guys Miami Super Bowl history has been well chronicled but the city has also been the site of some important Civil Rights history including a pivotal meeting between one of the NFL's most legendary players and three other iconic african-american figures here now a look at one memorable night Miami one that continues to resonate over five decades later Muhammad Ali who was brave Sam Cooke was arguably the greatest singer this nation has seen Malcolm X was one of the greatest freedom fighters in the 20th century Jim Brown is fearless [Music] [Music] I'm testing my memories to think that all these years people are interested in what happened way back then [Music] 25th 1964 was a remarkable day Cassius Marcellus clay jr. was stepping into the ring with Sonny Liston at 22 years old he became the heavyweight champion of the world and that night he repaired to his hotel to Hampton house with three other figures Jim Brown Sam Cooke and Malcolm X racially in 1964 was embarrassing quality didn't count fairness didn't count all around me black people were being discriminated against that was the nature of the country at that particular time it was that moment in my mind that they were able to have the opportunity to express their feelings without having to censor themselves in any way and be in a space that was safe 6400 sound of his voice when you talk about of Malcolm X that's historical figure and you know Sam Cooke was unique talent but he had a consciousness that he wanted to make this a better world so he joined the forces am an activist and put his butt on the line [Music] this brings back memories wrong sort of gets me into my worry suit the struggle was so intense if you didn't watch out you'd be kind of dictating yourself you had to be very careful because they were white people I was very racist but they're white people unless they're lies to bring about freedom equality justice to us today we look back and appreciate those who made this room significant I'm so happy that I was one of them think about it four black men Tula who would be dead within a year another one who would retire at the height of his career another who had soon announced his conversion to a Muslim ideology that date represents an extraordinary conversion of four black figures at the height of their professions but who represented the interests of black America I'm only here to make myself a better person and those only and down the line is fun when I said be a better person I'm not just talking about me how look at that shit'll to fit why not [Music]
