hey guys welcome back to my youtube channel so the other day someone slid into my dm on instagram and asked me to do a reaction video on 29 things that only exist in japan and you know as a fellow japanese youtuber i thought i would make a reaction video out of this and see what they're saying about my home country there are 29 things so it's probably gonna be overwhelming but yeah let's just jump right into it let's go japan is known as the land of the rising sun but it could also be known as the land of singing toilets or the country of the blue traffic light there are so many things that make it a whole other world get ready i'm scared one square watermelons they were invented back in the seventies by a graveyard designer to fit compactly in the fridge and be cut more easily japanese special containers to get the shape since they're pretty expensive people don't buy them as food yeah we don't eat them as a decorative item yeah exactly ramen noodles bath the unison spa resort in hakone offers his guests oh yeah experience it feels like around themselves and ramen noodles well this may sound crazy to many people many the japanese believe that soaking in such a bath is good for the skin because a broth made of pork is rich in collagen no no no no no no no no homogeneity it's not real pork soup it's not real okay so it's fake it's like a theme on same place so they have like wine onsen and stuff like that same with ramen broth it's not real it looks like it but it's not i'm sorry i had to stop it was just straight up lie there's a cap on machines taking photos in a booth is nothing new but japan edited their own exciting twist to this experience their photo booths called purakura allow you to create videos right on the screen adding different backgrounds or writings i'm pretty sure or perhaps your toilet if you know you have wi-fi in there you might never have to leave people pushers subways and train stations get really overcrowded during rush hour that's why the station staff and part-time workers have to perform the routine procedure of pushing people inside oh yeah they're literally just pushing here as possible before the doors close number eight oh they didn't actually include a clip parking lot before going inside a building you can park and lock your umbrella just like you do with your bike now you can be sure no one will take it and you won't make a puddle on the floor if your umbrella is wet you're gonna have the key or you put your money your coin and get pink gold and stuff like that it's it's pretty common many government buildings offices and hotels have this sort of umbrella rack nine millions of vending machines japan has more than five million of them mostly because they save time for people who work late hours which is a pretty common thing here it's not amazing these vending machines aren't just for snacks and soda you can buy basically anything from live lobsters to underwear in these machines i've never seen live love to start one tokyo's biggest resident in 2015 godzilla was granted citizenship in tokyo's shinjuku ward the authorities presented a special certificate stating his new residency and so made him a job offer godzilla it's a joke ambassador later they even installed a godzilla head 171 feet the movie studio that made the original movie back in 1954 11. train delays make headlines punctuality is a really big thing here and train stations do everything possible to avoid a delay if a train is five minutes late the railway company might have to issue a delay certificate for railway workers it's not they might have to it's they have to they must create a certificate for the passengers because without this certificate like if you're late you're gonna get in trouble passengers who missed an important appointment and if the delay is longer than an hour then the railway company might give an official apology in newspapers 12. silent karaoke this is a special microphone with a cone that you place over your mouth it muffles most of the sounds when you sing it was designed for people who don't want to wake up their neighbors and those who feel shy about belting their faces why are they not showing the actual product number 13 polite slurping oh my god well in many countries slurping is considered rude in japan it's a way to show your appreciation of the days if you don't slurp when you eat noodles then the chef will think that you don't enjoy the food no or that it's cold no so okay so about slurping noodles it's yeah we do slurp noodles like especially noodles with soup and stuff like that but it's not to show the appreciation for the chef or anything like that okay it's just something we do you know the chef won't care if it's level or not okay it's not polite or it's not implied not to slip okay i don't know like who made up this you know slurping noodles showing appreciation to the chef it's ridiculous okay good noodles 14. face napkins when you eat a burger it's never pretty because your mouth gets covered in ketchup or mustard owners of one fast food restaurant found a solution to this by serving burgers together with special napkins they cover the faces of guests who feel a bit embarrassed about making messy i've never seen it water saving sinks they're located right over the toilet tanks this is very clever first you wash your hands over the sink then the sink water goes straight into the toilet tank and finally you flush that except the sink is on top of the pan so you save water by using it twice aren't you glad they don't do it the other way number 16. strange mayo no japanese mayo doesn't have any special recipe or ingredient but they don't eat it with salads meat or sandwiches in japan people usually use it as a topping for ice cream or on what no we don't what the heck maybe they're confused with whipped cream or something like that okay we don't put mail on ice cream or pancakes that's just disgusting mayo nothing better seventeen naps at work in japanese culture dozing off at the workplace or in a murray is considered a sign of being a hard-working person who's very committed to their job no that's why in a murray is so common and no one thinks it's a bad thing some people it is a bad thing okay if you sleep during your work you're gonna get in trouble just like in any other country we just over work so it's a common thing to sleep during work it's common it happens but it's not something you can get complimented with okay fake it 18. world's shortest escalator you can find it in the basement of moore's department store which is located in the city of kawasaki the escalator has only five steps and is only 33 inches tall it's barrier well that's one small step for a man okay 19. canned food restaurant eating canned food yeah that sounds like a delicious restaurants all over the country where they're all over the country i think they're pretty popular since clients can choose from 300 varieties of food from all across the world wow doll village the village of nagoro used to have a population of 300 people but less than 40 residents live there now a local artist tsukumi ayano made over 300 life-size dolls most of which look like former residents and they're located in various states of action i'm sorry but that's a little bit creepy to say the least what example there's a whole classroom over them in the village school that was closed a while ago that's creepy number 21 no force it's common for japanese culture to avoid the number four because it's considered to be very unlucky boy that's why some buildings die because four you can read it either young or she and she means that so you know it's considered something you know unlucky but i think it's coming from chinese culture and i don't think we avoid it as much as chinese people do have a fourth floor stores don't sell a set of cutlery for four and the number of guests to some event can't be four blue traffic light they use a blue color instead of green for traffic lights yes the reason for that hides in their lives oh my god historically there was only one word for both colors when traffic lights first appeared in the country they were as green as anywhere else but that green color was still called blue yeah to make things right the government decided to use the bluest shade of green possible okay i mean um there are still like majority of them are still like green but we still call them blue so you know whenever i went to you know other countries outside of japan i always say oh it's blue and confuse other people 23 cleaning classes japanese kids learn how to clean in many schools because it's a part of their education they mop their classrooms in hallways i was surprised that you guys can't do it you can clean the bathrooms teachers believe it's a great way to raise responsible citizens 24 foot bath train take the tudoy tourist train to get the most comfortable sightseeing experience this train has foot baths built of aromatic cypress yeah i like it when they have like actual pictures water that comes with paint so you can soak your feet and enjoy beautiful views at the same time while traveling from nagoya to yunoyama onsen 25 futuristic toilets toilets in japan are very high tech to use one a person should know what all those buttons are for there's a variety of functions including spraying warm water to clean the user up and even playing music all they're missing is a refrigerator wow who'd ever want to leave their toilet huh i mean we still have japanese sukua toilets so yeah we have to get rid of that crazy ice cream flavors the japanese love weird food combos that's why finding an ice cream flavored with horse meat cactus horse charcoal squid ink garlic or chicken wings won't be a problem here space saving parking lots since japan is a densely populated country they don't like to waste space that's why their parking lots have a smart system they're designed like multi-level garages is it not a thing outside japan hotel in a hotel in nagasaki robots are a big part of its staff it's called the henna which translates as strange androids meet the guests clean the rooms carry luggage make coffee and even smile however real people work there too to reach i've never been to this place i honestly don't know how it works 29 cafe companion sitting alone in a cafe and enjoying your coffee and food is common for most people around the world but in the land of the rising sun you'll get a huge plus this is only this cafe so you don't have to eat alone hey if you learned something new today then give the video a like and share it with a friend and here are some other videos i think you'll have okay okay i mean i shouldn't have taken this video seriously i mean like half of them are just straight and bullcrap or over exaggerated so do your own research when you come to japan okay but i guess they do exist um otherwise they wouldn't be in this video but just because they exist it doesn't mean they are common and practiced by a lot of japanese people so yeah but i guess it was fun to watch and that's the whole point right so yeah if you guys like this video please hit the like button and subscribe and i hope to see you guys in my next video peace
