I was in Istanbul last year and happened upon the Istanbul Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam. It broke my heart.

You could see where at one point, there was nobody who could beat the Islamic world for tech advances, especially in astronomy. Then, as the centuries pass there are fewer and fewer contributions. You could almost see exactly when the religion began to strangle the culture's technological superiority.

Jim is a brilliant communicator. He has done many science shows the for BBC, all very good.

I like this guy. Here is a BBC doc in the same territory, hosted by him. This was good exposure to a group of early scientists who aren't very well known.
