fourth grade my basketball team my great american basketball league team you know you thought you could jump higher right run faster a whole bit i would keep my tongue out my dad would be like you're gonna you're gonna land on your yeah your tongue's gonna be flopping all the way we're just mimicking him a hundred be like mike before they even had the ad campaign we still wanted to do it you know i don't know who came up with it but all they had you know whoever did they must have just been paying attention what people were doing especially little corny white kids from in kansas we're doing it you know like that's when you've broken through definitely yeah we're at the st patrick cyo thinking where michael jordan it's a little little different olivia said the the apartment 200 pairs i know you give them away to charity and i know you give them to friends but how many pairs do you think you have at the house right now yeah i mean they're all in a room that's about the size of like a an elevator at a nice hotel okay okay like yeah it's three walls and then they're all done in one two three four and then red in roy g biv you know you open up the door and it looks kind of like whoa like it's it's it looks cool organized yeah and very organized yeah um but i you know we're we're living out here in la for almost a whole year year and a half when olivia was making book smart buying stuff on ebay you know people you know seating me stuff reggie jordan and tracy at nike like uh and so next thing you know i acquired all these like they just show up yeah just a bunch of new ones stimulating connie going out you know uh you know when my buddy billy's in town you know you know don't hit in a sneaker store and then i go home and i'm like wait a minute but all these and so yeah i'd end up giving hundreds like at least a hundred to my buddy andre who has the charity it's from it's from the soul and he gives them to you know people that need shoes less fortunate folks all around the new york area and so then just filled those in and now we've been out here for the pandemic you're buying out here still or what this is ebay or again reggie what's he doing reggie reggie yeah they just show he's a giver it's like dj khaled just they just show up not quite that level but close i bet yeah i bet if i had social media yeah i could i could you know mess with him but but since i don't you know dj khaled is always gonna he's always gonna beat me for him it's literally just another one that's probably what he's talking about not many people may know this you do have some sneaker retail experience i do tell the audience about that i i worked for i can't remember how long six months maybe at kids foot locker okay in oak park mall in overland park kansas and i loved it and the kids were always really really fun messing with them and screwing around with the the bracken device i believe yes device granite yes background as well trivia team uh yeah the branch device uh but the kids are always great it was if there's any trouble it's the parents yes you know it could be pills but yeah hopefully i'm not one now but yeah absolutely [Music] jason you said that you give away a lot of pairs but 2012 a pair that you wore on the streets of new york city the hemp dunks they were like these but blue swoosh yes and those released in 2004 do you keep some shoes from way back in the day yeah oh yeah i mean that's one of the things of having a bunch is that i rotate them so that none of them can get and i'm not too precious like i don't rock and stock like maybe a handful of pears but i don't mind creases like i think they need to be worn you know and then if i don't then then pay them forward you know pass them on never sell them i just you know it's either yeah charity or friends you know and so i love those shoes i love those i love them with the original laces the hemp laces like tore on me real quick you know because i you know where i'm tired yeah i'm warm and do you like big dunk reemergence lately i know i've noticed that it's a dunk swerve i was the very first pair of shoes that i got for free that tracy at nike sent me were um dunks with like carolina blue and then navy blue i still have them they're torn up from the floor okay they sit on the top shelf sedimental yeah 100 and any shoes that i've worn like in a movie or something or on the top row of that closet i mentioned earlier and those were the first pair of shoes that like walking down the street in new york when someone yes that knows their is just like yeah and and literally just i was like free yeah as a kid that you know constantly bought not a ton of sneakers growing up because you know well we just didn't have the the dough for my dad spent them all on the pumps but also i just you know i use them for basketball and basketball only and yeah that they were that feeling the best feeling yeah especially to get them as a perk for doing something that i just loved and very lucky to do you know like yes now amazing yeah to that point golden globes met gala the bread 11s what went through your head to wear that with tuxedos did you wake up that day like i'm gonna try this or it was always like you know what i'm gonna do the red carpet a little different it well the first time i did i believe was the met ball which is that big fancy thing yeah you know it's fashion it's all about fashion every year there's a brand and that year if memory serves it was punk okay okay you show up there not a lot of punk stuff right right right kanye performed that year okay it was right before jesus came out like he played black skinhead this is this is the vibe of that place is that he played black skinhead and he didn't play you know any of the songs from people's workout mixes he would play power or you know strong or anything like he was just like he was just like like this and i was like holy that beat came in i was like and everybody was kind of like didn't know what like the marilyn manson it was a marilyn manson like type beat that black skinhead yeah yes and i had never heard before and i was like oh my god this dude is going off and they and people you saw the phones they were upgraded to see him you know sing digger and they're kind of like oh what's going on here and and like just took it down and then he threw up the mic and then boom hit the thing and walked off because he wasn't getting love from him okay he only played he was supposed to play for 30 minutes he played like 10. yeah and i was like that's the most punk rock thing you thought you had the jordan you were like you know what i'm showing up in the jordans i'm going to be there because the punk but then then kanye as he was prone to do love that yeah that was he probably had the i think he had the ripped jeans that year crazy and then one year he did the con the crazy contacts were mechanical he's always a step ahead absolutely and behind which is amazing tough to do yep he harmonizes with himself yes yeah it's a good balance yeah another thing ted lasso you wear a lot of heat on ted lasso what i like though is it's not just the fastballs down the middle it's not just the concord 11's you'll wear karachi's you wear pegasus 92s are you making those choices yes okay the raraches were mine that i brought there just to wear that i was like oh you i swear these the the the carolina blue uh jordan one were mine being around young kids you know as ted you know ted was a college coach before this like and being the age that i am like growing up wearing sneakers because our parents generation it was like you know yeah those were those were only you know you can't wear those you know to school or church or anything and it's more common now that yeah that ted's just connected to that culture and so he's not doing it to be flash he just does it because like you know it's just who he is and and it was celebrated by his younger players like the way my friend brendan will walk through the you know school and get that same knot but you know that's the thing it keeps us young 100 hot in the hallways i call it what does that mean i like that like you know sneaker culture when i do the young talent it keeps the show it keeps the show hot in the hallways i love that [Music] jason the reason you're here we've been trying to get this done but about the organization such a great cause yeah steps of faith foundation so along with fly snakes i also rock a robot legend yeah that did not come with the scene so that did not come with the shoes that did not come with the shoes uh it's more expensive than the shoes okay um but definitely not this one but uh yeah those steps of faith what we do is we get uh prosthetic limbs for amputees that have no health insurance uh or uh terrible health insurance and no uh prosthetic coverage okay i do i do my favorite line that i get to do when we talk about it yes that that we help people we help people buy arms and legs so that they don't cost i i know where it's going i know where it's going an arm and a leg wait for it yeah yeah perfect yeah exactly and i love billy like thundergong yeah big concert i saw camilla cabello just added yes okay yes yeah there'll be an appearance by uh by her yes so uh we came together to create this uh basically crazy variety show it's the biggest fundraiser of the year for steps of faith we wanted to do like a concert something that we would have loved to go see it's amazing and so far so good fortunately it's like virtual now yeah because of the pandemic yeah you know and i was wondering like i saw the scribe customs only three people got them you won two and then you gave one away maybe there's a tradition though once the pandemic is over who knows when it's gonna be over maybe every year you guys get some rare sneakers what about that i can i can tell you that there will be two pair okay this year sneakers yes all right yeah and and they they go to the winner of uh of the raffle in their size two different pairs wow how about that stepping out those news yeah no thundergong has changed the game for steps of faith it's a dream
