- [Man] Jimmy and Penny. - Yes. - [Man] We're here in New Orleans. Where did you guys sleep last night? - At a squat. - Yeah. There's a squat that-- it's an old building on Annette street. When I was here back towards Mardi Gras, I started fixing it up with a few friends and came back and was like, I wonder how the squat's doing and they cleaned it up really nicely. There's couches and stuff in there now. When we first found it it
was just full of garbage and old clothes and there
was no furniture or anything. - [Man] Now, how long have you been there? - We've stayed there for
the last couple of nights. - [Man] So, now you're traveling? - Yeah. - [Man] How long have you
been here in New Orleans? - Since we rolled in on
Thursday on a freight train. - [Man] So, you came on a train? You were training it. - Yeah. - [Man] Very cool. So, how long have you been doing this? - I just started riding trains
maybe a couple of months ago, but in general I've been
traveling for 10, 11 months and have not stopped. Started out with a car, that fell through, started hitchhiking, started learning more about trains. It's been like a huge learning experience the whole time. - [Man] And you, Jimmy? - I've been traveling for the
better part of two years now. I took six or seven months and kicked it in LA for a while, but I haven't been back here. This is the first place I
arrived when I was traveling. I haven't been back here
in almost two years. It's pretty cool to be back. - [Man] So, you like it here? - I like New Orleans, yeah. - [Man] Now, you both were telling me your favorite is Alabama. - Yeah
- Yeah. We just had such a good time, but apparently we missed all
the waterfalls that are there, but we went to Birmingham. - We went to Talladega nights. It was amazing. Like Talladego super speedway. We were there for the races and it was like one of the
craziest things I've ever seen. - [Man] So, tell me, traveling lifestyle. It's kinda crazy. - Definitely. - Yeah, you learn to get
by on very little food. You also learn to stop caring so much about showering every day. - Yeah, I mean, and just in general, stop being so materialistic and realize what's more important. Yes, you're giving me kisses, Logan. (laughing) - [Man] What's your pet's name? - Logan. - Logan! Good name. - I named him after Logan's
Roadhouse in Birmingham. - In Birmingham. - It's like a steakhouse. - [Man] The steakhouse. Actually, I like that place. - I do too. - Yeah, they're amazing. - [Man] I really do for a mid-range-- - Right? Their food is really, really good. They have this deal where it's like two meals with two sides each for like $14 before dinner time. - So, this sign, actually, allowed us to eat in Logan's Roadhouse. - Two nights in a row. - Two nights in a row! - [Man] Really? - One night in a row,
but then I was walking-- - [Man] And it just got you socks. - Yeah, it did. Fresh socks. - [Man] Freshies. - So, that's clean socks. - [Man] But this is homeless. You're young and you're out here. It's homelessness. - I mean, I've been to college. I've had jobs. I've worked every day. I had two businesses before I was 12. I'm smart. If this is the easiest way for me to be able to see the world and if I don't have to wait until I'm 65, 75 years old or older and then I never wanna travel after that and I never see all the things that I see. If I have to sleep in squats or, oh, God forbid, sleep underneath the stars in a sleeping bag 'cuz that's terrible. You know? If I have to do that
and make some sacrifices and not be super clean all the time, then I'm willing to-- - [Man] Let me ask, where do you see yourself in five years? - Europe.
- Somewhere in Europe. (man laughing) - [Man] That was almost in unison. Traveling? - Yes. - That's the plan. - Maybe in a loft making music. Maybe working in a hotel
and the diner downstairs. I don't know. - [Man] If you had three wishes, what would they be? - The only wish that I have, really, is I would like to get in a loft in Europe and get a typewriter and get my computer and a microphone and I just
wanna follow through with that and just really stay inside
for like a month straight and just kinda go out sometimes and be kind of like a crab. You know? I just wanna write my book. - [Man] I look forward to reading it. I look froward to the movie. - Yeah. - [Man] And Penny, you? - I just wish my voice
didn't blow out so easily 'cuz I sing every single day. So, it's really rough on the vocalcords. Pretty much, other than that, I think I can manage. - [Man] Why don't you
close us out with a song? - All right. - [Man] Thank you very
much for talking to me. - Thank you. (upbeat ukulele melody) ♫ Well, knowing you ♫ It makes me want to make myself stronger ♫ It makes me want to make myself smarter ♫ It makes me want to make me be again ♫ And knowing you, ♫ It makes me want to (mellow electronic melody)
