not at all because if anything my lesson that I've learned and I'm learning every day still now I don't think I deserve any of this I don't deserve what I got when I went to Hong Kong I don't even deserves it in front of y'all then not to be extra melodramatic about it I think I'm just learning more and more that once upon a time where I thought I was really unique and real special in terms of like my skill and my talent and my identity like you know I got mad things to bring to the table I'm just learning that that may not be the case you know saying a lot of even back then why I was able to excel and and even in my early career right how the the rapid rise I feel like it was just part of God's plan and even the decline and to me that is the lesson and learning that the decline was so much more part of the plan because what you hearing me share right now about that that that great you know as someone up in one with gratitude that gratitude comes from that decline but but at the same time it's not like I declined and then I went to Hong Kong got it pop in and now I forget about it you zooms in because that could be the case but whereas instead of not forgetting about it it just strengthens that gratitude so recently you know like I only moved back to the states about a year ago and that was around the time my son was born and here's an interesting thing about the question you asked I was real torn about it initially because yo when I left Hong Kong yo I left at kind of like a peak you know I mean like I had built these these these relationships with these brands you know I mean like selling the soft drink on the Billboard and so for me to say yo I'm gonna be going back to America for a indefinite amount of time like everybody knew why I left so they knew it was mainly family driven and people like well you just bring your wife and child to Hongkong and that just wasn't something that you know we wanted to do as a family so for me knowing you know that he would be arriving I was like I gotta go back like I can't miss the birth of my son first of all and I'm not gonna not be around the first year of his you know his life and so I've been back for a year and what I was talking about when I had to make that decision was yo the human part of me was like yo I'm leaving man business behind right now you know and and not only just leaving a business behind but I just poured three four years into building this and there's no telling after I leave if when I come back what's what its gonna be you know because it is a very out of sight out of mind a game in general even in the States but over there specifically but I had to make that decision this is part of life part of being a man made it and um you know it's been cool you know like you know has things slowed down there yeah because physically I'm not able to be there you know I'm saying going back actually and like from today I'm going back in about two weeks to do to do like a TV drama so those usually whenever they do them it takes like it's like a three four months filming so I'll probably right out till the end of the year over there filming this drama playing like some financial like like part of the like the feds but we uh we oversee like big company companies and their financial activities to make sure there's no illegal activity going on so that's what I'm gonna be playing yeah at CMS you go charging for a purse Dave Chappelle is a different type of animal man his comedic talent and timing is like no other and I gotta say I don't I don't I can't disagree in any way shape or form
