thanks again viewers this book is really selling well I really appreciate it it's labeled the best seller on Amazon fishing The Edge techniques and tales from Surf Boat and kayak you can learn more at johnscreenerfishing.com and on Amazon okay heading out to the rips for stripers it's been good you know my intention is to fish flutter spoons and you know what it pays to carry alternate gear because things do not always work out the way you plan okay I'll have links to all of the gear in the video description if you like this video please hit the like button if you're not already a subscriber Please Subscribe and hit that notification Bell and this is Eastern Long Island okay starting out with flutter spoons yeah I love that nine inch six ounce tsunami it really gets down stays down but watch you see that hook up and now slack line um yeah the problem is as things are getting warmer more and more Bluefish are coming in and you're gonna see I mean at least I even bent the rod on that one this one here is going to be nothing more than a quick bite off and uh yeah I mean so I'm not gonna feed these spoons to Bluefish so I'm going to go ahead and switch over three-way Bucktail rig and let's uh see a little more about that foreign okay so I know not everybody's familiar with the three-way Bucktail rig so let me go over it real quickly so it starts with a strong three-way swivel this is about five feet of 80 pound test monofilament to a Bucktail uh usually an ounce to an ounce and a half because it's really the weight that's going to get the rig down this happens to be an ounce and a quarter off of this eye we have lighter line here this is 30 and it's got you know these knots in here some people will actually tie an overhand knot to try to weaken this a little bit if it's the same pal test as the main light I use 30 pound main line so I want this to be a little weaker in case I snag bottom I'll lose just the Sinker not the rest of the rig and you know we fish over a lot of snaggy bottom for the stripers um there's a bait strip on here it's actually uh a fat cow jig strip there's other kinds pork rind was used traditionally for many years something that will help a lot is if you can use a cannibal Sinker as opposed to a bank this will snag less because it's round and the other thing is since it's round it has less resistance in the water which means you can use less lead than if you use the Traditional Bank Sinker and one last thing is the type of Bucktail if you look at this Bucktail it's really bulky you know it's got a lot of hair it's got feathers and so forth um this is similar lots of hair these are really good choices for three-way rigs um these here are good if you're just fishing without a three-way but on a three-way these aren't as good because they won't catch the current and stand this line out as well as these bulky bucktails and just this show has nothing to do with brand these are all s Skinner bucktails um these you know this one here in particular I would drop just down on a spinning rod fact we'll see that in this video but on a three-way rig I really prefer bulky bucktails such as these all right let's get uh back to the fishing all right I've got an eight ounce cannibal Sinker on there you drop that rig to the bottom and as soon as it hits bottom you take a couple of cranks like two cranks up and you just try to follow the bottom Contour you look at the fish finder a lot to follow that bottom and when you're going up a slope like I am right now you see me taking a couple of cranks that's because the Bottom's coming up I don't want to drag bottom it's a very snaggy bottom um notorious for stealing gear I can tell you on this trip I lost one Bucktail rig and that's that's pretty good I don't usually lose any but you know you do this for a few hours you're going to mess up once or twice and but uh here we go yeah you can't even get under the blues because they are right on the bottom as well I mean I'm Gonna Get Some Bass But uh it's these guys are really down there and they are big all right yeah a neighbor asked me for a couple of Blues for a smoker so I'm going to keep a couple of these okay no action imparted on the rod you're just holding it you can see I'm just starting to come up a slope now picking up a little bit of line and just holding it if I go down a slope I'm going to drop line get off the bottom just hold it hopefully you can see that bottom rise on the left hand side of the fish finder just starting to come up foreign let's watch the next fish from the other angle foreign a little bit about how the fishing this spot works on during the middle of the tide there's a three and a half mile an hour current I mean most of the time you're fishing here you know you're really moving fast with the drift so people drift back and then they have to run back up again so boats are continuously running back up current and you know with some Fisheries if it was shallow and the fish was spooky you would never want to run over the fish I would say most boats running up current here are going to run up the middle um because you know what the water is deep there's a lot of noise anyway there's a lot of Motors running um so yeah you'll see boats are going to run right up the middle some will run around the side and right now I'm running around the side of the fleet and then when you get up to the top of the drift you have to try and make sure like you don't cut off somebody else's drift like as I get up there um you know I'm looking at that black boat I I don't want to stop um before where he is and have him maybe drift into me or some little you know issue like that that so you just got to kind of pick an open Lane and you know another thing is to pay attention to your boat which way it drifts best given the conditions of the day like this particular day I've got a wind coming from the West I find it better if I point the bow into that a little bit I don't want it actually just catching the stern and and blowing me even a little bit harder so um yeah so pay attention to that the other thing is when you shut your boat down you typically want to dump it in reverse for a second there and really you know stop the boat but yeah you know you do have to look around you can see I'm you know looking around both sides certainly because some of the boats are moving up the drift pretty fast so you have to make sure you don't get hit then there's some big heavy inboards that are going slower and you know you don't want to like stop right in their path so yeah yeah you know everybody kind of does their best and and it all works out here we are June and it's noon time and I'm still head to toe Slickers and top as I mentioned before these are the Bimini Bay breathables very comfortable even when it gets a little warmer not that it's been getting very warm lately but um yeah this is good stuff I've got links to it in the video description foreign used to be known as the Skinner fluke Rod it's the Dark Matter jig and bounce the original and a Max cell hybrid reel 25 30 pound test braid all right so I am picking some stripers near the bottom there not the size I'm I'm hoping to get yet but you know we'll see lots of Tide left here all right [Applause] we'll fix that time after I had a couple of bass in a row foreign oh I just realized there's a pen Squall on this Rod I set a Maxwell hybrid I have the max cells on the uh the two spoon rods but I only have two of them so they're occupied so uh yeah this is a pen squall wow it's a giant foreign thank you I'm loving this inexpensive d-hooker that hockey has turned me on to uh I was not very good with the hookers before getting that one foreign oh yeah the Blue's just really and they're right on the bottom there's no getting underneath them all right near the end of the tide now the drift's down are like 1.3 miles an hour this is a time where you know sometimes the bass will uh you know turn on and the three-way is really not appropriate for the slower current right now so uh I've got that the spin version of the jigging bounce Rod 20 pound test line three ounce Bucktail and that's it thank you foreign clearly another blue fish all right just dropping it to the bottom and as soon as it hits bottom it's a sharp sweeps up all right this is a blue fish I'm done it's like a blue foreign thank you we're done out of here okay really challenging to pull Bass from those blue fish this trip uh yeah this happens sometimes hey how can you complain you know there was some bass and uh lots of Rod bending beautiful day I'm not gonna complain no complaints here all right if you like this video please hit the like button if you're not already a
